  1. Drove 150 miles to see a dark blue with tan interior 2018 sport+ today. Tried to keep an open mind but as soon as I saw this car....WOW, it's imposing. When it started...WOW again haha. Salesman drove us up the rd, I had no clue we were doing that speed!! Effortless. We swapped over and within a couple of miles I had the rear end drifting around a couple of roundabouts, the salesman tested those grab handles haha..... Nope, open mind out of the window, deposit down. First impression, this car is huge, silky smooth and RARE. Roll on next week ;-))

  3. "On 6th July 2022, speed limiters became a legal requirement for all new cars manufactured in Europe. From 7th July 2024 onwards, all car manufacturers will be legally required to ensure any cars on sale in their showrooms have speed limiters fitted. This means that any showroom cars without speed limiters will need to have the technology retrofitted."

  5. One final note on this thread, for interest - how the various dealers from whom I didn’t buy a car reacted. I won’t name brands but there have been some distinct differences. I contacted all of them by email with my decision with thanks for their time and brief rationale for my choice. Most simply replied thanking me for letting them know, wishing me well with the CH-R and hoping they can sell me a car in the future. Fair enough. One asked for a telephone call - which I obliged. He wasn’t trying to change my mind (he never mentioned that at all) but genuinely wanted to understand the drive vs the price/deal against that he had offered - essentially the deciding factors and whether he had done anything ‘wrong’ or could have done anything better apart from a cheaper price. One Sales Manager called me to ask specifics about his salesman and how he had performed. Have to be honest, that felt like there was another agenda, but was happy to report salesman had been very thorough, polite and helpful. Finally - I guess there had to be one - sent an email expressing ‘surprise’ that I could have chosen a Toyota over ‘…a premium product at about the same price.’ Ouch 😂

  6. I don't think it is mandatory to have a speed limit warning yet is it? If not, I don't see how it can be a legislative issue for having audio as well as visual. My speed warning is often wrong as the system often picks up the 30mph city limit when I go around a roundabout onto the bypass (national speed limit, ie 60mph) and on the A9 it will incorrectly pick up the 50mph HGV limit and turn red. Heaven help us if (when) the vehicle's speed is auto adjusted to what the car thinks the limit is.

  8. +1 & some of you may be pleasantly surprised how easy these cars are to work on. It's no different than working on say a Yaris. The Hybrid system is what generally puts people off but your unlikely to go anywhere near it when doing routine or basic servicing. A few youtube tutorials & not only do you save some pennies but also the satisfaction of knowing the job has been done properly. Stick with genuine parts where possible & keep the invoices & when it comes to selling it potential buyers are unlikely to debate.

  9. TBH the issue is finding a good indy. I've been down that route with previous cars and found that although cheaper they skimped on many issues the main dealer did as part of the service - that even included one not changing spark plugs on schedule (even though they listed that they check change as needed) - started having problems with the car - took the the spark plugs out and found all of them were way past replacement so did them myself and the car ran fine again. I don't think there's any right or wrong answer - very dependant on the particular garage - swings and roundabouts.

  11. https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1657345 That's a link to the ad of my ls400, it's a lovely car, but I do want a change now, maybe Is300h, or Gs250, or anything different. I've loved my ls400, it's not mint, I would say the bonnet will need respraying, my fault, I used a blower to dry it once, but I think apart from that it looks good, drives well, all the big jobs done including cambelt and waterpump in 2020. Lpg converted, the filler point is behind the petrol flap so no holes in the body work. Make me an offer I cant refuse or if you want a swap with another lexus.

  12. I just purchased a 2020 Lexus NX300h a few days ago and have a very annoying continuious creaking noise coming from somewhere at the back of the car. Initially I thought it was the parcel tray or the back seats not being fully locked in but after checking these and even removing the pracel tray the noise remains. I have checked the spare tyre is secured and everything else I could think of but can't seem to locate the source of the noise. Taking it back to the dealer I got it from but have to wait a week for the appointment. So in the meantime I thought I would reach out to your good selves just incase someone else may have an idea to explore that I have not already tried?

