Have already posted in the UX 250h branch of the forum, but didn't pick up this beauty until today. Got home with her a couple of hours ago. My first Lexus - having gone from a 15 year old BMW 325i Touring (a lovely car I was sad to see the back of). Very cool, in very in-yer-face Blue....am so looking forward to wafting around in her😉3 points

Steve, this will come back to haunt you😱. Removing the WFA has nothing to do with saving money. When the real savings are netted out it will be derisory. It is far more sinister, it is purely a test of the countries reaction and resolve to the idea of means testing any "benefit" of which the State Pension is one. This is already in play with child benefit and accepted. Imagine a similar scenario whereby your total pension income exceeds X, say 25k then your state pension element reduces by £1 for every Y amount over that. No doubt the Marxist mindset of some on here will see this as being totally consistent with removing WFA? Along with the madness of Intergenerational unfairness as a legitimate argument !!! It is also clear these measures are designed to appeal to the "yoof" (votes at 16) by robbing the old and giving it to the "yoof" thereby saying we are the good guys vote for us.3 points

Very amusing tread especially for someone not living in the UK. I don't know the regulations discussed but i take it they are there to protect and help the weakest members of society just like in every other decent society. Also it seems to be about a match who benefits most, the young or the elderly? Linas, if you reach my ( and most members here ) age you will see things different. First of all homeowners have been paying their mortgage all their life and IF the house is paid for it theirs. Nobody ever will be allowed to tell or suggest them what to do with it. Then there is the why don't they move. Well, whereto? If you grow older your social network gets stronger, kids, grandchildren, friends you have known for 50 years, the butcher, the pub, this is your place where you belong, your roots and want to live until the end. And again nobody can tell anybody to move, period. Then the young 30 something apparently paying 2500 a month for housing. Why oh why? Just move! to a rural part of the UK or go to wherever it is cheap be a digital nomad. For this age group it will be very easy to start a new life 1000 kms away unlike the elderly that are fully rooted. Don't rent in London and complain about the rent. Your wages will give you a much better lifestyle somewhere else just go for it, like you say, it is a choice! Apart from that the housing market in the UK seems to be identical as in the Netherlands. Population has grown immensely over the last 10 years that the market ( and NHS apparently) cannot keep up.3 points

There is plenty wrong across all generations and for the young getting on the housing ladder is certainly a challenge but not impossible if one sets ones expectations right and forgoes some of the things too many often see as something they are entitled to. I know, my own daughter got herself a small flat on the south coast on her own (so no help from me). She was earning the average salary and it's a ex navy property - nothing fancy, not in such a nice area, but she is now building equity and paying less for a mortgage than she was for rent. She bought with her head rather than waiting forever for a something that her heart might want. Back to OAPs, if you get to know people closely who actually live on the basic state pension in a small cold terraced house as their only asset and see how they live I think it would open your eyes. And yes I'm from the North of the country originally and had family members in just that position - proud people with a heart of gold who wouldn't ask for anything but were incredibly grateful for anything they received. As we get older our views and our values change. Of course you are entitled to express your views and some are certainly valid, but there is always another side.3 points

Now then girls put the handbags away ( especially the ones with bricks in them.) The following is much more concerning. This very worrying article in the Suffolk Gazette should put all our issues into perspective. Fears were growing for world peace today after it emerged Kim Jong-un has got a new cat which he allows to play in his office. The silky-furred black moggy has the freedom of the North Korean leader’s work desk, and likes nothing more than a game. But experts in the west have become alarmed after photos emerged of the kitty taking an interest in a large red button. Worried British security expert Lorraine Fisher, 34, said: “It’s only a matter of time before the temptation becomes too much and the cat prods the button with her paw. “Within seconds, her feline curiosity will have set off scores of ballistic nuclear missiles to South Korea, Japan and the United States of America. “It will be the biggest cat-made disaster known to humankind.” Officials close to Kim Jong-un, who recently boasted he has a nuclear button on his desk, have also seen the cat staring at the button with devilish yellow eyes. It is seen above in a photograph that first emerged on Twitter (we’re happy to give a photo credit when we know who ‘took’ the image). However, they know that shooing it away or raising concerns to their Dear Leader would mean 25 years in hard labour camp near the Chinese border. “He loves that cat,” said a North Korean diplomat in London. “He won’t hear a word said against it.” Animal behaviour expert Steve Walshe, from Suffolk, said: “If you put a cat next to an object that clearly should not be touched, it will touch it. “Normally this would something of little importance, like a cotton reel or a pencil. “But in this case it is the button that can start World War Three. “I would urge Mr Jong-un to keep a close eye on his new cat, or at least put his big red button in a drawer.2 points

