Well im sure you don't mean to blame the victim but that's how it reads @Boomer54 . They don't even need collusion. Greed alone is enough. We've seen it with the cost of living hikes, with supermarkets, energy companies driving prices up because they can (greedflation). There are serious studies proving this. There may be infinite insurers, but they're represented by their own unions. It does not matter that they're many. Some sectors seem "heavily regulated" (de-facto entrance barriers for competition), but they spend hefty sums lobbying regulators. Laws are tailored to them; when it comes to the important stuff (price and service) they can get away with murder. People need cars to live and work + insurance is compulsory = with inelastic demand, systemic incentives are in place to bleed the consumer dry. What incentives do privatised water companies have not to dump raw sewage into coasts and rivers? Our system (our type of capitalism) cannot work for most of us because it's rotten at the core: the incentives to do any type of good just aren't there. The endgame is not stability or wellbeing. It is blind-growth-by-any-means-necessary, at the expense of everything else, including the famous argument in favour of efficiency (it is probably the least efficient of systems). Whether it is something important or irreplaceable, it's expendable in the face of aligning numbers on a spreadsheet, which seems the ultimate goal of our species. The rest can wait. Raw sewage can be dumped if that means a few more numbers on the spreadsheet. Investment banking used to be separate from domestic banking, but it hasn't for some time (and that's partly why so many can't dream of owning their own home now). In 2008 deregulation caused quite a few tragedies while some sectors were screaming for even more deregulation. Our memory seems weak. Anyway I digress... I will just say anyone who thinks China is a "communist" country: please get a dictionary or look up some definitions.3 points

We all knew this already… ”The Lexus NX is the Auto Express 2024 Mid-size Premium SUV of the Year with the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC commended” https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/lexus/nx/363553/mid-size-premium-suv-year-2024-lexus-nx Even better now the 450h+ prices have been reduced!2 points

100% agree with this. Pricing is one thing. Even the terms of insurance are also so heavily lopsided....just so that they can force us to declare stupid things like stickers, spoilers etc. to raise prices further or get out of paying when the time comes. If our policy makers truly had public interest at heart and were not lobbied by the insurance cartel we would have a system like australia where the basic mandatory 3rd party insurance is covered as part of the annual VED. Truth is we live in a corporatocracy and nobody cares about the common people. Were just consumers to them. Also china might be communist in their political outlook but their economic system has a role for private capital and is very exploitative of its labour which are clear capitalistic traits.2 points

I'm sure they didn't. I was just giving my experience for the benefit of reason and balance.2 points

I think you'll find that Auto Express didn't encounter any of those issues during their test either.2 points

WOW! With all the component shortages, keys, locking nuts etc. The numerous recalls, dodgy door handles especially in cold weather, sensor failures, the rest of the competition must have been complete rubbish in comparison.2 points

Ah, so that makes it OK then. Good to know. I have a different view, caveat emptor is not necessarily the basis of a healthy society. I'm all for rewarding hard effort and success but not everyone is born with equal abities. Sorry, but the insurance industry in the UK stinks and is profiteering from this pseudo competitive landscape of new customers only mentality, it might not meet the technical description of a cartel but it's behaviour sure is like one. To suggest otherwise is perhaps a little naive. It's not unique either to insurance, we've seen much the same problem with the railways (which of course have to meet regulations and standards too) where the deregulatory strategy has clearly failed.2 points

Well the 300h has arrived and I must say it has potential. It is already eclipsing the 250h for fuel consumption and I can tell it’s going to go well. If found a display I like and I’ve always liked the gear shifter. There’s a an option of a second row of controls from the CarPlay screen so you can get into the Lexus menu very quick. The speed warning doesn’t bother me but disabling it only requires two clicks. The graphics are super and I’ve attached some photos. Ignore the fuel consumption, that’s because I had it running while I was messing.2 points

Hi all, I had my vehicle in at Lexus Edinburgh for an unrelated issue (squeaky boot partition) and the Service Tech performed the OTA update on the car. I assume they have a local version in house and installed it that way. What I noticed from the update is a new feature called Proactive Driving Assist (PDA). This is disabled by default and can be found inside the shortcut section in the main screen (the section where you can enable/disable other Driving Assistance Settings). The feature is similar to enabling Adaptive Cruise Control with LTA but at a less intrusive manner. For instance, if the car feels you are getting too close to the car ahead, it will gradually apply the brakes to bring you back to a safe distance. It works great in most circumstances, although it struggles when there is parked cars on the side of the road (similar as to having ACC on). I found this video in the Lexus YT channel and an article by JD Power which explains it in greater detail. https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/what-is-proactive-driving-assist-in-a-lexus-or-toyota#:~:text=Proactive Driving Assist uses the, keep the vehicle under control. There are no other CarPlay/Android Auto update as mentioned by LSFT in Youtube offered OTA or through the service update. I hope this is helpful!2 points

