Just looking at them ....they do seem terrific value secondhand....under 20 grand for a low mileage one....has anyone actually got one on here and what do you think of it ?. I did not really enjoy my 460 when had it 8 years ago....but still just Love the look of them....especially the F Sport....just wondered how it drove....maybe fixed the niggles I had with mine. and finding a mint 400 like I used to have is proving impossible....was thinking of treating myself with one..... getting old....and as Guy Martin once said to me....'' you can't put a roof rack on your coffin boy '' .

So I have sent the wheels for powder coat in a dark anthracite grey....and thought I would buy some new wheel nuts....click good old ebay I thought...but the choice is bewildering ...can anyone recommend some high quality wheel nuts without going to the dealers ?....or are genuine parts not too expensive ?....what taper do I need anyone ? I bought this 40.000 mile 2 owner 2007 350....The car is following my LS400 which I did 120.000 miles in .....Best Car I have ever owned.....then an LS460 which was a big big disappointment as mentioned on here at length back in 2010....anyway replaced that with a V8 Touareg Turbo Diesel.....{ because we got two dogs }....most amazing Torque I have ever experienced.....but the most unreliable car I have ever owned....and I've owned many British Leyland cars since the 1980's too.....Limp mode over and over...had to go after 12 months of frustration with the car and dealer.... Anyway....I'm rambling on....I bought this 350 because the engine has Roller Rockers......which I had on my Cooper S I once built.....plus Hydraulic tappets.....normal Torque Converter box ....and a cam chain....so that's the one I went for....because I like to do most of my own maintenance ....This car is very good indeed....very smooth...quiet and has fairly good steering...but brakes are again difficult to judge like the 460.....but that's about it....very pleased with it.... Sorry for long post....but gives you something to read perhaps in these strange times.

Finally bought a genuine 42.00 mile RX350....Total Lexus history and one owner car..... only one issue.....when switching off motor there is a noise from pulley side....sounds like a dry bearing.....no noise when running.... only last approx 2 seconds when switching off engine....like a bearing " running on" ?....does it every time....with the Air Con switched on or off . Any ideas lads ?......Thanks again.

I am of the opinion it is worth the money......if I did not have three large dogs that go almost everywhere with me I would make him an offer..... And as for being a Mug if you bought it for the asking price..... to me....anyone who buys a new .....say for example .....a Ford Fiesta for £15,000 that loses five grand in the first two years is a Mug......just my view lads. Still look for my old 400..... that was the best car I have ever owed and driven....204,000 miles of heaven....P939 UHR ... not taxed for many years .....probably Banger Racer now poor thing. -
Sorry to all the 460 owners on here ho have had good experiences....but this is my Story.....and nothing has changed....I am looking for another 400 mk3...... Apologies also to those who remember reading this before. I had my 400 MK3 for 6 years and it had 120,000 on when I bought it....I did another 90,000 of the happiest motoring I had ever experienced in 30 odd years of driving... The main reason I ended up going for a 460 was a bit of rust on the 400....around the arches and the windscreen....I panicked a bit over nothing....if I had the chance again....and know what I know now...I would have spent as much as it cost treat the 400 to a full Top Notch respray....and still own the best car I have ever owned. Fact is..... a friend of mine has always admired the car....and when I was set on a 460 I gave it to him as a gift. the 460...was a one owner car with 9,000 miles on....I did not even test drive it....went on the train from Cumberland to Turiff....near Aberdeen....and drove it back through the night... I knew in the first mile I had made a mistake....but I thought wait a minute....this is a 460...ten years younger than my old 400....with only 9000 miles on....it MUST be Me. We set off for Venice a few days later....drove there non stop...took 26 hours from Cumberland....and every mile was full of thoughts of what a pleasure this would be in the old 400....and what a poor experience it was in this 460....BUT I still ...over the next year or so....tried to convince myself I was mistaken. What I didnt like about the 460 : Brakes are almost impossible to judge....like you have no real connection to them....terrible. Steering was a mystery....some days it was OK ish...other days it had a a mind of its own....over one bridge I regularly crossed ...it would dart around as if the Mysterons were driving it ! The steering also felt like an old car with worn out Track Control arms ....worn ball joints etc....wandered around over road irregularities....awful sensation through the steering wheel. Cruise control was so bad I gave up using it...and oh boy did I try to master it....but it mastered ME in the end....far too complicated for its own good.....slightest bit of dirt on the Radar in the badge and it would tell you on the dash that it was not available to use anyway.....is someone washed their windscreen if front of you it would say Not Available to use. When washing the windscreen with a hose.....water would pour out of the side winkers on the wings...Lexus Carlisle said it was normal. ? Wind noise around mirrors.....better if you put the window DOWN a few mm ?.... I did the JMc Raney fix that is on the Net.....and took a Caulking gun to the mirror mounting plates......I remember thinking....what am I doing....this car was nearly £70.000 New......it didn't really help...but tried to "believe" it did.....for my own peace of mind. Tyre noise is a given....and was expected with the quite frankly "Stupid" on a car like this ....low profiles rubber.... Engine lacked low down torque....needed to get it revving to make progress...again....in a car like this...Stupid IMO. Far too many gears....always hunting around... And Mark Levinson my arse....the 400 Stereo was better too. But I remember there was someone on here who was a disappointed as me....and it was a relief....I thought I had imagined the whole thing. Things I didn't like about the 400 MK3.....can't open the boot with the engine running.....that was annoying....but that's IT. Again..... just my opinion.....but that 400... is one of.....if not The Best Car ever made.....and to think you can waft around in one... for less than the price of one years depreciation on any new car on the market....well....quite frankly.....if you don't have one....your Crackers..... err...hang on....I have not got one right now.....excuse ?...need a Jeep for the muddy Hounds to jump in the back of. At this point I must again apologise to anyone who is enjoying their 460....I am not here to upset anyone... Things I liked on the 460....the looks....it is a Great looking car....with a great looking interior.....and the rear view camera was a Godsend. Sorry for long post lads....but hey lads......who else would listen ? ?

