  1. Now if only all trips were downhill from the petrol station 🤣 Yes, refuelled and reset the trips and headed the 1 mile home, mostly downhill and in EV mode (not forced, I didn't press the button!)

  2. Just said goodbye to my 2022 Lexus RX450h... it was my third in a row and was going to be my last car as was planning to keep it long term .. but plans changed. I am emigrating in a couple of weeks time and will, most likely, buy a Toyota in the country I am moving to.

  3. Therein lies the whole point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Lexus. They should be much more open and honest in their advertising and they should fully explain this design 'feature' and how it may affect the owner of the car. What I am saying is that the presence of a 'Hybrid' badge denotes that the car is different to a conventional one and that owners can't just completely wash their hands of all responsibility. They need to find out just how it's different and how it will fit in with their own circumstances and/or driving habits, and luckily we live in a time when doing research has never been easier. The Internet is awash with information and a bit of time spent with Mr. Google would reveal all. What gets me most is how indifferent and seemingly uninterested people appear to be in this respect, e.g. "Nobody told me..." or "It's not my job to look for information..." When I buy a car my wife says that I'm an absolute nightmare to live with for 2-3 weeks because I'm as excited as a 2 year-old rather than my actual 67 years. I surround myself with magazines, brochures, and anything to do with my prospective purchase. Or at least I did; now I just spend hours and hours on Google but you get the gist. I make it my mission to find out as much as possible, both the good and the bad.

  7. Hi have got around to doing an oil change on my 2004 LS430. Got genuine filter off eBay from a company called JDM ?????. Photo attached of filter after I finally got it off. Instructions on filter say to hand tighten then do a 3/4 turn with a approved tool. Last oil change was done by Lexus Edinburgh. I drained near 5.5 litres plus 300ml from oil filter. That makes 5.8 litres plus what I managed to spill on road 🫣. To get to full mark on my LS430 it took 5 litres. Never really took much notice before as engine oil was very clean (hard to read level) with car parked on slope. Hopefully got photos attached showing how much oil I drained. Think Lexus Edinburgh over filled my engine, but when looking online to check oil capacity there are 3 amounts for 2004 LS430. Lowest on is 5 litres for oil change. Highest is 6.5 litres for a fill on dry engine. Think technician took wrong number for a fill. I did buy a service kit from opie oils which included 6 litres of oil. So I have an unopened 1 litre of opie oils nano tech oil. Car does perform alot better but whether is down to clean high spec oil or having right amount of oil in engine, or combination of both.

  10. Hi thanks for replies. I have bought new toe in/out adjusters arms from hard racing. Very nice bit of kit. Removing arms on NSR was a piece of cake. Took an hour from getting car jacked to replacing wheel. OSR rear was the complete opposite. Had 3 ball joint splitters to chose from. As the ball joints are deep two would not work. Had to go the brutal old fashioned way. Ball joint wedge and lump hammer. Still could not split it as I ran out of gap between forks. So went off to buy a propane burner to heat up ball joint housing to help remove it. It removed ball joint and steel insert for aluminium housing 🙄🫣. Separating ball joint from steel insert was a 💩💩💩 of job. Getting insert back in was just as bad. Managed to destroy old ball joint now in all its separate parts no sign of wear in ball joint after 320k miles. Lexus knew how to build longevity into the LS430. As for toe in/out I have done a rough measurement using a tape measure. Gone from 9 o'clock on NSR to 3 o'clock OSR on front of rim. Reversed for rear of rim. Divide the difference by 2 which gives the amount to alter each side. LS430 has very slight toe out at rear. So have set it as close to parallel as possible. Need to to find a 4 wheel tracking place to set it it perfectly. This could be 100 miles down the road so need it as close as possible without upsetting handling and scrubbing tyres on inside edge.

  11. Some of these MOT Advisories seem to mysteriously fix themselves like the Starship enterprise. To be honest everything on a 2007 car is going to be slightly worn, it's a pretty meaningless statement.

  14. I also have the Ammonite Sand and I think it looks really smart. I personally think the interior is far superior to the previous German makes I have owned. The Bamboo certainly does not cause me to dislike the interior scheme. I do confess however to keeping the soft sliding cover for the phone charger compartment open as that piece reminds of the Formica top kitchen table in my student flat.😀

  21. That is one of the two Power Steering Fluid coolers. It's really just a U shaped piece of metal pipe in front of the radiator but that's enough to keep the PS fluid cool. There is one between the Pump and the Rack, and the return one between the Rack and Reservoir. https://lexus-europe.epc-data.com/ls430/ucf30r/5111/chassis/4503/?color=8P8&trim

  22. Rational decision making tells me - don't go there. Being irrational occasionally though injects some spice to life . . . albeit at a possible cost as many have pointed out. I feel I'm being convinced of a 400/430 may be the way to go. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure.

  23. Current UX is old and expensive. Price crosses over to a base NX. Mag X (an auto scoop Japanese magazine) has sketches of the new UX. Front end like a mini RX and rear like a LBX. I assume the interior will mimic the design language of the LBX. Expected 2026 model year which is next March. Initial rumours are that it will be electric only but here’s hoping Lexus comes to its senses and continues with the hybrid.

