After looking around for a bit and some reading up I went for Osram Night Breaker 220 Xenarc - apparently for HIDs 4300K is actually the best colour temp for visibility with anything higher (or certainly over 5000K), although whiter/bluer which might suit personal choice, is scientifically (slightly) less good (given the same power etc.) for absolute visibility... They were £109 for the pair - 3 year guarantee on them but hope they do a bit more than that. Fitted them this morning and they look whiter than the ones I took out, which were original OEM and had been in the car 10 years before the first one expired. The OEM I took out were stamped Osram Xenarc on the base of the bulbs. The side next to the windscreen washer fluid was relatively easy to fit (after removing the washer fluid filler nozzle) although the plugs were really hard to get out of the socket as the tab to be pressed on the plug wasn't in an easy place and after 10 years they were well stuck! For the other side next to the air box I couldn't get enough leverage to open the case with the air box in place so had to unbolt it and pull it up to have it floating free to give me enough room to get my hands in and have enough leverage to rotate the case. Again, all probably easier when everything is new or recently opened, but after 10 years it needed a bit more effort... Anyway, all done now - will see if they are any different when next out at night. Thanks for all the advice and thoughts.3 points

I passed the advanced driving test way back in 1976 and and have benefited from very competitive insurance quotes every year since then from the Institute of Advanced Motorists' insurance broker. In fact they would always match the cheapest quote from Confused, Go Compare, Compare the Market etc. Last year's premium was £580 which was a fairly hefty increase from £424 in 2022. This time however I was informed that last year's insurance company (Ers) did not wish to offer renewal of the policy but Ageas Insurance would provide comparable cover for - wait for it - £2528!!!!!! I queried if this was the best they could offer and was told the lowest they could reduce it to was £1806. That's over £700 less just for asking. How can insurance companies possibly justify these sorts of numbers? Needless to say I was straight on to the comparison sites where the best I could find was via Go Compare. They came up with the Post Office quoting £830. I went ahead with this and when the paperwork arrived I was amazed to find the policy was with Ageas, the very same company that had originally quoted £2528 initially before dropping it to their "lowest" offer of £1806. So here is Ageas insuring me with the same cover for nearly £1000 less than their "lowest" offer. Crazy or what? Just as an aside Compare the Market also came up with the Post Office but through them it would have been £864 so it pays to use more than one comparison site. Good old rip off Britain and the government today boasting that inflation is down to 1.7%, ha ha ha!3 points

The Cool Blue Intense? Absolutely. Mine are 6 years old now and still fine.2 points
-
Well, there's also the Cool Blue Intense variant from OSRAM, which would be fully-legal, MOT-compliant etc, if that's a concern. The output won't be quite as blue/white as the 7000K bulbs that @IS300FSPORT has, since they're "only" 6200K, but they're still way bluer/whiter than stock bulbs. I was considering getting a pair of these Boost bulbs for my high beam, so I could better punish these idiots that don't dip their headlights for oncoming traffic. 🙄2 points

There should be another earthed piece of metal you can use - any bolt going into the bodywork.2 points

All you need to do is occasionally BOOT IT and let her redline in 1st and 2nd. Either that or else override the auto and leave her in 2nd to keep the revs up. Besides doing the engine a favour,.... it's FUN!2 points

So, just to confirm, the steering rack was fine, but my mechanic didn't know that when you put it on the ramp with the engine off, it will have a slight play, because of the steering rack not being hydraulic. I was desperate and went to get a second opinion and this other mechanic, who actually know one or two things about hybrids, showed me that when the engine is on, all the direction became stiff. So nothing wrong with the steering rack, just bad diagnosis 🙄. Regarding the ball joint, he showed me it has a small cut in the rubber, but I went like that to the MOT, and guess what, it passed, even without advisories 👌. Imagine being someone without any experience about cars, like my mom, going to this mechanic... Would have payed 4k for a rack replacement... Shocking how people call themselves professionals 🙄 Thank you all for your tech info and support. All good in the hood 🫡2 points

I had my NX done for a discounted price as part of my deal. I’m not usually one for coatings, but I am very impressed with the Gen-3 coating I had applied. There was an additional leaflet states the product comes with a lifetime warranty. It included the interior protection too and kits for both exterior and interior maintenance. The car definitely stays cleaner for longer and when it rains the water just beads up and rolls off. After washing it is much easier to dry off too. I would definitely have it again.2 points

