I've found Meguiar's Black Plastic Restorer to be very good at hiding those annoying marks. Works will on the black wheel-arch trim and bumpers too. Wipe it on and leave it to dry (a few seconds). Don't over rub/polish or it can look patchy. It can't fill-in deep scratches but sometimes I fill those with a Sharpie them rub over with the restorer before the final wipe. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-G15812EU-Ultimate-Plastic-Restorer/dp/B0044090GC/ref=asc_df_B0044090GC/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310513207083&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5112178398864442049&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046185&hvtargid=pla-451446778028&psc=1&th=1&psc=13 points

..... Two months later I'm in Denmark parked next to a Polestar 2, of which I've been seeing quite a few around. Don't have much to say except that I hadn't seen one close-up before. Comparisons are rather meaningless, but I will comment that, despite its age, I find my RC better looking if only because it's a coupé. The Polestar's owner let me take a peep inside and I was perhaps less impressed than he was when I subsequently returned the favour with my RC. The quality of both cars is visibly high but Lexus' is higher - though, in fairness, it must be said that the Polestar's cabin is probably ideal for anyone looking to balance minimalism with a good degree of space and comfort. This entry-level 270bhp version gets to 100kmh in just over 6' against the RC300h's 8'+, making it a nippy car though the owner admitted that he and most other Danish private customers buy it less for performance than for its spaciousness and claimed Volvo-like solidity and probable long life compared to Tesla. The guy added that he would have preferred to buy the sleeker and more luxurious SUV-type "3" Polestar but couldn't afford one at not much less than twice the price of the "2".2 points

Update: Had a call from Lexus customer service after I emailed them. They advise that they are supplying the locking wheel nuts to the UK (legal requirement they say) but not Europe. The do not have a time frame but will update my dealer on the situation.2 points

Thanks Malc, they were 7 of the Kings pounds for a twin pack! Fortune would have it, I was a 'fitter' whilst working for Halfords at University and I would hope after stripping the subframe, suspension and interior, I could manage a mere bulb change (he says) 🤣 - time to find out 😛2 points

Given the age of my 2004 Celsior the paint wasn’t in bad condition at all but I had noticed weird marks in the paint when washed, dried and hand polished in certain sunlit conditions. After asking my local paint shop 3 times for a machine polish and never getting it in I began to look into DIY. Many YouTube videos later I was more confused and hesitant by the various stages of polishing, which polishing pads to use, which cutting compounds to use, which polishing machine to use and what speed plus all the methods involved in applying the compound, amount of pressure to apply etc. I ended up buying a £50.00 DA machine, 2 Chemical Guys pads (green for the cutting and red for polishing), a bottle of Chemical Guys VSS scratch and swirl remover and a tub of Armor All polish. Over 3 days I rinsed, snowfoamed, rinsed, clay bared, cut the paint and then machine polished. After reading all the horror stories about paint thickness, hard/soft paint and panel edges I took my time. I wasn’t looking for absolute perfection but an improvement. I think it came out pretty good, the weird marks have gone which was my main concern. OK there are still scratches in the paint if you look closely but overall I’m satisfied with the results.1 point

My radio failed in a 65 plate Fsport IS300H with the Mark Levinson Premium system( part number 86130-53M52). The garage tried convincing me it was the amplifier at fault and should pay £2000 to replace it, but it was non-refundable if that wasn't the fault. I was aware of this forum thread so declined their offer and bought a second hand head unit. I bought a slightly older model stereo (86130-53M42 from 2014) and swaped the front control panel which is slightly different after 2015. Both units are made by Pioneer.1 point

I read a post on the American LS forum. It said that it is OK to replace just one air strut, because the suspension will balance itself out, unlike conventional shock absorbers.1 point

Hey Steven, Thanks for sharing your experience with E10! We have it in Ireland for few weeks now and I filled 3 tanks already, then I see same or even lower consumption on MK4 GS450h.. I agree there is too much fuzz about it.. 🤣🤣1 point