I agree Ken. I think we were living parallel lives at the time of these issues. 😁 Lexus Leeds were very good at dealing with them and i always had a loan car if I didn't want to wait or it was an all day job.1 point

I had an issue in February when I had a puncture on a run flat. The tyre wasn't repairable and due to family serious illness I needed a tyre to be swapped quicker than Max Verstappen! Anyway, I took the car to Lexus Leeds and they had replacement in stock. It wasn't cheap - around £290 but I had taken the tyre & alloy insurance when I bought the car so was able to claim £250 back. The claim process was easy and the payment came quickly.1 point

Osram Night Breaker are pretty good and available in most fitments, but you would be best to replace both if you don't want your car to appear it's squinting.1 point

I replaced both column adjusting motors on mine about 4 years ago, both had failed. (Found both replacements on Ebay.) The problem is they do a lot of work moving the steering column away from the driver every time you turn off the ignition. Then moving it back when you turn on the ignition again. This constant in and out wears out the motors. I then found out there is an option in the software to turn off this feature, and then the steering wheel will stay where it is, unless you use the switch to move it. The problem is you need the Lexus programming tool to program the change. I asked the service department at my main dealer if they could do it for me, and how much? The answer was, 'just let us have the car for 10 minutes sir'. The technician turned up with the programming tool and did it in less than 10 min. 'No charge sir' ! Got to recommend Lexus Stockport, they can be very good.1 point

Description Close My ls400 is a dhp, and lpg converted, the lpg is behind the filler flap, no holes in the body. I've owned it twice, bought it back in 2020, since then I've had the cambelt and waterpump replaced, serviced every year, new rear upper arms, ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, new spring, new wheel bearing, new rear handbrake cables, new battery, sparkplugs, air filter etc, its green, and in good condition, it does couple of Mark's here and there, if I was picky, there are stone chips on the bonnet and I think I would get the bonnet resprayed at stated above I used a blower on it to dry it after a wash, but it ain't that bad. It passed mot last October, this time with no advisories, I was so happy with this, i have been using lanoguard since after last years mot, and its dealt with the surface rust underneath nicely. It's done I think around 115000 miles, dave at lex tek knows my car as he was the one who fitted new cam cover gaskets and drive belt and got me a spare key, so I have 3 keys for it.1 point

Apart from the original supply issues, I haven't had any problems with my NX. Hopefully in the long term it proves to be reliable and trouble free 😀😀1 point

One of the last jobs I need to do on my car is the drivers door check strap is sticky and clicks very loud, looked up the part on one of the Lexus on line sites and then on the Japanese Amayama site . Was rather gobsmacked with the different in price …why so different …are we being had over 🤔🤔 Photos..So UK price , then from Amayama and item delivered today .1 point

Hey Stephen, Ah so ( in a Chinese accent ) I don't think it was a personal comment, maybe just a slightly but not totally different viewpoint. All pals again now?☺️1 point

Well, seeing that I haven't personally encountered any of the issues you have listed, I'm inclined to agree with Auto Express.1 point

Switzerland and Western Austria are indeed beautiful especially in late Spring, but take a lot of readies with you as these places are quite pricey. We got stuck in Geneva for a couple of days/nights waiting for a flight - nearly bankrupted us.. BTW Bavaria and the German/Italian Alps are a cheaper and equally beautiful alternative.1 point

Thank you Phil. My car is in for its annual service at Lexus Liverpool next week so I will ask them to do that for me.1 point

