  1. I've had my UX250h for just over 3000 miles now - and averaged 50.3mpg so far - which has easily exceeded my expectations. It's been a mixed bunch of journeys - motorway, A roads and B roads, with half-a-dozen drives over 120 miles and plenty of short local trips. Having downsized from an RX450h, the UX is not quite so refined and the drive is harsher and louder with the run flats, but I'm more than happy. My best mpg so far was a 25 mile trip on a slow, twisty North Norfolk road where I recorded 59.7mpg. The UX easily wins the economy stakes!

  3. No, its just a tracker, one of the Ghost models. They're keeping details of the software fix off line and your dealer, if reminded, should be updating you of when this is due for roll out. I was told Q3 this year for that but it's definitely aimed at the canbus vulnerability.

  4. A bit off topic but Lexus (Toyota too) have been a bit cheeky with their 'AWD' marketing. None of their Lexus or Toyota hybrid models are AWDs in the true sense, it's mostly on-demand AWD - and that's the very problem. I've seen videos of AWD RAV4s stuck in snow spinning their tyres like a 2WD - the rear motors never really kicked in or when they kicked in, it was too late. For Swedish winters, at least for me, this a no-go. I joined this forum as a potential buyer of the LBX but this is the very reason I struck the LBX and all Toyota 'AWD' hybrids off my list and went with something else.

  7. I try and make the doors a talking point, cannot open if bicycle coming etc, to prepare the ground. I have also found that everything Lexus needs to be taken at a marginally slower more serene pace than in my past life but that's a harder message to get across to new passengers and sometimes they are trying to get out before I've engaged Park and lexus has released the safety lock. It's only micro seconds but it catches people out.

  9. Just to add my experience following a service last Friday. When asked about the "fix" I was told no news, but when and as Lexus will contact me by post. It seems to me Lexus have no intention of releasing any sort of fix other than plates which aren't in themselves available for all models. It also seems these are offered on an ad hoc basis and one could be forgiven for thinking if you don't ask, you don't get. My take on the matter is that Lexus responded to the TV program (that cited the security flaw(s)) with a response designed to placate owners and protect the brand. Thereafter, they waited for the dust to settle before basically doing nothing. All very disappointing and remind me when the fix was supposed to be available..........

  10. That's not really how trickle charging works. You limit the current, not lower the voltage below 13v, otherwise the chemistry with a lead acid battery won't allow it to charge, certainly not to full capacity.

  12. There are various door lock settings on the new NX which can be accessed via the setup menus. We have ours set to open all the doors when you put the car in Park using the button below the gear knob. Your passengers would not be able to open the doors if you just pulled up to let them out with your foot on the brake without selecting "P". I suggest a careful reading of the manual regarding the door lock settings as it is not simple but, fortunately, manual override is also possible if you get stuck. There is no self parking facility on the Premium Plus - only the Takumi has this.

  13. When does this occur? I know the NX is not a sports car but I have found that it handles reasonably well for a big SUV.

  14. Pretty sure that you can replicate this effect by running the car in "maintenance mode" or with the engine otherwise forced on and idling (not propelling, not charging the battery, nothing). It still won't happen reliably. Mine's a mk3 at almost 410 000kms (250k mi), cold compression numbers last time I checked (a few months ago) were pretty much equal. What is always noteworthy is the amount of oil on the famous 5th cylinder*'s intake tract, and how clean of carbon that tract is due to the amount of oil there. What is also noteworthy is that the mk3 450h's 2GR-FSE engine has a unique to itself part number for the PCV valve - and different intake VVT-i phasers, but I'm more interested about the former. The -FXE in the gs450h is pretty much an evolution of that engine - more compression, even more aggressive late intake valve closing, some other relatively minor differences. Given the randomness of this issue, I'd say that it's very likely that it's just blowback oil pooling and then being forced in during specific circumstances. Doesn't take a whole lot of oil droplets to destabilize the combustion process of a single cylinder during no-load-whatsoever idling. My 5th cylinder spark plug tends to be a bit more worn than the others too. I haven't installed a catch can to test this theory yet, it happens way too rarely/sporadically and has been doing this since I got it (at 240k km or so). Sometimes even the incline on which the car is leaning seems to have an effect. If this turns out to be the case, I guess a "permanent" proper solution would be a good air/oil separator system - which would probably involve drilling an oil return line somewhere at the side of the oil pan. *if you haven't been reading Russian boards, the consensus seems to be that the 5th cylinder compression/wear issue is due to debris going past the air filter (on the mk3 3gs there's no rubber seal along the ends of the OEM filter - hence potential dust ingress) and mostly being funneled to the 5th cylinder (along with oil from the PCV) due to the design of the intake plenum - this appears to be a "common" GR-series engines thing.

  15. Has it been parked under the rock for last 8 years? 😄 FPS recall was in like 2016 and airbag 2018... so 90% of the cars have them done long time ago... Just make sure to take pictures of your dash before the recall, they quite often ding the corners of it, or crack them... Not saying that you should, but you could get new dash on them if they mess-up. And dash on IS250 is one of the parts that really wears down.

  16. Yeah that's better. That being said I did have 2G 32 in my previous one and it was absolutely fine for my use. I only used the carplay feature. I don’t know what it would be like if you were to play Netflix or something on it. Nope, mine doesn't have the M&L & camera, but you can put the aftermarket camera in place of the original one as it's gonna have a way better resolution. The only trouble is that some head units weren't compatible with M&L cars, you can easily check with them before ordering but I think the main issue were facelift cars. So 2008 should be compatible just fine. Like I said, worth messaging the seller prior to purchasing.