For sale: 2000 LS400 Item Condition: Excellent condition, please see photo's Price and price conditions: £7,999 Extra Info: Detailed service history (including the original bill of sale) covering more than £10k of work. I've documented this in a spreadsheet which I'll try to attach. Failing that please ask and I will send via PM. All three keys present and working with the code tag. Supplied by Lexus Twickenham with one previous owner. I've got two LS400's the first I've owned for over eight years and use regularly as it is parked on the road it's a high miler not worth much with no history. This one I've owned for almost two years and is in amazing condition, as such it stays garaged behind a shutter and garden gates. Which means I don't use the car much, and paying for tax and insurance, with a change of personal circumstances means that I must sell. I know how much these are worth and that I've priced it well, so not really interested in silly offers. During my ownership I've had the alternator fully refurbished, fitted a genuine new lexus drive belt, fitted a genuine new lexus battery, genuine lexus oil and filter and new air filter and pollen filter these latter two were NLA from lexus. Pictures: Contact Details: My mobile number is 07742863651 Location: Birmingham Delivery & Conditions of Delivery: Please come round, have a tea, chat, look at the car. I love talking about them 🙂 Pay (bank transfer) and drive away a very happy bunny. W753 LFG LS400 2000.xlsx1 point

Is the iphone running the new ios18? ios18 is not automatically switching off bluetooth when connected to carplay. This should happen otherwise interferes with phone calls, siri and music quality. Major problem across multiple car brands at the moment. Suggested fix: Remove carplay 'Lexus' link from phone and reconnect. If doesn't work will need to switch bluetooth manually off when enter car until ios 18 updates.1 point

Usually it's just the exhaust Lambda sensor or possibly a bad MAF sensor. Bank 1 (Pre-catalytic converter) <-- usually the faulty one Bank 2 (Post-catalytic converter) rare to go faulty MAF Sensor found on the airbox remove it & see if its full of dust a clean may work but it's a fragile part have to be very careful. Spark plugs also a possibility as well as air filter (unlikely) Do you have an ODB2 diagnostic machine plug it in to read if there are any codes stored? A check engine light won't always light up right away. If there's no exhaust leak try bank 1 oxygen sensor if I was a betting man that would be the 1st part I'd replace followed by the MAF but they are not cheap unless you can source genuine from an eBay breaker. In the early 2000s owned a Honda Accord with a similar issue failed on emissions. A mechanic told me years ago to run a tank of Shell V Power & bring it in after a good hard drive to burn off any soot & as the exhaust is hot it will fly through emissions & surprisingly it worked. Although I acknowledge tech has improved since then so may not be as easy to get away with a good old Italian tune up1 point

I had a similar issue with my IS250, could be that the spark plugs needed changing that was my issue. Thought it was more likely a minor exhaust leak but even after addressing that it failed on the emissions til the spark plugs were changed, turns out cheapo ones were used instead of OEM dense 40k miles ago1 point

Well that was interesting! Had a call from the body shop - and they matched the ChipsAway price! However I had to point out that they’d originally said they couldn’t even look at it for almost a month. They claimed that CA didn’t have access to the official paints in the same way they did - and would be working outside, albeit undercover. However, that wasn’t the killer argument he thought it was. CA had thanked me for supplying the paint code, but pointed out that on a nine year-old car the paint would have changed. They used a spectrophotometer to match the actual colour - not the original colour.1 point

A short update. For me, it happened again. It got worse, after a couple of minutes driving with the navigation the system get's into problems. Driving with Android Auto navigation looks to be functioning flawless. But I hate if systems do not perform as they should and like the directions in the HUD during navigation. Therefore I tried the factory reset option. All settings are lost (except the milage) and the connection to the app has to be re-initiated. This looks to be solving the problems. The navigation was functioning fine during a short test drive (about 20 minutes drive) 🙂 I keep my fingers crossed and hope this will be the solution for my problem. Otherwise I have to go to the dealer.1 point

It is over 6 years since we swopped, but from memeory the NX was far more comfortable and more luxurious. Also the Q3 was 5 years old when we swopped so not really a fair comparison to compare a 5 year old Q3 with a new NX. My biggest bug bear at the time was the infotainment system in the NX, but that has always been a Lexus issue and I was aware of that when we swopped. Also the engine revving hard when accelerating but TBH accept it and learn to drive the car accordingly. The Q3 was more of a sporty thing really in comparison. The Audi dealership was okay as over the years I had got to know them (wife had an A1). It took longer to get to know the Lexus team as there was only one visit per year.1 point

Oddly enough I am replacing Eagle Asymmetrics. Three and a half years old but showing some cracking due to lack of use, (about 10k) I am told? Nothing dramatic but with an MOT due in February perhaps just as well.1 point

As an update to this I have taken advantage of this, 4 x Vector 4seasons, 235 /55/19's, fully fitted, disposal etc for £125 a corner. 👍🙂1 point

I think i'd love driving one, but I can't be doing with the craziness... so will stick with an LS430... if I can find one I like... else may go for an RX... or... lord knows what... difficult to replace having lived with a LS430 for many years1 point

Hi. I can assure your water in boot problem is in blocked trunk drains. I had similar issue when its was blocked and caused water to leak into boot above amp. Basically when you open boot on bot sides you have plastic cover that cover drainage area for boot. Ideally you want to take both plastic pieces off and clean all dirt and leafes from there. Mine was ok after up close jet wash through there bellow rear screen. In relation to your engine and steaming up issues. Check if your passenger side floor under mat is not wet as it could be blocked ac drain. Also check under dash if the screen is leaking inside. Engine issue could be also related if engine oil level is too low, had some cars before have cam fault when oil level was too low. Hope that helps.1 point