The Greatest Car ever produced Right There........and trust me......if you drive it for a few years.... every car you own from then on will feel Agricultural in comparison. Best looking model in my view.....changed mine for a 460....worst thing I ever did.....bored anyone who would listen with that old story.... Love the DHP wheels too.

Don't panic....Use GlipTone Leather food once a week for a few Months..... and it will look and smell almost like new .....but with added character.... will stop any more cracking..... and your leather will last for many years.....it is simply hungry. Re apply every few months after that...... and enjoy supple and GREAT smelling leather....it's great stuff.

I had a front go with a loud bang at about 60mph.....400 MK3......gave me a scare.... thought it was a blow out at first.....managed to limp the car home about 15 miles..... replaced with OEM and Dampers on both fronts together.....me and the wife did it in the snow [what]....its all pretty straight forward. A few weeks later he left back went.....local garage lent me their big spring compressors as he was a good friend of mine for many years..... He said the recent very hard frosts had taken their toll on many springs......one lad said his went over night while on the drive.... He looked out of the window and his car was right down on one side...... The cold makes old steel brittle ..... I replaced the rears and the dampers.....tell you what.....it was a great car to drive before.....but with all the dampers and springs done together....W O W. !

There was an old boy in his Seventies in my area.....with a Black 96 MK3... who made a point of hitting 150 over a deserted Shap Fell.... every time he took his three pals to play Golf somewhere....he said they all giggled like Schoolboys every time.... said it was what the car was built and designed to do....and would do it good to blow out the cobwebs.....and it always ran noticeable better for weeks later too....he was an Aero Engineer and knew his Motors..

I think this one is worth the money .......https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-LEXUS-LS400-ONLY-43-788-MILES-FROM-NEW/232529455743?hash=item3623d5ea7f:g:JVIAAOSw43hZ6Mgz&utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks in my view.....thousands of people buy a new "average" car and lose the same money in depreciation in 1 or 2 years....if I did not have the dogs it would be mine.

SH20....." Not ever experienced a 400 or 430 which seem to have legendary reputations "....I would have most likely felt the same......if I had not driven the 400 for so many miles. And those repairs sound scary at so little mileage.....but best of luck with your future miles in it....keep us posted.