  13. Hi all, just acquired a 2011 lexus 450h SE L with super low mileage , FSH and one owner. I'm a tad confused. Mine has a panoramic roof which should signify the Advance version. I've checked everywhere possible to get a spec list. Any help appriciated. I'm confused because my wife has the IS250 SE L that's has memory seats driver and passenger, heated and cooled front seats and a Mark Levinson sound system. Lexus equipment book says the ML sound/navi system is standard on SE L models. My lexus only has driver memory seats, standard sound system and onkh heated sests Thanks peeps

  16. You're welcome, so pleased it's fixed it for you. I totally agree with you re tape fixing a problem on a luxury vehicle, but it was my dealer that put the tape on first! It's definitely a design issue that has hopefully been resolved on the new model. The tape lasts a few months and I just keep a roll in the car in case it starts up again. Enjoy, it's a beautiful silence, isn't it ☺️

  17. Well that done the trick, a few bits of fabric tape and no more noise! Thanks to everyone who took the time to contribute. It does raise the question is this a manufacturing defect and therefore should come under the gaurantee? After all is it really acceptable to have to put tape on the latch to ensure the compontents of a luxury car work? Anyway thanks again for the tips which have worked and allowed me to get back to the pleasure of driving my car.

  21. Intermediate service for an RX should be £340 according to Lexus website so as long as total didn’t exceed that then I’d treat it as a courtesy. They probably need to show it on invoice to declare it as an expense.

  26. I note you're not UK based in which case you may be getting cars where you are, from Toyota, that we aren't? I recently sat in a new ES "Takumi" spec car and have to say it was fantastic! Very high quality interior and way better than any current Toyota model I've come across, at least in UK spec. The only downsides to the ES for me are 1. It's FWD so was never a true replacement for the GS, and 2) it's so long! Not the car you want for supermarket car park spaces here! Would I buy one? Absolutely, and it was a toss up between that new Takumi spec model and the RX4. It was a very close call between the two but on reflection I prefer the driving position and hatchback load space of the RX, otherwise I'd have bought the ES. It is, though, as with similar toyota models, subject to the same CANBUS vulnerability as the RX4s and used prices for ES cars don't seem too strong partially as a result of that. I do agree with the youtube commentator though that Lexus quality has continued to deteriorate over the last decade. Interiors with fake leather, the loss of so much craftsmanship especially on the late 2000's up to say mid 2010 models and generally a cheapening of the interiors which still look swish but don't stand up to scrutiny compared with some earlier models. Paintwork isn't as good and nor is panel gap and I am not a fan of any of the latest generation models so for me, my current one will be my last Lexus.

  27. Yep, first thing I did, shows it didn't move much for 2 years of its life. Legally it's genuine, so from a valuation perspective it's fine. I mean if it's genuine then I'm disappointed in the quality of the materials because it looks far more used than my 18 plate superb that I sold with 45k miles. I really can't believe that a Skoda interior uses better quality materials than lexus, that's the bit I can't reconcile.

  28. No chance to use a different dealer, it's the closest one to me already and it 95 miles away! Personally I'm not really too bothered by the quality of their service work providing they uphold the warranty if they fail to do the maintenance properly. I could use a much closer independent lexus service centre, but lose the warranty cover of course. I'm assuming that the warranty is worth paying for!

  29. The best test for a sticking caliper is does the wheel get warmer to the touch than it's opposite wheel after eg a half hour drive. If not, then I doubt you have a caliper problem. In my case one wheel was definately warmer (though not hot) although when the tech put it on the ramp and tried to spin the wheel he couldn't move it...! I didn't notice any pulling or anything adverse driving the car other than the intermittent squeal although I did think the mpg had dropped a little but that could have been due to too many other factors other than just the sticking caliper.

  30. Depends on the condition of the auxiliary battery. If leaving a month, I'd certainly want to leave mine on a CTEK or similar charging unit to condition and desulphate the battery if needed, overnight and preferably for a few days. A healthy auxiliary should read around 12.6V on a multimeter when not under load or charging. Just about all of my auxiliary batteries over the years have struggled to hold charge when much over 3 years old, much past a few weeks if the car has been left unused. Last one I changed after lock down as frequently, it was left for weeks at a time and that didn't do it any good. Never had an issue since buying a CTEK which I leave it hooked up to if the car is left for a week or more.

