Oh the rest of the house isn’t looking bad either, the builders still aren’t 100% done though 😃 ……….not sure why, but the ‘attic’ network hub is one of my favourite parts of the house 🙂5 points

Good evening, I have tried many different glass cleaners, an American one which i stumbled across in TK Maxx is the best i have ever used. Made by a firm called Stoner, it's called Invisible Glass,😭 but works a treat and is available online.👍 Best wishes, Steve.3 points

I ran a NX450H for 2 years and didn't experience any annoying road noise issues with the Bridgestone RF tyres. As I have said on this forum previously I was not a great fan of RFT's but having then suffered a puncture on a motorway I appreciate the practicality of these. If I could have specified these on my RX450h+ I would have!2 points

I would agree with Ken above. I had a NX300h for about 2 1/2 years before my NX350h. There is definitely enough oomph when you need it (e.g. entering a motorway; overtaking; etc.). My boy racer days are well behind me but I found that the car had enough power for general day-to-day motoring. As far as comfort goes, I never had a problem with it. In my experience, rather than being bouncy and crashy, I found that it wafted along very nicely. The car never skipped a beat in all the time I had it.2 points

Ah yes, the wisdom of crowds 😊. Reminds me of Socrates and his view of democracy, viz, "Socrates knew how easily people seeking election could exploit our desire for easy answers. He asked us to imagine an election debate between two candidates, one who was like a doctor and the other who was like a sweet shop owner. The sweet shop owner would say of his rival: Look, this person here has worked many evils on you. He hurts you, gives you bitter potions and tells you he not to eat and drink whatever you like. He’ll never serve you feasts of many and varied pleasant things like I will. Socrates asks us to consider the audience response: Do you think the doctor would be able to reply effectively? The true answer – ‘I cause you trouble, and go against you desires in order to help you’ would cause an uproar among the voters, don’t you think? We have forgotten all about Socrates’s salient warnings against democracy. We have preferred to think of democracy as an unambiguous good – rather than as something that is only ever as effective as the education system that surrounds it. As a result, we have elected many sweet shop owners, and very few doctors." As true nearly 2500 years ago as it is today 🙂2 points

Have you checked the charging schedule that you may have set on the car? I eventually found that cancelling that and resetting the charger locked on. Also worth checking that the wallbox is receiving a signal and has power.2 points

I had a NX300h from 2018-2022. Perfectly adequate power for acceleration when required. Never experienced bouncy and crashy. Great car - 100% reliable.2 points

Work on the house has progressed massively, stairs and kitchen is in. New master bed room suite looks amazing, and we might even have completion date soon :). We also ended up wasting some money on something totally unnecessary but so much fun for the garden :)2 points

These were these days sold out or discontinued where I looked online ( extensive search). They were rare but available just 1 year back or so. So I bought aftermarket cables intended for the later model LS400 1998 to 2000 and hoped for the best. It was possible to fit these with rather small effort . They looked quite ok also quality wise. There are two simple brackets each that attach the cables to the chassi en route on reinforced sleeves on the cables. (The old brackets were rusty but ok). However the 1998 to 2000 cables are exactly same same except about 1 inch or 2-3 cm shorter Hence the S-curve they need to be routed is a bit different (straighter which is probably good). This means that one needs to make some simple new brackets with a bit different shape to route the cables a bit different. My opinion is that one bracket is enough but LEXUS used two so I did too. Route without force in smooth bends for cable to work well. I made the brackets from stainless steel band material 20 mm wide I had laying around that I bent in a vise after some cardboard pieces tests. Then you drill 8 mm holes for the screw. (The thread was stil ok after 25++ years). No need to do big science of the adjustment. I put it in adjusted same same as the old cable. Worked well.1 point

Given the LS460s rather complex suspension set up, has anyone had any issues with getting the alignment done at their local laser alignment place? Or is it a job that ideally requires someone with experience of it? I recently had my wheels refurbished and the chap highlighted that the way the rear tyres were wearing indicated that the car would benefit from an alignment. To rule out worn joints I'll check for play next time I have it up on ramps but... If I need to replace anything I'll still need to have an alignment done anyway!1 point

