I agree that the App could and should be a lot better but I wouldn't describe it as crap. Until I got this car, I had never had an App with a car and never felt the need for one. The car drives fantastically and the App neither adds nor detracts from that experience. I use the App for my trip history, EV range and vehicle location and those functions all work fine. I guess it depends on what you're use to and what you expect.4 points

As I mentioned some posts ago, when I approached the then appropriate Ministry to do that, I gathered that it appeared to be a process which they were not equipped to conduct and which would incur the recruitment of another squad of civil servants and ultimately cost more than the potential savings. It was suggested that if I didn’t want the money I could give it away to a charity of my choice. As that was what we were already doing, I ended our dialogue. So it did puzzle me that Reeves’ attempt to deflect criticism was to propose the creation of a 256-question Means Test which no doubt would also incur similarly startling administrative costs and negate any possible savings!2 points

From today's BBC interview of Lisa Nandy , Ms Nandy said: “Well, actually, there are mixed views out in the public about the winter fuel allowance. I think most people will accept that the very wealthiest shouldn’t be in receipt of something that costs the country over billion pounds a year. I think most people would accept that the very wealthiest pensioners shouldn’t be in receipt of a free allowance.” Charlie cut in and said: “Sorry you were pointing the finger at very wealthy pensioners.” Ms Nandy replied: I’m not pointing the finger at anyone.” Stayt said: “That is the phrase you used.” Presumably she means the House of Lords? Or retired Union bosses?2 points

I wouldn't have bought the 600 except for the fact that some clever driver wrote off my 430. But financially the 400 was best: only major jobs were timing belt/wp and starter. It's worth repeating that the 600 has two major problems built in: the hybrid battery and the air suspension. Both will fail, it's just a matter of when not if and they are both expensive to fix.2 points

Is anyone having problems sending messages in Apple Carplay? Newer versions of Apples IOS seem to have changed the way Siri works and it doesn't seem to interact well with the LBX. Instead of saying back the message you have said it has a fit and sometimes says "I cannot show you that while you are in the car" which is a bit counterproductive.1 point

Hello, I am thinking of parting with my great car, 2010 Lexus LS600hl, 5 seater with RSR, silver with black leather. It has done 227k miles. It has service history, 2 keys and I think all the options for a 5 seater. One of the previous owners was Theo Phaphitis from Dragons den. No issue with regular or hybrid battery, Lexus hybrid battery health check was done. Everything bar the front sidelight and drivers door mirror (works but does not go in 100%). Mechanically spot on but there is some wear on the front suspension bushes, nothing too drastic though. Am based in the UK. Will send pics, but just trying to get a rough idea of price range for now. Thanks.1 point

UX 300h F Sport Design with Bridgestone Alenza RFTs, tire pressure lowered based on advise from this forum. Also was told that F Sport Design has a normal suspension, Sport is just a name. Let me explain what I am trying to achieve. I think in general ride quality can be described by these two components: 1. High frequency, low amplitude vibration when driving on a flat surface that does not have potholes or bumps. In a car with a stiff suspension or low profile tires you get that a lot. 2. Jumping over bumps. This is when you drive over a pothole or a bump. My observation: First component - no issues, the ride is smooth, no vibration. Second component - the UX jumps too hard, especially when both rear wheels go over the bump at the same time. I noticed that many cars do the same, for example, MB GLA, B-class. On a flat surface the ride is smooth, feels heavy and expensive but once you hit a bump or a pothole it just jumps too hard. Hoping that the run flats are the reason.1 point

I had an E Class in 2017. I would say the Mercedes app and in car navigation, and links between the two were better in the Mercedes that they are in my MY23 ES. And 6 years is a long time in electronics development, so I would imagine the Mercedes apps of today are streets ahead of the Lexus offering.1 point