Consumer Rights Act? Goods must be of reasonable quality …..can’t really argue there. And last a reasonable amount of time….could argue here that a 2 year old car stolen off your driveway did not last a reasonable amount of time.1 point

maybe mine are of a different type of plastic product from 1995 ......... mine seem to be simply solid right through with the same colour, just a lump of moulded disc shaped plastic . they won't take paint or lacquer finish it seems ( with any degree of consistency ) . indeed, my wheels were refurbished by powder coating and they told me they should last another 15 years subject to me being careful and avoiding dings, dents and bashes ..... of course .. finish longevity is simply down to me and my driving style 🤣 One of my centre caps has a couple of grooves in it from carelessness some years past by someone ( heaven's not me eh ! ) and i haven't had the grooves filled as, actually, they are of course the same colour whatever the depth of the zap Good luck with yours Malc1 point

Generally speaking it would be fine, but price makes absolutely no sense. Mods are subjective thing, but one thing for sure - they never add value to the car. Maybe some small, universally acceptable mods, but massive, oversized, shaite quality wheels, slammed suspension etc. always going to reduce the price, not to increase it. So all that said, the car of this age/mileage would be already £4000-5000, Cat-C is -40% if not more. so we are looking into £2000-3000 at absolute maximum. Then we need to look at bad mods - wheels -£500, because they are horrible and would implode just driving close to pot hole (he said it is Vossen, but I know from experience 99% of them are counterfeit and even when they are not Vossen is for style, not for quality). Air suspension if it works then adds no value, but I would not count on it... and if it doesn't then add set of normal shocks which is £1000. All lights must be restored (hopefully they are tinted with film) or replaced (I don't even understand how it is legal), GS headlights barely illuminates road already, so these tinted one at night must be horrible. So what we end-up with? £1000? £2000 at best if I am being generous and everything is in perfect condition. To be fair as soon as I read "show car" next to this I would not give £1 for description alone. And I am not against modifying cars, but not all cars could be modified and not all mods makes car look better. This would count as ruined.1 point

Quick update - so after 2 weeks of backwards and forwards e-mails and Centre Manager trying to call me they have refunded the amount in full. I did not pick-up the calls, partially because I was on holidays, but partially because I just don't want to hear their excuses and BS. I asked them very simple thing which they clearly didn't have and which is basically the only possible proof of AC service being carried out. If there is no print out of recovered/refilled amount and leak test then there is nothing else to discuss, they can tell me anything, but there is no way to actually check it. They did send me invoice week later which had both incorrect registration number and incorrect mileage, so again laughable proof of work. If they have not checked the mileage then I doubt they were even in the car for much more than just moving it between parking spaces. I think from legal perspective that would count as no proof as well - as even if I am asked to provide proof myself, I have nothing (lets say if I decide to sell the car) - no performance test, no refilled amount, no leak test results and even registration number and mileage is wrong. Regarding the parking fine - they asked me to send them over the receipt of me paying it and the picture of the charge itself, so I expect them to cover it soon. All in all, they are completely useless for any work, but I must give credit to their customer service team for at least refunding it and not making even bigger issue here. But imagine somebody less knowledgeable going there - would come out without money, without service and with extra £65 parking fine.1 point

I had 3 remotes registered when I checked in tis. I only have 1 master key so I selected delete all registered remotes. The master was in the ignition and switch two places, ready light is the 3rd place so to far. I then erased or de registered all remotes and when prompted pressed the lock and unlock for 1 second then lock for 1 second. You hear a single beep. I did this with the master in the ignition. When I rechecked it had only 1 remote registered, my master.1 point

So after all of that, it was the sodding bulb, serves me right for not sticking to simple things first, both bulbs visibly blown on the dipped beam filament. Halfords will have to do for now and I will upgrade later as the light given off is abysmal, must have been bad luck that both went together.1 point

You can't beat Savagegeese for reviews on the Lexus brand, in fact they present a very good factual programme. Unlike say Doug the Manure.1 point

If you're going to do that then it's worth considering a service plan. It will fix the servicing price over its duration as well as spread the cost, and you can often get a discount based on length of plan. When I took out a 5 year plan I got 15% off.1 point

Please shoot me down in flames if I have this wrong ! If these are solid "silver" coloured plastic covers / inserts . as they, the centre caps, are on my original Ls400 wheels .. cannot the paint lacquer finish be totally removed, to get back to the original solid plastic and colour, with the rest of the wheels painted / powder coated to match the finish and colour of the solid plastic inserts ? Then you'll never need to worry about the " finish " breaking down in anyway just a thought Malc1 point