  25. As you all know, I've removed my JDM infotainment unit and replaced it with a TEYES unit which looks good, works well, sound output is ok - not the best, BUT its Android and has all the bits an android head unit has. My only gripe is that I can't control my climate control, which is needed this time of year as can't really drive with windows down... So I just bit the bullet, took a chance and bought a UK spec infotainment unit from ebay a 2011 car being broken. Got it for a steal - £190 delivered and its unmarked in excellent condition. As a bonus, it had 5 CD's in it. Really pleased as my JDM unit had a HDD and so does this. All that is of no real use is the navigation which I'm not worried about as it's dated and not as good as what we are used to on our phones. Also sounds better than the TEYES unit. May still keep the TEYES and if I finally sort the climate control, I'll be a happy bunny 🙂

  27. Yes, NEVER use accessory mode for more than a minute or two - always go into full Ready mode when possible. You don't need to give the car a run to recharge the 12 v battery - just put it in Ready mode for an hour to charge it (petrol engine will start/stop as needed by the hybrid system to keep the hybrid battery at the correct state of charge.

  30. I had mine fitted to my RX Tuesday last week both the tracker and the OBD. I left the dealer with the Tracker card and was told I would be sent documents by Tracker. I rang Tracker today as I hadn't received anything and they emailed the dealership and it is now sorted. They don't issue stickers as they don't believe advising a would be thief that a tracker is fitted so they don't go looking for it. The Tracker fitted is a S7 Locate as far as I am aware and Lexus have paid for a 3 year subscription but it does not seem to be transferable to a new owner if you sell the car. That is what the Tracker T & C s say however it might be different as Lexus paid for the subscription and not me. My car is a 2016 so already 8 years old so I doubt if I still have the car in 3 years time I will renew it. From my understanding of the system I don't actually see the point of the geofence on the app as if it is on apparently you will get an alert by email every time you drive the car that needs a response back to Tracker to say the car is not being stolen within the range selected for any given location. You can set this to a range of 250m to 5000m. The other option on the app is to use safe mode with will alert Tracker if the car is moved at all. This does mean you will have to turn in on and off every time you enter or leave the car via the app which although a pain seems to be the best option. So with this Tracker, Pandora Storm Immobiliser and plates fitted I don't see what much else can be done to make the my car any more protected from theft.

  31. Given that your car is brand new, you should be able to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Given that Lexus navigation is usually rubbish and also out of date, why not use AA or ACP and use Waze (my personal favourite) or Google Maps, or Sygic, or TomTom, all of which are better than the factory offering? Waze and Google Maps are updated (free of charge) on a daily basis and even 'on the fly' in the case of Waze. If you approach a traffic jam or roadworks for example, you can push a button and the info will be uploaded and pushed out to all Wazers within minutes.

  33. @Secret Green Sauce 120K Service, Radiator and wheel alignment are not required for my car, hence you should exclude these items from your quote to get the cost. You should definitely shop around to find a better price. Can we post a third party URL here? (Not sure!)

  34. @Secret Green Sauce Sorry for the delay. All my items have arrived except for two(Please refer to my other posts), and so far I've spent £900, with an expectation that it may go up by another £100. I purchased everything from three different retailers, and I have yet to book the garage for the labour, which should cost around £600. I’m not in a hurry, so I’m taking my time with everything.

  35. Hi, I am interested in the reasoning for the link between Solar Panels and an EV. We had solar panels fitted in June and it seems to have been cloudy ever since. Maybe Kent gets more sun than Cheshire. I have just got £18 back from the smart export guarantee for June to mid October, after an investment on £7000 for the panels. Five solar panels and two batteries. We charge the cars once a week at night on the cheap rate. 100 mile range for about £3. What seems to happen is the solar battery starts the day at 20%, the minimum, then during the day the power produced by the panels chargers the batteries up, if it’s sunny the batteries are fully charged by mid afternoon and I can export electric back to the grid. Then in the evening the oven and other electric usage drains the battery back to 20%. During the day electricity usage is usually taken from the batteries and panels except for large current draw eg shower. So during the day I use less grid electricity. However I haven’t seen a drop in my monthly direct debit. I am just now in credit of £300 on my electric bill. I assume you are thinking of drip charging the cars from the panels during the day when it’s sunny. I haven’t done this as the cheap rate electric used overnight is 8.95p a unit and day time 31.31 p per unit on British Gas EV 5 tariff (newer Tarifs are different) Any electric I send back to the grid is 15p per unit. So it makes sense to charge the cars at night, use solar in the day to charge the solar batteries and power the house. Any excess is earning 15p rather than saving 8.95p as I’m not charging the car night. Oh, and we seem to have attracted the pigeons who like to go under the panels. Consider a bird guard for the panels. I am not trying to put you off solar panels but the cost payback for my installation in a very long time. Of course there are other benefits to solar in terms of climate and novelty value. I hope this helps Paul.

