As others have alluded to...what's with this thing about making current/future motoring much more complicated that it needs to be? It's ridiculous, reading through all these little tips /hints/tricks people have kindly provided, just to try and ensure we can all drive our cars without thinking too hard, or worrying about it. It shouldn't be like this....manufacturers take note....people just want to get in their cars and drive...so sort it out🤔2 points

Further to my previous post; I should have said turn off the climate control and radio when in Ready Mode. In addition I have permanently turned off the interior lights to reduce the drain on the battery.2 points

Missed this when you first posted, but better late than never. Might help someone else too! The significant bit here is that the brakes only squeal in reverse. The anti-squeal springs (those little ones that look a big like unfolded paperclips, that hook around the pad) are oriented only to work in one direction, which is forwards. So, if your brakes aren't squealing when going forwards but are when going backwards... Well at least you know your anti squeal springs are probably fitted correctly! If you are comfortable with jacking up the rear and popping a wheel off to look at the brake pads side on, I'd echo Steve on doing an inspection of the brakes. As these are opposing two-pot calipers, you can't do the simple clean and regrease unfortunately, but what you can do is check for even wear across all four pads on the back axle. This this will show if any one piston is sticking. If you do see signs of uneven wear rather than a completely seized piston, you can generally wait for a more convenient time to sort it. The quick and easy solution is a new caliper or two, the cheaper solution is taking the calipers off the car and sending them off for refurb. The cheapest, but most involved option and one I wouldn't do on a daily driver, is to get the refurb kit and do it yourself. But TBH that's more a job for tinkering in your home workshop if you have time on your hands.1 point

As mentioned on this forum previously, I killed the 12v battery about 18 months ago when washing the car and had to be boosted by the AA. Lexus checked the battery and said it was fine. About 6 months after that it failed when loading the car to go on a day trip. Again Lexus said it was fine and wouldn’t replace it. At the time I said to them that the battery often read 10.9 or 11.1 volts across the terminals but they wouldn’t budge. I have since always put the car in ready mode for any time it is unlocked for loading, cleaning etc. I bit the bullet and bought a new 12v replacement battery from Lexus at it’s last service because I was suspecting that with my 18day holiday and the car stood out in the cold on my drive, I would return to a dead car. Having a dead car is only a minor inconvenience as I have a Booster, but I am sure the dead battery events cause irreversible damage the cells. Anyway. 18 days later and it has opened and started perfectly.😬1 point

A point that has been made many times - when calling the AA with a flat 12v battery we are sitting on a well-charged massive hybrid battery fully capable of “lending” a few amps to start the instruments.🤬 well done Hyundai.1 point

Tbh I cant say the steering feels heavy in any mode if anything I'd say the rack feels quicker in sport and sport+ rather than light1 point

I don’t know the one about the Asian community, but he certainly repeated false rumours about immigrants. In this case it was a pet-eating claim referencing Haitian immigrants in Ohio! https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-pushes-baseless-claim-immigrants-eating-pets-rcna170537 I think Trump must be the most poorly educated President in my lifetime. He’s worryingly susceptible to making totally unsupported claims. During the Covid pandemic I recall watching him pronounce that he had it on good authority that drinking bleach was an effective form of protection. Well, it would certainly be a distraction!1 point

Turning the climate control off when leaving the car in Ready mode will reduce the number of times the ICE kicks in as it won't need to heat the cabin1 point

Just a thought - you said in the original post that your ECU via Techstream wasn't accepting the codes. Were you putting them in as Decimal or Hex numbers? As I recall you need to put them in in hex. There are various websites which will convert the decimal numbers you have (probably) into hex format.1 point

I don't think wear on tyres would be so much of a difference that you would feel it. Since these cars have electric steering assist it is best to get to get it checked out either by Lexus or the waranty company1 point