"The issue is profiteering from insurance companies which is a by product of a deregulated free market. I think what @Mr_Groundhog was highlighting how that lack of regulation isn't helping the consumer, it's screwing us over. " No disrespect ,but that statement is factually incorrect. To start with the UK Insurance Industry is tightly regulated and overseen by the PRA and FCA. Hence, it is not deregulated. Is it however, a free market? Not really ,because the requirement to have motor Insurance if you have a vehicle is a statutory requirement. Hence, we see clearly the Motor Insurance Industry is neither deregulated nor a free market in the sense you have any choice in whether you have Insurance ,or not when you have a vehicle. I see however, the real implication in the statement is that the suppliers of Motor Insurance are in collusion to fix the price of Insurance, hence profiteering and that activity is not governed severely enough by the Regulators. Unfortunately, I disagree with such an implication. Fixing the price works well in a cartel where you have relatively few suppliers, but the moment the market fractionalises and increases in numbers then the cartel loses it's power to determine the flow of business as non cartel members take advantage of the arbitrage opportunities to undercut cartel members and basically steal their business away. In the UK we have far too many Insurers for a cartel to function effectively. Unlike the Oil Industry. No, the error here is misunderstanding the Insurers methods of doing business and confusing that with the issues of all the above mentioned. In effect over time Insurers have come to understand the optimum way for them to do business is not to reward loyalty ,but rather exploit apathy. This can look like profiteering to the person seeking Insurance, but it isn't really. it is exploitation of opportunities when people are apathetic about seeking out better solutions for themselves, but who in such a case is to blame?1 point

I had a Yaris Cross AWD and the rear axle hardly ever came into play except starting on a wet road. It did so on a snowy day 50/50 so it worked really well. I only had the display on for a short while yesterday but it was working full time like you say so they’ve changed it and on the new model it’s gone from 5 to 41 HP. I’m not aware of the speedo being configured to show limits but I didn’t study the different options. It is smart on a Mazda and shows a green jewel at the speed limit which turns red at the posted limit but I’ll have to report back on that. I typically got about 45 mpg with the 250h but I’ve got a feeling this is going to surpass 60 when it’s freed off. By the way, I had a 350h but it went back following a disagreement with the dealer about the spec’ (not this dealer I used for the UX, a different one).1 point
-
Very nice Don, glad the dealer came up with a deal that worked for you. I like the speed warning it’s very discrete. Not sure if the UX is the same, but I didn’t realise on my NX how much the rear wheels are used, I thought it was just when extra grip was needed. If I have the All Wheel Drive display up you can see the rear wheels are working when initially pulling away then stop once up to a certain speed. Can the Speedo be configured to display all the speed limits as I would want to see 30, 50, 70 etc Think I would just have the large digital speed as that is what I have been used to for so many years Good news about the fuel consumption too, I am amazed at what mine does, so yours must be even better.1 point

Though still slightly confusing. You suggested buying a Chinese car presumably as its built by a communist country and then point out it's a crap choice. The issue is profiteering from insurance companies which is a by product of a deregulated free market. I think what @Mr_Groundhog was highlighting how that lack of regulation isn't helping the consumer, it's screwing us over.1 point

Oh I wonder why that is. Do Lexus dealerships recognise there is a problem and think they might get stolen and so they protect their cars?1 point

Thank you 😃 It’s amazing how quickly you get used to letting the car start the braking. I have had the odd time where it wants to start braking for a car parked on a kerb in an otherwise empty road, but it’s easy enough to override it.1 point

If it is important to you,be aware that there are 2 types of trim.. Leather.....it is what it says, and Tahara" leather"..which ISN'T leather, but is some type of plastic or vinyl. I don't know how Lexus( or Mercedes) didn't get prosecuted for misdescription by calling plastic "leather"1 point

I reckon it's the Premium Plus pack given the 18" alloys and leather trim.1 point

Well that's the pseudo-feudal capitalism we live under, and that's why some of us wish we'd live in a different, fairier society. What is amazing to me is how many who suffer still defend this system of values... that's beyond me.1 point

I didn't have the same issue exactly, but my battery died after being away for 3.5 weeks. It was nearly all drained and when I tried to open the door it didn't have enough power to do so. I opened it with the emergency key and tried a little charger but that didn't work. And nothing happened when I jumped it with a friend's car -- it wouldn't crank whatsoever. So I disconnected the battery, got it recharged to 90% full, but still no luck getting it to crank. I figured it might have to do with the security system and the immobilizer. Big thanks to Chris (chr15gb) for recommending the procedure to reset the car immobilizer (see the Dec. 5, 2020) post above. That procedure did the trick and he saved me from needlessly buying another battery or having it towed to the dealer. Greatly appreciative for that suggestion.1 point

Parked on road - London resident parking bay. Small amount of CCTV shows it being driven off, so the canbus access through the bumper does not create enough damage to make them undriveable.0 points

Yes, mine was stolen earlier in the year. London. Canbus theft, not recovered, insurance write off.0 points