  31. Sadly many of us are in the same boat...lexus's service is no longer premium. Before buying the brand i heard loads about their Japanese way of doing things. The awesome customer focus and how everyone who leaves the dealership leaves satisfied. However my experience was far from it. When i bought mine used first thing i did was book it for service at a big name lexus dealership. I found their staff to be border line rude...no followups ..insensitive to the fact that i travelled far to get to them and to add to it incompetent. I ended up pointing to them things they missed as part of the "major" service. I was very disappointed as local indies have offered me better service. But what i can say is try a different dealership if you have options around where you live. Fortunately in London I have that luxury so next time i just went to a Toyota Lexus workshop that was close to me smaller in size and not affiliated to any big dealership. I found their service levels to be far more acceptable and prices for repairs cheaper.

  32. 6 months or so in, and covered around 7k miles in that time. I have no issues to report on that time, and the fuel eco has been as good and often better than I hoped, my long term average is at around 43 mpg. That's mostly after long motorway journeys cruising at a GPS speed of 70-75 mph and using mostly Tesco 99 Ron fuel. My biggest concern which is not really related to the car is that I do wonder if it has been clocked. Over the period I've started to notice little details that I missed on the initial cursory inspection, all of which suggest the car has had way more use than the 25k it had when I bought it. However, so long as it works reliably I'm not too bothered since I bought as a Selected Used Approved from Lexus so they've essentially guaranteed the history of the car, but my experience of the dealership so far is they're a bit clueless. My local FRF Toyota is way more professional and knowledgeable, which is disappointing. I've rung three times now about a corroding alloy wheel and despite a promise to do so, no one has rung me back. Time to call the dealer principal but you really shouldn't have to do that for a so called premium brand. My 14 year Skoda experience was much better in comparison too. Driving the car is fine, it's actually almost slightly fun as its quite grippy with little understeer. It should be given how much boot space is lost to rear suspension mounts etc.

  33. If that is indeed the case then perhaps the insurance providers could be more transparent and consistent in their pricing, which often seems not to follow much in the way of logic. Two examples of this that spring to mind is the disparity of pricing between an IS300h (£800) a Toyota Auris (£300) and a slightly modified Skoda Superb 220 sport line (£500). The lexus and Skoda from same insurer, the auris a different company. I can do a compare the market for any of those cars and the prices vary by over 100%, which is bizarre when they all use a small(er) pool of underwriters. To the consumer, it arguably appears that there is little in the way of consistently assessing the risk and therefore the cost. Maybe if the insurers spent less time playing with volatile pricing, they would be less susceptible to losing money, and the consumer would avoid the risk of a surprise financial shock each year. It's almost as if attempting to be too competitive, it's making everyone's life a misery.

  34. Interesting topic as, after three Lexus in a row, I’m downsizing into a Toyota CH-R in Oct/Nov. I was surprised at how good Toyota interiors are now - lots of soft touch plastics everywhere, interesting designs, good tech. Comparing the LBX interior with the CH-R, the LBX has far higher perceived quality…but, it is based on the Yaris Cross, whereas I’m led to believe the CH-R is on the Prius/Corolla platform. It has a larger 1.8 engine vs 1.5 three cylinder in the LBX too, and felt to me like a car from a size above. However, despite all that the LBX is more expensive model for model, and significantly more expensive on a PCP. The Lexus experience for me has been premium in every sense, and it’s fair to say the Toyota showroom/sales experience hasn’t been as good. It has been perfectly acceptable though, and for the price savings I’ve been happy to switch. Only time will tell if that’s been the right decision…

  35. It is hard to find an idea that I am more against than WFH. The historic context is this. People are tribal. They need contact with others both physically and psychologically for the benefit of their state of mental heath. Over a long period of time we have seen this breakdown. Tight communities fragmenting as people moved away usually for the need to work. Generally they have formed into larger town and city dwelling communities where the presence of more people has actually led to less contact at a qualitative level. Hands up those who live in a town ,or city ,but don't know the person who lives one floor below ,or two houses down the street. This form of isolation has been turbo charged by the electronic world. Now many people utilise a new medium for performing some functions of their life that leads to even less contact with others at a meaningful level. I don't think I could paint the trend here any larger if i spray painted it on your roof. For clarity, the employment work place may well be one of the few places remaining where people have any meaningful contact with each other. Where they actually form relationships that mean something . WFH threatens to remove even that. The future that I see pictures an ever increasing number of lonely, estranged people who over time have no idea of how to interact with each other. I won't insult your intelligence by stating the many reasons why this is not good .For our govt who look like wishing to promote this idea I simply suggest that good intentions do not by necessity lead to good outcomes. When you don't know what you are doing then don't do it. Rethink what you think you know.

