My 04 ls430 had some paint issues on the right roof edge and down to the right rear wing that looked like it had been etched. There were some other areas as well so I had my local garage who I have a good relation with repaint the whole car. I suppose after 20 years it should be expected. I'm very pleased with the result but need to get new bumper chrome strips as they are ageing badly.2 points

Welcome aboard Sam Concerning the bonnet struts, yes 2 are needed. If you order aftermarket struts make sure that they have the ball that bolts into the car at either end if those are missing from yours. Some come with the balls and others don't. If yours still has the balls fitted then you just need the strut. These have the balls https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196260124651 and these don't https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183390158334 I fitted some aftermarket ones in 2019 (can't find the link) and they still work fine several years later.2 points

Roads in Spain are still incredibly undulating and the curves on the motorways are sometimes a bit tight at speed. Very glad I had all new shocks beforehand. Another longish stint today to reach France.2 points

When I purchased a used yellow car - “these are very rare, we can’t give you any discount” When I sold it - “there isn’t much demand for this colour hence a lower trade in price compared to book value”2 points

Did they state how they are getting locked in their cars? I’ve been locked in my NX450h on 2 occasions and both were my mis-doing, nothing to do with Lexus. It happened when I left the door open whilst installing a dashcam. Upon closing the doors whilst inside the car went into self protect mode and locked itself with me inside. I escaped by climbing into the boot area and using the manual boot release. I since discovered that it was the low capacity 12V battery depleting due to leaving doors open for a (smallish) amount of time and that it is covered in the manual, had I bothered to read it. Lexus clearly state to put the car into “ready” mode when leaving the doors open for such work due to the small low capacity of the 12months battery fitted. Maybe the facebook users also didn’t read the manual 🤔1 point

Just had a quote on a low miles RX4, a few years old. £548 fully comp, including breakdown, windscreen, key, legal and personal injury cover, legal fees and a few other benefits, sdp plus business use, £650 excess for £548 anually. That doesn't seem out of the way.1 point

My son in law resprays elderly cars professionally …… he’s being doing it for decades …… and asks me “ what can you expect at this age “ It’s quite normal and generally expected he advises on such aged original bodywork Cest le vie What I do know is the moment I spend £££££ on expensive bodywork issues there’ll be some almighty wallop to undo the good ……. not sure I want to tempt providence tbh 🤔 Malc1 point

Yes, there's definitely a manual lever for door opening. It begs the question "why add a button on the inside and not just have egress via the conventional lever?". Unnecessary "farkles". Personally, and it is a personal thing, I think that interior quality compared with the solidity of early marques, is dropping off and I don't like the reliance on touch screens and electronic tech for the sake of it. The best compromise imho of functionality and tech was possibly the RX4 which also suffers with a fewer less annoying rattles than the previous generation. Even better, my older V6 GS300 had a plethora of buttons, all within easy reach, all well marked and still working perfectly after 10 years abuse. Interior build was also exemplary, more Bentley-like with lovely quality touches.1 point

I tried negotiating down the forecourt price of a 2022 RX4 which was on at top dollar price, but the dealership wouldn't budge an inch and was clueless about affects on value recognised by non franchised dealerships on value of used RX4's. Here's an example. Both 2022 models, one a Takumi (non franchised) and one an F-sport (Takumi pack) from a franchised dealer. The Takumi was immaculate, only 10K miles and was on for £36K with mine close on 17K part ex as an offer. The F-sport had 14K miles and the franchised dealer wanted 6K more and offered less for mine. I was astonished at the reluctance or ignorance about insurance premium hikes and canbus vulnerability hitting used values by the Lexus dealership. I told them that. They, I believe, will discuss it with their tech team and come back to me with a better offer. It's a buyers market and no RX4 is currently worth top book value as whole life costs are so badly hit by the vulnerabilities. Anyone wanting to buy one and run it for at least 5 years is advised to bargain hard or look elsewhere as great offers exist...just not with Lexus dealerships it seems.1 point

The part number for the rear pollen filter is 88508-30110 and it looks like Autodoc has a few aftermarket options from around £20. I don't think mine has ever been changed but still looked really clean when I inspected it. I only change the front pollen filter at service time.1 point

Bonnet supports refer on one of my earlier Ls400s decades back, I simply used a broom stick …… it works …… only other option 20 years back was Lexus Main Dealer at silly money even in those halcyon days 😄 And in all honesty how often does one really need to open the bonnet on these cars …… top up the screen wash and annual servicing 😇 Malc1 point

This looks like the best solution. I’ve just tried talking to the car and none of “select sports mode”, “select driving mode sports”, “select driving mode” worked might just be my Berkshire twang though 😉. I also tried using the paddles but as AWC says they only change the virtual gears, and then only when S has been selected on the “gearstick”.1 point
-
Hi I have found that you can customise the steering wheel buttons, so for example, one could be for Sport mode and one for Eco. See this link - about 7.5mins in.1 point
-
After some thought I realised it's not going to work on the RX, the paddles are used to control the E-CVT ratio. The RZ has a single speed automatic transmission as there's no petrol engine so Lexus added the regeneration control so the paddles could be retained in the RZ. Alex.1 point

