  1. Good morning Guys. I thought I would just give a quick update on this thread. My scheduled time off from work got cancelled and the sensor was failing to register at all on the system so I just went to my local tyre and exhaust place and asked if they could fix it for me. They checked all the batteries in all the tyres with some bit of witchcraft and established that four of the five batteries were still "In the green" but the one which stopped working "Wasn't even showing up in the red". They replaced the offending sensor and now the car is back to normal. The total cost was £80 which, although is a chunk of change, is not too bad. Happy days. Take care. Steve.

  2. Hi mate, I have a LS600h as well and can tell you the sound is because of a timing chain tensioner issue. I have attached the TSB from Toyota on the issue but be advised that in order to fix this issue outside warranty is 20 book hours excluding parts. Your engine will not be blowing up and I don’t expect the issue to cause issues for the near future, the issue is covered in depth in this video. The LS600h has the 2UR-FSE however the design is the same as the 3UR-FE hence the same issue with the timing chain tensioner. Hope this helps. We should really make a sticky with all the common issues as another issue is the valley plate coolant leak which affects the Toyota V8’s as well. EG-0031L-0516.pdf

  3. Hi Kathy and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Sorry I had to laugh at your post. Good of you to admit you were whinging. The plastic trim above the window is probably a wind deflector. Necessary on some cars when the windows are open slightly. Yes I was an advocate of two reversing and two rear fog lights. I do still stand for two rear fog lights however. The fog on the M62 between jncs 22 and 24 demands two rear fog lights. It bothers me seeing cars with only one fog light and most of them are so bright that they dazzle!!! Two medium powered rear fog lights are much more safely visible and without being dazzling. I'm.a professional driver and do most of my driving at night so I know what I'm talking about.

  4. Delighted to report that I have just had fitted a s/h rear windscreen. Didn't want to raise my hopes until it was "in situ". My thanks to Paul Frost who suggested that there may be one on Facebook Marketplace. Found an ad which had been on for 24 weeks and the guy was just about to smash the rear screen as he wanted to use the body for stock car racing. Just in time and he offered to take it out of the remains of the Car. It was soemthing I couldn't do. Also my friend wo collected my Lexus from France a couple of years back also lived in Northampton and agreed to collect it and bring it down to Essex. Today it has been fitted. It has a glass mark Toyota Automotive Temperlite. Saved th old Girl from the Knackers Yard.

  5. The new NX's ive seen this week all had 2 fog lamps in the bumper & 2 reverse lamps in the clusters. UK spec hybrid & phv, dont get the non hybrid NX in the uk so dont know. uk spec Landcruisers have 2 fogs for sure. I wouldnt worry about something I never see, I can count on 1 hand the amount of times ive ever needed to turn on the rear fog lamps (ie - when theres actually hardly any visibility, not just cause theres a little mist in the air like a lot of people seem to do) in 23 years of driving. No idea if my car has 2 reversing lights or not, just know that it lights up the area behind the car just fine.

  6. Depends who it is. Bigger dealers will either do what yours did or take it and send it to the auctions. Smaller dealers will keep it on their lot.

  7. Hi It was mentioned earlier in the thread to buy a mechanics stethoscope. This is a really good suggestion. When I previously worked as a mechanic, it was a really useful piece of equipment. It could save you a lot of time and make finding the issue easier. Screwfix for example has one (Silverline) for £9.29.

  9. I was poking around getting an idea for what I wanted to swap out my '15 Suzuki Swift Sport for and once again came round to the idea of a CT. Plenty of looked after cars around at reasonable prices and then accidentally came across a very nice dealer car. High end of the prices but well worth it. One 550mile round trip later and I got myself a very tidy 1 owner car. 2020 F-Sport in Deep Blue with black leather and 12k on the clocks Tech, Convenience, and Leather packs Premium Nav and 10 speaker Fresh full service and MOT Catloc fitted by the dealer when they took it in. Full tank of fuel (they accidentally filled it) I hadn't driven one of these since my days valet parking some 7 years ago and the salesman was quite surprised I still knew where every switch and fiddly bit was and more so that I was quite happy just to get in it and go without any sort of test drive. Feels built like an absolute tank and incredibly comfortable for the ride home. I got around 56mpg on the way home with the aircon on and doing 70mph. That used to be diesel territory on a good day. And 10mpg more than my previous car on the trip up. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up with my normal commute driving.

