Protected my Lexus today by buying a second car! The Mrs is getting a puppy next week and I was freaking out at the idea of a dog being in my beloved Lexus - hence I was inspired to purchase a cheap 'dog car'. The new car allegedly gets 60 MPG too so hopefully that will incentivise me to drive the LS less as I've done over 7000 mile since I got it in November and that's with no daily commute to work; I just love driving it!2 points

Not wholly relevant but here goes John - I’m old enough to have worked during the very strong unions in the ‘70’s and labour taxation. Once bitten …… I have been mulling over equity relief and when Labour get in will probably take as much as I can as I am sure Labour will tax equity release as unearned income. I really do hope I’m wrong, but with so many young Labour MP’s viewing us old ones as having handed on a plate they won’t be able to resist it. This I think, is why Hunt yesterday challenged Labour to deny they are going to tax property as capital gains tax - if this gets out it may have the same effect as when May’s votes plummeted after the ‘rob your house for care costs’ election !2 points

I did also look at an X3 and very nearly bought one when my Lexus continually got delayed ( by 6 months). The 3 year warranty on most German cars annoys me. German reliability etc. etc. yet they will only give 3 years. It the Lexus is totally reliable with no major issues then we have possibly made the correct decision. Only time will tell 😀2 points

Hi Charlie, I replaced my rad just a few weeks ago with a proper Lexus product having been advised by my mechanic that other 'less expensive' options (eg. starline, even nissens) may not be a proper fit & sometimes have to be adapted, however slightly. There's also the ongoing warranty issue. Don't forget that old saying "if you buy cheap you buy twice" so if your car's a 'keeper' and worth looking after then I suggest it's also worth the extra spend on a quality rad. Your choice. 😉2 points

I previously owned a Lexus RX450h (fourth generation) which was an absolutely wonderful car in every respect. The car was very refined, very comfortable and easy to drive, and considering the size of the vehicle was quite economical. There are only two of us in the household and we are both in our late sixties, the main problem with the RX 450H was parking as it quite a large car. We both made a decision to downsize, so we visited the local dealership and went for a test drive in a UX250H sport Design. After the test test drive we were both impressed with the car and decided to purchase a new model that had been in the showroom. We were able to secure a very good discount on the vehicle as it was the older model, the new UX300H was just about to be launched. Having owned the vehicle for just over two months now I am really impressed with car, the vehicle is very manoeuvrable, and provides comfortable seating for the driver and passenger. My UX has Faux leather seats which I find to be quite acceptable, they seem to be harder wearing than leather and are very comfortable even on longer journeys. My only criticism with the vehicle is the road noise transmitted through the car via the run flat tyres, particularly when travelling over rough road surfaces. The tyres I have on the vehicle are Bridgestone's (probably not the best for road noise). We recently travelled to Devon in the car which was a round trip of 380 miles, throughout the trip the car performed flawlessly. We found that the boot size was adequate for two people, we could comfortably fit a large suitcase and other baggage in the luggage compartment (we have the TWD version). Whilst travelling on the motorway I could see that the vehicle was switching between ICE and battery power even at speeds of 60MPH, to my surprise the at end of the journey the car had averaged 62MPG which is outstanding. The vehicle was showing 490miles since the last refuel, and the low fuel warning light was not even showing. I have the Lexus Link App which gave me the following trip information since the car was refuelled : Trip Distance - 476 miles MPG - 62 MPG EV - Distance Driven - 120 miles I intend to keep this car for a long period of time, I think that hybrid vehicles still have a long future.1 point

Lol. See what you did there! I almost bought a Volvo V40 or a Saab 95, but given my daughter is turning 17 later this year, I thought I'd buy something I can hand over to her and that she'd have a chance of being able to insure. Ended up with a Chevrolet Aveo - never heard of one before but it ticked all the boxes...1 point

No such thing as a normal RCF, they’re all immaculate and driven but persons of impeccable taste! can’t remember of the top of my head but I think it was 2017/18 that the updated infotainment was adopted and the packages changed a bit to ‘plus’ etc.1 point

Work may get in the way yet but I said 'yes' to going. Haven't decided if I will do both days but I think some might benefit from my fault code reader / resetting tools so should make the effort really. Took the car to work today as the sun was out this morning, it still looks a bit tatty despite having the front wing and bumper repaired and painted. Rear spoiler was once very smooth but now it looks lumpy....the joys of fibreglass and filler.🙄1 point

I really hope you’re right but the younger MP’s won’t necessarily be thinking about 5 years time. You only have to look at Labour in Wales - reduced the speed limit to 20mph (no doubt thinking it would impress the Greens and young climate warriors), according to the BBC at a cost of £ 33m, then grown ups got involved and it has been scrapped.1 point