Since I went past 70 my premiums have increased significantly. Last year my NX 450h LV policy cost £530, and I know that will double this year with LV (due mid June). I've been on all comparison sites and best price is with Sterling (broker using ABC insurance underwriters who are part of LV) £887. I have max no claims no accidents and haven't moved address. I'm just another year older. I have an Aviva house insurance policy and requested a car quote from them online, but they said they weren't able to quote me. I just have to suck up the insurance increases (and £590 a year road tax) or downsize the car to something like a Yaris lol.1 point

Forget the diesel as its not ULEZ compliant. The 250 is extremely reliable so mileage is almost irrelevant. Buy on condition/history. I'm into my 8th year of ownership and outside of normal servicing costs and brakes/tyres, I've only had to pay for 2 front wheel bearings.1 point
-
Hey dude, I'm around Brum too. I've had multiple IS250s over the years. Keep going back to them after I make a bad financial decision like JZX100, 300ZX etc.🤣 They are very reliable, and running cost is low too on a grand scheme of things. It doesn't matter what year you go for really, but given your budget you'll be looking at pre-facelift cars (2005-2008) but the changes on facelift were negligible anyway. Send me a message and I'll be happy to help you look for a car. As for what you can expect for 3k.. I would say cars around 100k miles. Don't be put off the mileage as these cars are good for 300k with regular maintenance that involves just fresh oil every 5000 miles. I would look for cars with a good service history. I wouldn't be bothered about bodywork as much because panels are cheap. They are easy to work on. Here's mine.1 point

….Wilson, my next door neighbour has asked, again, what is my call sign for The Blackbird (SR-71) ? I think you all know the answer, yes? do I really need to spell it out for you ? you all guessed, right : ………………chipmunk 71 ! ! 😃 🙄. have to be brief, now, time is running out. Malcolm, we know, has 3 car’s. on the surface I have one car + one hobby aircraft. or do I ? I have been known to fib, sometime’s 😲 actually I do own a restored ( by me ) classic all-terrain vehicle. world - wide it is universally known there is Only One a/t vehicle of a total of 489 ever built that remain’s operational - that vehicle ( No 133) is in a museum in Bovingdon, Dorset. Gang, this is for your 👀 eye’s only ! do keep this to yourself - if word get’s out I will be overwhelmed with global interest !! 😲 I actually own, the most feared a/t vehicle by the Allie’s in WW2 - a late model (like my year 2000 Lexus LS 400) 1944 German Royal King Tiger 2 (No 23) heavy battle tank - fully working and in better condition than the museum example !! had it recovered from a Bavarian Forest and covertly transported, by the AA, to Scotland 10 year’s ago ! here is a picture : ( me in the turret and Karl driving, a descendant of Kurt Knispel, No 1 German WW2 tank ace - his bio copy state’s ‘rebellious personality and defiant attitude’ - remind you of someone ? ) 😲. run out of copy, run out of time - a tale to tell you, another day, maybe……………….🙁. anthony1 point

The thing is not so much on what you pay - this is so variable on your age, your post code, miles driven, which NX model, vol excesses, hire car if off road etc etc etc that you could get a hundred replies and all will be different. My advice is look to see which insurers have a good reputation in the event of a claim - you may pay a bit extra but worth the piece of mind. i am with Aviva and just renewed at end of April - big increase to over £500, but a check on the comparison website and it was towards the top but not overly so1 point
-
I'm with Aviva online at present Ronnie. Paid £348 last year on the NX450h+ (Aviva Premium). Looks like its going to be double that on the RX450h+😭. Increasing the voluntary excess will help to reduce this. Interestingly I got a quote for the NX and it was even dearer than the RX!1 point

Hi John, If you have access to the multimedia manual (and have the patience to read all the details!) then from page 61 appears to describe what you would like. However given the issues other owners have had with registering profiles you may need to take your keys, wife, mobile phones with Lexus Link+ installed and get the dealer to do it… Good luck 😉1 point

Two weeks shouldn’t be a problem on a healthy battery, although it would have discharged the battery to a point where it would start to damage it and therefore the capacity may have been diminished. Three weeks is when you start to run into problems.1 point
-
Leaving it to become a problem invites the problem really. All it takes is a simple two step process. 1. Have the rust brushed off with all loose particles and rust removed with a brass brush. 2. Have a Lanoguard specialist absolutely coat the thing in Lano. They get to everything, especially where normally inaccessible for DIYers. I did an old Rav 4 and it stayed fresh through several winters without any reapplication needed and kept it nice and rust free. Did my RX now twice and parts of the underside still look brand new after 10 years. Avoid anything like the old fashioned waxoils which eventually harden, crack, let moisture in and hide the rust which eventually eats away the steel. Lanoguard is made and supplied by a small family business in the UK and has been so successful it's now sold world wide. It's made by processing waste products of the wool industry (chiefly Lanolin). It can be applied to everything bar brakes, won't harm plastics or rubber and won't catch fire if the exhaust gets some on it. It's a natural product and non harmful and even good as a moisturiser! The great thing about it, is it dries to form a non-sticky or gunky extremely durable layer which prevents corrosion and very hard to remove unless you use repeated high pressure washes with strong detergent. Overlanders in New Zealand and Australia swear by the stuff, especially those living in coastal areas. I do my bikes and cars myself at home and apply liberally with a paintbrush to every part I can access but for most cars you're better off having access to a ramp and spray apply it. It's around £60/litre but that will do two cars easily. The specialists offer better coverage for a reasonable price and if you want peace of mind, this is the product to go for.1 point