  10. No 2L Corolla's locally when I started looking, but have found 2 this evening, both in GR Sport trim. Will travel tomorrow to look at one of them, and if OK then I think that's the deal. I was briefly distracted by a 2020 Alfa Giulia 280 veloce for the same monthly payments...but nearest dealer is 150 miles away and off my commute. I was a huge Alfa fan growing up in the 80s, first 2 cars were suds......

  11. Can't comment on a lot of the other issues really as low milage drive, but normally average between 45 & 50mpg. Has enough power for me & stereo is fine. Good luck whatever you decide.

  14. The Advance only has the 6 speaker audio without separate amp or a sub - it lacks performance compared to the 8 speaker premium audio system on other grades with the advanced navigation option. Not sure how anyone could only get 40 mpg in an IS300h with 17" wheels on anything other than a very short journey or greatly exceeding the motorway speed limit so you should be able to achieve your requirement there. If you go for the Corolla, why not the 2.0l version as that is much nicer - the extra power means you don't have to rev it so much.

To summarise - Very outdated tech wise could be classed as boring to some - MPG at best 35-50MPG if driven sensibly mixed driving - Performance wise reasonable capable on motorway speeds - Inner tyre wear is common can get pricey if your a high mileage driver - Reliability cant be touched mechanically/hybrid system - One disadvantage with Lexus parts are expensive but on the positive they do last

Self-restoring coat The vehicle body has a self-restoring coating that is resistant to small surface scratches caused by a car wash, etc. The coating lasts for 5 to 8 years from when the vehicle is delivered from the plant. The restoration time differs depending on the depth of the scratch and outside temperature. The restoration time may become shorter when the coating is warmed by applying warm water. Deep scratches caused by keys, coins, etc., cannot be restored. Do not use waxes that contain abrasives.

  18. To be honest none of those were very surprising. If one really wants to secure their car then additional, purpose made immobiliser is the way. They get fitted into most difficult to access places and most of the thieves won't have time to figure out what it is and where it is. Sure - that does not prevent them from breaking into your car (wheel lock to be fair is one of best in terms of visual deterrents), but they most likely going to have to abandon it. If immobiliser is properly fitted then CANBUS attack shouldn't by pass it. But I agree with layered security approach - wheel lock should deter some thieves just on the basis that there is more than one security feature fitted into the car, so they can't simply rely on soft attack and doing it quietly like relay for keyless or CANBUS hack. Using angle grinder even for 3 minutes at night is definitely not what they want to do. Then even if some thieves going to be very determined, basically doing relay, getting into the car, already waking-up whole neighbourhood cutting/drilling the lock-out and THEN after all that car doesn't start and they need to spend extra 5 minutes finding where immobiliser is and how to bypass it... then they may give-up and run. The key issue in UK - thieves can actually afford to take time, they are not at risk to be caught by police, because police won't come even in 30 minutes and they are not at risk of owner doing anything because using any sorts of weapons to defend your property is illegal in UK. So unless owner turns out to be Bruce Lee (what are the chances of that), they can take their dear time to do whatever they want. So I think final step should always be a tracker. But... that said my solution is to drive 17 years old GS300 on the basis nobody will steal it. I just don't want to worry about my car being stolen and fitting 5 different systems to prevent it. I mean really - UK Police, please do your job, this is getting ridiculous! P.S. - I say "UK Police", but the issue is much wider, don't want to write whole essay, but it is issue with the laws themselves, CPS, Courts etc. So by "Police" I just mean entire justice system and enforcement from beginning to the end sucks.

  19. Can’t argue with facts like that! Frankly, a single fog light is potentially dangerous. Two confirms that the shadowy vehicle in front is probably a car; one will suggest to some drivers that it’s a motorcycle! If there was one area in which my IS250 disappointed it was the lighting. As I mentioned earlier, the reversing light was so poor that I replaced the bulb with a brighter LED version - but it should have been on the offside anyway!

  20. Dealers will take any car as a part ex if it means a sale. The mark-up on a car they put on covers the cost of a 'cheap' part ex. Sorry to learn of your loss Zorny. I feel your pain and my father's been gone 10 years now. Because you're selling the car I recommend you post some photos both external and interior. I'm sure even someone here would buy it.   22. Bearing in mind this Screen had been in a Farmyard with crud all over it, its come up very well. Not tried the Demister but continuity was checked. I cleaned the crud but the fitter took off all the bonding and it took him about an hour to fit. Looks like it has extra connection point to a line that goes nowhere?

  24. F sport has sportier bumpers, different front grille, better brakes?, nicer wheels & has the sport+ mode that the non f sport dont have? Theres "yamaha performance dampers" front & rear too that supposedly help handling. Its a matter of tastes.