I've just gone through this set up. You can go into your profile and remove the keys once you have set up face recognition or linked a phone. You can then re-add one of the keys in your profile, close the car and reopen it with the other key and add that to your wife's profile, you can also add her phone and get her to do facial recognition when sitting in the drivers seat. She will need to have set up a lexus account to store the profile online I think. From the manual "The user profile can be registered or changed. By registering a user profile, driving positions, multimedia settings, and various other individual vehicle settings can be saved as a profile for each driver" I'm still playing with this so I'm not sure what "various other individual vehicle settings" actually means, I'm assuming maybe meter and steering wheel switch customisation, perhaps some more experienced owners can clarify?1 point

That sounds like a good option plus people will follow you home and commiserate with you instead of stabbing you😚1 point

Fran, if you buy the LS400 I would love it if you can keep us updated on the work you are doing to it. Two resources you may wish to consult before making your final decision: Charm.li - this is a US-based "right to repair" website that includes a lot of workshop manuals, including the LS400. These are very useful when understanding how to overhaul, service or replace the many components of an LS! Amayama.com - this is a Japan-based exporter of car parts. Surprisingly, I can see that most of the air suspension components are still available for Series III LS400s on there. It might be worth having a browse to see the sort of costs you are in for. I hope you will make a decision that you are (ultimately) pleased with!1 point

Fingers xd ……. maybe a drain down of the transmission for a start ………. Purge, refill and doing that a couple of times might just “ free-up”. something strategic …….. if not then it’s very little lost in the attempt to save a fortune ……. fingers xd 🤔 Malc1 point

"The car is a Lexus and in this regard is bulletproof both the engine and transmission..."? Engine maybe but the transmission is, by description, already problematic and I personally have experienced a transmission failure on a newer car (1998 model) and Lexus couldn't fix it ...1 point
-
The car is a Lexus and in this regard is bulletproof both the engine and transmission ,being in Spain there should not be much corrosion so for a few hundred euros you have a project. The trans fluid maybe low and the suspension is fixable and there is a library of advice both on the UK and USA Lexus owners sites . All the known historical faults are on record so are their fixes you will not be dissapointed with the car when you start work on it because you will soon see the quality in these cars.1 point

Hi, if I end up buying it, it's the first thing I'm going to do, I don't want to damage the engine. Thanks1 point

Stock tyres are normally poor (cheap, or only focused on one feature (e.g. emissions)) compared to the best on the market. I'd switch to the best run flats or move away from them if you are happy to lose the puncture protection. Moving to smaller wheels is obviously a more expensive option - you would get better comfort, better economy, rims less prone to pothole damage and less noise but you give up the look of the larger wheels (if that is of interest to you). If you go with Lexus original wheels then you wouldn't, IMO, need to inform your insurance company as they would be deemed factory installed equivalent - otherwise you would need to inform them and possibly pay an admin fee to get the change noted on your policy. Michelin CC2 aren't the quietest of tyre, but they are a good all round tyre for the UK. This is probably the best resource to research tyres: https://www.youtube.com/@tyrereviews/videos1 point

I've started to experience something similar with my Podpoint charger. One of the possible causes for this is a drop in the supply voltage where, for whatever reason, the supply drops below the level required for the charger to work. Podpoint swapped the charger just in case it was the issue but their remote monitoring did record supply issues. The National Grid have fitted a recording device on my supply to see if it's dipping on a regular basis. Apparently it's quite a common problem. What's interesting about this is that if the monitoring reveals ongoing supply dips then the reason for this isn't always easy to find. I may just have to live with it. If I had a fully electric car I'd be in a position where I may not be able to reliably charge my car at home because of an issue that no one, Podpoint or the National Grid, made me aware of when I had the survey and the charger fitted.1 point

Thank you for all the thoughts and feedback. I found what looked like a nice Al-Ko on eBay. Sent the seller a simple but pertinent question. No reply = no sale. Now I'm thinking a new Honda Izy. Still a Honda engine and very good reviews, with a mulching blade as well. That's probably what I'll go with ...1 point

I disagree with that. I've had LS's with air suspension and LS's without, and I believe the very best and smoothest ride was the LS400 without air. Even if the air system did hold air, on a car of that age it'll be on borrowed time. The fuse for the suspension on the LS430 is in the engine bay on the passenger side (right hand drive) along with various other fuses and is marked inside the cover, perhaps the 400 is the same? The compressor that pumps the suspension is under the wheel arch cover on the opposite side.1 point