It took me about a year to gather the parts and for comparison I used this auction number to compare with my car, USA VIN NUMBER AUCTION VVIN NUMBER JTHHP5BC7H5006443 and the best Lexus conversion brake info I found + the bracket for the rear caliper was 350phi. com except I did go for Powerstop Z23 brake pads (hybrid pads wider temp and no dust). There is one exemption and that is both rotor hub dia are 62mm BUT wheel hub dia is 60,1mm on my 300H. Bought the wheels from fitmentindustries (USA). You need to measure your wheel hub dia before ordering the wheels. There went alot of time finding the correct wheels cos US sides usually do not have EU models in there programs as was in my case. I went for Konig Ampliform Wheels, front wheels no problem but my calculations for the rear was different from theres cos I wanted no scrub/rub formula but they told me my rear wheels would not fit my calipers... I do not know how they got that simply cos the rotor slot in the caliper is tight ... but my choise was correct and the rear tire extends only about 5mm from the original but front extended about 29mm. See the Pic of the wheels the part numbers I got. The rear tires could be wider but I could not get them in my tire line (wanted 265-275mm) but the front tires have a slight touch under turns and touch the inner (what do you call it.. inner fender well) both in front and rear of the wheel, the material is soft but I could not bend it to stay in the right form... (paper.. fiber something) when it rubs through after about 7k km.. I will take them out and form them permanently, 4x Michelin 19" R 255/35PA4 P.S. these winter tires have only 8mm depth instead of the std 10mm for snow tires. I bought the Brembo rotors from a Brembo dealer in my country and the calipers from US 250-350$ a piece + taxes. Work per wheel about 4 hours (cutting the dust cover..) Changes from the original setup.. used less than 2k km and temp +1c - +12c, understeer almost gone (expected, wider front tires) the brake feeling is super + even surface rust after a rain no problem. The G picture (under speed limits) max 0.8g is probably close to the max I can get out of these tires but as long the road is close to dry, temp does not matter ether in turns or under braking yes I could get these numbers under the old setup (same tire type) but not constantly. On the OEM setup under hard braking I did want a stiffer lower arm bushing but not on the new setup.. it looks like fr/rear brake bias is just a little more to the rear... just tiny but I can not feel it except better steering control under hard braking. What next.. hmm the car is 12mm higher now (more practical..). I want to stiffen the chassy with TRD parts but other than that (yes I want a HUD did try one, not happy with it) I think the car is perfect for my needs as it is now. In my climate using 2 sets of tires is just not practical. The rest will be cosmetics.. P.S. why manufacturers use only dualside calipers on high end cars is cos of practicality, cost and no need for special wheels for the big calipers + few other minor benefits of narrow calipers.1 point

Some websites say if you have that code they can fix it, so they must know what causes it. Im assuming its a fractured joint on a component or something because of all the heat cycling the thing gets in the boot of the car. This place is one that seems to already know what to do with them while others will "take a look" which isnt easy with an intermittant problem. https://electronicrepairs.com.au/product/lexus-rcf-mark-levinson-amplifier-repair-3180/1 point

I'm running the LS on a very limited budget as is so it looks like I will be sticking with the 430 then if the 600 needs a bigger one. For once the head can rule the heart 🙂 I can start seeing about getting the other few jobs done again now - my only problem there is I can't seem to find anyone here in Northern Ireland that will do the work. Local auto spark doesn't want to know re the steering wheel motors and the same for the upholstery lot as they don't like the cooled seats (can't get the foam or something) I'm physically not able enough to do any of it either so my options are limited. neither job is a "while you wait" from what I can gather so an overnight in an air b&b will be my only option IF I can find someone...... I had also considered going back to a Jaguar XJ but again I had an X308 and loved it but after an old accident injury returned I found that it was too low to the ground, the next generation alloy bodied X350/356/358 models are bigger and better but a mate has a 350 that has just set him back the best part of 2k to get through an MOT (in fairness it was quite ropey) so again not sure. I'm in a unique position that I have owned a large number of barges so can compare like for like and it says it all really when I still have the 430 🙂1 point

Facelifts are very rare in the UK, there's only one other for sale at the moment, a 2013 car for £29k - which is too much imo (and it has a white interior, so not for you) I've gone the import route as facelifts are far more common in Japan and generally a bit cheaper for a much cleaner car; there are obvious downsides to imports though, so it really depends on you as to whether you think it's worth looking into. For me, personally, it definitely is.1 point

