Just got rid of my terrible run flats, have replaced them with Goodyear efficient grip 2 what a difference! My UX is the 2023 premium sport and it’s incredible how hush the car is now, it drives better and no thumps on bad roads, I paid £167 each.4 points

Welcome Most 'bings and bongs' as you put it, are mandated by EU law (I accept we are not in the EU, however they aren't going to make a separate edition for a relatively small market) They can, in general, be switched off, if you are prepared to dig into the car's settings, but will be back again (EU law) the next time you start the car. All new vehicles are effected, not just Lexus ...most people just learn to live with it If you haven't done so already, download the manuals (there are two, an owners manual and a separate one for navigation and entertainment) your car from here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/about-my-lexus/manuals?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks Lots of bedtime reading...! Enjoy your car and post a few photos when it arrives....3 points

Ceri Welcome I agree with Steve. Most likely a failing 12v battery. Once the car returns from the dealer (hopefully with a nice new battery, I recommend fitting a battery monitor such as: https://www.ancel.com/products/ancel-bm200 that way you can easily keep an eye on it to ensure it stays in top condition. You are probably aware that it is a big no-no to have the car in accessory mode....it can flatten the battery in 20 minutes...always ensure it is in ready mode if you are in it. Additionally, if the vehicle is not being used for days at a time, you might consider a trickle charger, such as https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07JLX9J15/ (Other makes are available) A jump starter such as https://www.amazon.co.uk/NOCO-GB40-UltraSafe-Lithium-Starter/dp/B015TKUPIC? is also a useful purchase. Lots of arguments on the forum along the lines of 'you shouldn't have to buy these items for a car that costs £xxxxx' however I prefer to be 'looking at them rather than looking for them' It's a lovely car....don't let this put you off3 points

Ah ok, coolio! I’m all a bit nervous about it, it’s almost like I’m buying a super car.3 points

You will get warning beeps if the car isn't turned off. What is important is if you are just sitting in the car listening to the radio or programming a route in to the Sat Nav that you put the car into 'Ready' mode (foot on the brake and press the start button), even if that means the petrol engine will start and stop, and not just turn on accessory or ignition mode (pressing the button without your foot on the brake). If you aren't in ready mode then your battery will go flat very quickly.2 points

The best of luck with all that my friend. By the looks of it, the newer the car - the more bings/bongs/warning chimes you'll get. As I've said elsewhere, my car is 4 years old, and I don't have to put up with anywhere near the amount of bings/bongs/warning chimes I got in my 2024 LBX courtesy car. It somehow makes me laugh that plod can prosecute drivers for being on their mobile phones whilst driving, whilst car manufacturers can drive drivers to total distraction with infinite warning signals from a cars operating system without fear of any comeback...beginning to beggar belief🤔2 points

I've just bought my 3rd 430 and have been driving the LS since 2005. These cars ooze quality and I get a reall buzz from that! 1) The paint and chrome work still gleams after 20 years 2) The shape and interior still looks very modern 3) The interior materials are the best quality unlike fake leather these days For me the 430 was the flagship and still look forward driving mine as if its my first day with it!2 points

Here's an example of value nowadays: Curtain tie back from Amazon - £5 plus delivery £4.99 = £9.99. Local old established ironmongers in town centre - £1.95 that's it. There's a message in there somewhere.2 points

I'm in Ireland. Probably best to get an auto electrician to diagnose it properly.2 points

@Robertas Z. , hi. Yes the wiper motor was replaced under warranty as it contains the software for the intermittent wipe function. Your dealer should contact Lexus UK as it’s recognised as a known issue.2 points

Hi finally got 4 wheel alignment done. Rear needed more toe out I was out by 2 degrees 🫣. Front need more toe in again out by 2 degrees. Yes she feels a lot better. Very planted on the rear. Drive back from alignment was impressive no slowing for bends. Just turn steering wheel and go around bend. I didn't get pushed to either side of car during cornering. After putting in some petrol after alignment I got 32.8mpg on trip meter. This was on a 20 mile drive. Hopefully longer drives should see me closer to 35-36 mpg.2 points

