I took the car out a run today up to Glencoe, Oban, down to Crinan, Lochgilphead, Inverary and then home, a good 230 miles. Absolutely love this car. Have managed to put 1,600 miles onto the odometer since I got it on 26 October. I decided to "exercise" the aerial by forcing it slightly up and down, gave it a good clean and put a bit of lubricant on it and it's absolutely fine now! so that is a result 😁.3 points

1) Change the hub assembly you think is noisy....2 hour job according to YouTube (ha!). 2) Test drive the vehicle to confirm that the issue has been resolved. 3) Oh dear, much disappointment. ☹️ 4) Change the hub assembly on the other side....2 hour job according to YouTube (more ha!). 5) All good. I know you were all wondering where I'd got to. Possibly. Not at all 🙄 Anyhoo, after being away from the brand for quite a while I'm now investigating the (GWS191) GS450h because I miss Lexus so. Looking at a couple tomorrow and no doubt I'll pull the trigger on one of them. My money is on the Mesa Red. I'd also like to say at this point how sad I was to hear about John (royoftherovers).2 points

Thanks for the reply guys My budget is really low, so the car I was looking at is £710, thanks to @Lexusjim for the links.. I will be going for a 2005, 91000 miles, automatic, petrol, with all the same trimmings as my IS220d, sat nav, reversing camara.. But costs nearly £1000 more.. but im hoping that the person I have is as good as he says he is at know a good car, as well as I have a garage that said they would get it up on the lift and give it a complete inspection, top to bottom.. So hopefully the engine is as OX (🐂) like and I can love this one, just as much as the IS220d Thanks again, next week, I might be a IS250 owner🙏🏼🙏🏼2 points

So I did buy the Mesa Red one. And a very nice thing it is too. 83k and a full Lexus history until this year when Dave at Lex-Tek gave it an intermediate service. Full hybrid battery system replaced by Lexus last year at a cost of £3700 😳 and currently sitting on coilovers as I guess the adjustable dampers went at some point. It's also fitted with a very nice set of LS430 wheels that really suit it but also spacers. I'm keen to remove these so long as the LS wheels will fit over the brakes. Pictures to follow.2 points

Lol. Sadly there arent so many 400s and 430s in Dubai now but in the other Emirates like Sharjah and Ajman they are everywhere especially 430s which locals nickname "F16s" cos they are the ones in the fast lane that strafe you with their headlights to get out of the way. If you get the chance to go next door to Oman it's full of both. Not sure about the scrapyards yet but I've spent a lot of time in Ajman car souk, which is great fun. A lot of parts I've used on my car were sourced from the scrapyards by my friendly garage but this will be my first visit.2 points

Well done. I only ever changed a drivers side front on my 2000 430. 👍2 points

Hi Nathaniel, I did it myself. I bought the new 18” space saver spare wheel and tools off eBay for £189.95. The fixing bolt from eBay for £12.95. I made the wooden top for the rim from 15mm plywood, costing £8. I made the front, back and side supports from a 60mm x 1200mm x 450mm Celotex Insulation board, which I already had, but it costs about £14 for a board. The foam filling in the Celotex board is quite strong, lightweight and supports the boot floor very well. Maybe I should patent the idea, but it could be quite lucrative for a professional company if they are able to produce the supports in a suitable, lightweight, material.2 points

Hi, So charged this up a few times at chargeplace scotland 50kw chargers and is it quite slow as its hard to tell. I'm thinking the car is calculating time untill 100% instead of 80% can this be set somewhere. Been here for about 60mins and it's went from 29% to 61%. it's taken 33 minutes to go from 42% to 61% so i'm guessing full charge is what its calculating as saying it would take 2hrs from now. Does it not show in the car the charging speed its getting in kw? Sorry for silly questions got limited internet or and left manual in the house1 point

IS250 was always much more expensive than IS220d, if you can get one which is just £1000 more, then I think it is very good deal. Provided the car you looking at is in good shape.1 point

I was in the process of ordering a 450+ when the Sales Manager informed me that they had just had a cancelled order, Takumi (Customer passed away!). The car had just arrived, same colour and interior as I was about to order but with more extras Pano roof etc. A bit more than I had intended to pay but I am so pleased with car. I have been fortunate to have owned sone wonderful cars however I must say this is the most comfortable and well equipped vehicle I have had. The Takumi extras just put the icing on a great cake. If you have to wait a months then hang on, it's worth waiting for.1 point

Yep, understand all that Stephen, and know all about the CVT system🙂 But when I put my foot down in the courtesy car (a 2023 UX 250h, not a 300h) the effect was exactly like it had dropped down a cog or two. Maybe the newer engine management systems effectively pitch the revs higher & quicker, and the newer cars effectively catch up quicker?1 point

