  1. All back to normal again this morning. Not sure why it/the App was having a funny turn. Probably will never know. Not a peep/response out of Lexus. I guess they're still debating about who should be making their office coffees this week .... no time for customers! ☕🫖

  3. I suspect there is more to this story than has come out. My car was delivered with a set of locking wheel bolts in Aug 72 but I was surprised when they started showing signs of rusting almost straight away. I didn't mention it to my dealer as I felt lucky that, unlike many, I did have a set. Pleasantly surprised that they were automatically replaced later (cannot remember if it was at the first service or when the door handles were replaced). The new set is a different design and better quality, no signs of rust showing. It is possible that there was a shortage when I got the car and it was my dealer, rather than Lexus, that fitted them for delivery without my being aware.

  5. My bolts were supplied at the same time as the second key (about six months after collection), although it initially went into the dealer just for the key. I'm glad they fitted them when they did because I was literally just about to order a suitable aftermarket set as I had no faith I'd ever see them. I'm of similar mindset after my experience with the whole fiasco of getting this car (also my second Lexus). It still annoys me some ten months after I collected it.

  7. Thanks @jeffrosie6 This is probably going to be an end of the era on this post. I've purchased a 2014 Toyota Mark X G's (later in 2016 renamed to GR). It's a similar chassis to the IS. Wheelbase 5" longer and overall roughly 8" longer while being 60-70kg lighter. It comes with the 2GR-FSE 3.5l engine and the G's extra chassis bracing, Aero, bigger brakes, body kit and suspension. Just makes more sense than IS350 as it's a lot more special in my opinion. I've been eyeing them up for over a couple of years and now I had the chance to buy one. Should be registered in next 3-4 weeks. It's on 39,000 miles (just under 63,000km) and 2 owners from Japan.

  9. As a two Lexus owner and recent purchaser of a late gen 1 NX300h I’m kicking myself and reading with mounting horror that somehow I missed the RAV4, ES, RX, NX canbus theft fiasco despite doing what I thought was extensive research for a nearly new used vehicle from various premium brands and deciding on the NX based on reliability, comfort and the dealer after sales service. Outside of owners forums, the criminal fraternity and a few articles this issue seems have been kept a dirty secret by Lexus and to make matters worse the Lexus (as a brand) attitude seems to be a two fingered, not our problem, fob off to affected and potentially affected owners of vehicles subject to this theft method. A theft method made unjustifiably easy by poor design by the manufacturer and it appears they are making every attempt to deflect and avoid responsibility for. Sadly this appears to be the modus operandi for Lexus (the brand) when faced with inconvenient problems of their making that owners suffer for. Although class actions have been mooted it appears the most likely method owners of affected vehicles can gain satisfactory redress to safeguard their valuable possessions as far as possible and to a level expected of a brand whose vehicles start at £40,000 and go up significantly from there and where even used models are between £20,000 to £35,000 from authorised dealers is to kick up such a very public fuss that it has the potential to become Lexus’s Ratner’s prawn sandwich moment. Although not generally available from a casual internet search and often actively hidden by larger corporates and brands it is relatively easy to establish the full corporate structure, senior and board officers and obtain personal contact details for most large organisations that prefer to remain obscure. Lexus will be no different and it really is wasting time dealing with a ‘customer service’ mouthpiece. That is exactly what they want. Obfuscate, wear down, evade and hopefully the energy and anger will dissipate and the problem quietly go away without doing anything. Should my NX300h be stolen due to canbus theft I am an educated, assertive, persistent and vindictive retired man with plenty of time on my hands and I will make it my mission to make sure Lexus’s refusal to provide a remedial fix for a problem entirely of their own making and they are fully aware of will be their Ratner’s prawn sandwich moment. I will sell my Lexuses, never purchase another one as has been the attitude of some of the more aggrieved owners on this site already inconvenienced and out of pocket due to canbus theft and make sure this does not remain concealed from the general public who think Lexus is an aspirational and desirable brand to own with high customer satisfaction. There is no point keeping this issue under wraps. The criminal fraternity and organised crime gangs are already fully conversant with canbus theft so owners are not disseminating anything that would cause them further significant damage. I would be interested to communicate with other Lexus owners who are concerned about this canbus theft issue, who have been fobbed off so far by Lexus UK Customer Services with such nonsense as use a steering lock deterrent, owners who have suffered and are now ex Lexus owners and who intend never to purchase another Lexus again due to the experience and those who have communicated with Lexus executives or organisations such as Which, mass media generally or similar rather than waste time with Lexus UK Customer Services. As a cohort existing Lexus owners are generally more likely than the average brand customer to be educated, affluent, assertive, pro-active and have useful skills and contacts. If Lexus wants that sort of customer for its premium priced vehicles, but chooses to insult and ignore them when not convenient for the brand as far as I am concerned it should expect to die by or at least be seriously financially damaged by its own sword and arrogance.

