  1. 😄Haha....thanks Lee. Never saw it, and can't remember the last time I replaced one of these batteries in a key fob. It now works fine. Thank you all who replied. Every day is a school day🤔😉

  2. Agree that the panoramic roof is much better than the sunroof. Had a panoramic roof on my NX300h and really missed it when I changed to a NX450h as only the sunroof was available at the time. Benefit was that it at least opened! Now have the RX450h+ with the panoramic roof and it now opens which gives the best of both worlds! Ammonite Sand interior with a panoramic roof makes an amazingly bright interior. (I had the Hazel trim on my NX450h which was the lightest available at the time but now enjoy Ammonite Sand with my RX) Personally I would go for the 450 over the 350 simply for the benefit of pure ev driving silence and the extra acceleration capability.

  3. Over here in Holland there has been talk of pay per km or roadpricing for at least 10 years. The idea is to provide every car a "black box"that registers the number of km and thats what you pay. Another way is automatically scanning the cars by licenceplate or transponder when it passes a scanning station. That of course will cover the entire country! Time and again it failed and stayed where it started, a discussion. Privacy regulation will not allow it and maybe even more important, the political party that will push it through will find itself out of government for decades. Political suicide. So we stay with the current roadtax connected to the licenceplate and owner has to pay. My Volvo XC60 T6 is costing me 100 euro per month. If it would have been a diesel it is euro 278. PER MONTH. And here it comes, if is is a BEV it is zero. No roadtax.

  4. I test drove both, bought a 450h+. Both cars have an ecvt gearbox, basically means any fast engine acceleration is loud and has a “drone”. Any EV acceleration has a quiet pleasant whine from the electric motors - and in the 450h+ you can literally drive around in EV mode accelerating until approx 81mph for around 40 miles in pure EV battery mode until the battery is depleted, whereas the 350h hybrid is more like 20-30 mph before engine needs to kick in, and it can only run for short periods on battery without the engine. The 450h+ is also noticeably faster, and thus more enjoyable to drive in my opinion. Neither had sunroof/pano roof so I’m afraid I can’t help there.

  5. With all the current (and historic) issues that Lexus owners are experiencing with the Lexus Link+ app not recording multiple journeys, let's hope that the Government commissions Lexus' IT department to capture the miles driven by every car. That way we'd probably be paying only half of what we should be. Far easier than "clocking". 😀

  6. Well at long last , a let down:( Failed the NCT yesterday on my 2016 F sport , rear discs require replacing. Flew it on everything else. To be honest the rear discs dont even look that bad . But seemingly insufficient contact on the inner side of the rears with the pad. Anyhow , I managed to get a good deal on a set of rear discs and pads online (150euro all in ) , I'll replace when I get a free day . 100kmiles on the original rear discs before a fail isn't bad in my eyes either. 7. The last three pages may have helped people have a moan but it won’t help a jot , every government official whatever party they belong to is there for an easy life and getting paid mega bucks for doing not much and claiming expenses in the process, would the current government have paid everyone to stay at home I am not sure and yes the country is in dept because of 2 lockdowns & idiot Putin, & if there is a 2 billion black hole why agree to pay all public sector workers up to 15% extra ( are MP’s ) public sector workers, I have had a moan as well. 8. Thanks Sandy for the above. Well done on getting the work completed under warranty. There are many of us who have had to pay up to £1000 out of our own pockets as various dealerships are stating it is not covered. Would you kindly please share the dealership you used and the email address you used when you contacted Lexus UK. We are trying to get clarification on what qualifies for a successful warranty claim, and potentially a refund for those who have paid out. On the FB group we working together to address this subject which frequently comes up. Thank you 🙂