The auto petrol is cheaper to tax, better mpg, cheaper to insure and many said a better drive than the manual. I'm surprised to read your post as your the only person I have ever read that speaks so highly of the IS220d in 12 years of being on this forum, thus I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the is250. It really is a great car. Pending your budget you should find a fully spec sel model...don't be afraid of high mileage cars as the engines are bullet proof... Best of luck with the search.1 point

Hello Thought I would introduce myself and my new car. Wanted one of these for ages and so happy with it so far (had it a week and already done over 800 miles just enjoying it). Unfortunately, I have a puncture at present otherwise I would probably still be driving! 😛 Patrick1 point

Get EBC with their ultimax brake pads theyre excellent quality OEM replacement and dont generate as much dust. But they're slightly premium vs other brands that you can buy at euro car parts. If you must buy at euro car parts then i have had good experience with brembo oem replacement and have heard good things about pagid. Also honestly most squeaks are due to improper greasing of contact points or usage of the wrong type of grease and believe me when I say this shops get it wrong all the time.1 point

I will say, the Blue is a lovely shade and makes the car look awesome. In regard to the Mark Levinson, it does make a huge difference, for me anyway. When I have taken my NX into the dealer, and invariably received a standard model, there is a massive difference in top end clarity, and bass. That's not to say the standard spec is poor; it's not, but the ML sound system is better. Some people might say the standard one is ok, and if you feel that way, great, but for me, I made sure I went for the Premiere / Takumi model.1 point

£715 is because it is Manual. Automatic is £415. You can also get very first Manual cars, registered before March 2006 and they are also £415. That said Automatic cars are much better (from reliability standpoint) and I generally think Automatic suits IS much better, manual in IS being kind of agricultural and really low light of the model. Seems almost like afterthought and not properly adjusted/engineered unit. Don't get me wrong - I love nice manual boxes, but one on IS250 is just not one of those.1 point

Dear all, Thanks again for all your help! (which will continue) as I have bought a Lexus NX350H 2023, which I collect next Thursday. Ive gone for a white Fsport with red and black interior. Bizarrely, it was advertised a premium plus Fsport (which I didn't think existed) but it does have the Fsport specification but has Mark Lawrenson speakers and sound system, which does not show as being standard on the Fsport. So I was a little confused by that but all seems OK. Its also got the protection pack (mudflaps and PPF on the rear bumper lip) but no boot mat and no rubber car mats, so again a bit odd. Other than Bridgestones on the back and Michelin Cross on the front (which I did moan about), but they would not have it you should not mix then and they should be changed. Next thing will be searching the forums to find out the location of the fuse box and fuse for powering my dash camera. Will be sad to see the RSQ3 go, but this is going to be a 10 year car. I have no intentions of swapping it for a long time. Thanks again for everyone's help1 point

I know it gets very hot there in Dubai Stan but do they only work on cars at night 😀 I only saw one LS400 a series 3 on the road between Dubai and the airport around where they are building/not building the new skyscraper or Burj Kalifa 2. What are the scrapyards like there, like the old UK ones when you could walk around and get bits off yourself?1 point

Issue resolved. It’s under the system general language settings. I had switched on automatically change for different regions. The car hadn’t done that so switching it off displayed some additional menu options including Kilometres and Litres so all good. Thank you if you were researching on my behalf!🤣1 point

Sorry to hear about your Diesel IS, they are lovely enough cars but are plagued with reliability issues so getting 8 years out of it was impressive enough. I own a 2010 IS250 with an auto gearbox and the tax for that I'll include below , the manuals are significant more in tax for some odd reason aside from 06. Tax (12 months)* £415 Tax (6 months)* £228.25 Insurance Group 29E Truth be told the IS is much better suited to be an auto in my opinion. The gearbox is silky smooth and the gearbox doesnt need any maintenance usually aside from 60k fluid changes if youre not a high mileage IS. F Sports and SE-L specs come with paddle shifters too if you feel like driving manual but I'd try and find an F Sport or SE-L top spec from 2005 to 2010 ideally, I picked up an SE-L top spec 09 for my mum for around £5000 mark.1 point

Assuming you dropped the oil when hot the volume will be greater than when the oil is cold, the oil will expand by around 6% when hot as far as I know. For 5.5 litres when cold that equates to 330ml more volume when hot (if my math is correct) and thus accounts for 330ml more oil. For 5 litres when cold that equates to 300ml more volume when hot (if my math is correct) and thus accounts for 300ml more oil. My method of doing an oil change with engine warmed up/hot - remove filter - remove drain plug - drain oil - leave draining for 20 - 30 mins - refit drain plug with new washer - fit new filter - refill oil to max - run car for a very short while - leave for 30 mins so oil is drained into sump - check level and top up so the level is just under max. Check again the next day when 'cold' and top up as needed.1 point