I bought a couple of these from Amazon ( this time of year batteries start to fail don't they? ) They were £3.50 for two duracell - genuine ones. I saw them in Tesco for £5 and Asda for a similar amount. Then I saw Kodak batteries CR2032 in poundsaver for £2 for a pair. Kodak is a good name but I wonder how good are their batteries? At about £1 each they seem good value for money. BTW Amazon sell them too but in larger packs. It sounds trivial when Costa and the like are flogging a cup of coffee in one of their dingy caffs for £3.50+ Now that's a ripoff if ever I saw one.1 point

Yes and no! I agree that the 430 is probably the best of the Ls series overall and especially in terms of reliability. On the other hand the 600 combination of power and awd result in unmatched handling. Of course if you haven't fully experienced it you won't miss it. Looking at the maintenance costs the 430 is the winner without question. Not least of all the 600 is a hybrid. My battery was under the warranty: it had its final check, it passed with flying colours and within 10 days the warranty expired and so did the battery! Cost: over 2K from Lexus with a 1 month warranty! So it's not an easy choice. But, given that you already have a 430 in good shape I'd probably stick with it. They are both a pleasure to drive so, whatever your choice, enjoy it!1 point

It's not uncommon for service intervals to get out of sync with mileage if less than 10k miles are done per annum and so items on the service schedule will be done based on the age or at the closest mileage. If you have the car serviced by Lexus they will do what is needed when so you will have no cause for concern regards the warranty so long as you take it in within the 10k miles / 12 months whichever comes first each time.1 point
-
The service activated warranty lasts for 10k miles or 12 months whichever comes first following the service. So if it was done at 44k miles the car is covered until 54k miles unless 12 months come up first before the mileage reaches 54k. The car should also have a Used Car warranty on it as well.1 point

There is a near neighbour to me who has a mobility car which is replaced every so many years and from the time it is delivered to the time it is replaced I have never seen it move from under the car port. I have occasionally seen one of the relatives start it up and leave it running for a while probably to keep the battery charged up but that’s as far as it goes. That may explain in this case why Mobility make such huge profits when they sell 3 year old used mobility cars with delivery mileage only! There is little official information regarding Mobility UK past 2020 but I assume the main, maybe sole, shareholders are still the major UK banks.. How it can be described as a “Non Profit Organisation” when run by banks is a contradiction in term.1 point

As above, if you don't have the ability to check and confirm yourself, how are you going to be certain it is back within spec after adjusting(which can be a huge can of worms in itself with seized bolts etc.). If it is out then the next question is why, could be down to worn bushes or a number of other causes. Best to take it to somewhere that can check and advise what the root cause is, and hopefully have enough experience to deal with any difficult bolts along the way too.1 point

Keep your money in your wallet because let's face it, none of them are much good are they? You don't want LFA on the plate because the car isn't an LFA and that would just look silly and needy, and the first one just makes no sense whatsoever - too much of a stretch to make it say Lexus.1 point

Two more features that could be worthwhile retro fitting are the Premier’s heated steering wheel and the manual sunshades in the rear windows. The premier has a wood steering wheel with heated leather areas on each side. This is handy as the wood can get pretty cold in winter! The switch is by the right knee. Wheel on Amayama seems to be about £1080. I have never used the powered rear sunshade, standard in the f-sport and the premier, however my passengers often use the sunshades for the rear side windows. These shades appear to be relatively cheap, however you would need to ensure that they fit in the door.1 point

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself as the very happy new owner of a 2006 GS450h SE-L. I work at a Lexus dealership and when I heard about this car coming in as a well-priced part exchange I snapped it up as quick as I could. 159k miles but it's got full Lexus service history up to this year, the hybrid battery was replaced under warranty in 2019 and other than a few very minor scratches and marks it's basically mint. One of those rare finds where the previous owner has had it for donkeys years, loved it to bits and continued to maintain it regardless of cost even though it's almost 20 years old now! Really happy with it, and it goes with my manual swapped GS430 drift car quite nicely 😉 I've already ordered the GROM Apple CarPlay box of tricks which will be going in soon and I've got a few questions about upgrading certain things (rear camera for example) as well as looking at some different wheels but I'll leave those to separate threads. Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself really! Cheers Ben1 point