On my pieplates the lacquer has also started to peel off as well. I did start to try and remove all of it but it was taking for ever so as not to damage the finish underneath so any recommendations as to what is the best thing to use that would be effective but not damage the plastic finish?1 point

What impresses me is the trouble that Lexus went to to make plastic look like brushed metal, which also has a textured finish, just like the real thing. Where the paint has flaked off there appears to be a smooth chrome finish underneath, which I bet the Americans paid more for!1 point

If you're looking to get any work done. I highly recommend checking prices across different authorised service centers. Lexus also have just service centres that do not have a dealership / showroom. These service centres tend to be cheaper. E.g. Lexus Hayes and Lexus Chalfont. I had my waterpump replaced a while ago and Lexus Hayes did it for £320 with coolant and a new belt for the price. Lexus Twickenham which is a "dealership" wanted £428 without a new belt. I am not sure if service costs differ too but worth checking. You will continue to retain your warranty if you use these centres and their rates are comparable to an indie.1 point

Re Smelly AC this may help, put your windows down & dont sit in the car whilst doing this unless you want to get high. Run the air con & on the settings select outdoor air with the engine running spray this through the vents from outside the car (vents are below the wipers) Got the Idea from Scottykilmer youtube channel. Its a anti-bacterial spray. Dettol disinfectant spray in 20 seconds spray intervals 2-3x. I did it initially & then the next day it seems to make the smell dissapear for about 12 months. For info The AC drain pipe is above the gearbox very difficult to access that may be blocked. Also try replacing your pollen cabin filter its 5 min job inside the glove box passenger side. https://groceries.asda.com/product/antibacterial-cleaning-spray-wipes/dettol-all-in-one-disinfectant-spray-crisp-linen/1000325879535?&cmpid=ppc-_-ghs-_--_-google-_--_-dskwid-_dm&s_kwcid=AL!11432!3!!!!x!!&gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8s23vt_h_wIVEIBQBh2CjADhEAQYBCABEgIFQfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds1 point

This might be a viable alternative: https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1597438 At 97,000 it's "barely run in", to use a hackneyed phrase. It looks good enough to show, at least from the pictures. However, there does seem to be some mismatched paint at the front so that would need a close inspection. I notice that although the seller waxes lyrical about the woodwork they don't show a picture of it! If you haven't driven one you're in for a treat.1 point

The UK needs 433 MHz keys. You shouldn't need two keys to wipe and reprogram in TS, but if that isn't working then you could try rewrite manual mode. RX400h door lock programming.pdf1 point

I had my front wheel bearings changed at 80k miles on my IS 300h. Noticed a humming noise on the front nearside. I could make this better or worse by loading and unloading the wheel by steering left or right sharply. I took a Lexus tech out in the car to demonstrate and he agreed and stripped it down and it was the wheel bearing. They also then checked the other side and said that was also starting to go and so changed that one too. Both were done under the extended warranty I had with Lexus.1 point

A bit of a long shot but do you have the ‘Lexus’ Nextbase front dash cam fitted ? Mine suffered a buzzing noise under similar situations and it turned out to be the big Wi-Fi button on the camera. It stopped when the camera was removed. I wedged a tiny bit of foam in the space around the button and it solved the problem. Mine is currently suffering with a (frustratingly) intermittent metal clanging noise from the right rear passenger seat area. I thought that it was our car booster seats at first but it still happens when they are removed. Nothing in the boot, tools secure, it didn’t happen when the car went in to Lexus for the fuel recall. Extremely frustrating.1 point

My lexus has two dipsticks. One in the engine bay and the other one behind the steering wheel. I know, my wife told me so. BTW The problem with a missing dipstick is that you cannot do preventative maintenance. I suppose the engine oil light will come on well before it gets too low , but that seems a bit dramatic if that comes on while you are driving on a motorway1 point

I was close to being an ex Lexus owner after only one car some after the fateful decision not to bring the latest IS to the UK. There's nothing else in the range I want. However, with the EV mess I've decided I'm probably best served keeping my current IS 300h for the foreseeable future to see how things pan out over the next few years - so a reprieve for now.1 point
