Perhaps I should have written this in my introduction, but it does involve baring ones soul a little, which I'm not prone to usually, But it's my hope that I will keep my Lexus for a while, so I'll be involved in this forum as a matter of course. Very late in my life I discovered that I have Aspergers (a form of autism). Apart from it being a lightbulb moment, it means that my brain has different wiring to the majority of folks, a part of which means that I can be very blunt and forthright e.g. I don't suffer fools easily and can appear rude. It could be construed that I shouldn't be on a public forum, but I have a need to ask questions like anyone else and I feel (and have proven in the past) that I often have a helpful input in this situation. This is not an excuse for rudeness, but it is a reason and so I apologise in advance if I upset anyone. I'd like to say it's not intentional, but sometimes it is because there are people on the planet who shouldn't be allowed out without a carer. Feel free to tell me take a hike if this is inappropriate and thankyou for the welcomes, help and advice so far.👍3 points

Hmm, seems the only economy she has dealt in is the one known as economic with the truth. Surely to god, there is now an abundance of evidence to nail her fair and square as a liar?3 points

There is very little you can do with Lexus hybrids in terms of tuning. Using sport mode will help with more battery assistance on partial throttle and a sharper throttle response but it isn't a fast car.3 points

I dont think the wheels are the problem, your car may need alignment, also check the inner and outer tie rods2 points

Hi malcolm, There should be a 10amp fuse in the interior right-side fuse box under the dash which controls "Audio", fuse No.6 at the bottom of the longest row. Additionally there are two 30amp fuses in the engine bay fuse box just in front of the battery which are listed as Audio (Radio No.1 and Radio No.2) I would try the interior fuse as a starting point. Best of luck. Dec.2 points

Even if there were...it would not be recommended on a newish car as it would most certainly mean your warranty is out the window. Thats never a good place to be with Lexus. While they dont go wrong often when they do they can cost an arm and a leg to fix.2 points

I remember driving to a major power incident in Wick, got to Edinburgh and thought the Sat Nav was faulty when it said still 250 miles to go! Seem to remember a pub there called the Black Stairs?2 points

Given I was a bit hesitant before I purchased (for fun, mostly) some stuff for the car, I thought I would post it here in case it would help any of you.... and likewise, in case someone else found something that would be fun to have, I may wanna know! So these are links to items I'm actually glad I got (disclaimer: I'm not on Aliexpress payroll or anything): Car seat gap fillers (the missus said she does not know where to rest her phone) Storage bag for the trunk This is good to keep the road triangle, the first-aid kit, and all of those things tidy in one place Lexus umbrella for the trunk it rarely rains in Britain but just in case Anti-kick pads for the back of the front seats they wipe clean easily Neck pillows (mostly good if you need to take a quick nap, or for your co-pilot to do so –we groundhogs do a lot of that)1 point

We use the LS for pottering about, not fully loaded or sustained high(ish) speeds, so I’’ve set the tyre pressure for comfort at 32 psi all around. If I was to have four people in the car with luggage etc I’d put that up by 3 psi. There is no way I’d run 43 front 52 rear, (made up pressure)) the LS is for comfort.1 point

@Avantime congratulations on the purchase of an ISF, personally I’d love one.. As for the tax,, I have a Forester XT that is in the same tax bracket, (remapped, 300 torques) but I don’’t care, it lives with an LS400 (luxo barge) Jazz (run about) 911 Turbo (scared ****less, 600 whp)) and Reliant Scimitar SE6A with a 1UZFE engine ((classic car), so getting something that makes you smile is very important. Enjoy the ISF,, as I say, I’d love one..1 point

No problem Malcolm. I've learnt quite a bit today from folks a lot more knowledgeable than myself on issues surrounding LS400s. It keeps this old aging brain active and challenged. Thanks for everyone's help.1 point

Hi Jim and thankyou for your advice. Just a few minutes ago I wrote and posted this in my introduction thread. Another part of this is that I'm awful at learning from reading, I just coudn't swot for exams at school, which is why I was asked to leave at age 15. I can learn things from reading, but usually I learn fro poking about and repetition - I'll get there in the end. On a 2006 vehicle it will not fail an MOT with the light illuminated on the dash. Had this once with my 2009 GS 450h. It's just ignored as it didn't become mandatory till 2012 models. It is annoying though.1 point

Ok so after installing them there's quite a big difference between the OEM and the £15 ones. The £15 ones have a much thinner head and smaller holes where the clips go into. Also, with the OEMs, the head sits vertically with the small pin hole downwards where as £15 ones have to sit horizontally in order for the pin hole to be facing down and be able to put the clip in. I had to scrape a bit of the caliper and hammer the pin in a bit because of the head position and it being thin, I doubt they'll last for long. So for anyone looking at buying those, just get propper ones and make sure to check if the head is thick and the pin holes for the clips is oriented vertically down with the orientation of the pin head. Found OEM looking ones on AliExpress and they seem like better quality tbh. OEM look £15 ebay1 point