This comment on the subject from the guy who collected a Rear Screen for me from Northampton and also brought my Lexus back from France a couple of years ago with LPG in his Range Rover " Shell stopped selling LPG a couple of years ago with the removal of LPG at 206 filling stations. They had a company, Autogas Ltd, that was a joint venture between Shell and Calor. The two of them had a falling out so the company was dissolved and all Shell stations were told that they could no longer supply LPG and to take the pumps out. Those owned by Shell themselves did just that but a few of the Shell branded franchises have carried on selling it as if Shell cannot supply they are free to go elsewhere. " He couldn't get filled up at Morrisons and nearest being Sudbury (40 miles)he was told that they had none as it was priority for consumer Gas bottles. Only advantage is that he has a Crit Air sticker Classe 1 for Paris and other French cities with LPG

  27. Suppliers seem to suggest a battery life of between 5 - 12 years, depending on use. So if these are the original fittings, then you’ve done pretty well.

  28. So, after driving back to France and getting acquainted with the SC here are some views, opinions, things to fix and general questions. Firstly I'm still working on the brake judder//pulsating problem I first encountered. After removing the 20mm wheel spacers and getting the wheels balanced and brakes inspected, the problem is better but not fixed as it still vibrates at lower speeds and not at all speeds. I have bought new discs, pads, ABS sensors and wheel bearings for each corner and am having them fit next week, not a small job and something I am unable to do myself so have entrusted my local mechanic to tackle (anybody know the torque spec, for the hub nut, 199NM I've heard). After a good clean and removing the boot trim I found water in the left and right lower areas near the rear wheel arches, given that the car had been stood under trees for the Winter and had been pressure washed to within an inch of it's life before the sale I'm of the opinion that it's not a leak per se. I have cleaned and treated the seals with Shin-Etsu, and completely dried the area and everything looks good so far. Other observations – after a quick burst on the non UK motorway at approx. 100 mph, I felt the back end was not very well planted when negotiating a sweeping curve, you know the scene, you're giving it some legs on a good piece of motorway that has a long radius curve and the back end starts to feel loose, not dangerous but also not confident. The car has as new tyres and recent new rear shocks so was wondering if this is it's normal comfy GT suspension setup. On a positive note I really enjoy driving the SC, it's comfy, quiet and has a nice turn of speed especially in 3rd and 4th, looking forward to cruising with the top down in Summer. All advice/opinions welcome as it's a keeper and just trying to make it as good as it can be without breaking the bank.

  29. I intend to keep the car and saw this as an investment. I may not be fit enough to crawl around under the car at a later date. With new driveshafts I also got the benefit of new bearings and rubber boots, so I won't have to worry about these wearing out. I think the driveshafts were about £280 including postage from Rockauto.

  30. As Linas says - it could have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control which would make it quite special. Printed on the cruise control stalk there would be a small image of a car next to the speedo image (page 142 in the manual) whereas cars without this fitted only have an image of the speedo printed on the stalk (page 139 in the manual).

  32. The speed limit exceed bong has to be turned off every time. The speed limit change bong can be turned off permanently. I’ve learned to just ignore it, it eventually fades into the background, you can set the various bongs and noises to be the lowest setting and if you have music on you can barely hear it. Lane Keep assist also seems to have to be turned off every time, but at least that is 1 button on the steering wheel. we need a list of all the different bings and bongs as there are so many it is itself distracting.

  33. Currently the central display reports between 2.1 m/kWh and 2.2 m/kWh but when I first got the car it was reporting 2.5 m/kWh. Total average combined milage is 48 mpg over the 2300 miles it's been driven. On a 102 mile trip last weekend I got an average fuel economy of 62.5 mpg starting with a fully charged battery and getting 44.7 miles in EV mode.

  34. Hi Ken, According to the in car system I’m getting 2.6 m/kWh and a combined mpg of approximately 68. I’ve tried to strip out the EV equivalent miles and calculate a pure ICE mpg that came to approximately 38. This is averaged over 4300 miles starting last July. I’ll be interested to hear from others of their experience.

  35. The newer current-gen NX (like the new RX) have an encrypted canbus, that isn’t vulnerable to the current injection theft. It’s not just about the location of wiring but how messages on the canbus are treated.

  37. Hi Bilal. Instead of re-greasing the slider pins just get brand new ones. Also wrap some sandpaper around a screwdriver shaft, grit around 240, to clean the holes where the sliders go. I had a quick look yesterday for aftermarket opposed calipers for the is250. Nothing came up but except from America and costing £3.5k but one British firm makes them from billets and at about £240 but they're not is250 specific. Perhaps look online and enquire to firms you find. HEL Performance was the firm I found. Look them up. Who knows you may strike lucky or they'd make them special if you mentioned there would be hundreds of fellow is250 owners would want them too.

