  1. I think the reality is we have put too much tech into cars and made them completely dependent on it, which becomes an Achilles heel if something goes wrong. True across all makes not just Lexus.

  2. Sorry to read of your plight Bill and of course, no owner should be put in this position. You may wish to consider printing or having on your phone section 9-5 of the manual which explains about manual door opening as there are a few gotchas. For example, when using the internal release, the handle has to be pulled twice, the first pull enables the manual operation and the second pull opens the door. The power switch should not be ON, as this disables the manual release. Access from the outside should also have been possible using the manual door release; it may have been necessary to first use the mechanical key to unlock the door and thus enable the manual release to work. I'm not sure about the car demanding a security code but in section 9-3 it states that if the car won't start after installing a 12v battery, then touch the Lexus emblem side of the key fob to the power switch to start the car and wait for the buzzer to sound. The manual also recommends that if you have a jump start, keep the second vehicle connected for about 5 minutes and during that time open and close any of the doors with the power switch OFF and then turn the power switch to ON and wait for the Ready indicator to come on. Not sure what this sequence does but that's what it says on page 728 of my manual. Keep your key in your pocket too. A friend with a Yaris recently had a call out for a flat battery and he put the key on the dash and then closed the door! He then spent 15 minutes breaking in to retrieve the key!

  4. £80K for the top of the range NX .... WOW !!!! I'd call that another issue, or was it a special edition with added anomalies. 😔 I too am sorry to hear that you've had problems.

  6. Have decided to swap my LS400 for an electric vehicle. I have had 9 years with Rio but it is time to part with her. I do appreciate I will never be able to go back but my mind is made up. Circumstances / needs change. The electric car will be a family car that my daughter and son- in-law can use when needed. I am too embarrassed to tell you what EV I have purchased! I was hoping to hide the LS but my garden is too small and the garage too cluttered. It will be a sad day but three cars are Two too many. I know Malc will disagree.

  7. What a nightmare. Hope you get it sorted quickly; can't understand why you have to take it to the original Lexus dealer, can't they talk to each other? On a personal level, I am concerned reading this as I am not aware of a 'Lexus Password'. I certainly was never informed of one, nor have I been asked to set one. Should I have been given one when I picked up the car?

  8. I think this is equivalent to an old radio security code when it was disconnected from a battery…

  9. Having been considering buying an RX the canbus fiasco has certainly put me off the brand, I was interested in one recently as the alternatives have different potential issues particularly as a long term ownership prospect . So, autotrader has a Lexus RX 450h 2022 premium pack, 10k miles at a main dealers at around £37500, tried the part ex trade in price estimator for that car, looking at a hypothetical PX to an RZ, Asking price £55K, again at Lexus main dealer, their best trade in price that they would offer £28500! So simply buying the car I'd loose £9k as I drove off the forecourt. Makes you think.

  10. Enjoy the new driving experience. My wife has a Corsa E. It seems a good family car, better range than my UXe.

  11. I'm very sad to hear your news, Anthony, and wish you all the best as you move on. You gave me a lot of help and advice when I first joined this forum and I'm particularly sorry not to have managed to meet you in person—the distance was always a problem, given my own health problems. Good luck, my friend!

  12. I have found No Warranty to be fairly common in dealer sales at that sort of age and value. Not a universal thing though. However, the dealer in this case seems to be pretty underwhelming across the board in their description and terms. We wouldn't be human if we were not left wondering about that.

  14. That's about right in my experience and I've bought a lot of stuff from Amayama, but as Steve says it depends on availability and how long it takes for them to get the stuff to their warehouse. As far as I know - they don't stock the parts themselves, some stuff they may have in stock but in general they don't. The part you are after - 45504-59025 I think - is £42.29 plus £22.36 shipping cost so £65 in total and I don't think you will incur any duty/import/admin costs. I normally buy other smaller bits at the same time, small trim pieces, clips, fixings etc that are missing or damaged or you will probably need in the future. The best value bits to order at the same time from Amayama is stuff like in the examples below: 4945-50012 - SHIM KIT, ANTI SQUEAL, FRONT - £12.96 compared to UK LPD price of £75.85 - rears are similar 47773-50030 - RETAINER, PAD WEAR INDICATOR - front - just a little clip...... - £1.00 compared to UK LPD price of ................ £14.00 You have to stop yourself getting carried away but being sensible and spending a few more quid on smaller bits won't increase the carriage by much, and maybe not at all depending on what you buy.

  15. Sorry to hear of your utter disaster .. I've had and driven Ls400s for decades and they are simply Old fashioned, and utterly reliable, quick and fast and capacious and immensely comfortable and cost very little to buy, maintain etc Don't give up on Lexus, just buy the " right one " Good luck Malc

  17. I have got into the habit of turning the key off whenever I lock the car. I also keep the key in a Faraday box at home - in case I have failed to turn the key off, plus it is convenient to know where my keys are. A Faraday box is much more robust than a Faraday pouch, which wears out with frequent use.