Yes, that’s really at the heart of the dispute. From the Dealer’s pov this damage can only have been caused after the car left their premises! (And maybe it was - we don’t know!) Unless Paul has some photographs taken prior to delivery, I accept it will be a difficult one to argue. No doubt this is why Paul regrets not doing his own PDI - as you so effectively described. But maybe there were mitigating circumstances when he collected it? Or he’s not an experienced car buyer. Whatever, I think the suggestion you make is a good one. And I would still be inclined to let CA have a look at!1 point

Always! Saab convertible went a while ago (along with the 9-5) and I've been running a Mercedes CLK. It's never missed a beat but I've done that now and I do like a Lexus. It's time to re-enter the fold I think. The GS is the logical choice because they're still a little on the drop and decent ones can be had for not a lot of money. Unlike my previous LS400s/GS300/IS300 etc which with hindsight I should have never sold. Hey ho... live and learn.1 point

I think Lexus car salesmen are cut from different cloth than the other folk. Whatever happened to "doing a deal" ? I went to look at a nice used Lexus last year and said OK I like it, No part-ex.cash sale, What can you do? To my amazement he said the price is on the windscreen and that's it. I said goodbye and took my money elsewhere where I got a good car a short time later - and a bit knocked off for goodwill, although they would not put a drop of fuel in the empty petrol tank. Cost me £70 within 5 minutes of ownership. A few years earlier Nissan gave me £5K off a new car, plus Nissan gave another £5K worth of extras for the last month of the sale, plus a good price for my part-ex. The car was OK but Nissan after sales were dreadful. So, Lexus is best but don't expect any favours from the dealer sales people.1 point

Thanks all, My saga continues but I think I am getting closer to Lexus ownership by the day 😆 So I put down a deposit on Monday afternoon what was advertised as a FSport 350H Azure Blue Takumi with cream and black interior, so the top spec. Took the day off work yesterday and drove nearly two hours to do the deal, to arrive to a standard Fsport (no Takumi spec), its partly my fault for not asking for some pictures of the Mark Levison door speakers to confirm the spec but at the time excitement took over and I just went with the listing. Asked the dealer if considering it was listed wrong there was any discount as it was a lesser specification, the answer was no and if I didnt buy it they would take it off sale for a while and then list it again correctly. I've only heard the ML Audio so far so no idea how it compares with the standard non Takumi sound system, but as a result it was 4 hours wasted and my search continues. Anyone who has compared them both? On the plus side I got to see the Azure Blue and Cream and black leather in the flesh, it grew on me in the short time I spent looking at the car.1 point

For what it's worth, I have the cream on black interior and have no regrets choosing it. It looks quite classy in my opinion. The cream sections provide some brightness in the cabin without being too "in your face". With regards to keeping it clean - I had protective sealant applied to the seats; etc. by a professional detailer so the occasional wipe over with a clean damp microfiber cloth is all I need. I would recommend getting this done but would personally decline any offer from your dealer (Lexus?) to do this as they probably won't be as thorough as a professional. One advantage of the cream on black is that you're mostly sitting on the black part so dye from jeans; etc, shouldn't be a problem. Hope this helps.1 point

Earlier this year I changed my 2020 RX Takumi for a new NX 350h Premium Plus with Pan Roof. I, too, had some concerns beforehand, but I am so pleased with the NX and delighted that I made the switch. For us, it's the perfect size, quality, spec, performance - pretty much ticks all the boxes actually. It's a better size for us living in rural area, whereas the RX was just too big (although I miss the sound of that V6). As for performance, I don't notice any difference and it's just fine - plenty of power. My wife loves driving the NX more than any other car. Me too. Not sure if this helps - best of luck whatever you decide.1 point

No problem - Any time. I found the f Sport suspension to be a bit too harsh for my liking; i'm not sure if the new ones follow the same pattern. Dealers are going to be hit and miss. I have had excellent service from Stockport - they were outstanding when I bought my first Lexus. I traveled 5 hours up there, and the dealership couldn't do enough for me. When we picked the car up they noticed there was something in the rear tyre, they didn't mess about and changed it for a brand new one. Cheltenham were good too - however I did have an issue when I picked the car up. The bonnet was covered in loads of yellow spots. THese were not here when I first viewed the car. Their initial response was 'take it and we'll give you £200 off'. I was a bit upset by this, however the next day the Sales manager phoned, apologised, said that they would get the bonnet resprayed, and get the MOT sorted (it wasn't in with the original deal and something else which I can't quite remember. My biggest gripe is that there are so few dealers around - I really wish Lexus would look at expanding their dealership network.1 point