Stephen …….. I don’t know of any avenue that a group of OAPs can go down that will have any influence whatsoever on our MPs and Govt …….. Unions have the power to bring businesses and economies to a standstill ……. OAPs have zero strength as individuals and there’s no massing of a get-together economically or otherwise that can have any impact on Govt thinking HOWEVER maybe AGE UK is that vehicle that could harness OAP power and bring credible influence …….. that the Govt daren’t ignore ……. once the Petition figures get to a “ momentum “ stage I would urge OAPs to review the Petition and if appropriate to them, become a part of it WINTER FUEL ALLOWANCE Petition with AGEUK Malc2 points

I am now on my second NX450h+ Premium Plus. I've not had any issues with the 12v battery and I don't put it in ready when loading or anything else. Having had a problem with the 12v battery when I had a Mitsubishi Outlander Phev I bought and still carry a power pack. So far in nearly 2.5 years I've not had to use it. Note to self - must give it a charge 😁 On tyres, I was grateful for the run flat when I had a puncture on my way to visit my Dad in palliative care in hospital - it meant I didn't have to get dirty changing the tyre, or hang about for the roadside assistance, as time was of the essence that day! The next day I took the car to Lexus Leeds and they fitted a new tyre from stock. The original wasn't repairable. This was Feb '24. In April I had a puncture (on the new car) and I got that repaired at my local tyre place. I've taken out the Lexus Tyre & Alloy insurance on both cars and it has been an easy claim process (but read & followed the instructions before getting the tyre changed/repaired!)2 points

I was told by the dealership that the glass alone was over £500 due to some fancy liquid coating or backing which makes all the gizmos work in the glass, blind spot monitoring, auto dimming, heating & so on. Spock, beam me back to 1970 when motoring was free from added gizmos and free from EU intervention and when you actually had to drive the cars 🙏2 points
-
My opinion... obviously. No - it will be horrible investment and you would save more money by burning it. It is amazing car, something to be driven and enjoyed to the biggest possible extent, but this car is not an investment, it will depreciate A LOT. Not sure what you paid for it, but you will lose at least 50% of the value in the first 5 years. LFA was not good investment either, many people lost money on them, only after 5 years they became somewhat of missed opportunity out of nowhere. Back in 2015 Lexus sold their last standard LFA (non-Nürburgring) in US, which they could not shift for many years and it was bought for $122k with 82 miles on the clock, that just goes to show that 10 years ago Lexus could not even sell them for MSRP. So people who bought them new for $375k on special lease deal (at first it was not possible to own the car outright) for 2 years lost a lot of money on them. But here is why LFA is what it is, and why LC500 will never be LFA - LFA was all carbon, hands built car sold in very limited numbers, it had one of the kind V10 engine not sold with any other car, production numbers were very low with only 500 made... and even then their prices are kind of irrational. LC500 has bog standard V8 that was around for ages, you can get car with the same engine for under £20k, production numbers on LC500 are quite high (~15,000), the rest of the car is standard production car, it is honestly amazing quality inside and out, but it is just a production line Lexus GT car, it is not a super car or close to one. If Lexus would have made LC-F maybe using the same engine, then perhaps that car could have been worth half of what LFA costs, but they didn't do that perhaps for the reason that it would reduce LFA values and would kind of hurt their owners. I am sorry to say, but the "ultimate edition" placard and it being convertible means literally nothing, it is a marketing trick. On LFA with only 500 examples, the 50 Nürburgring editions are more notable, but even then there is no data to suggest that Nürburgring edition is more valuable than standard LFA (if one can be called standard). But for car that sold 15,000 units... "editions" really means nothing, it is still LC500 and you can buy one for £40k... your one having placard on it saying it is "ultimate something something" doesn't make it different car, you will still compete with all other LC500s on the market when it goes on sale... maybe you get £5k more for it, but it doesn't make it different model that is appreciating. Again - enjoy the car, it is amazing car, but please do no have any hopes that it will make your richer than you already are, increase in value it will not.2 points

I still stand by my original post that there are a lot of pensioner that do not need the winter fuel payment, but agree that there are probably more that do. There should be a reasonable cut off level where you don't get help & that is what the government should put in place, not base it on pension credits etc. Set a limit of £25k say & no one with an income of more than that gets it. That is just a random figure plucked out of the air to make a point.1 point

My first Lexus was also a 2006 GS 450h SE-L, in Nordic Blue (the one that was either described as purple or silver, although I did get plenty of compliments about the colour) with the grey interior (a wonderful combination in my personal opinion). Now owning a Mk4 GS it constantly puts a smile on my face regarding the performance and economy of both these models and I believe that this was a greatly under appreciated car due to all of the motoring press being fixated with whatever comes out of Germany. These early SE-L models were also fully loaded before loosing previously standard spec like ACC after the 2008 facelift. Your car looks great Ben and has obviously been well cared for. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.1 point