  9. First of all, you have clearly not understood Indian "caste system", basically a type of slavery which still exist in India... and this is important. Infosis is not a significant, nor world class institution, it is business of slavery. Also they are not "akin Microsoft", they are IT consultancy/integrator, there is huge difference between making the product and just installing it on clients PC. In short - his wife parents money is dirty, very dirty and actually even bloody. There is no much difference from ruzzian oil or any other oligarch run business, or blood diamonds from Africa, it is money made by social class domination, slavery and coercion, her parents are "Indian oligarchs". If Roman Abramovich had daughter living in UK, she would be as "well deserving citizen" as Mrs Sunak. Also she was so called "non-dom", meaning she paid no tax on immense wealth. His parents contribution to the society are irrelevant, he himself was investment banker making most of his fortune disaster trading during 2008 financial crisis. Basically he is the type of banker that makes the "banker" name sound bad. Regardless of the background, please explain or justify how ANYONE can make £120 million a year? Nevermind a sitting Prime Minister... the level of copium to believe this is not corruption and not outright criminal is unbelievable in your comment. And you dare to attack Ms. Revees and her husband on "poultry" by comparison £550k a year (which by the way doesn't quite add-up, she is on ~£130k and he is closer to £170k, making it more like £300k), they are at best "middle-class" if we delude that such thing still exists in UK. This is outright hypocrisy to say "don't be jealous", yet attacking people who contributed way more and worked way harder their whole life and still makes much less then your idol! Now... compared to criminals that preceded Sunak, I can't really attack his record too much. He was clearly corrupt and allowed the party to enrich themselves from corruption, his own £120 million of wealth increase should be investigates as it is unclear how he could legally become so much richer in a single year, but that is more or less "business as usual" for politicians. However, same applies to the attacks you make on labour. I have said that before and I repeat it again - I am ideologically conservative, but also I am not "party political", I will not "tow the line" if that means corruption, criminal PM, criminal MPs, goverment preventing course of justice etc. As such, I am not big fan of any socialist government, Labour included, ideologically my believes are opposite of their (even if sometimes I may support policies that are left leaning, like government owned road maintenance), however I accept that short term pain and policies that I am directly against me are worth the cost of pushing criminals out of government. That said - I believe motoring will become worse under labour, labour as any socialists are anti-private transport and pro-public everything, meaning that car taxation is likely to rise... that was known from the day one... and that is the price worth paying not to have criminals in the government.

  10. You’re not the first Paul - and you’ll not be the last! I occasionally come across reviews of electrical items by people complaining that they were faulty on delivery - only for it to transpire that they hadn’t appreciated the significance of the little red pull tag sticking out of the battery compartment! 🫢

  12. Ive had several strange problems with this app functionality (android on 2 different phones). Latest one was it stopped updating early Wednesday everning, not logging trips etc etc It seems this was due to server issues somewhere in the Lexus infrastructure. As of this morning things seem to be mostly working again. So it will now send me notifications when I forget to lock it (something I do sometimes as my last car locked itself when you walked away from it - which I was very used to.....), and trips are now being logged again. However the status hasn't updated since yesterday evening and is incorrect, and refreshing it doesn't help. So it still says it's unlocked (when it isn'). I totally agree that the vehicle status is a fundamental part of owning one of these cars, and should work reliably. This last issue is the second time it appears some server issue or infrastructure in Lexus has been down for several days in the 4 weeks I've owned the car. Not really good enough Lexus !!!

  14. Trailing arm. Lexus would make no comment on the part apart from being on back order. My Lexus was full Lexus service history, with both the ten year warranty and the one year purchase warranty. Reading both, the rubbers are not covered although the road springs are. Lexus direct are selling the original part for £239. Five fastenings involved.Local garage would save you a lot.