….ok guy’s, my time here is now limited and my copy duly restricted - the car will likely be sold tomorrow ( Monday) which, of course, as Frankie-baby once said mean’s I will face The Final Curtain and, sadly, this site will be wiped ( we could have made that million View’s, given time ! 🙄 ). yes, hand’s up - I confess, I have endeavoured to break every rule in your t&c book - because that is what I do and what I have done for 60+ year’s ! 😲. rule’s are written to be broken, no ? rebel, mould breaking, the First ? do refer previous post’s….. I cannot believe some of my latter post’s are still standing - thank you, so much 🙂. fear not, Gang, your Leader will be back - soon ! anthony1 point

I am with Aviva online and when I got my car last September there was no extra to pay going from a HONDA HRV (£240). So when my renewal was up in February and especially reading a lot on the forum how much people was getting quoted I thought it was going to go up substantially. Got my renewal and it was £340 in February, last month I got an email saying that my renewal was incorrect and I thought it was going to go up but it went down to £337.1 point

Bring back Starting Handles ! Reduce the damnable electronicory on cars that drains ‘em Change the Law so’s fresh owners of cars have the same rights at law as the original owner / new battery purchaser That'll make ‘em produce better quality fit for purpose batteries ……. whoever the manufacturer 🤔 None of this is ever likely tho’ ….. is it ? That is why I would recommend staying away from Yuasa batteries, I have seen some people praising them, but I have now had 3 of them in second hand vehicles and they all died prematurely (before even 4 year warranty, I just couldn't use it as I wasn't the original buyer and didn't have the receipt). In my case they all seem to short internally somehow and drain themselves from the charge, so it is kind of slow drain, but if you leave the car for a week it barely starts. For me Vatra/Bosch S4 (seems to be same thing just different branding). Maybe we just don't drive them as much + older cars develop some electrical issues... not necessary faults, but combination of weaker and older alternator, with electrical system which is not as new and efficient, with shorter journeys less often, perhaps results in battery not being charged as much? Shouldn't be 8v, but I have seen them dropping to just under 12v which is barely enough to start the car (although that was with dreaded Yuasa batteries).1 point

Yup, parents you can't live with them and you (fill in the blanks as to your particular viewpoint on them). I was actually at the enlistment office clutching my birth certificate in my hand for the first time in my life before knew I had spent 18 years celebrating the wrong birth date ! In truth it is now and forever going to be unknown as to which day is the correct one 13th or 14th May ! Taking the upside approach I have felt it reasonable for the last 50 ish years to celebrate twice as compensation for the mental anguish suffered in not knowing my real point of origin (sic)1 point

Hugh hi. Chill and ENJOY eh ! 😇 Malc1 point

At the time of purchase, the F-Sport was quite an outlay for us because it was top of the range with most option boxes ticked. It's funny but 8 years on, I'm still quite precious about scratching it try to avoid supermarket car parks unless I can find a remote space. Our other car is covered in battle scars from utterly selfish, entitled people who have flung doors open on it and run shopping trollies into it. Some people don't care. I have one paintwork thumbnail sized mark on the Lexus, where someone keyed the driver door, and after using a the supplied paintwork touch up paint and lacquer, it's not that noticeable. We'll probably do the same. Keep it for another 5 years then it owes us nothing much. Means buying close to new will be out of our reach but by then, there'll possibly be something cheaper that'll be within means. You're dead right about the V6. It may not have the punch of the noisier IL4 + hybrid, but it's smoother and quieter. One of the best engines Toyota/Lexus ever made and seen in rugged and reliable vehicles worldwide from pick-ups to luxury SUVs. Owners ov V6 Camry's think the same1 point

This may seem sensible in that you’re not wasting your initial investment, but it does mean that your rear camera only works when the ignition is on. What makes you think that your stationary car is unlikely to be hit in the rear, when the camera’s off, as opposed to the front when the cameras on? What is more likely when you’ve parked it in a supermarket car park? Also cameras are motion-sensitive and can be activated by cars/people approaching - thus picking up anyone trying to enter the car. Paying a little extra for a dual-camera system may seem an extravagance now, but it only has to back up one insurance claim to pay for itself. And I speak from personal experience!1 point