Yes thats correct. Thats because once the computers have booted it is the inverter that charges the battery. It does this using power from the traction battery. So whether the engine is running at 1000 rpm or 5000 rpm is immaterial as all it needs to do is charge the traction battery which in turn provides the inverter power to charge the 12v battery. You need at least 30 mins of charge per week i think.2 points

Hi Ceri and welcome to the LOC. 😀 At 4 years old and with temperatures now falling the prime suspect, I agree, would be the 12Volt battery. Personally I would take it to the dealer for a check and not one of the “Free Battery Check” places where one of their “load tests” could create additional issues with the car’s computers if the voltage falls excessively. Basically if Lexus mess it up the car is already there and they will have to sort it. Although I have a petrol V8 the fact it spends more time in the garage not being used than driven plus mainly local trips when it is usually kills my battery in 3-4 years.2 points

Yes.. Sounds very Much Like This Could be the Problem.....Take it to the Lexus Dealership DON'T take it anywhere Else That would be my Advice..!!!2 points

Thanks for the info - I am hoping my install will be smoother as we had a full rewire 4 years ago when we rebuilt our house with so hopefully this side will be fine , we can run the cable into our roof void at the front of the house and then down the wall about 10 meters away, which should be included in the standard installation, I would prefer if the came down the cavity and out the facing brick if possible, but it’s not a deal breaker, I believe they are using a ABB Terra AC 7.4kW EV Charger branded Lexus so will sign up and start the process cheers1 point

I first used Ali Express many years ago and then forgot about it. Lately I went back on it and was amazed at some of the prices - they have come a long way with delivery guarantee and late delivery re-imbursement. My son ordered a beanie hat for 89p! - it didnt get delivered on time so they gave us £1 coupon 😆 I have ordered some small bits for my car aswell and well pleased with quality.1 point

You'll occasionally get someone who drops a snide or ill-informed remark when you run anything old and/or interesting. Amazing how many people think that newer=better without understanding what they're looking at. I realise I'm the odd one out in most settings, but some of my friends at least humour the concept of why my daily driver is nearly old enough to vote. Bangernomics is a word that I hate now. Not the concept, I admire the self-control in bangernomics. But the word, simply because one mate thinks that anyone with an older car is doing "bangernomics". I swear one day he'll use it when discussing a million-pound fully-restored classic with some beards at a car show and get himself hurt. On balance, I accidentally had dropped the snide/ill-informed remark when a mate got his brand new Skoda. I needed to run indoors to help with my kid, so rushed out something like "well, if you aren't really into your cars then it makes sense to have something like this that does the job". I'd meant it in the sense "this is reliable and competent and you aren't going to spend several weekends a year swearing at this thing with scraped knuckles because it's new!", but it came across as "harumph, clearly you are NOT a car guy and therefore I look down my nose at you". Gushed suitably about it next time I saw him, of course!1 point

Thanks for the heads up, but as previously stated I certainly won't be paying those prices. The ones on ebay are better priced, but there's not enough info about which spec and year of NX. However, it makes no difference as today I collected my new car and in 57 years of buying and owning cars, this was easily the best collection and handover experience I've had. I came from a 2022 Hyundai Tucson which I rated quite highly in the driving experience stakes, but this Lexus is definitely a cut above that, not in a dynamic way, but in an enjoyable, restful way. The drive home to west Somerset from Swindon was what I can only describe as serene. The question of mats and boot liner is now superfluous as the ones I took out of my previous car fit well enough. Next job is to figure out how all the technology works. much of it is like my previous car but a lot of it works differently. Here's a pic of the car in Sonic Titanium. Hope the attachment works as I'm not sure how I managed it.1 point

Haven't purchased anything for the Lexus, but have for a recently bought Abarth 595. A centre arm rest for £26 delivered. Normally about £75 from places in the UK. Best bargains have been for the alloy wheels. I removed the centre hub caps, and replaced with wheel centres with the Abarth logo, and chromed wheel nut caps. Did all 4 wheels for less than £6!! 4 valve caps with the Abarth logo for 75p as well! Delivered within a week.1 point