  37. It is your money and your car, so I am not going to say to you not to buy Mazda 6... but it doesn't make much sense knowing how "cheap" cars work. The cheaper is the car, the more minor issues there will be (and potentially some major), there is point where cars are no longer viable to maintain as repairs are uneconomical... I would say in UK that point is ~£2,000. So when you getting cars for that amount you can be sure to find loads of issues. We have one model here on Lexus forum that accounts for probably 95% of all issues related to Lexus and that is IS220d. It is mainly for same reason - car got cheap, people stopped maintaining them and they are all failing (and that Lexus made few mistakes in design of the engine). The point I am trying to get to - there are no good cars for £2,000, by the time you get it running and safe, perhaps a service, few tyres, few minor issues... it will be £4,000... and if you sell it after just a year, then you most likely going to lose all the money you put into it. That is why people don't like to fix these cars, because at certain point keeping it in good condition no longer adds value to it. So here I would say - if you buy such car, then keep it until it runs, could be good 2-3 years and when it fails just scrap it or if it is still running then maybe sell it. But to buy it for a year, fix it up and then lose money selling just isn't good plan. Alternatively, you can look for Mazda in good condition, lower miles etc. but by the time you get to the good one you probably already in £5,000 range. In that case again - if you going to buy a nice Mazda 6, then why sell it after year, just have that for 2-3 years. I am no Mazda expert, so all this is just my opinion on cursory search and general knowledge, but the part of buying "cheap" car for a year is just not the most cost effective way.

  40. I've no final figure just yet, as the payment is split up into a larger initial payment and an additional, smaller, one when I pick the car up. There's liable to be a bit of movement in the final price, but the estimate is about £19,500. You can get pre-facelifts from Japan for significantly cheaper than this too; most imports are going to be better than a UK car for the same price, though won't necessarily be worth more on the resale market (i.e. my car will be worth significantly less than a UK equivalent 2012). The process itself was very fast. I was aiming to get a Mesa Red or Ultrasonic Blue but they're very, very rare in Japan so that could have been quite the wait. Most over there seem to be Black or White. This car popped up a little over a week after we started the search and was otherwise perfect (Grey is my third favourite colour regardless), so I couldn't really sit by and let it pass as I doubt we'd have found another one this nice for a while. And again, given the rarity of Red and Blue cars - I may very well have been forced to go for a different colour anyway even if I had waited longer. It's estimated that the car should take about 14 - 18 weeks to arrive, get registered and have all the appropriate work done, so it's a fair wait. Best to start as soon as possible - especially if you have any specific requirements.

  42. Right, decision made. It’s the CH-R Excel in silver/black with the optional JBL sound system. In the end I just liked it more than the other options and the deal - via CarWow with a non-local dealer - is too good to miss. Combine the highest offer for my RX with an (almost) £3k discount and I’m very happy. I’ll have to travel an hour to collect in Oct/Nov when the car arrives but worth it for the saving. Job done. And at least I stay within the Toyota ‘family.’ Turns out that in the end familiarity, reliability and an eCVT gearbox means a lot to me. And it’s a funky looking machine…mid-life crisis activate! Yes, I’ll miss the 3.5litre V6. Yes, I’ll miss the RX interior. But as a compromise, this feels like the smallest one I could make.

  45. No worries about fuel consumption on mine. I came from 7 years in a Gen 4 Prius so I thought I would maybe get 40mpg, but I get anywhere from low 50's to high 60's depending on journey of course. My average for this month is currently sat at 54.6mpg which is amazing. I know there may be discrepancies in real to computer, but comparing Prius trip computer, to NX trip computer figures I am amazed.