  10. Really excited to share that there'll soon be another IS-F on our roads, which I'll be the lucky owner of. It's a 2012 on just over 50k miles, in absolutely stunning condition. I'll be sure to keep you all up to date and share some more photos once it arrives.

  12. Used the updated Lexus map with new features on the way from Gatwick to Bristol. Well, I spent 2 hours driving through all B lanes. Got fed up and switched back to Waze and no diversion for the rest of the way and back. Whoever designed the Lexus maps definitely lives in Japan.

  15. These sort of issues and areas where it is happening are quite common i.e. bubbling arches in places where stones kicked by wheels had chipped the paint... for the car made in 1990s and 2000s that is... I have very similar looking blistering on IS250, just at the corner where bumper screws into the fender... and it seems to be caused by previous owner having small accident that pulled the bumper forward and the screw ripped out of the the fender... then over time water and dirt stayed in that little gap and attacked the metal from both sides, it must have taken many years for blistering to happen in that place. But that is 2006 car with 100,000 miles on it... not a flagship model from 2018. I would consider that unacceptable for car designed and made after 2016. It is kind of grey area as obviously unprotected metal will rust, but these sort of issues were long addressed by the time 2010s rolled in. I can't see any way for Lexus to claim they were not aware that stones are flying inside the wheel arche when the entire bottom of the car is already clad with covers. This sort of damage prone area should have been covered in the design phase. For example if you reach inside the arch of IS250 or GS300 you will feel that from inside there is undercoating under the paint in exactly this area, also plastic cover goes right to the edge. So if they were aware of this in ~2002 when 2nd gen IS and 3rd gen GS was designed, I can't see how they forgotten to protect it in flagship model more than 10 years later. So sure - this is stone chip induced damage, but also it is bad design. It would be hard to expect for it to be covered under warranty, but I feel it would be reasonable for this to be good will repair considering the class and cost of the car (and it is relatively new car).

  21. Thing is thinking this through. Given the criteria for a Cat D and given the age/value of the car just about any ding is going to qualify as Cat D. Bit meaningless without some idea of what the issue was. Given I suspect this has been in the same ownership for may be 7 plus years it may be possible to find out.

  23. I would start by checking sunroof drains if possible. There might be an obvious blockage like leaves but if not, try pouring water into the drains. The water should run away freely.
    1 point
  24. I would start by clearing the two front sunroof drains. A length of flexible curtain rail - the stretchy spring type uses for net curtains - pushed down the drains from the top. Check what comes out at the bottom end (close to the back of the front wheel arches). There is a rubber valve on the bottom which might be blocked. A good squeeze and wash with water should clear that. Worth clearing the rear drains as well while you are at it. They run through the rear of the boot area at each side behind the inner trim. Same valved outlet at the rear of the wheel arches.

  26. I was the same Antti, but I have bit the bullet and swapped to a UX. I was only considering Toyota Corolla or CHR (new shape), Mazda CX30 or Honda (civic or ZRV). I ignored bmw and Volvo due to possible reliability issues. In the end my UX came up and I liked the look and the Takumi spec was the same as my IS Premier with the extra modern (sometimes annoying) safety features. I have done a couple of hundred miles in it now and I am completely happy. The Dunlop runflat tyres are no noisier than the Michelins on my IS. The IS300 was the best car I have had and you are right it is a hard decision to change, the lower end Lexus cars (UX, LBX) are not built quite the same. My old car has been sold within two days of trading it in, somebody has got a really well maintained car for not a lot of money nowadays. Regarding the warranty my last service was before it’s 10th anniversary and 100k miles so actually got 11years. Good look in your search or just keep your IS and enjoy it.