Notwithstanding the above, I am (very) reliably informed a driver does not need to go out for a thrash up and down the motorway to charge up a half dead battery…..having the engine idling (if you can get it started) will charge up a battery just as quick, and will use less fuel😉1 point

Thanks for sharing your experience @Mikaelse , may I ask from where did you find the aftermarket cables intended for the later model LS400 1998 to 2000 ? I've been struggling to find the rear right cable for my 2000 LS400, and about to do the opposite of what you've done!1 point

Enthusiast-wise there is nothing electric at all. Stick as many badges on it as you want - M, AMG, N - there is zero heart behind it. I had a Model S P100D - 700-odd bhp - for two years. One trick pony white goods. OH has a Honda E - rear wheel drive, decent chassis, reasonable power. It's nippy but boring. No electronic fake exhausts or pretend gearboxes can hold a (low emission) candle to a petrol powered car that's been blessed with a decent engine.1 point

Yes they can (by using the "Hey Lexus..." voice prompt). You can ask it (for example):- "Take me home" (if you set your home address as a "Favourite". Although for safety reasons it's probably best to set it a street or 2 away from your actual home) "Take me to 21 High Road Anytown" "Take me to AB12 3CD" (post code search) "Take me to Sainsburys" (and you'll get a list of stores ordered by nearest) More details on this should be found in the Infotainment user manual once you get hold of one.1 point

Exactly, and described very well👍 Plus, if the filter slips out of your hand into the drain bowl full of warm or hot oil there will be a big 'sploosh', probably oil all over the place and on 'you' as well, especially if you are on your back under the car doing the job, as most probably will be. Filter first or not filter first..............................that is the question🤔 🤣 I remember reading something a while ago that a garage changed to removing the filter first, can't remember what the exact 'method' was, and it reduced mistakes and saved time for the garage. That's for a garage of course not us DIY mechanics who change their oil/filter every 6 months or 5,000 miles🙂1 point

My '03 CLK is like that and I've always considered it to be very unsatisfactory. I think I'm correct in saying that you won't get an "add oil" warning until it's a litre down which seems a lot.1 point

I live a good distance away from the dealer I'm buying from, so I doubt I'll ever see them after I pick up the car today. It's all happened very quickly, only had a test drive this Tuesday and saw the car I'm buying at the same time. I'm happy with the deal I got, so I don't need to chase them for extras.1 point

I can recommend these mudflaps: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003549606878.html? As most of the oem parts are probably made in China anyway, it may well be that parts you buy here are made in the same factory1 point

Very good job Marcus! Food for thought with the pricing trend, but as it's been already pointed out - the depreciation in an ISFs instance is very favourable over literally most cars of it's era. I'll be out there looking soon-ish, gotta clear housing situation first, would do the other way around, but I know it would bite me in the end to get the car before buying a house. 😄 Still tempting! When I think about that road tax, I like to remind myself how reliable ISFs are and however you will probably leave a good dosh at the petrol stations, but you'll definitely save much on servicing over like German or any other counterparts, so you can chuck it in your road tax. Money needs to flow around, as they say. 😄 But the experience of owning one can't be really priced with money, the unforgettable memories. I'm going to stop here, as it's getting too poetic. 😜1 point

Oh, I don’t know… Remember, the Dealer’s aim is to retain you as a customer and make more money out of you over the years ahead. And the worst they can do is find - very sadly - that they are out of the item in question….. For example, I have a very nice Lexus umbrella…. Another extra you might want to consider is mudflaps. I don’t know if they come as standard on your car - and you can get them very easily on the aftermarket - and get the Dealer to fit them, if necessary. They proved very effective on my IS250.1 point