Public sector pension liabilities exceed 100% of GDP! Add that to this month's expose from Investigative Journalists. "APSE is a non-profit organisation that advises members on how to improve public services. It also has clients in the private sector, such as Rockfire Capital. It valued the 32 solar farms for the company in October 2017. At that time it said they were worth £542m. When later asked Thurrock Council to increase its investment in November 2018, APSE produced a second valuation. This time it said the sites were worth £124m more than re than they were a year earlier. Based on this valuation, Thurrock also made multi-million top ups in 2019 and 2020. In total, the council increased its investment in the farms by £130m on the basis of APSE’s 2018 valuation. In July last year TBIJ revealed evidence that the value of the solar farms had been inflated because of figures Rockfire Capital gave to APSE. included a “direct instruction” that APSE should be sent a price far higher than had been estimated. APSE says it relied upon information provided to it by Rockfire Capital and had not made mistakes in its own calculations. Thurrock would ultimately invest in 53 sites. When they were eventually sold in January this year, the approximate losses for the taxpayer were £200m."1 point

I test drove an LBX in June, one short and one long (2hr) drive. Loved the car but my wife found the passenger seat uncomfortable so in the end decided not to buy. Eventually bought a new Mini Countryman instead for less than the price of the LBX but comfortable seats and a more comfortable drive. Often thought about the LBX but reading the problems people are having with the 12V batteries of many small hybrids I am glad I passed on the LBX. This was brought home to me by a neighbour who bought an LBX in the summer complaining that he has to keep trickle charging the battery or else he can’t start the car. He freely admits he only uses the car for short journeys and not every day but thought a hybrid would be ideal for that use with minimal running costs. Advice he got from Lexus dealer and AA was to make sure he did a longish drive weekly to keep the battery in good condition OR use a trickle charger. He is a bit upset because inn his late 70’s he could do without this hassle and thought he was buying a car suitable for his needs. I got the impression he would be swapping his LBX for something else as soon as his wife lets him!1 point

There wasn't a single date when they changed over to sleeping key fobs, it is model dependent, but it is around 2022/23. It took them longer than other marquees to make the change.1 point

Couldn’t agree more, think I mentioned before in 2009 Obama "invested" in new PV solar idea, $548 million. Within 24months Solyndra filed for Chapter 11. Who knows what other la-la schemes Miliband might be led up the garden path with similar claims 🤔. In the meantime the Beatrice offshore windfarm just became the 4th in the UK to attract subsidies of over £1Billion 🤯. Just dwell on that for a moment1 point

I am afeared for Pension Funds being corralled into legally compulsorily backing of strange Labour Govt infrastructure plans ……. We have yet to understand more of this but I wouldn’t trust ANY Govt with my private pension pot and plan ……. No Govts going to sensibly protect OUR pensions ……. let alone pensioners having rights to simply say “ Non “ It must be a huge worry for State Pension Pot Beneficiaries Malc1 point

I don’t know all or indeed any of the HBOS problem other than Lloyds Bank got shafted by the Govt of the day to take it over. And it caused Lloyds Bank immense unprecedented horror issues to its balance sheet …… and for its shareholders if Rachel Reeves was implicit in any of that debacle then she must now be held to account …….. surely 🤔 Malc1 point

I have an update. I ended up buying the distance control ECU (88240-30410) from a Lithuanian breaker on eBay. I did try to reach out to a couple sellers on Ovoko. They did say that they can ship to the US. But I didn’t hear anything more when I asked them to send me an invoice. Anyway, I received the part earlier this week and everything works now! I did buy the part for a RHD model, but I already had the ECU from a LHD 450h, so I just switched the housing over. I do have an IS steering wheel installed, so I’m using the sport button to change the following distance. Thanks everyone (especially Sami) for the help! For anyone wanting to do this mod with a RHD 450h, I do have a distance control ECU for cheap.1 point