  15. By now it would be huge bill, because roads were derelict for half a century... It is very hard to estimate total cost, but for UK as a country to stay on top of it's road infrastructure and to do minor, but important improvements, I would think something like £15 billion a year is realistic. But the money MUST be spend on the actual road, not on stupid tertiary priorities, or vanity projects. Honestly, it is painful to see when speed bumps are being installed... I do understand why they are being installed, but c'mon priorities first, perhaps we can have speedbumps once all the streets are free of put holes first?! Why even bother with speedbumps, leave the potholes in place to begin with! Good news... motorists already pays £40+ billion a year, so it is not lack of funds collected, the problem is that they are being redirected to the rest of the crumbling system, wasted in the inefficient system etc. So at least UK isn't poor country, because there are countries that are genuinely poor and they don't have the money in the first place... we have the money, we just wasting it. I know this sound communist, but I think national, publicly owned road maintenance agency should be created, I am not saying that we should nationalise all the private road maintenance companies, or that we should not use their services ever (some of them are experts in particular things that would not be viable to nationalise), but day in day out resurfacing and maintenance should be done by public company. The simplest possible way to justify it - let's say resurfacing a stretch of motorway costs £100 million, just materials and labour, if this is done by the state company, that is what tax payer pays... if it is done by private company that has shareholders, then it has to make profit, generally speaking 30% is minimum viable profit margin for most companies... so now this same stretch of the road costs £130 millions... that is before cost overruns and before some corrupt official signs of extra £100 million for works that perhaps were not even needed. Basically, publicly owned company would mean that same money goes further. Perhaps not suitable for very complex projects like bridges, or tunnels... but for simple resurfacing of existing road, it should be plentiful. That is what National Highways should do, currently they only "manage the roads", meaning they inspect for works needed and pay private company to do it. What I am saying they should own both equipment and have their own workforce... also all roads should be managed this way, not only the key motorways.

  17. I'm not too surprised. The server probaly has 2 sides, collecting raw data from the vehicle and sending processed data (or making it available) to the App. The trips are recorded if the server is up but not when it's down. The server could be down for a planned software update, because its been subject to dodgy activity (such as hacking), or because of a software glitch. Since the recent issues lasted about 2 and a half days, I'm guessing yhe latter. As the software engineers ran various fixes, the server would have been up and down. Not ideal and not what we want but after experiencing Microsoft's buggy software for over 30 years, the issues that have hit Lexus aren't a big surprise to me. Fortunately, they don't affect the way my car runs and, prior to this car, I never had, or needed, an app to use or enjoy my driving.

  18. Now that the Lexus Link+ app appears to be up and running again, I wish to seek views from other LBX owners. Since I got my Takumi back in April I have always had issues with the Vehicle Status. Initially it continued to show doors, windows etc., as unlocked/open. It then changed to show them as locked even when the vehicle is clearly unlocked. The dealer was unable to help and the App team likewise. Neither indicated that others have had similar issues. Throughout I have noted that the date/time on the Status Screen never matched with the detail on the Home Screen but is always an earlier time possibly associated with the start of the journey. Refreshing the app has no effect on the information shown. Has any other LBX owner experienced similar issues or has the app worked without a problem. Any advice would be appreciated. To me the vehicle status is a fundamental element which has never failed on my previous vehicles. Thank you in anticipation.

  20. Maybe P1.3 next. The actual feel of the throttle at speed is unquestionably better. Massive acceleration from 70 to 100. You feel like you are driving a fast car. Pay the price at the pump though. Driving thru the Jura I did use the manual gear shift option and felt I maxxed out my mpg. Got it back to 31.2 for the year. A lot of miles!

  22. On that we agree, inevitable with socialist government. Also taxation overall should increase in general, more social work will mean more taxes... I just hope they going to go after rich and not the poor like the previous government. Whenever that is personally good for me is questionable, because I am both rich and poor depending on how one looks at it. I just hope for fair taxation, which has never happened in this country so perhaps little bit unreasonably optimistic from me.

  24. Yes, always difficult to know whether a job has been done properly by a garage. I can only say I have had no problems with the rear brakes since they were changed by Lexus. I thought £355 was reasonable for new discs and pads (others may disagree) especially as the old ones had done 150k miles - they would likely have gone further other than the sticking caliper. If the new set do the same they will probably outlast the car. I had front discs and pads changed at 80k miles, again they still had some life left in the but as I was having wheel bearings changed decided to get them done. Currently on 150k miles and the replacement fronts are still in good shape.

