  1. Really excited to share that there'll soon be another IS-F on our roads, which I'll be the lucky owner of. It's a 2012 on just over 50k miles, in absolutely stunning condition. I'll be sure to keep you all up to date and share some more photos once it arrives.

  2. I have the yellow, with a black interior, I love the combination. It's an AWD Takumi that replaces an NX.

  3. Absolutely delighted with my new NX 350h - no problems at all and the car thoroughly deserves this accolade.

  4. When I took delivery of my NX450h I had serious reservations regarding the run flat tyres however having suffered a puncture on the motorway the benefits of such tyres became obvious. Yes they are expensive and rarely repairable but I would have no concern with them in the future. Unfortunately they were not an option when I changed to the RX.

  5. Interesting David. I had not thought of looking at mpg on the Lexus Link+ app, but this week I did several trips with a fully depleted traction battery and the app gave me the following mpg figures: 11 miles on local roads 49.7 mpg 3 m on local roads 46.2 mpg 4 m on local roads 48.3 mpg 69 m on motorway at 70 mph 41.1 mpg My previous claim of 51 mpg was the dashboard indicated figure of HV taken over a period of about 8 days, with a depleted traction battery, on local roads, but not sure of the mileage done. The next experiment is to switch to E5 fuel instead of E10! Tom

  6. Thanks, its only just arrived at the docks so it'll likely be a fair wait. Hopefully I should be on the road before the end of the year, all going well, though.

  7. 2015 model CT200h - I noticed that, in sunlight, the inset dashboard in front of the display screen reflects on the screen itself, obscuring the lower portion - see picture 1. I found this rather irritating but came up with a simple solution - I cut a piece of scrap black velvet to fit the inset, with the fibres pointing towards the screen, and it completely removes the reflection - see picture 2. It doesn't even need to be glued in place.

  8. I’m wondering what the more experienced owners have bought and found useful? I’ve ordered:- A Nick jump starter and the lead to attach the trickle charger to the battery A central arm rest storage top bin, to help organise this

  10. I see 2 possibilities: 1. they will continue to fall slowly until they reach certain point and then the price will stabilise ~high 20s. Making it sort of IS-F>RC-F>GS-F>LC500 Supply of new cars has no relevance in case of LC500s, nobody bought the new for a while now. It was a trickle, couple of cars a year at best. Majority of LC500s were sold in first few years and that is true for most of such cars. 2. they will drop suddenly and then stabilise at ~high 20s. The reason for that - majority of used LC500s were always sold by Lexus dealers, it seems like Lexus paid special attention and tried to keep most of the cars in the network to sort of "control depreciation" and have monopoly on used LC500 market (I have no evidence but it seemed like Lexus was scooping them all and then fixing the price at high 40s and early 50s for a while). Now that cars are EOL they likely let the cars be traded by independent dealers at whatever market is willing to pay and that should reduce their value quite significantly. I personally don't see LC500 as collectors car, they actually sold quite a few of them and there is plenty of competition in that price point. Also they are not very practical... the fact that can be overlooked by person who buys brand new toy into the collection of multiple cars for £100k, but not the general public that needs to pay £45k for used car, which is potentially single car in household... suddenly practicality becomes a concern. That is why there is no issue selling 10 years old SUV, but selling used coupe which has tiny hatch for a boot barely fitting golf bag is an issue. Or... that is wishful thinking as I would gladly grab one for under £20k whenever that comes to the market.

  11. The consumption displayed in the car and on the app will be the combined ev/hv figure. When in hv mode I have found there will be both a reduction in total ev range when the ev power takes over from the ice and an occasional increase through regeneration depending on road conditions. My 50+mpg journey was entirely in hv mode (and with E5 petrol) and the ev range only fluctuated by 2 miles over the entire journey. As you say a long journey in the RX is so comfortable! Did an exclusive ev journey yesterday involving motorway and city driving achieving 49.5 miles before the ice cut in.