  19. I experienced an issue with my Pod Point charger a few weeks ago where it refused to charge my NX450. A remote software update and reset from Pod Point solved the problem but it did make me wonder how annoying it would be to experience this type of failure as a pure EV owner. A trip down to the nearest 60-90p per KwH public chargers would be required.

  23. I guess these issues are coming about because you're using, or want to use, the hive app. I don’t have gas or any hive gadgets so I just use my Alfen ev charger in dumb mode, plug the car in and it starts charging. If I want charging to be complete by a particular time, I use the Lexus Link app. Apart from an initial glitch with faulty mattock(?) When it was installed 2 years ago, charging has been trouble free so far.

  24. In the ‘good old days’ there would be a covered hole in the steering rack housing that you put the shank of a drill bit through, to mate up with a hole in the rack itself, this would center the rack, then you could adjust the tracking and steering wheel to be in the right place.

  25. RS☆R coilovers removed and will be put for sale. TEINS's fitted. Took a while to get the old rears out and new in. Torqued everything with figures from here and US Lexus site. First impressions, smoother and softer drive on these lumpy badly constructed potholes roads. Enjoy driving the car without eagle eying the roads rather than the traffic. The front is higher than the rear so will need to sort out the stance. TEINS have 16 clicks to adjust the firmness of the shocks. Fronts are at 8 and rears are on 5. Will probably readjust as time goes.

  26. I got about 3 years and 10,000 miles out of my last fronts, they were Falken something-or-other, but my alignment was way off, so the wear was inconsistent. I live in Sheffield, and the hills make quite a difference. my journeys are a mix of short town journeys, trips out fewer than 20 miles but also to airports or Southampton to start or end a holiday. Rears are down to 5mm in the same time as the fronts wore out ("oooh, they're down to the bars and we're off on holiday day after tomorrow!") I can't afford "premium" tyres, but if I need to replace them that often, I might as well go for cheap. I have Sumitomo on the front now and I'm very impressed with the level of grip they have.

  27. There are two ways to open the doors. Pushing the button in, or, the manual override - where you pull the handle out in a more traditional movement (twice). There’s also a manual physical release in the exterior too. I agree, it does confuse new passengers, but most get the hang of it eventually….

  29. Check the service data, and when the hybrid battery check was last done. The Nickle Metal Hydride batteries do last longer than Lithium which is one reason Toyota/Lexus use them but much over 15 to 20 years old and you may have to budget when you buy for replacing the battery pack at an Independent service provider which is cheaper than Lexus but would still be around £2.5K. If you could stretch to a slightly higher miles RX3 (ie, later 450h as there's plenty about on the used market at very reasonable prices), that might prove the safer bet wrt battery life. The other thing to check is rust, especially rear sub frame. They are prone to it if left unprotected. The only other things which may need looked at given the age are the water pump (these have been known to leak on RX400 series engines) and the condition of the suspension trailing arm bushes which are prone to wear due to the weight of the car, and not a cheap fix (no pattern parts AFAIK?). Engine, if regularly serviced, should be good for 300K miles, easily.

  30. I think the NX shelf is a good compromise. It's made of the same mesh fabric, but it does have a rigid frame with fittings that clip in at the back, crucially it has hinges in the middle so neatly folds in half and has a specific space for it under the boot floor. The thing it shares with the UX cover is zero sound proofing qualities so you will hear things rustling in the boot, fortunately my boot is always empty apart from when shopping etc.

  35. Yeah, but the point is - crapple wants to know all your details and control you. Good that EU now forced them to have different apps... and ironically that is likely to make apple devices better and I may even consider them at some point. Surely, it will be less profitable, but it is likely to make device better and in some weird way apple may end-up selling even more devices... although will make them less unique, harder to differentiate from android... and that is more competition. Consumer wins, that is why competition authority exists.

  36. Thanks for all the replies guys, I will call the dealer on Monday and see what they say. It does seem like it may need a ADAS calibration as when I’ve used the cruse control on a straight bit of motorway it seems to drift and then adjust and then drift and so on. I’m sure when I’ve driven a car with similar tech before it just planted the car in the middle of the lane and kept it there. Will let you know how I get on

  37. I would imagine just because the tracking and alignment is in spec does not necessarily mean the wheel is centered. The starting point should be centre the wheel and then make any adjustments to the tracking / alignment.

  39. Blimey! just enjoy driving the UX rather than eking out fantastic MPG. I had a couple of these models in the past and they failed to disappoint on the MPG and having fun driving them, putting the odd foot down in sport mode when I fancied it. Alternatively buy a Prius if mileage is more important. 😁

  40. Assuming that your cars engine and hybrid battery are good order, you should be able to achieve higher MPG figures. When I am driving my vehicle I always keep the vehicle in the default setting which is drive, I have never used eco mode. I always keep the HVAC controls in the auto mode. During my journeys I try to make use of the battery regeneration by taking my foot of the accelerator when safe to do so, very useful when descending a hill. When approaching red traffic lights or stationary vehicles I avoid rapid breaking, by applying the brake pedal gently it helps to regenerate the battery. On motorways I use cruise control, I normally cruise at about 65MPH, I avoid rapid acceleration. This all may seem a little boring, but by carrying out these simple procedures I get enjoyment out of seeing my MPG readings increase significantly.