  25. I did the brakes all around & I don't recall running into a problem because of clearance. The front brakes caliper carriers are easier to remove as you can turn the wheel towards you to get a Breaker bar in to remove the bolts, but with the rears you don't have that option. If your bolts are super tight you need to jack the rear up high enough with axle stands in place, get underneath to get clearance with a breaker bar for extra leverage & abit of muscle, 1/2 ratchet with a socket will stand up to a few hammer hits better than 3/8. or just invest in a power tool with extension bars I purchased a Milwaukee stubby impact driver a while back & it's got me out of trouble many times not cheap but makes life so much easier when removing wheel nuts and bolts around the cars I work on it pays itself of after a couple of uses (so I tell myself) I dont recommend using a spanner your more likely to strip the bolts.

  26. Oh yes, about 80 cents per litre and on top of that 21% vat. And in spite of roadtax you have to pay to park your car somewhere in town or village. And dont mention the co2 tax plus vat if you buy your car. And like mentioned in this tread all this tax creates a mountain of money to spend! Hooray! Free money. Throw it at a problem and if it does not work the politicians will already be in a different position so who cares? Its not only in the uk but also here. Spend billions on a high speed railtrack for 350kmh travel and then buy trains with a vmax of 220. And nobody responsible. Try doing that in a company! It makes me madmadmad

  27. Nor did I but the odd thing is we seem to have lost some periods during the outage and not others. Previous cars didn’t need an app but being able to see charge status and other points can be really useful. Such a great car in almost every respect but having worked on user interface projects the app is a long way from the quality of the brand or car. I agree with your guess on it being to fix a glitch. I don’t need the app for the driving but I just confess to being the sort that likes to look at the data if it’s there. Sad but true!

  28. Is there a difference in the file type (e.g. MP3; AAC; FLAC) between the songs that do appear and those that don't? Maybe the ones that don't appear are of a file type that the car cannot read. Failing that, personally I doubt that anyone at the dealership will have a clue (unless you're really lucky to ask someone who has more than the basic "car salesman" knowledge).

  29. Interesting tale. I carry a small compressor so I can re-inflate and hopefully avoid running flat and having to replace the tyre. Also, slightly concerned if you replaced one Bridgestone with a Michelin. Best practice says you should not mix tyre types on one axle. Did your tyre fitter say anything about this?

  33. Well seems the fault with the hybrid system might be due to my own stupidly as follows. 1. Driving the car with the boot hatch open. The hybrid system went berserk until I stopped and closed it otherwise the hybrid system would stop the car. I was obviously having a bad day. Car was ok after that. 2. I now have a disc lock. Put it on first time no problem. I must have move the steering wheel because next day when I went to take the DL off the hybrid system was not happy and insisted I move the steering wheel slightly. Interesting that. So apologies for being a stupid UX owner. Spoke with the service department of Lexus Stockport who apologised for not letting me know about the problem at time of pick. They said to monitor car over the next 500 miles to ensure all is ok, then they will remove the error codes and test the hybrid system. I will keep you posted.

  35. It won’t need reprogramming, I suspect the battery isn’t in correctly or it is flat (or possibly fake if it has come from eBay or Amazon). If you are sure it is working then press and hold unlock whist next to the car for 30+ seconds until the car responds.