  12. Mercury Grey I believe - colour code is 1H9. Only on 2012+ cars as far as I know.

  17. I use a RING RAC635 tyre inflator. Works well and has lasted 10 years now. Still available from the RAC shop for around £35. Not seen a cordless one that works as well yet. For beefy performance the £85 RING RAC830 is one of the best ones imho.

  18. I got shot of my OE Sportmaxx tyres as soon as I could, awful things. I fitted Bridgestone Turanza 6's instead. Way better grip and ride.

  19. I'm no mechanic but you have to weigh the risk against cost of repairs if anything goes wrong and, personally, I wouldn't risk it.

  20. No I don't ever rotate the tyres, overall wear seems similar to other large cars I have had.

  22. I think Linas explained it quite in depth in another post but the IS front brakes are a little undersized so going for quality parts is never a bad thing in this situation, EBC seems to be a good make and he suggested them as a good option, I've got some Brembo's that I fitted myself and theyre okay but I just went for the cheapest option at Euro car parts at the time with some Andura front discs. Smooth quiet braking so no complaints so far

  23. I have a Crit-Air Level 2 sticker on my LS430 because all LS430s were and are Euro4. Sorry Malc, you cannot currently drive your pre-1997 registered cars in any of the French cities that operate the Crit-Air system.☹️ You'll have to take the Honda. They are working on issuing a Classic car sticker to 30+ year old cars but it's not been done yet, no doubt delayed because of their election.

  24. Replaced mine a year or so ago because the 4 connectors had broken free, it was just lying wedged on the box rattling. Not sure where the £355 figure came from though mine cost £115 from Lexus direct.

  26. Having read many reviews of the Teyes Android system, and already owning a Teyes for a VW, August 2023 I purchased the specific dedicated unit for my 2012 IS200d. My car needed the fibre optic version because of the aircon. The unit arrived and all good. UNTIL RECENTLY! I noticed that the area around the Passenger warning light had become disfigured from over-heating, and then I noticed that the whole facia unit had come away from the rear. I have emailed repeatedly to Teyes Support but NIL response. So my message is, BEWARE!

  27. Mine was about £350 and covers a number of replacement tyres (if irrepairable), punctures and alloy refurb if damaged. Max claim per tyre is £250 and maybe if I'd had time to shop around I could have got one fitted nearer that price.

  28. Hi Ken I’m intrigued to hear overall consumption of 50+ mpg . I get that sort of figure showing in the app after a long trip but that includes the electric ev only range. Driving gently, under the speed limit (av 45mph). So not sure I could get close to 50 just using standard hybrid. Is the app only showing me the mpg when in HV or is it showing the overall combined HV and EV figure? Another question I have is when I switch to HV mode I still seem to lose some of the EV range. I thought it would gradually increase from regen but it actually reduces a little. Got to say the RX makes a long journey so easy. Loving the car.

  29. I agree Ken. I think we were living parallel lives at the time of these issues. 😁 Lexus Leeds were very good at dealing with them and i always had a loan car if I didn't want to wait or it was an all day job.

  30. I had an issue in February when I had a puncture on a run flat. The tyre wasn't repairable and due to family serious illness I needed a tyre to be swapped quicker than Max Verstappen! Anyway, I took the car to Lexus Leeds and they had replacement in stock. It wasn't cheap - around £290 but I had taken the tyre & alloy insurance when I bought the car so was able to claim £250 back. The claim process was easy and the payment came quickly.

  31. An SE-L will have HID headlights. The bulb type is D4S. Swapping the bulbs is pretty straightforward, but there isn't much room for your hands unless you remove, or loosen and reposition, the air filter box to do the driver's side bulb. Removing the filler neck of the screenwash bottle to do the passenger side bulb, also helps.

  32. I replaced both column adjusting motors on mine about 4 years ago, both had failed. (Found both replacements on Ebay.) The problem is they do a lot of work moving the steering column away from the driver every time you turn off the ignition. Then moving it back when you turn on the ignition again. This constant in and out wears out the motors. I then found out there is an option in the software to turn off this feature, and then the steering wheel will stay where it is, unless you use the switch to move it. The problem is you need the Lexus programming tool to program the change. I asked the service department at my main dealer if they could do it for me, and how much? The answer was, 'just let us have the car for 10 minutes sir'. The technician turned up with the programming tool and did it in less than 10 min. 'No charge sir' ! Got to recommend Lexus Stockport, they can be very good.