MPG in HV only mode: I wanted to know what MPG my RX450h+ was achieving when using petrol only. So rather than attempt some devious calculations, I decided to actually measure it! So during a week away from home I ran the car in EV mode until the battery was depleted and it switched permanently to HV mode. I then topped it up with petrol and zero'd the mileage trip. I then drove 189.2 miles on non-motorway South Devon roads and again topped it up with 19.6 litres of fuel. If my calculations are correct, this gives a figure of 43.9 mpg. During this period I did not charge the battery. Not bad! Tom1 point

Apologies for the "Carry on" double entendre style remarks. I just couldn't resist it. I think we should be talking about hairline?? So the old joke goes - --- -- Like the bald sales chap that turned up at the door and my son answered and shouted " Dad! - There's a man at the door with a bald head. "Tell him I've already got one" I said.😭1 point

I received my reminder yesterday and unless yours is different to mine, the red writing actually says - From 1 April 2025, vehicle tax rates will change for electric vehicles and low emissions cars. Link to the Gov UK info on this - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vehicle-tax-for-electric-and-low-emissions-vehicles#:~:text=From 1 April 2025%2C drivers, pay a fairer tax contribution. It all looks a bit ominous for all of us🤨1 point

My experience after buying and RX450H+ in March 2024. After the first week I spent 3 hours cleaning it as you do. In and of doors. Doors open. Boot open playing with the screen and settings. Only to find I could not start the car later. I had to call the AA from the Lexus windscreen number. The guy got me going and all was well other than embarrassing on a new car thinking all the neighbours are watching. Anyway. A week or so later I had the ghost immobiliser fitted. Same again he had to jump start the car after fitting as battery dead. A few days later I cleaned car again but thought, don't leave doors open just wipe what's needed and shut each door after. Spent only one hour cleaning. Got ready to got out to lunch with the wife in new shiny car.... Flat. AA out again. Took 4 hours. Wife wasn't happy. Started looking on utube for the problem. Came across a guy in America with an NX "LFST" channel he has. He explains how the battery is charged and he bought a Bluetooth monitor to connect to the battery, that connects to an app on your phone. It shows you when the car is charging and even when it's not. Looks like the car decides when it wants to charge at times. I bought one of these Bluetooth monitors off ebay. £16 "Ancel BM200 Car Battery Monitor Bluetooth 12V Battery Tester for iPhone Androidand " it cleaned my anxiety of will the car start or not when I get in. I now clean the car in ready mode, in EV mode as well as this shows charging on the battery in the Bluetooth app, as its surprising how quick the battery can go down with the big screen on, Led lights in the doors and roof. I do mostly short journeys and the app shows that the battery can be around 40 to 60 % charged most times and soon drops when doors are left open too long. I did explain this to my local Lexus dealer after owning the car 3 weeks the problems we had with the battery and they did put me a new on one. They said " Do I do short journeys?". I did agree to them I did. They suggested taking a longer journey from work now and again to add charge in the battery. But now I have the bluetooth app it tells you when its low or what charge it is when your near the car so I can start the car in ready mode and see it charging to a comfortable percentage. Hope this helps as it was a very stressful time.1 point

Just paid £404 for 6 months. Ever get the feeling that you have been robbed? I did. I can't see living standards improving any time soon. Just to cheer myself up I am going back to the hairy crack post on this forum.🤪1 point

I wouldn't bank on a Labour Government not raising taxes on ev's. They have got to get money from somewhere and my long experiences of Labour in power suggests they are very good at finding more inventive ways of taxing you. My DB pension is proof of that!1 point

The dongle is made by AAWireless. They sell direct and I think at one stage we're available on Amazon. It worked straight out of the box and has continued to work ever since.Quite a number of other members here report similar results. I found Carlinkit to be a complete shambles, with poor quality goods and even worse customer "service".Others on here have had similar problems with them...avoid them like the plague.1 point

£660 is the standard price for a GS full service (every second year): https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/servicing-mot-hybrid-health-check Going two months early is essential costing you an extra £110 (2/12th’s of the service cost)… bargain for a year’s warranty!1 point

The problem is that it won't stop them doing nearly 4K worth of damage trying to steel it. Thy pull back the bumper on the LC as there is not enough room to get in through the wheel arch.1 point

My neighbour who currently owns a 3 year old top of the range BMW, ordered a brand new top of the range RX450 earlier this week. Got home, contacted his insurance broker, quoted £7,000 for insurance. Rang the dealer and cancelled the order! Where will it all end?0 points