The Conclusion: 1. Tracker was fitted by Lexus (Bristol). they seem to pre-register your details with Tracker, although this does not mean you can access the account/track online. They provide a small credit card with a few references numbers. 2. The day after installation I received an email from Tracker with a “Security Token” number on. Keep this email!! 3. I phoned Tracker, they already had my details but the account wasn’t activated. I installed the Tracker Touch app. They provided me the serial number (needed to open the app) over the phone and then you need enter the Security token from the email in step 2 4. You can complete the registration in the app with all the usual details (name, address etc). Note: the email address Lexus provided needs to match the email address you use here. 5. The app is then usable, you can see the position of the car, see the battery status, set the geofence status. Lexus have provided a 3year subscription to OBD. So that’s it! All working Thanks all for all the replies.1 point

I have this monitor, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295644935211?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338365712&toolid=20006&customid=EB277084762&amdata=enc%3A1cf_Cypp1QBSBSM2AZgYVTQ62&_trkparms=ispr%3D1 Terminals are about 8mm, battery bolts are 6mm I think as the connectors were a bit larger than the bolts, I just added a nut on each battery terminal to save disconnecting the battery and this allowed me to clamp the connectors between them1 point

Trump has always struck me as a classic, textbook example of a pathological narcissistic personality disorder. As I’m sure the likes of Lammy will discover, he is not a man to relinquish a grudge! As Putin et al know full well, the way to manipulate Trump is to apply generous quantities of Ego Massage. That he was able to get anywhere near the position of POTUS - without even going the more traditional Senatorial route - was surely due to the American tendency to confuse a TV Personality with genuine ability. A disillusioned electorate - feeling let down by an aging Biden and being offered no-one untainted by failure - was prepared to overlook Trump’s questionable business practices, his misogynistic behaviour and his often shaky relationship with the truth, and simply bought into his vision of a glorious future. Trump’s oratory seemed to me to consist merely of a glittering wish list to the electorate without bothering with the niceties of process. I often wondered why he didn’t also promise to transform their s*x lives and cure all known diseases! I’m sure he is the least well-educated President in my lifetime and has already demonstrated that he will embrace almost any passing conspiracy theory. I heard one member of his previous administration describe how Trump would ignore informed, expert advice once he had latched onto a more simplistic answer. Still, America has made its choice and Trump’s often illogical and unpredictable behaviour may make the World’s established dictators rather more cautious about what they threaten. Having now achieved what he undoubtedly regards as ‘one of the greatest achievements in human history’, I think Trump will now start to consider his legacy and that will determine his behaviour for the next four years.1 point

I guess members don't get too uptight about politics being brought up within this forum...? All I will say is...I cannot understand how someone like him, with all his baggage (no smoke without fire and all that) can be permitted to run for the US Presidency. He brought the office of the US President into disrepute before...and he's about to do it again. What an absolute shambles😡1 point

After 12 outstanding months of ownership I have traded my beautiful LS500h and moved back/over to Toyota for the second time. After 6 Lexus cars, five hybrids and one V8 4.6 litre LS460 SE L back in 2015 it is no great hardship to do this but without doubt the 2017 LS500h was and is the best car I have ever owned. From a sublime Plumb and black leather interior and every option that exists in the Lexus Arsenal I will transfer to a sea of black and synthetic materials in my new CHR, my second so far. The Toyota dealer has a sister Lexus site and when my Toyota salesman called them to get an understanding of how much my car was worth to do a deal the Lexus salesman was very keen to secure my car. He said at the time there was only one LS500h for sale in the entire Lexus UK network and when I checked he was right and that is still the case, a 2024 LS500h Takumi at Lexus Coventry. He assured me he would sell my car in a matter a of days because of the price point it would be offered at as one of the first MK5 models and because it was the Pleat model. I pointed out to him that my car was the Lexus Press Car for the first 6months of its life before the second owner took over and kept it for 5.5 years and then I acquired it. He was relieved to learn I did a deal and he will get his hands on it in due course. I have a short holiday coming up in the UK and it will be my last week with the LS and it will be hard to look back at it when I drive away in my Toyota.0 points