And had been involved in de-accounting Nigel Farage! How would that have affected her image? At least we don’t have a Minister for Health who actively promoted anti-vaccine conspiracy theories! Who would be stupid enough to appoint someone like that! 🤔1 point

I recently saw a recording of Reeves addressing a business conference during which she laid great emphasis on her previous experience as an ‘economist’ in the banking sector. If this claim is now show to be in any way false by a previous - and senior - employee of Lloyds Bank, then it’s going to take some explaining by her! I am somewhat surprised that only now are the claims in her CV appear to be being challenged. I would have thought that applications for references to her various employer’s HR departments would have set the record straight. Or just as significantly, a refusal to corroborate them. I believe that some mutterings by previous coworkers may have surfaced earlier on ‘social media’, but rather like the Essex Police visit to Allison Pearson to accuse her of a ‘non crime’, this has the feel of a story that is now going to run and run. With her past history of all the odium that this individual previously directed at Boris Johnson as an ‘inveterate liar’ I suspect that they’re already queuing up for some world class score settling.1 point

From what I understood, the OBD device is just for the app and used for tracking the vehicle on the app. Apparently they have also installed a battery powered hidden tracker that if the vehicle is stolen, you can call Tracker to activate it.1 point

the 97-2000 ls400 had 16 inch wheels for a reason the suspension and drive train was designed for them any other size makes a mockery of the original calculations for using that size of wheel. My advice is get those 17 inch wheels off which I beleave are off a ls430 that as a totally different suspension to the LS400.1 point

Download the Rufus utility, just go to Google and search for, Rufus disc drive utility at Rufus.ie and reformat your SanDisk drive. If you have your music files on this drive already, just move them onto your desktop and drag and drop them back after you've reformatted it, it's very easy to do. Follow the instructions (don't check the box to make it a rebootable drive) you just want it to store music and films. There is an online tutorial which makes it even easier to follow. Lexus I think says you can only have a max drive size of 32gb but mine is 256mb and I have loads of music and films on it. (You can only view films when stationary obviously). Hope this helps.1 point

I think you can change what is shown in the view lines.....check in your manual.....the online one, not the paper copy that comes with the car https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/about-my-lexus/manuals?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks1 point

You will get warning beeps if the car isn't turned off. What is important is if you are just sitting in the car listening to the radio or programming a route in to the Sat Nav that you put the car into 'Ready' mode (foot on the brake and press the start button), even if that means the petrol engine will start and stop, and not just turn on accessory or ignition mode (pressing the button without your foot on the brake). If you aren't in ready mode then your battery will go flat very quickly.1 point

I've just bought my 3rd 430 and have been driving the LS since 2005. These cars ooze quality and I get a reall buzz from that! 1) The paint and chrome work still gleams after 20 years 2) The shape and interior still looks very modern 3) The interior materials are the best quality unlike fake leather these days For me the 430 was the flagship and still look forward driving mine as if its my first day with it!1 point

You'll occasionally get someone who drops a snide or ill-informed remark when you run anything old and/or interesting. Amazing how many people think that newer=better without understanding what they're looking at. I realise I'm the odd one out in most settings, but some of my friends at least humour the concept of why my daily driver is nearly old enough to vote. Bangernomics is a word that I hate now. Not the concept, I admire the self-control in bangernomics. But the word, simply because one mate thinks that anyone with an older car is doing "bangernomics". I swear one day he'll use it when discussing a million-pound fully-restored classic with some beards at a car show and get himself hurt. On balance, I accidentally had dropped the snide/ill-informed remark when a mate got his brand new Skoda. I needed to run indoors to help with my kid, so rushed out something like "well, if you aren't really into your cars then it makes sense to have something like this that does the job". I'd meant it in the sense "this is reliable and competent and you aren't going to spend several weekends a year swearing at this thing with scraped knuckles because it's new!", but it came across as "harumph, clearly you are NOT a car guy and therefore I look down my nose at you". Gushed suitably about it next time I saw him, of course!1 point

No one in my sphere understands how or why I run an Ls400 ……. which I’ve been doing for about 27 years now …. they just think I’m a tad eccentric and must have buckets of £££££££ in the bank coz of my weird frugality …… nothing weird about 4ltr V8 limo comfort with impeccable reliability methinks …… maybe it’s just a little envy …… but none of it worries me one jot 😂🤣💥 Frugality and buckets of £££££ in the bank …….. hahahaha maybe eh 🤔 👍 Malc1 point

Just last week I had a snide comment from an acquaintance about me running an olde worlde dinosaur of a car. Apparently I should be ashamed of myself, and him having spent £45k on an all electric car (Peugeot E-3008) makes him a superior human being to me,.... so I started to explain to him about limited resources, about the real cost of recycling vs reusing, about open-cast lithium mines, about the fact that his car probably would not last the 21 years mine has already lasted, about the fact that I only spent £4400 seven years ago on my dinosaur, about the fact that I work from home and probably produce less total annual greenhouse gases than he does due to my low annual mileage, and finally about the fact that he was a self important little ****hole who could **** off and die for all I cared. So, he's no longer speaking to me, which is a relief. 🤣 A friend who overheard the brief altercation got a stitch from laughing after the ****hole stormed off. 😁 Ella thought I was a little harsh, but she smiled when she said it. ❤️1 point