The GROM CarPlay unit is in and working! Still need to install the microphone and tidy up the glovebox install a bit but I’m really happy with the result. Responsive, fairly stable (I’ve only been using it wirelessly, I’m assuming it’ll be even better if wired in), standard screen resolution is good enough - all in all it genuinely seems to work as good if not better than a lot of OEM systems. All in all really happy, well worth it IMO. Next thing to try and improve is the quality of the reverse camera. After a couple of weeks in the car now I’m absolutely loving it!1 point

Yes the press release clearly states the UX is affected, that isn't in question, but it also clearly states that plates are only available for the RX. My point is that you would be wasting your time by going to a Lexus dealer and asking for plates to be fitted if you own a UX. Once the solution being developed by Toyota UK is ready then all affected Toyota and Lexus owners need to contact their dealer to get the solution applied to their vehicle. Currently there is no point asking your dealer as they aren't able to assist - your time would be better spend contacting Toyota UK / Lexus GB or the press to apply pressure in getting a resolution to this issue.1 point
-
You can disable the keyless entry system yourself via the car's menu system - this will stop the possibility of a relay attack but won't stop a CAN bus attack. Unfortunately the RX is the only model where plates are available from Lexus dealers.1 point

Note - before March 2018 RC300h is £20/year road tax (maybe £30 now), after that £180+. GS250 will always be £415 (and will increase every year). So in that aspect they are quite different. GS300h will be same as RC300h. Also there are elusive RC200t, which are smoother and quieter than 300h, but I certainly do not recommend them, you can find very long post written by me about my experience. From the two RC300h, makes more sense than RC200t. But I am just saying RC200t also exist. Is RC300h smooth and quiet? Depends - if you really careful it could be very smooth and very quiet, especially if you are just cruising around, then RC300h is very smooth. But if you go above say 50% of accelerator (probably even less... 30%), it is neither smooth, nor quiet in comparison... to say LS400, or GS250, any V6/V8. After all it is 4 cylinder engine and when it revs-up it sounds like crap, that is just how 4 cylinder engines are. And it is certainly not helped by the CVT which by default locks it into certain rev range and just amplifies that noise. The suspension I am sure you will find quite hard compared to LS/GS and overall finish is step down from GS, so 2 steps down from LS... It is basically a copy paste interior from Lexus IS, just with some feature omitted (I found it strange considering RC is more expensive car than IS, yet IS comes better equipped standard). So I would say - "smooth and quiet" kind of depends to what you are comparing it with. Compared to Ford Fiesta - yeah sure, it is excellent, even compared to BMW 4-Series (especially diesel) it is smoother and more quiet... but compared to LS or GS, no - it is rather low sports car, with low profile tyres and with exception of "luxury" trim (which is the most basic poverty line trim) it comes with dynamic dampers that have settings hard, harder and hardest (holds car exceptionally flat in corners, but it isn't most comfortable suspension). It is sports car, for sports car it is perhaps good, but it is not as comfortable as GS or LS... or for comparison sake Mercedes E-Class Coupe. It is coupe version of IS rather than GS (well it is more complicated than that, but that is how it feels comfort wise). In this comparison GS250 would definitely be more like LS, generally 4th generation GS is excellent car, probably most under rated Lexus ever (especially 450h). Excellent built quality, smooth and quiet (at least as far as suspension is concerned - it absorbs bumps very well). GS300h - same story with the engine as RC300h, GS250 - certainly smoother, more responsive and nicer to drive, but it is frankly obsolete engine (it was great engine in 2005, but not so great by the 2015), underpowered for the car, much worse on road tax and fuel, but it is smooth and sounds nice. GS450h is certainly the model you want to go with if you going for GS, that is flagship of the range, well equipped, smooth, quiet etc. and road tax is reasonable £200. Not £20, but at least you get car which accelerates effortlessly as car of it's class should. As always - your best bet is to go and test drive one, or both.1 point