Send em all outside to work on “ street gangs “ , road making and repairs and living on-site 24/7 …….. we could invest in a tent making business as the accommodation blocks all over the country …….. prisoners would learn new useful skills and save the Exchequer a fortune and stop all those do gooders whingeing about prison overcrowding ……. and they get 24/7 fresh air 👍 Car taxes could then be abolished at a stroke 🤔 Malc

  40. Or if anyone is concerned about the environment then find a way to tax for that. The fact remains that wear and tear on roads in general is a function of the traffic they bear. So, you drive more miles then in general you cause more and wear. Obvious, exclusion issue to the former statement is the weight of the vehicle, but even that could only be realistically differentiated between cars in general and HGV. Going further than that seems difficult to justify. What I am suggesting is logical if you think road tax and road maintenance costs should be connected. Unfortunately, for reasons best known to them politicians would rather ignore behavioural psychology in favour of theirown mindless ideology.

  41. Agreed. The current system seems unfair when the VED for a 2500kg SUV with horrific fuel economy, or a £400K supercar, is the same cost for a family car with an efficient 60MPG engine. That's a loophole that needs to be closed. And EVs should definitely be taxed, yes. They might not produce any tailpipe emissions, but they're a nuisance in other areas. Even if we ignore the resources required to build an EV, and the dubious practices involved in gaining said resources, they've been proven to throw huge amounts of rubber particles into the environment, which are just as harmful as exhaust gases. As well as burning through tyres, they're tearing the roads apart with their massive weight and huge amounts of torque. New cars should probably be taxed according to kerb weight as well as emissions going forward, both EVs and fuel-powered cars, since modern cars are so big and heavy now. The latest BMW M5 weighs in at 2.5 tonnes for crying out loud. Perhaps set a threshold somewhere around 1200kg, where there would be zero influence towards VED, but heavier cars would be punished on a sliding scale, just like CO2 emissions currently are. This would let smaller cars go relatively unpunished.

  43. VSC, not ASC. I don’t see why that would cause a battery drain, it would be powered off with the vehicle. Do not disable it, it is there is help you out in an extreme situation such as collision avoidance, not just wet weather grip, and is intrinsically linked to ABS. I suspect you have something else draining the battery. Possible the battery backup in the alarm system has failed and needs constant charging. I disagree. Using the vehicle daily, even for short runs is normally fine. It’s long periods of no use that is the issue. It would probably add up to an hour or more each week. My wife had a similar commute for a few years and her hybrids were fine.

  46. I already pay quite a lot of vehicle tax etc. and don't mind too much but it is very annoying when so little of the money is used for maintaining and improving the roads. Some of the main trunk roads in Scotland are an absolute disgrace.
    1 point
  47. First of all, what is ASC? Secondly, how often do you use the cars and for how long? The 12V batteries are only small and have low capacity so they need to be used regularly and for decent runs - a round trip of 10 minutes to the local paper shop isn't going to cut it. If you aren't using them often enough or for long enough, the best solution is to keep each car on a trickle charger when they're not actively being used. All cars have a current draw when they're 'asleep'. This is called the 'quiescent current' and it keeps alive things like the alarm, the clock, radio presets, seat memory and so on, and it should be somewhere in the region of about 50mA to 70mA. The capacity of the battery is measured by the Ah (AmpHour) rating. I don't know what yours are but we'll assume 50Ah, which means it can supply 50A for one hour; 25A for two hours; 12.5A for four hours and so on. If the quiescent current draw is 50mA (0.05A) then 50Ah divided by 0.05A = 1,000 hours (41.66 days or 5.95 weeks) to go from fully charged to fully discharged if the car is left standing (assuming a brand new and fully charged battery). This is a theoretical maximum and you'll never see it in reality. Also, the battery will not be able to start the car long before it becomes fully discharged, so the practical useful time you get will be considerably less than the 5.95 weeks you see above. If there's a fault somewhere and the battery drains due to that, this is called a 'parasitic current draw' and it obviously needs to be fixed. Below is the best way I've ever seen for determining parasitic draw and tracing the fault:

  48. Thanks Colin, useful to know. I have now realised that I let the dealer in to the opportunity to upsell me new discs and pads. Two months ago I booked the car in for this service and MOT and about 2 weeks ago they sent the book in online link which I filled in which included a box to tell them about anything else I wanted them to consider. I reviewed this link today and realised I had mentioned I had a bit of brake judder at speed when going down hill. I now believe they have used that to fail the MOT on brake efficiencies between the left and right front brakes. There were no lips on the discs edges, which should not make a difference to brake performance anyway even if a disc is worn. Because I mentioned brakes I now feel I shot myself in the foot by planting that seed of doubt in their minds. So £804 plus VAT was the result. I'm considering sending an e mail to the Lexus Stoke dealership Principle to let them know that after buying their £42K car 9 months ago and having done only 4,419 miles the car couldn't pass an MOT. They won't be bothered of course, all water under the bridge for them.

  50. I’ve been waiting to see what threads and responses there have been about CAN bus theft on the forums and digging on the web before making a second post. It’s a grim picture and I’m now regretting buying another Lexus, but am stuck with the consequences and keeping my fingers crossed. The car is great even if Toyota GB / Lexus isn’t. A not inconsiderable sum has been spent on the fitment of after market security and purchase of the hugely inconvenient Stop Lock Pro Elite, - (a Lexus recommendation akin to suggesting a sticking plaster to fix a severed leg) an unattractive and deeply un-aesthetic decal to stick on the passenger wheel arch trim warning the car is theft protected without going into detail so I might have some hope of finding the vehicle where I left it without the wing and arch lining ripped off. The Stop Lock Pro Elite as recommended on the Lexus PR page to beleaguered owners does not even fit a Lexus steering wheel properly! After only ten days use there is a permanent indent in the steering wheel where the body of the lock rests on the soft texture steering wheel covering. The blade presses down on the lights/indicator stalk potentially causing damage, so the stalk needs to be pressed down to the left indicator position every time the Stop Lock is used. Even in its bag, the Stop Lock slides around the rear seat footwell during driving banging into the base of the seats and the bottom of the rear door interiors. Is this what owners of ‘premium’ vehicles should expect to put up with? Of course whether insurance will be affordable next renewal, maybe shooting up 2-300% or possibly even un-insurable is another matter. After market security products should be an option for the owner wanting additional peace of mind that the vehicle is as secure as it can be made, NOT and I repeat NOT an absolute necessity if they want a reasonable chance of their vehicle remaining where they left it because the manufacturer’s design means they might as well leave the keys in the cup holder and doors unlocked for anybody to take. Worst of all Toyota GB / Lexus division are actively avoiding doing anything about a serious problem to owners entirely of the manufacturer’s making. There were 44,564 Lexus registrations between July 2016 and November 19 in the UK, (source: Statista Research). All highly vulnerable to CAN bus attack, because of the manufacturer’s design. Plus obviously more units registered post Nov 2019 subject to CAN bus theft, but I do not have these figures. Many of these will still be under warranty; many will have been resold as used approved through the Lexus dealer network. How many owners is that with a problem vehicle? 60-70,000 in the UK. Separate, isolate and exterminate seems to be the Toyota GB/Lexus plan of action to ignore owners. As distressing, financially damaging and inconvenient this has been and could well become for so many Lexus owners, individually and even as contributors to these forums we might as well go into our gardens and scream at the back wall until red in the face for all the notice Toyota GB/Lexus division management will take. And for those who have made comments along the line of ‘’ I’ll wait until the next gen before buying, that’s meant to be secure’’ I ask after you have spent £50-70,000 on a brand new vehicle, what happens if a serious problem in its design or electronics occurs down the line and the Toyota GB/Lexus response is, ‘’not our problem’’ are you going to just take it on the chin and say ‘’oh well it’s only money, no matter the manufacturer attitude has cost me £5-10-15-30,000, what’s the next shiny, but flawed offering you have so I can waste another ton of money?’’ Restitution for existing Lexus owners via legal routes such as class action is impractical and costly. The only way Lexus owners will get the aftercare and remedial action to significantly reduce CAN bus vulnerability, rising theft numbers and unaffordable insurance premiums on their vehicles is to make this issue so embarrassing and widely known about for Toyota GB/Lexus that they have no option, but to fix the issue and the manufacturer’s expense or suffer such reputational damage that it costs them new car sales and market share in the UK. As a cohort of owners it’s not easy to achieve, but it is possible, as individual owners shouting into a closed box restitution is impossible. I am willing to be a speck of dust around which a thunderstorm develops as it were. I’ll set up an email address and platform around which owners can coalesce, (with appropriate security so it is not a database of cars to steal) so we are not individuals, nothing more harmful and easily swatted than single midges, but an angry swarming cloud that cannot be ignored. Anyone who has been to Scotland in peak midge season will know what I mean. Out there will be owners with mass media and other useful contacts, PR skills, promotion skills, etc., etc. Many won’t be bothered and wait for someone else to fix the problem- human nature, but out of the few thousand on this website and the 70,000 odd UK Lexus owners there may be enough coming forward to make a difference. Get in touch. This site purports to be for the benefit of owners and not affiliated to any manufacturer, therefore I ask the site owners to put the CANbus theft scandal topic link on the front page in a prominent position and allow a link to contact details until Toyota GB/Lexus division takes this matter seriously and provides a manufacturer’s fix to all affected owners. I ask other site users to request this of the site owner. If they will not, then why not? Maybe this sites owner would like to work with me for the benefit of Lexus owners on this issue. I have no interest in creating a rival Lexus site or taking forum member details for commercial gain. Below are a few other web links to articles about CAN bus and Lexus theft of interest: The CANIS Automotive Labs CTO blog from Dr Ken Tindall has an interesting article on CAN bus theft https://kentindell.github.io/2023/04/03/can-injection/ I’ve extracted the sections of the article I find most telling, but I would recommend reading the whole thing. The dark web site selling the CAN injector theft unit states all the following Toyota Group/Lexus models are vulnerable ‘’ Lexus models including the ES, LC, LS, NX, RX and Toyota models including the GR Supra, Prius, Highlander, Land Cruiser - and RAV4.’’ ‘’Defeating the CAN Injector First, the good news. A CAN Injector can be defeated, and it can be defeated with a pure software fix, so existing cars can be updated and once again we can avoid fitting a mechanical steering wheel lock at the end of each journey.’’ ‘’ Ian (the person who’s RAV 4 was stolen) has tried to get in touch with Toyota to discuss the CAN Injection attack, and to offer help, but hasn’t had much success. Part of the problem is that any large corporation finds it difficult to respond to security issues.’’ Are we heading for this level of theft levels of our vehicles? – ‘’Nearly 20% of Lexus SUVs stolen in Aichi Prefecture.’’ https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14378293 Is this the way Lexus is going to be treating owners from now on? ‘’He wanted to keep his Lexus from being stolen. Now he faces a $20K bill and voided warranty.’’ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/lexus-anti-theft-bill-1.6976240 Maybe we need a few more articles like this in UK mass media? ‘’Here's Why Canadians Might Want To Skip Buying A Lexus RX. Lexus RX Series has the highest chance of being stolen in Canada with a theft percentage of 6.4 percent.’’ https://www.hotcars.com/heres-why-canadians-might-want-to-skip-buying-a-lexus-rx/ Is this what is in store for Lexus owners starting in 2024? ‘’ How Range Rovers became virtually uninsurable. Thefts of the car have risen so much that affordable insurance is just not possible.’’ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/land-rover/land-rovers-thefts-expensive-insurance/ No doubt the PR department of Toyota GB monitors this website for grass roots owner feedback and as an early alert to brand reputation issues and feeds this back through the corporate structure by a reporting mechanism. So this comment is directly to: Mr Scott Michael Thompson, Managing Director Toyota (GB) PLC, Director Lexus (GB) Ltd Mr Matthew Peter Harrison, Chairman Toyota (GB) PLC, Both at Great Burgh, Burgh Heath, Epsom, KT18 5XS, i.e. the Toyota / Lexus UK HQ. Dear Mr Thompson, Mr Harrison, I appreciate as a manufacturer/distributor Toyota GB/Lexus has no interest in the owners of Lexus vehicles after a brand new unit is registered other than trying to get them to spend another £50-70,000 on a brand product three years down the line and to try to entice customers from other manufacturers to purchase your brand instead of Porsche, Audi etc. Your model relies on maintaining and enhancing brand reputation. Right now Lexus brand reputation and owner experience among existing owners is severely damaged and getting worse. As owners of within warranty, very often purchased as used approved vehicles from authorised dealerships we expect Toyota (GB) / Lexus to correct a severe deficiency in the design of your vehicles that renders them highly insecure. Such PR page nonsense as use a visible deterrent such as Stop Lock is woefully inadequate and inappropriate to remedy a issue solely due to the manufacturer’s design. These vehicles are targeted because a: they are desirable, b: they are very easy to steal. Both factors are required; both are as a result of manufacturer design. We want a DVLA manufacturer’s recall during 2024 for all affected Lexus models, i.e. ES, LC, LS, NX, RX and possibly UX for main dealers to fit physical CAN bus security to the particularly vulnerable CAN bus connection located near the passenger front wheel arch as has been done for RX and any software updates that would prevent the CAN bus being a set of unauthorised keys to steal and drive away Lexus vehicles at will. This will be at no cost to owners, many of whom have to put up with the ugly, inconvenient Stop Lock and have spent considerable sums on after market security as a critical, absolute necessity to have, not just an aftermarket nice to have extra. At present Lexus as a brand is purchased by consumers for comfort, materials quality and because of reliability reputation. Something built up after the last twenty years. You have been successful in keeping the CAN bus theft issue of Lexus models largely out of the public sphere so far. For how much longer with 70,000 odd potentially very disgruntled owners in the UK that may find their vehicles at the top of the UK 2024 and 2025 most stolen lists and whose insurance as a result will increase by 200-300%, if insurable at all. I hope you take a lesson from Lancia, as you will be aware an otherwise excellent, driver orientated marque, driven out of the UK by its reputation for corrosion and if mentioned now only remembered for being a rust bucket. Is that to be Lexus’s fate when vehicle security is discussed? What do people know about the SC430 now? Most people know it’s the worst car ever made, even though in reality it was one of the best of its time. Audi’s tagline is Vorsprung durch Technik, BMW’s the ultimate driving machine. What is Lexus’s going to be for 2024 and beyond? - Was it stolen? The choice of thieves Uninsurable, Unsellable, stolen, never again! Or are you going to address the CAN bus issue affecting all 2014-2023 models and is it going to be? Lexus - joy for life I will also write personally to these two gentlemen and publish the response- or not as the case may be. I urge all Lexus owners with NX, RX, ES, UX, LC and LS models to take 30 minutes or an hour to write directly to these individuals to complain about Toyota GB / Lexus ignoring the growing CAN injection theft issue. I will also write to the named board members of all the authorised Lexus main dealerships in the UK. I will start including their details on this thread. Toyota GB/ Lexus may not care about owners after a brand new unit is registered, but the organisations that have invested substantially in the infrastructure to sell new, used approved and maintain Lexus vehicles might start getting upset with Toyota GB/Lexus if the brand reputation gets so poor due to this mis-handled CAN bus issue consumers start steering clear of Lexus products. Anyone for a JLR now? They can barely be given away, they certainly can’t be insured for a reasonable amount, if at all, even through JLR’s own insurance scheme!! Is that going to be the fate of Lexus? The more of a public fuss is made, the harder it gets for Toyota GB / Lexus to fail existing owners in its duty of care for its vehicles and the more its reputation degrades.