I happen to be of a different school of thought vs the above i.e i had mine changed on my IS at around 90k miles and will be doing the same on my GS300h as well at its next service (~80k miles). If you plan to keep the car long in my opinion changing the fluid is unlikely to cause any problems. Plus you have the psychological satisfaction of knowing it was done. In theory no fluid can hold the same properties forever and the transmission oil will lose its properties over time so perhaps best to change it. Especially because you do it once in 5-8 years and its not very expensive. However, as pointed out above there are cars including some prius taxis that have mega miles without the ecvt failing despite never changing the oil. This could be down to the design of the ecvt. My understanding is the primary function of the transmission oil in the ecvt is cooling rather than lubrication and hence maybe even if the oil is old and black it doesnt matter it will still conduct heat all the same. But since changing it was only around £130 or something at lexus Hayes, i got it done anyway for the satisfaction of knowing it was done.1 point

Yes, I'll be keeping my LC500 as well. Will prices harden? I don't really care.1 point

From an enthusiast standpoint there isn’t much electric worth looking at apart from the Hyundai Ioniq 5N - but that only has 220 mile effective range I think. Thanks to net zero direction it’s going to become increasingly hard (and expensive tax wise) to buy expensive high carbon ICE cars new, so I imagine (in my fervent imagination) that bombproof used Japanese muscle cars with long warranties will be all the rage.1 point

Pull up front edge of rear seat - there are two clips retaining it and they are quite stiff. You can remove the squab completely by pushing the rear of the squab over the two rear retaining hooks or just angle it upwards and use a suitable sized prop to hold it. Front of squab retaining piece (one on each side): Front retaining socket: Rear hook and loop:1 point

Pretty sure lexus originals are Advics. Also if the groan youre talking about is the one that comes from the rear especially in stop and go traffic. Its normal. My previous IS did it even after changing to EBC and my current GS also does it (presumably original advics). When the time comes i recommend going with EBC ultimax as i had negligible dust on my IS the GS seems to generate a lot of dust with what i think are original discs and pads.1 point

I put new pads and disks on my (2010) 450H a couple of months ago at 63k miles. Pads were shot and front disks were quite worn - original brakes as far as I am aware - I've had the car since 2014.1 point

Hello, i own a 2019 250h UX, never had such a problem. Last september i left the car parked for two weeks at the airport and when i got back it started right away. Only thing i did for that two weeks period was to disable the keyless entry feature. In any case i suggest you purchase a Bosch C30 charger, it's easy to use and will trickle charge the battery. It comes with a cable that can be fitted to the battery terminals, it has a connector for the cable that comes from the charger. So no worry about short circuitings when it is disconnected form the cherger. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Battery-Charger-Trickle-Function/dp/B0CJV44GK3?th=11 point

You're absolutely right. The boot is totally ample. My lad and I recently toured Europe. No issues. Not sure why @Linas.P is concerned about boot space. People buy the LC for the looks, sound and rarity. I can't see people being out off by the boot!1 point

Biggest surprise to me is the poor mpg. The Gen5 models were touted as better but I'm bettering those figures with my RX4 which matches the 34mpg average and best was 44mpg. Software issues seem to plague some new models and cut backs to interior comfort and overall cabin quality would for me rule one out. The biggest issue for me is the engine though. A car that size using a N/A petrol engine needs a bigger motor. Really disappointed in the new models from the feedback I've read and from my own cursory look around a few. Was offered an ex-dem RZ but after driving it, knew it wasn't for me. It does nothing better than my ICE RX and lacks some of the features I currently have, but EVs are the present (current Li-Ion anyway), not the future.1 point

Had the RX 500H Takumi since December 23, ex managers car registered July 23. My second Lexus although my first was about 20years ago. Liked the look of this model but not convinced with ownership. Brakes making a squeaky sound, was told it was regenerating. Phone not connecting to media. Had it back at dealership three times. Has a courtesy RX500 and no noise from brakes, so I said to them. They Said the brakes had dust on them. Still no phone connection, can receive call & call out but only by touching contact on screen. Had it back they said keys need programmed as I had to touch screen to agree every time I started car. Phone worked, did an over air update on Wednesday, phone not working. I have a squeak when braking/ edging out not sure if a spring or something. I have also felt a judder when driving going through the gears, anyone else have these issues? Any help appreciated. sorry for long rant, would sell and go back to Volvo.1 point

My dealer took my car in for investigation of the intermittent wiper issue, they did end up replacing the wiper linkage which apparently has the wiper motor as an integral component. Had a 2 hour drive to Bristol this weekend in continual rain and the intermittent wipers worked faultlessly all the way without needing to reset them, even the wipe rate control now seems to be a lot better in terms of range and usefulness. I guess there must be a bad batch of wiper motors out there in the new models!1 point