I really enjoy mine, quiet yes but that can be effected by tyre choice, I run Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric on the rear (puncture at 6 in the morning leaving me with not a lot of choice and a 25 mile motorway journey in front of me) mind you they are very good tyres, still have Bridgestones on the front. Check what spec you go for either F-sport or Tukomi are the choice to make but try and get on with the Mark Levison audio if audio is important, however I find the standard audio in mine fine. The RC300h will never beat a hot hatch or its like off the line but pop it in Sport+ when your moving and it has got a little spirit under the bonnet, it's best suited to winding A roads running in Sport or Sport+ mode just watch the right foot as it wants to push. Oh and because of the spirit when in S or S+ the fuel consumption does increase. I tend to use S+ for over taking, S for a fun drive and normal/comfort for every day driving, tried Eco and that was terrible, throttle response was slow and fuel economy was worse than normal mode. If pushed on a bend it will understeer. As far as I'm aware they are reliable cars, except for the Lexus fuel tank filler hose recall (check it's been done) I've not had any issues. The Sonic red (code 3T5) is not any easy colour to spray so if you find one with minor paint damage it may be more expensive than you think to respray, not sure about the other colours. Oh if you get one looking like mine you do get comments (good), I've had cyclists shout out, some others stare trying to work out what the car is then come up to me and one guy asked if he could have s*x with it!!!! Not sure if the last one is good though.1 point

I should add that even though its not a Lexus, we have had a CHR hybrid and now a Mazda2 Hybrid for the past 4 years. I agree, to get the best out of it, you need a different style to driving, it makes you plan ahead, view the road, the traffic and accelerate/decelrate to optimise the car. This is one of the main reasons Im looking to Lexus. Luxurious, effortless and reliable, what more do you want?1 point

Japanese people generally take huge pride in anything they do. I remember marvelling at condition of a refuse collection vehicle that stopped next to us as we walked in Kyoto. It was spotless, polished and burnished. Even the bin lifting mechanism was very clean. The worker's overalls were clean and pressed. The Japanese have a very special attitude to life, people and their environment. Self respect and the respect of others, something we, in the west, could learn a lot from.1 point

Bit more detailing work today on the taxi...... today the rear lights. Given that the rest of the car now looks so much better and has about 90% of the scratches removed I stated looking at the lights and could see they were dull and had a lot of swirls on them. They were stripped off the car as it was a lot easier to deal with them on the bench This one had a couple of deep scratches on it that always caught my eye With some scholl s30 black a finishing pad and a polishing pad The scratch has been removed And a 50/50, the polished one on the left It’s one of these small differences that no one else may notice, but I know they are done now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