  36. Well that's the pseudo-feudal capitalism we live under, and that's why some of us wish we'd live in a different, fairier society. What is amazing to me is how many who suffer still defend this system of values... that's beyond me.

  37. Alas yes, if only the IS350 were offered here

  38. Yes. Should be on all new models. I have it on my 4th gen. It basically raises alerts, with the posted speed limit showing on the HUD, which turns red if you exceed the S/l, but also triggers an annoying alarm bell, which thankfully can be toggled off in the menus. The EU are introducing mandatory limiters in all new cars which physically limit speeds using RSA cameras together with GPS, but defeatable within the menu system, so you can exceed the limits at your own risk. Personally, I think there's far too much interference in personal freedoms and whilst I'm not condoning speeding, I strongly object to the one state EU trampling personal freedoms as whatever is bound over within the EU gets bound over here too in relation to motoring and car manufacturing requirements.

  39. Pictures speak louder than words. My beautiful SC430 2008, finished in Palladio silver metallic with ivory Rutland leather interior. Full Lexus provenance. Timing belt and water pump changed 11/8/2020 at 40892 miles. Current mileage 51080. MOT carried out at Lexus Newcastle on 19/6/2024 with no advisories or issues. Just a beautiful example of the marque. Private plate included. Offers in the region of £12000. Based in Northumberland.

  40. It's 'mission critical' because right at the start of the whole process there are a pair of 12V safety interlock relays that have to be operated before access to the hybrid system is allowed. Not enough power to operate the interlock means no car.

  41. The 12v battery can definitely lose charge to a level where it cannot put the car into Ready mode for the Traction battery to take over. The Lexus/Toyota Hybrid system doesn't allow the Traction battery to fall below a level where it would fail to operate normally.

  42. Excellent Herbs. But if I’ve understood you correctly, that’s the theoretical time to full discharge. It will fail to start an ICE long before that. There seems to be a range of opinions on the matter, but the consensus seems to be that a healthy 12v engine needs a battery level between 12.2v - 12.8v to ensure reliable starting. Below 11.8v and starting starts to get difficult. Below 10.8v and it will generally be impossible.

  43. I bought a small jump pack because on these hybrid cars there is no warning that the 12v battery is faiding, it just stops working. On these hybrid cars the engine is started by the traction battery, the 12v only starts the computers so a small jump pack should be enough.

  44. It’s called parasitic draw (or drain). There are many systems in a car that require a constant current to keep them activated. The most obvious one is the clock! And then there’s the dashcam in standby mode. But modern cars are mobile computers and require an array of constantly powered chips to maintain their functionality. Apart from which, batteries tend to loose current over time anyway. Solar chargers can be a very effective way of maintaining battery current levels. Here’s how one auto battery maker describes parasitic drain: “Typically, the normal amount of parasitic draw is between 50 and 85 milliamps in newer cars and less than 50 milliamps for older cars.” “A parasitic draw above this threshold is considered excessive and can eventually stress the battery and shorten its life.”

  45. Fully agree with the dashcam - too many scam accidents, the latest near me is throwing a bicycle under the front of the car and claiming all sorts. Bluetooth 12v battery voltage monitor to stop me obsessing about flat battery. Big yellow stoplock steering wheel lock as visual deterrant. Considering a solar charger if I need to leave the car for over a week - e.g. airport

  46. A good quality dashcam front and rear. It only has to provide supporting evidence for a claim once - and it will have paid for itself many times over. Then take your pick from an escalating range of security devices. But at least have a very visible and substantial steering wheel lock - such as a DiskLok or a Milenco.

  47. When I purchased a used yellow car - “these are very rare, we can’t give you any discount” When I sold it - “there isn’t much demand for this colour hence a lower trade in price compared to book value”