  18. Lexus are probably right it will “go away” in time. I bought my first Lexus in 1993 and sold my last in 2024. …. now I’ve “gone away” as well, with Lexus missing out on service revenue, new sale profits, resale profits and finance profits.

  19. That looks to me as if stone chips as well. The white is most probably where the lacquer has been 'punctured'. Get some colour coded T- cut to fill the chips (even black would be ok). Power washing is OK, but only as a rinse.
    1 point
  20. Those look like stone chips. Fairly common on all cars in the front. Especially if driven a lot on the motorway. You can buy touch up paint from ebay or lexus and touch them in. I have similar marks on the front bumper they're way too many so i touched up the obvious ones ignored the ones that cant be seen from a distance or that are not on a metal surface

  21. I'd suggest hand washing the car rather than jet washing.

  22. Depending on your mileage & what sort of roads your car is primarily used for to be fair, that doesn't look too bad the only the reason its obvious is because it's on a darker colour after a good wash I doubt a brush would do that (more likeky to get swirl marks with a brush) I'm sure mine have these stone chips too but its not so obvious with mine being white. Looks like stone chips a respray job is your best option if its just the bumper & then perhaps get the clear protection film applied if your planning on keeping it. If your feeling brave a fine brush to touch it up with matching paint stick, but if it goes wrong it will look terrible. Personally I wouldn't chance it on an expensive motor do it right. P.S you could try a dark Polish/compound but it will return after a few washes. I have used poorboys Polish before now & achieved good results. Let somebody more experienced with detailing add their input. Poorboys Black Hole 473ml https://amzn.eu/d/08zMYb6l

  24. Just a quick note to all who helped make yesterday, esp Uan, at the Bear such a pleasant experience. Thanks to all who welcomed me into the community and fed me with inspiration and knowledgable and experienced advice. Sad not to sell my car, but is that such a bad thing? Have sent a pic of my patchy roof panel to a local panel wrapper for a quote.

  25. Have you driven a Lexus hybrid Mark? I only ask as there have been a few posts on this forum were potential owners of the hybrid cars stated they were put off by the CVT gearbox as they did not like the increased engine 'noise' under acceleration (which incidentally returns to near silent once your required speed has been attained). This is due to the fact that as it's singled geared it stays at the required engine RPM until the required speed has been achieved. I cannot compare like with like so to speak but I have has two ES 300h F Sports (and a brand new Takumi) as courtesy cars and in my opinion the V6 in my GS 450h is far more refined than the 4 cylinder in the ES 300h, the same engine that powers the GS 300h. Again only my opinion.

  26. I had my UX250h for three and a half years - and only in that final year did I set up the app. I didn't get shown how to do it and if I've got to be honest, I found it more of a gimmick than anything of actual use for me! The dealer set it up on day one with my NX350h that replaced my UX, but lets just say...it's reliability is 'below average' at best. Indeed, it shows various doors unlocked at random times when they're not and the biggest one is the remote climate very rarely works. There's no pattern to it. The home screen which shows the car, the milage and fuel level is about the only part of it which appears to be reliable!

  27. I believe your dealer could order a printed manual for you, if you ask, and they know how to do it. Otherwise £50 via Lexus Parts Direct would also get you one: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-owners-manual/

  28. Download it and print it? BTW the car looks really muscular from that angle like it

  29. you can download the pdf, which then makes it far easier to search for something.

  30. Don't think you will get a hard copy owners manual. As someone who has enjoyed my whole career in the Printing Industry its sad that printed manuals don't come as standard.

  31. So, it's fair to say that The Duchess was in a sorry looking state when I went to bring her back from storage. Although it was very secure, it was in the open air and four months sitting in salt-laden mists rolling in off the Dee Estuary, coupled with a crack squadron of Welsh seagulls using her for precision bombing practice had taken their toll. She was back on the road from yesterday, so the first order of business was a trip to the valeter's. I was pleasantly surprised at the result. You will remember me posting about the manky wheels? Well, we can probably downgrade that to "A bit tatty". I'm still going to get them refurbed, but they look nowhere near as bad as the photos I posted a week or so ago. I think she scrubs up quite well, for an old girl...

  32. The black 'Inspiration' model (2023 only IIRC) came with the carbon spoiler on the back end as standard. The only options on the Inspiration was the seat colour (black or red). And yes, I prefer the black :) (See Lexus Model over there <-<-<-<-) :-)

  33. When I first saw a pic of this model I thought they were a bit too aggressive/muscly for my taste. Think i am changing my mind on that issue. Why does one have a picnic table on the back and the other doesn't.? Is that some kind of option at purchase? Not being derogatory there. That's just what we grew up calling those rear spoliers. Not immediate, but I think I would like to test drive the LC at some point. In the future I will offload the XK I picked up when the novelty value wears off and perhaps the LC might be a replacement IF the quality level was still inline with what I have on my SC. For sure the Lexus has that over the Jaguar everywhere you look. I would take Black over White all day long.