It’s the simple jobs that give the biggest satisfaction sometimes. Over the last few months the bonnet catch has been a bit iffy, it won’t close without really slamming the bonnet on it and when opening it doesn’t “pop” when the handle is pulled. I put it down in part to the 145,000 miles the Lexus has now covered. Tonight I decided to remove and inspect it, not a difficult job. First remove the black plastic trim that sits along the front panel, there are about 10 self expanding clips that need popping out. Remove the plastic panel and this revealed the bonnet catch mechanism. The catch is held on by 3x10 mm bolts and the plastic dirt shield is held in place with 2 self expanding clips. In adoption there is also the bonnet warning switch wiring loon that is held on the dirt shield as well. With the catch off the car it was clear to see why it was so gummed up....white grease and general road crud had caused the pivots to almost seize. After about half an hour in the parts washer and a good going over with a stiff brush most of the debris was cleared off the latch, the micro switch that signals the warning light was taken off and cleaned up, all the pivots were oiled and freed up and the return springs were cleaned, oiled and reseated. Reassembled back on the car, all cleaned and tested, it all works like it did when I first bought the car now, that’s a win [emoji106] Last weekend I replaced the EGR cooler and egr, I’ll do a write up that shortly when I can finally look at the pictures without A) breaking out in a sweat B) having nightmares about the job It was a total pain in the backside, but a job that needed doing. I’ve been a bit busier than I had though lately, it was only when I looked over my pics on my phone I could remember what I had done.... After 18 months of being a taxi the seats and carpets were looking a bit grubby, so out they came for a fabric wash, leather clean and leather feed. Getting the seats out is very simple, 4x13mm bolts hold the seat frames to the floor, one 17mm bolt holds the seatbelts to the seat and then 3 connectors under the seat (mine doesn’t have electric adjustments or heated pads) Once the seat has been detached from everything remove the headrest, tilt the seat forward and it can then be removed from the car easily. I cleaned mine on the bench as i wanted to clean all the carpets as well. Grubby, the leather looking a bit aged and generally unloved. After cleaning the fabric with a vax cleaner, the leather with hot water and saddle soap and then treating the leather with gliptone leather conditioner...... The difference isn’t easy to see on photos, I did a 50/50 on the leather, cleaned and treated on the left Once the fronts were done I did the rears in-situ and the carpet, the waste water was disgusting, a very dark brown. It took about 3 hours to do the lot, it look a lot newer and smells so much nicer now as well, it’s strange how you get used to it being slightly grubby, but when it’s cleaned you instantly feel and see the difference. Just passed 140,000 miles and generally still going strong, however I have noticed that the rear calipers were sticking. This Is common with Toyota and it seems Lexus suffer the same fate, the slider pins seize and the outer pad is then constantly in contact with the disc. £70 later a set of secondhand calipers were winging their way to me, the donor vehicle...... So they arrived, a low mileage set but still I ordered a new set of slider pins, boots and bolts and set about stripping them down After a quick wire wheel session All fitted back together and with a coat of silver paint So fitted them today, decided at the same time to do a brake fluid change as well, pretty simple really. Using a syringe I drained the brake fluid reservoir fully and then topped it back up with the new fluid, then it was a case of doing one side at a time and pulling enough fluid through to ensure you have flushed the system of old fluid, pretty easy as you can see a colour difference. Because the Lexus uses a brake booster pump bleeding is a little different from normal, it’s still a two person job but there’s no pumping of the brake required. Press the start button twice so the ignition is on but ready is not showing on the dash. Have the assistant push the break pedal, this will fire up the brake pump. With their foot on the break undo the bleed nipple (8mm) and each all the bubbles come out of the drain tube. Once there are no more bubbles then that side is bled. Repeat on the other side and then do the same for the front calipers So now there’s a nice shiny set of calipers on the rear From there it was it’s 140,000 mile service and also I decided to change the anti-freeze as it’s never been done and I wondered if over time and mileage it would lose its efficiency. No pics for this sadly but it was dead easy, drop the under tray (10mm bolts) on the radiator is a bright yellow tap, turn that and drain the fluid (making sure you have a bucket underneath) Once it’s all drained refill the system, once there was enough guild in the system I fired the car up and put it into maintenance mode so the engine would warm up and I could reduce any chance of air locks. 1. With foot off the brake pedal, tap the power switch twice to put it into Ignition On mode. (If you see a green READY light come on, you've actually done it with your foot depressing the brake pedal) 2. Leave the shift lever in the P position, and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. 3. Move the shift lever to the N position (need to press the shift lock button to allow the lever to shift out of P), and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. 4. Move the shift lever back to the P position, and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. At this point the display will say something like " Maintenance Mode" 5. Then depress the brake pedal and press the power button to start the engine. It will also tell you TRC is off Do all of this inside 60 seconds. DO NOT ATTEMP TO DRIVE THE CAR IN THIS MODE. In order to get out of maintenance mode just switch the engine off and restart and it will be back to normal Once done it was out for a test run and then as it was a nice day I decide to clean the engine bay and give the car a wash, this summer it will need a machine polish as there are some pretty heavy marks on the car now sadly I have recently pulled the seats out and given them a good clean as well as the interior carpet, I’ll post up some pics on that later Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