  36. I've just changed my radiator again after the one I bought 5 years ago started to leak. It had cost me £100 off eBay. This time I priced a radiator from my Lexus dealer at £650 inc. VAT. (Don't forget to add VAT to the dealer prices.) So it was back to eBay and the price was still £100 inc, VAT after 5 years. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152429318586 ( If you look at the picture of the radiator on eBay, the top right hand corner has a small connecting pipe that goes to the reservoir bottle. Check you buy a radiator with this connection. All LS430s sold in the UK need this connection.) Other things like coolant look expensive at £90 for 6 liters - when 4 liters of concentrated coolant from COSTCO costs just over £10 and will make 12 liters when diluted. (The car needs 10L) I would not buy any idler pulleys without checking the existing ones first, if they turn smoothly and silently leave them alone. Belt tensioners are something else I would not replace. ( I bought a serpintine belt tensioner 10 years ago, and over 100K miles later it is still in its' box! ) 5 years ago I bought a genuine new timing belt and pump and got a local Lexus dealers' service department to fit them for £650.

  37. Hi Jon, Thats strange as my app said the same before delivery but the options then just appeared a day or so before. I presume this is a dealer issue so I’d go back there and find out how to activate all the features. this is what I see so yours defo isn’t right. You should have 3 services available under My Garage and Connected Services Centre.

  39. Having recently sold my LC, just thought I would share my selling experience in case it helps anyone else if they are unsure how well they work. Selling a car of this value privately isn’t for me (actually, these days make that at any value), even if you could possibly get a little bit extra, so I phoned around a few Lexus dealers. I was offered between 66 and 71K. At this time, We Buy Any Car were only offering around 65K. I contacted a few high end showrooms directly such as Redline (who bought my Gulia Quadrifoglio with no hassle), and Romans, but ultimately, although they initially aid they were very interested, it didn’t lead anywhere and I got fed up chasing them, so I thought I would put it on ‘Motorway’. The process was fairly straight-forward to use and once they had all the info and photos of the car and documentation they needed, it went into the next days auction. I had three offers by that evening, the lowest being 67K, the highest being 75K. You only find out who the highest bidder is if you accept, so I was relieved to find the winning bid was by Lexus themselves, at Gatwick. There are certain ‘specialist’ garages out there that have a very poor reputation with regard to picking the cars up and paying out, (i.e. saying they will pay once they get the car back to their showroom and the manager can inspect it...) etc. I decided to accept the offer, and within the week, the car had been collected, with the money paid into my account before they drove it away, so all very hassle free. No doubt it doesn’t always go this smoothly, but I think on a majority of occasions it probably does and I would recommend considering using services like Motorway or Carwow. Financially, of course I lost a reasonable sum, but if I hadn’t bought carefully, or had bought some of the other cars I was considering, I could have lost much, much more. Ultimately 5K for 7 months ownership of a nearly new 100K car is very reasonable. I’m not saying 5K is loose change, it certainly isn’t, but it’s all relative, and there’s plenty of people out there paying 1K a month to finance their mundane daily drives, while I had a beautiful LC at my disposal all 'summer'. I have also looked at leasing some exotic cars in the past for a few weeks/months over summer (never did in the end), and 5K wouldn’t have gone far at all.

  40. Your car has factory-fitted CarPlay and given that price, I reckon it's just a wifi dongle. Jonathan's 2014 car and my 2018 car don't have CarPlay at all, so we have to buyCarPlay/Android Auto units first before needing wifi. I think the BeatSonic in the video is around £300 and my Grom Vline 2 was about £530.

  41. I'm pleased to say that I've sorted my problems eventually. I had all 4 wheels balanced on a road force balancer. Two of the wheels needed the tyres rotating on the wheel and much less weights added in the end. The car is now so smooth at all speeds. I'll never balance another way again. Thanks for the advice everyone.

  47. I have had the Scorpion X fitted to my NX450H+ F-sport 4 weeks ago and no major concerns. The only caution I would advise (as desxribed to me bu the installer) is to make sure the PIN code uses at least two button groups e.g Window or Mirrow AND steering wheel buttons otherwise valet mode may not work. I was told that the steering wheel controls operate off LIN bus (a lower performance / lower cost version of CAN bus) and this can be a little laggy. I have also noticed that it is better to wait for the vehicle to power up before entering the PIN, e.g wait for all the dash check lights to go off. In terms of testing I am checking different things every day including remote functions such as the App controlled climate control, remote door locking through the App, on demand charging, scheduled charging and so far everything is working. I will be checking the Valet mode over the weekend when I have some time to just sit in the vehicle and play.

  48. Ditto. I've just had a Ghost II fitted to my new NX350H (MY24 spec) with no problems. It works as described. Having said that, the Autowatch recommended installer I used said this model of the NX had revised cabling to the previous models he's installed, and needed to speak to a couple of contacts to confirm some details. Within the limits of what one can do to protect one's assets, I'm glad I went for this product.