A possible revelation! So, after doing some late night googling thinking about that pesky camshaft error, I found a topic talking about verifying the connectors on the actuator solanoid on bank 2 because those wires tend to get loose. I popped the bonnet and started slowly pulling on the wires, and just the slight pull on the actuator wires, left me with the wires in my hand while the connector was still on the solanoid, so could that be it?? Could it have been that simple? I'm still thinking that the wires could have still had contact with the pins and that shouldn't really throw an error, right? I cleared the codes and read them again with the wires disconnected and no new errors showed up, just the same ones. I'll order a new connector and I'm hoping for the best.1 point

It's not about opening anything, the product likely doesn't meet the certificate's standard or perhaps the vendor never sought it because it's not worth it for the expected sales. A practical question is I guess what happens, legally, when you drive a non-compliant headlight onto the continent. I do that several times a year.1 point
-
European certification mark. Although we are no longer part of EU I wouldn't allow them to certify/dictate what's legal. Genuinley don't intend to open up a debate as its not my area of expertise but just my view since it passed an MOT that's good enough for me https://www.tralert.com/en/lighting-terms/e-mark/1 point

Yes, seems entirely logical and all the additional complexity of having both an ICE and Electric Motors, but the reliability surveys say otherwise with Lexus Hybrids coming out as some of the most reliable vehicles on the market.1 point

In my professional capacity as a seasoned Travel Agent …….. beware when now visiting Turkey …….many local prices are now in euros ……… locals in touristy business have abandoned the lira …… taking daily advantage of the local inflationary pressures have vanished for UK ££££ tourists Malc1 point

Here is a strange thing. I once went for awhile to stay in Turkey. Quite a few years ago now. I was shocked by how nice the people were. Comparing it to what I generally find in this country it was quite a seachange experience. Now with regards to inflation over there you do need to consider there are really not many outcomes that are better than to have your income in a currency that is stronger than that in which you spend. Here is a 10yr chart for sterling v Turkish Lira. Nothing further needs to be said as the chart explains all.1 point

The Cayenne is an amazing piece of kit, but it has a few VERY expensive common faults. If you are going down that route, join the Cayenne forum first and have your eyes opened. Also worth finding the Wheeler Dealers episode where they do a Cayenne Turbo S. I would say that £3,500 is a decent price for a 177k LS430, but it depends on condition and maintenance history. I paid £4,400 for mine in 2018 with 91k miles.1 point

I can’t believe how much these parts have gone up in price! It seems everything has doubled. An Aisin timing belt kit was around the £200.00 mark. My Celsior is getting ready for brake pads and even the “budget” Lexus ones from LPD are £80.00 per axle and it wasn’t that long ago they were £40.00 for originals.1 point

Had mine done coming up to a year ago. Used a proper detailer to make sure the "self healing paint" was OK, had it for 3 days in his unit, lovely job, supposed to be good for 10 years. Still looks fine but to be honest I don't think it's particularly worth it, I can see you would have to top it up to keep it perfect over time.1 point

Ah thank you - I picked up that he brought it for £3,500 8 years ago, - same price that it's up for sale for today 😁1 point

As the battery has gone flat, the mirrors have defaulted to not folding. You need to press the Auto switch again on the side of your door wing mirror adjustment buttons and it will function once again.1 point

Have you ensured the mirror switch is either in the L or R position? If it’s in the ‘neutral’ position the mirrors will not fold.1 point

If it is the accelerator position sensor part 22060-46010 / 22060-46070 (and not the throttle position sensor) then you might be able to repair it as they develop dry solder joints over time from the constant heat cycling. See here (video half way down): You can get them from a dealer in the UK but would be expensive. The other option would be to purchase a complete throttle body from a salvage yard and take it off that (they are unlikely to just sell you the sensor). If you got a second hand unit I'd recommend resoldering the joint so it doesn't quickly develop the same issue.1 point

👍 Used the same approach for my ES. First reaction from my dealer was my vehicle had SW updates that meant I didn't need the tracker, contact Lexus CR and the dealer was told to install the tracker.1 point

Quick update: The rear rack was fixed at a total cost of about 4.1k Euro - 1K euro for fitting + ECU and other stuff I had done + 3.1k Euro for the unit itself which included Delivery + VAT + duty. I ordered the required rear steering part from Amayama Japan and it arrived after a few weeks - I must say their service is incredible! Lexus Galway fitted it no problems and will warranty the work/unit for 12m. The ECU controlling the steering unit had also fried which was another ~2.5K euros (!) but luckily they had one from another customer and sold it to me for 10% of the price. So, in the end an expensive fix, but the original price was well north of 12k so I think I did well enough to get costs down thanks to this great forum. Cheers to everyone who replied. Damien1 point
