Thanks Lads, I came from a succession of BMWs, the latest an e60 with virtually all the toys. It even had working indicators......ππ π I'd been looking for something like a 3 series, but anecdotal reports seemed to claim a decline in reliability and, in particular, poor Dealers poor service levels. Shame, but there you go. Here's a few pics from the sales ad, looked to have everything I'd need/want so I went for it. Hope you like.4 points

I don't know how the plate was installed or even what it looks like. I think it better that those details are not bandied about on a public forum as the longer it takes the scrotes to figure out how to defeat it, the better. No rattling so far. Lexus Customer Services arranged for my local branch to fit it.The local branch service people didn't seem to know much about the issue and were gobsmacked when the guy who came to fit it demonstrated how the thieves accessed the CANBUS cabling. As I've said before I don't know how Lexus are going to take this forward. Enquire at your local branch.4 points

I got all excited today, saw the whole picture coming together and beamed at her in all the soon to be glory. The body shop kindly allowed me to come put some bits back on to make her a runner instead of a pusher. So all 4 calipers were installed, brake lines reattached and parking brake cable reconnected. Reinstated rad, condenser and associated pipes, air box etc all put back in and then finally all fluids refilled, only to realise I had forgot my EZ bleed kit for the brakes (doh!), so going back tomorrow morning to finish that off. Battery has been at home on trickle since its departure to the body shop, I had to give it a go right? Car of course started first time, no exhaust attached so a thumping V8 grumble rang through the building. 7 more sleeps and I should be good to have the car back at home π3 points

All, I had one fitted to my RX today. As @08ISF suggests, probably best not to explain too much on a public forum but I have confidence that it will make a significant difference to thefts and make thieves move on to other targets. I understand it has been deployed in other markets and has had a substantial impact in theft reduction in those places. I think the main thing now is that the community of RX, NX, ES etc owners approach their dealers to schedule fitting (clearly this will take some time) but only by getting this installed in more vehicles will theft statistics come down, hopefully causing insurance premiums to do the same. Oh a 53 Chevy can handle and go if you throw money at it, but so can any car. From the factory it was 1.5 tons and 115Bhp with a 0-60 in the 20 second bracket. Most American cars don't handle since there is very little need for it over there but they have been getting better recently, and a few of their manufacturers are even starting to remember what build quality means, but then with competition from Toyota/Honda/Nissan they really have no choice.2 points

Hi all, newby to the community here, joined as I've recently bought a 2008 IS250. I'll likely be asking some stupid questions over the coming weeks/months, so please be gentle with me. π New to the marque but have owned one Toyota [Corolla hatchback.many years ago which served me well. I had the convertible itch too as summer approached so picked up a Mercedes SL for the sunnier days...can whole heartedly recommend it as summer companion to the Lexii... So in my garage, Mr Miagi now has a pretty little German girlfriend...1 point

Accessory socket only live when ignition on, looking at the fuse box under glove box the first blue fuse is an 15amp accessory fuse so piggy backed that, the next base has a battery back up, When ignition on camera goes live and records while charging and turns off when stopped, if car is knocked camera turns and battery takes over and camera records, so never running the car battery down while ignition off. Wasn't to sure how everything came apart so took my time and took about an hour, which if you've done it before should shave that down to 30mins.1 point

Ouch. That really is chronic. I do feel for you. I'm currently waiting on an NX Takumi which is currently due at the dealer in September to the best of my latest knowledge - at which point I'll be at the 15 month mark from ordering to point of collection. Obviously, this still remains 'subject to change' π. It does seem to be the case those with Takumis on order (regardless of what Lexus model it is) seem to be really suffering. As I've said elsewhere, I only hope the dealers do acknowledge/address this in some way but I have no faith they will. I remember when I got my UX back in 2020... I took the showroom model because barring the colour, it was exactly the spec I wanted (the option packs, plus the red leather). If I wanted exactly the same thing but in my first choice of colour, I'd have had a 16 week wait or thereabouts. I didn't know just how bad the situation would be two years down the line when ordering it's replacement. 16 weeks is nothing now!1 point

I have finally fitted the Lexus logos from the plate pie wheel covers onto the new covers. The chrome had started to peel off the logos and I bought some chrome spray paint to refurbish them. I then thought that the chrome would blend into the silver of the wheel covers and would not stand out. I sprayed the logos gloss black instead. I think they look OK. Pictures attached.1 point

I have an LS430 as a big comfortable cruiser and an SC430 for the current glorious weather. The SC is also used as a coupe when the weather is not as good. The SC has a hard top which makes it more secure than a conventional soft top. I don't need to tell you about Lexus reliability. If you run your LS and an SC you will have the best of all worlds. The two cars have identities and will stand out when compared to the modern Euroboxes. I used to have at least one change of car every year but since getting my first Lexus, changing is a thing of the past.1 point

That's great news. Which Lexus branch offered it and can we ask our local branch for this as well? Also any newfound rattling after the plate attachment? Many thanks1 point

Hi, for me the silver one i asked if they could send me photos of all the faults inside and out that they could see . They sort of refused and said all cars were photographed the same way. I travelled 3 hours only to be disappointed with the paintwork. Maybe I'm after to much but even on a 14/15 year old Β£50000 car I expected better. Budget for me is what I think it's worth but under Β£25000 Regards john1 point

Yes - haven't seen any older IS 300h targeted for thefts but insurers are probably lumping together all Lexus models as at more risk - good excuse to squeeze more money out of us whether or not we are really at higher risk... Only advice I have is to use the comparison sites. I've tried a few over the years and they seem much the same. I now use just one as all our details are in there so it's quick to run comparisons for little effort. I didn't investigate insurance companies not on the comparison sites because in the past when I've done that I haven't found them as being any more competitive and the time taken to fill out all the details one by one on their websites takes way too much time...1 point

Update on the protection plate: The protection plate is now in play. I had it fitted to my RX at the local dealer's today. From what I understand they are trialling this on a few customer's cars and then will presumably roll it out. Whether it will be a recall or a service bulletin subject I do not know, or it may be you have to ask, but it does exist. Whether it will be effective remains to be seen and I don't suppose it will help with this year's insurance renewal, which by the look of it will be 100% up on last year.1 point

Hello John and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is and especially ownership of the superb is250. What made you choose this car? What did you gave before this car? Which spec is it? We do like to see photos of new members cars so don't be shy. Look in the gen 2 IS section of the forum. There's one thread in particular you should read. All you need to know about the is250.1 point

A very good choice. I still have a soft spot for the Gen 2 IS - had lots of fun in mine.1 point

Today I finished preparing Bombproof Betty for the Centenary Le Mans. It's taken a while, was a little challenging at times, but has been a highly enjoyable process, I've made new friends along the way and discovered a bomb detector:o) I wanted to restore an already lovely car (thanks Antony) into my daily driver "from here to eternity". The list of work includes replacing rocker gasket covers, auxiliary belt, rear brake pads & shoes, front brake pads, old hoses, fixing coolant and water leaks, adding a new temperature sensor and gasket thermostat, cleaning the throttle body, refurbishing wheels, dent removal, paint restoration and detailing. There's still more work still to be done I'm very happy to say, that will keep me occupied and out of trouble for a while yet.1 point

If you do decide to replace the motor below is a good tutorial. Price from Amayama also but bear in mind you may have to pay the VAT in addition on the total price Β£186.89 but still around a 50% saving! https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/89231500501 point