Strangely I was thinking of starting a similar thread. Things on there are so cheap you cant go wrong. I am extremely surprised at the shipping times as well most things arrive in around a week. I had ordered quite a lot of stuff for the IS from Aliexpress that i thought was great. 1 - Leather Gearshift knob - a good high quality replica of the one that comes on the premier variant. Fit my exec model perfectly and was good quality couldn't tell that it was an Aliexpress fake. Cost me around £25 2 - Mudflaps - By far the best £15 spent. Prevents the doors from getting splashed by the front wheels. They were DIY friendly to fit but the screws and fittings that came with it were useless had to use my own 3 - keyfob cover. Had a tpu one that was hard to press the buttons. Ordered a new alcantara one this time for my GS. £3ish for the TPU one and £11ish for the alcantara one 4- Auto mirror folding module - was easy to install and did what it said. Two clicks of the lock button folded the mirrors automatically cost me around £15-20 5- Tyre pressure diaplay module - This module sends the tyre pressure recorded by the TPMS sensors to the display. This is a feature that is not standard on lower trim levels. Cost me around £25. Things that didn't work out 10.3 inch Android screen - Not saying all are bad but the one i ordered was. It didn't fit correctly seemed to be of not so great quality. Overall i couldn't justify spending nearly £500 on the car that i would never recover. And i was right. When trading in my car while buying the GS300H no one cared about how tidy my car was, how well i maintained it or what optional add ons i had. They just looked at the overall paint condition, asked whether it had full service history. They the punched the reg into their system and were only willing to give me what their system spat out. Some pics below1 point

This month it's Michelin eg CC'S, and I like the fact it includes everything including disposal so no additional surprises. Oh and 2% for exec cards. 😊1 point

Preston lexus will source your choice of tyres for you and fit them. There is a bit of a premium, but for me worth it as they're responsible for any wheel or tpms damage. Had them do it for mine when brand new as I wanted cross climates.1 point

I think the system will need checking, get the codes read. You might be able to live with it but it will be an MoT fail ..1 point

Yes, last time I looked at Costco if you buy 4 tyres you get £100. Their prices vary: last time I found a better price online elsewhere, time before Costco had best price so do your research.1 point

IS250 already has "tachman compatible" immobiliser and that is it... putting aftermarket immobiliser in IS250 would be real pain. No - I don't believe it was cracked... ever. Also that is not how relay attack work, it does not need any cracking, it simply boosts key signal and car thinks key is inside. Besides the key range to unlock is completely different thing from immobiliser, one is handled by key antenna on the outside, the other is by ID code box internally. Long story short - boosting key signal is simple case of playing around with radio signals. Raspberry pie - this comes into CAN BUS hack, but that does not work on IS250, only on ~2016+ models. Yes - 235/40 would explain why your difference even higher than normal. as that would work out even smaller than 225/45 on 17s. That said 255 and 245 are absolute overkill for IS250 and totally unnecessary. I would go square 225 all around for nice RWD balance. 225/235 for completely neutral balance. Going for a thicker sidewall may be good choice.1 point
-
I have used a couple of dealers for tyres (not Lexus). Just ask them for a price for your chosen tyre. Some will do a price match too which is good.1 point
-
My experience: I told the dealer the tyres I wanted and asked for a price which I compared with the best online price I could get (have followed this procedure for years) and they couldn't get close to the online price. In one instance I was told that the dealer couldn't get it for the online price! Then purchased the tyres I wanted at the best price I could get, had the tyres delivered to me, made an appointment and had the tyres fitted and balanced at the dealer, at cost. It does mean that I pay for the fitting/balancing twice (as online tyres price includes fitting) but I know the tyres are good and good price and they are fitted by the dealer so they know how to deal with the TPMS sensors. Have done this several times and have not been refused but then the dealer/s look after my car anyway.1 point

A very kind offer to the LS400 owners out there When I had my LS400, like you I didn't even know it was missing and I think I was just browsing one day and realised. Luckily for me @steve2006 had one in his parts bin and I had his. Along with the plastic jacket that goes round the battery iirc.1 point

Yes, I'll be keeping my LC500 as well. Will prices harden? I don't really care.1 point

@PhilEFT If you're after a manual with cheaper tax then you need '55 or early '06 plate cars. My mate is selling his IS250, around 110,000miles, black on black, sat nav M&L car, automatic. Think he's after around 2500-3000.. Had it for years, just upgraded to something with folding rear seats.1 point