  34. Did you try setting each window by going to the individual door, pressing the switch down until the window is stopped & holding it for a second, then holding it up until the window fully closes & then hold for a second? Flat batteries can mean you have to set the power windows again & thr master switch base won't work until they are set.

  35. I've tested my key fob to see if it goes to sleep after a certain time when the fob is stationary. I locked the doors and put the fob on the floor next to the driver's door. I tried the door after 1 minute and it opened. I did the same sequence again and after 2 minutes and the door still opened. However after a period of 4 minutes the door wouldn't open, but as soon as I moved the fob a few inches on the floor the door could be opened again. I don't feel the need for a Faraday pouch or manually turning off the fob signal for my 2023 NX450h unless I wanted belt and braces. I don't know for which model year this fob auto shut-off was introduced. But you can try it for yourselves if your interested.

  36. It's been months already and honestly this is getting ridiculous. For me, it's time to make a statement ourselves, otherwise, Lexus might never do anything about it. Therefore I recommend we all register interest: https://www.leighday.co.uk/forms/toyota-and-lexus-can-invader-registration-of-interest/

  38. Sadly, after owning six Lexus models I decided to leave the mark. I got a standard response to my email to customer relations so decided it was over. Good luck to everyone trying to get through to them. Anyone contacted Watchdog journalists to point out Lexus have reduced the response they made during the program?

  39. If your like me, the best part about owning a Lexus is the nice toys and technology that Lexus offer. I've recently swapped my IS220D SE-L for a IS250 SE, The SE-L was fitted with the illuminated door sills that light up "Lexus" when you open the doors, a really nice feature which should be standard in my opinion. Unfortunately my 250 SE only had the basic plastic sills that look a bit cheap on a Luxury car so i pulled off the plastic ones to find that the cars are fitted as standard with the plug for the illuminated sills, so I thought I could just buy the illuminated sills and plug them in. Unfortunately it turned out that this is not the case, all the cars do indeed have the plug however the plug is only wired in on the Luxury and sports spec models, to get around this problem you need to do some basic home wiring which I will show you now. Please note: I take no responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle while following this guide. For this modification you will need the following: 1-2M of Auto Wire 4x Scotch Locks A Pair of Bull Nose Pliers A Pair of Snips Stanley Knife/Craft knife Step 1: Remove the existing door sills to reveal the wiring loom underneath ( A bit of brute force pulling straight up will remove the sills) Step 2: Using a Stanley Knife or Craft knife, carefully cut away the electrical tape that covers the wires that go into the door sill connector (Be particularly careful not to cut into any wires in the loom). Step 3: Take your Auto Wire and 1 scotch lock and Scotch lock your auto wire and the White wire going into the Door Sill Connector together (Leave the blue wire as it is). Step 4: Remove the interior trim that covers the seat belt tensioner system (to aid this process put the seat in the fully back position and the backrest all the way back, and open the rear door. Again some force will release the clips holding the panel on). Step 5: Locate the wire that connects to the Door switch, it sits on the inside of the pillar behind the switch. (A White Wire on the drivers side and Purple on the Passengers side, shown in the image above). Step 6: Trace your auto wire around the current loom to reach the Door Switch wire behind the seat belt panel. (when doing this ensure that your auto wire cannot rub on the seat belt as it moves back and forth during use). Step 7: Take a Scotch lock and scotch lock the Door Switch wire and auto wire together (Ensure you don't short out the wire on the vehicle's body work while using metal tools. I also wrapped some electrical tape around the scotch lock to ensure nothing metal would contact the bodywork in the future). Step 8: Plug in your illuminated door sills to ensure they are working correctly, when you push the Door switch the Sills should shut off and then light up when the switch is released. (If your Sills don't light up please check to see if you have your interior light switch set to come on when the doors open). Step 9: When you are happy that everything is working correctly, push the interior trim panels back into place. Some pressure on the areas should clip everything back in to place. Finished Product. I hope this guide was helpful, if i've missed anything or you have any questions please post here and I will endeavour to help the best I can.

  42. Very useful indeed. I did read the manuals a year ago but retaining 2x1000 pages is beyond me and the manuals on my iPad were locked in the car. Pity the Lexus guys had not remembered them either. Certainly that protocol was not followed. Will try to check it out when/if I get off this ferry. i also had more fun last night trying to lock the car. Key had fallen under seat and I just got messages that door was open, not a key was in the car. When I finally removed the key, it still complained that windows and moon roof were open. I had to open them shut each of them to enable the locks to work.