Hi Kev Needs to be serviced by a Lexus dealer for the 10 yr rolling warranty to be effective as far as I am aware. You should also get a hybrid health check done. Lexus Edinburgh are superb to deal with. They should be able to give a history of previous services if these were carried out by them or indeed any other Lexus franchised dealer. I assume you have a fully stamped service book? Car looks great! Happy motoring.1 point
-
The Service History is available online on the Lexus website if you create an account and register the vehicle. It's very top-level though and does not detail everything, eg for my car just states a Service was undertaken whereas the invoice shows Air Con Service and Tracking was also undertaken. The Renault Service doesn't negate the Relax warranty, but equally won't count towards it so you will need to ensure you have a Lexus Service within the 12-months / 10,000 mile limit.1 point

This one can be hard to diagnose if you've already done balancing and have ruled out the tyre being out of round. Out of curiosity how did they make sure your tyres are not out of round? If the vibration is at certain speeds only it does infact sound like a balancing issue. I had this on a previous car and no one was able to diagnose it too in the end i took a punt and just got new branded tyres to replace the cheap ones the dealer put on it. Fixed the issue for me. If your tyres are cheap chinese ones they're most likely out of round.1 point

Hi Ben and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Lovely set of cars you have. Good matching too. A drifter 430 eh? Nice. Grom. Not bad a unit but has/had flaws. Lots on here about it. NOOOOO - please don't! The coating which is essentially like rubber is meant for old cars, I would say even vintage/classic cars. Have you seen how underbody of RX350h looks (or any Lexus from last 20 years for that matter?)... it is plastic clad everywhere! So applying rubberised coating like on 1970s Ford Cortina is not the way to go. What you need is to go to detailer and ask to apply something like Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac or Hydrate 80. https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/collections/corrosion-rust-treaments/products/bilt-hamber-atom-mac?variant=32326776291407 https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/collections/corrosion-rust-treaments/products/bilt-hamber-hydrate-80?variant=39561981001807 And it looks something like this: After that if you really want to go above and beyond - you can ask all the plastic panels to be removed and underside of the car to get ceramically coated, so it is basically becomes hydrophobic. But that is really unnecessary. What usually happens to newer Lexus is that exposed suspension components, bolts in particular get's rusty, everything under plastic covers are usually fine.1 point

I remember when i bought the car Don i had watched lots of YouTube vids and i watched Melissa at Northfield Texas show you how to easily fold it. I've never had it out of the bag since i put it back in it. Lol.1 point

I can certainly not my head in agreement to certain things in your opening post @Bill Dawes! The parcel shelf - well, boot cover, is indeed flimsy. Nothing more than a flexible frame with a thin fabric covering. I'm assuming that's down to a lack of boot space, so loads can still be at least obscured as bags e.t.c. 'push up' against the fabric from underneath. If it was a solid shelf, I'd imagine that would worsen the already poor boot space. I agree that the attaching loops are incredibly fiddly things. Fortunately, I found myself only having to remove it a couple of times when I had it. The NX still doesn't have a solid parcel shelf, but is certainly an improvement over the design of the UX one. Yes - I also thought it was very odd that were were no pockets, even small ones, in the rear door panels. Mine was a 2020 model (so fairly early) and I'd imagined it would have been tweaked by now (like the gearstick was, removing the touch pad gubbins e.t.c...) but was surprised to see that's still the case. Obviously it never really effected me as I was driving it upwards of 90% of the time, but it did feel a bit impractical on the few times I found myself in the rear. Otherwise I do think it's a neatly packaged and stylish car. I did overall enjoy the three and a half years I had with mine. The only thing which did bother me during my ownership was that poor boot space. It was absolutely fine during weekday commutes but when it came to weekends, days away or holidays - the back seats regularly had to become an extension to the boot.1 point

Investment potential depends on whether you ever leave it unattended or not. Tracker and immobiliser will help. As an existing owner you already know they’re awesome, but it’d be interesting to hear your views on the upgrades they’ve done - I’m very jealous of the 360 cameras. Oh, and do me a huge favour, one LC convertible owner to another - ask their CEO about canbus thefts and what they’re proposing to do about it. Cheers.1 point
-
Yes that's the case and I had it confirmed by email. The only proviso being it's all linked to the registration number of the Lexus that is covered. So if eg Lexus owner or spouse is driving a different car they will need to quote the reg number of the Lexus and then the details of the car that has broken down (if different). So always make sure driver and spouse know the reg number of the Lexus if in any other car.1 point