  38. I rarely have cause to lower the driver’s window, so when I did so a couple of days ago the accompanying squealing was a bit of a shock! OK…so not the worst automotive challenge, but still a pain. First thought - grime on the rubber seals across the top of the door. So a vigorous rubbing with a microfibre cloth resulted in …no change at all! So it was down to Screwfix and hand over £7.59 for a can of WD40 Silicon spray. Back home, I prepare the can to spray down the window guides and press the button to lower the window. It glides down with but a whisper! It closes just as silently! Apparently just the mere presence of a can of WD40 Silicon has scared the squeal out of it. But I give the rubber guides a couple of shots anyway. So, was it a delayed response to cleaning the top of the window? Or an instance of a Lexus eerily sensing the presence of the WD40 Silicon? Who knows? Who cares? Either way, I now have a lifetime’s supply of the stuff in the shed.

  40. You need to find the lowest point on the pipe, I assume that is going to be just under the rear axle. Anything after secondary cats should be fine. No that rubber melts at ~200-280C, so it is very unlikely that any part of exhaust get's that hot after catalytic converter. What I have personally seen is the hole in the back silencer, however I am not sure how the internal layout on IS250 looks, so it is hard to say if hole in the box would achieve anything. Based on some comments above (water pouring out of the back box) it sound like it may work, but I am not 100% sure. As for diameter - buy the rubber plugs first, measure their diameter and drill hole ~10% smaller than the plug e.g. say 6.5mm hole for 7mm plug.

  41. I already have new rear reluctor rings which will be installed when the bearings are done. I was going to do just 1 job at a time i.e. new discs and pads first, but got some good deals on all the parts I purchased and the mechanic can do them all in one shot. Hopefully that will fix the annoying judder/pulsating problem. By comparison I had new discs and pads fitted to my RX last year which has over twice the mileage (164k), never had a problem with judder or ABS and presumably still on its original sensors and bearings.

  42. I would have a look at the ABS reluctor rings on the driveshafts before you buy any of the other parts . Can show up as a ABS pulsate from the pedal just before you stop .

  43. The judder/pulsate you mention, does it happen through the pedal just before you come to a stop ? water leak in boot..take light units out and clean muck out of gully. Then use some sealer around the white push in lamp locator pins, and maybe the cable as it goes through the body .

Keeping a car in a garage overnight incurs an excess over one that is on a driveway, perhaps hard to believe but true, actually putting a wet car into a garage does it no favours and accelerates rusting especially if it is a wooden garage, it's good to have a second named driver on a policy this also reduces the premium.

  46. Well I am just updating this chat after picking up the car on the 28th Jan , had great enjoyment driving this car , all family and friends say how quiet and comfortable it is. Unfortunately last night had an array of lights pop up on dash to include , TPMS,ABS off , AFS off , VSC , and check system messages check VSC and ECB. Getting transported back to the supplying garage tomorrow for investigation (glad they provided a three month warranty) , will update this space once I find out what the issue or issues are. I did mention to them that there was a small noise when in reverse which sounded like the rear pads were low although considering they have checked it over before I picked it up and the last MOT had no advisories I will be surprised if it is discs or pads unless they lied...we will see

  47. According to the Amayama website this is still available (at a price) and it is not yet showing as NLA or obsolete. There are 3 tint colours available so make sure you check or ask me to. If you can get your insurance company to agree to you importing one and having it fitted this may be your only option and bear in mind there is 20% VAT to add to the total price from Amayama. He’s very attentive …… or send him your phone number on a message here I know he has a make-do plastic rear screen that’s far from ideal but makes his car driveable …… lucky he has two Ls400s eh ! Sourcing a replacement will be extremely challenging there’s another post here somewhere about a company up north that makes glass screens …. NOT Pilkington ……and u might be lucky there I meant to keep their number handy but I didn’t sadly It’s on this forum somewhere I know ! terrible for you 🥵 Malc

  50. I have been under the impression that it was the lower models of a marque's range that just had one reversing and one fog light. I can't remember having less than two of each in the last 25 years and not all of them were the top models. There was a thread sometime ago when somebody complained that even with two reversing lights he could not see to back up in certain circumstances and I believe fitted more powerful LEDs or some other modification. Of course back up lights are not intended to serve as rearward driving lights but are to warn other drivers of the maneuver.