  27. You are kind of in luck and not in luck at the same time... as that is certainly least desirable colour of them all (statistically speaking), but at the same time - naturally very few such cars were sold... I would be really surprised if it was 11... I think less!

  29. When I bought my SC 3 years ago I didn’t even mention to my wife I was tentatively looking at buying another car. I just told her that I had seen a car for sale and was ringing up the next day to buy it. Bad timing as we were going on holiday the same day. I think she is just about over it now bless her.

  37. Actually seen much worse MOT histories than the Green Godess. All the signs are this has been somebodys daily ride for the last 7 years ish. I take that as a good sign. Just a little blip of 5 months or so of in the MOT history , but hard to see why this might be a problem. The mileage all tallies so at worst somebody drove without MOT for awhile, or may be it was Sorned. If it was closer to me I'd be out for a look, but instead I will have to see if it still around in a couple of weeks.

  40. Buy an early 2017 or 2016 theyre the facelift version but the annual tax is only £10 /20 depending on the variant. Earlier 2013 2014 models were prone to waterpump failures at high mileages. Not as common on 2016+ but still check. As far as battery goes if you get a hybrid health check done at lexus every year the battery is warrantied for the next 12 month. You can do this for up to 15 years. So nothing to worry about. Other than that its an ultra reliable car with not many common problems. Just get a premier if you can it will have almost everything you need like ML sound system. Blind spot assistance etc. Else get the F-sport if you like the looks of it.

  41. Try doing a search on here its been answered many times. The F Sport has brilliant handling with slightly stiffer suspension & many other accessories dials etc Keep in mind the face-lift has Canbus tech vulnerable to theft & maybe higher on insurance not to mention more for road tax if your in the UK

  46. That is kind of what I said - practicality is not an issue... but only for normal LC buyer that has £100k to spare. It is however an issue for wider appeal for used cars. Any coupe it hard to sell nowdays... LC is just less practical and more expensive. Also in comparison practicality of LC it is very poor - BMW 8 has folding rear seats and massive boot, you can put 2 whole bicycles there. MB S-Coupe is also massive, comfortably sits full grown adults in the back and even thought rear seats doesn't fold the boot is humongous. LC boot size is just part of an issue, the key problem it is how it opens and it is literally just a hatch. Folding seats - forget it. Also in terms of rear seat practicality - there is more legroom than in RC, but headroom is actually worse or comparably bad. However, I would say rear seats are kind of irrelevant for coupe buyers, but boot is relevant for any car. I always argued that LC should have been hatchback (like Celica, or Jaguar XK... or LFA) and have folding seats. in such case you get entire real glass as your opening. Boot size in general maters for GT car... you want to go to Eurotrip driving 2000 miles with your belongings... you need more than bag of golf clubs there. I agree that LCis special car, but if Lamborghini driver driver flagging you is a metric then you can get the same in BMW i8. Key issue with BMW 8-series is that... first of all it is not 8-series, it is 6-series and secondly that it is basically 4-series in larger body and bigger engine... the interior quality is real low point, it does not feel special at all. I doubt person in blind test would be able to tell the difference sitting in 420d and M650. What is the issue with S-Coupe... to be honest I don't know, they just seem to depreciate like a sinking anker, but otherwise I can't really fault them from perspective of luxury GT car. Now sure - I have always said that LC is perfect second car... in garage with RX it sits extremely well. But people who have double garages and can own two cars don't buy depreciated 8 years old coupes... from Lexus. I think used car market is where LC is not that competitive. Again - I like the car a lot, but it is not £45k car. I very nearly got to buy one just before covid started and they already reached £40k in January 2020... and that was for 2 year old cars with under 10,000 miles. I know times have changed, but I feel now that Lexus not going to artificially keep them in the network, the price will catch-up, the market itself is catching-up anyway. So my prediction - is that Lexus stopping sales of new LCs will DEFINATELLY not going to increase their value. On that point I am confident. How much the value will drop, where it stops, when it starts rising again and where it stabilises - sure that is crystal ball type of prediction.