Well, you’ve bought a trickle charger and you’ve connected it to a battery that you say you flattened. The charger will have circuits to control the charge rate as overcharging can potentially damage the plates. So minor fluctuations may well occur - and different chargers may respond in different ways and have different systems for indicating charge rate and battery voltage. However, I would not say that five hours from dead flat is usually sufficient for a trickle charger to fully charge a dead flat battery. I use my trickle charger over night and that’s simply to maintain the battery condition - not to restore from dead flat! I would certainly expect the charge rate to stabilise at a low rate after an overnight charge, so I would be inclined to give it a few more hours - which you probably have already done! If you’ve left it connected, it’s probably fine by now! 😊1 point

They must be being flown over - you don't get container shipments from Japan to the UK in 3 weeks, especially as most shipments aren't going through Suez. I imagine there is a slight delay in sourcing the part and/or waiting for a plane full of orders before it sets off, plus the delays at the UK end. Given they have supplied a loan vehicle, of similar/higher spec I don't see it as a big issue.1 point

And at this age and mileage the cambelt and waterpump should have been changed too ............. it is an interference engine ! Malc1 point

Fran hi. Steve is a great font of knowledge for you 👍 You are aware Fran that Lexus is a subsidiary of Toyota ? And I note Gijon seems to have a Toyota Main Dealer maybe which might have a local professional perspective for you on this sad car ? They may even have done servicing on it and know something if it’s history and someone there remember, as it’s such a rare car 🤔 Good luck Malc1 point

If your lawn is of "regular"shape, consider a robotic mower.I'got 3/4 acre, but irregular shape with lots of obstructions so went for a sit on mower this time.It saves a 4 mile walk and job done in just over half the time.1 point

When I had similar marks I used a slightly damp cloth like it says in the manual. It worked fine and I'm now educated to not even breathe close to it let alone put something on it.1 point

Every Lexus and Toyota I've bought new, the dealership provided the registration before collection.1 point

Some insurance companies allow you register the vehicle against the VIN and you then update them with the registration number once allocated (Direct Line certainly used to). I thought the whole we must see your insurance certificate before we tax it wasn't a thing anymore - they certainly don't need it do their registration and first year tax 😞1 point

@Dave - you don't say who your local Lexus dealer is. When I bought my NX350H last year from the local Lexus dealer Inchcape (soon to be Group 1), they offered me drive home insurance as well as registering the vehicle before collection. Can you not challenge them to provide this sort of basic courtesy for a new purchase?1 point

Its may sound silly, but it works for me. Breathe on the windscreen so it mists up slightly the wipe away with a microfibre dusting glove. Apart from a clear screen you can get into the corners having your hand flat and you can get your fingers int here. 😏1 point

As Andy above, I find a simple microfibre cloth and glass cleaner (I use Meguiar's) give streak-free finish. With regards to the polish, do you mean polish (as in an abrasive paint correction paste) or a wax (final coating gloss and protectant)? Either way some diluted APC and a soft bristle brush should work, remove it quickly though. Be careful too strong a solution could bleach the trim. There are proprietary products specifically to do this. A quick Google should bring results. Detailers use panel prep wipes. I'd suggest once you have it removed, switching to products that don't leave residues on plastic trim. Meguiar's some good stuff1 point

Looks good. Had some friends who have done something similar and in first 15 months got a house that could be used, but taken 3 years to completely finish, and not yet started on the garden additions. I admire anyone who does this, but spent first 3 years in my current house just living on a building site (as it is 250 years old but not looked after for 100 years - was a heck of a state), and managed (well my wife did) to bring up two kids run a business from home for a while. Only got the final major works completed 10 years ago, and now it's time to start working on redecorating what was done 28 years ago. By the way a house like yours needs a stonking sounds system to go with that projector / TV. Looking forward to the final photos1 point

Isn't it hideous . I don't know about "executive transport"--it looks more like a builders van that has picked up some tinfoil debris on the motorway. All it needs is about 4 weeks worth of copies of The Sun and other assorted rubbish on the dashboard. Should have been put down at birth. How can a company produce that and at the same time the LC?1 point
