Having owned my RX450H for less than a month, my average fuel consumption is around 35mpg.My journeys consist of a mixture of short stop start trips and longer motorway journeys. I think that 35mpg is remarkable, considering that it is powered by a 3.5 litre engine. The fuel consumption is far better than my previous Range Rover. I am absolutely delighted with the car.4 points

Good news today. App says my NX 450 has left the factory. Wonder what ship it will be on. Very excited. It’s been a long time. Ordered beginning of May.3 points

For my last MOT I had to invest basically double that, although in Euros. My fuel tank was too rusty so I had to have another one put in. Tank and heatshield. It was a huge job as the whole rear axle has to come off. Huge bill. But in the end the reasoning I used to decide if it was worthy or not was the following: Can I buy another 4 doors luxury saloon, with all the luxury features I have and my car is loaded, RWD, manual tranmission, petrol, at least V6, as well designed, built, finished and reliable, which looks as good, for the money my car is worth? The asnwer was no. So I paid for the repair and couldn't be happier with my decision.3 points

I assume this is occurring before actual financial contracts are signed and the money has been transferred from Toyota Finance to the Lexus dealer. They can withdraw the offer and provide a new one with increased rates, you can decide not to use them. Once the contract is signed and the cooling off period has passed then if it is a fixed rate agreement then it won't be altered.2 points

Understand the point, but it is quite an outdated concept. We live in a ‘get what you want’ rather than a ‘buy what you need and can afford’ culture, with economic growth (whatever that means!) locked into that. I essentially lease my Lexus using a PCP at 1.9% whereas my savings are locked away at significantly more than that. Personally I can’t see the point in using savings in such a circumstance and I guess a lot of people are the same. However, I’m fortunate in terms of the age I am having benefitted from house price growth and good pensions etc. As @rayaansand @ColinBarbernote, the bigger issue is those who take on loans without any headroom if circumstances change…but I have to say, I think that’s been the case for decades. It’s a bit too easy for those of a certain age - and I include myself - to deride the choices of those in a very different financial situation and operating in a very different financial landscape. We have become addicted to cheap credit in the Western world, and tbh I think a lot of us knew it couldn’t last forever. None of that makes your original point wrong by the way…2 points

A bit of prep for the forthcoming MoT on my LS400: Changed all four wheels and tyres to a better set with matching Dunlops. I thought this one might be past it..... It split like that all the way round when standing this summer. Treated it to a quick clean, as it had moss and the odd plant growing in the gaps: It's going in later this week once my son's Yaris has had its own MoT. Fingers crossed.......2 points

Culture today is very different - almost a disposable culture. Makes sense then when Lloyds Bank recently stated that most of the accounts that people have with them dont even have £500 in them. As Colin says - the cheaper way usually now is to pay off the finance immediately and take all the incentives. But at the end of the day it still requires people to save up Gone are the days where people would drive around cars they could actually afford. Instead we see many youngsters loaded to the gilt in monthly outgoings. Cost of living crisis? Ive long called bull**** on it. Its only a crisis if you dont have enough saved up to begin with or aren't great with money in my opinion.2 points

Would be interesting to see if the difference in timescales is model/spec related 🤔1 point

According to the manual, EV driving may be canceled automatically in the following circumstances: When vehicle speed is more than approximately 135 km/h (84 mph). When in AUTO EV/HV mode: When power is temporarily needed, such as when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed or when accelerating suddenly. When the temperature of the hybrid system is high, such as after the vehicle has been parked in an extremely hot environment, or is driven at high speeds or up a slope, etc. When the temperature of the hybrid system is low. When the heater is switched on when the outside temperature is below about -10° (14°F). When the windshield defogger switch is pressed. When the system determines that the gasoline engine needs to be started. I reckon the last "catch all" case is what I experienced today ...1 point

Fully agree. I find the German cars to be pure hype. Been there done that. These days most of them are ugly too. The most hilarious is their money grabbing tactics. Everything is an option. The only reason you don't have to pay extra for a steering wheel is because there is probably a law against that. 😄1 point

Hi Malcolm, Your summary is spot on. Lexus used to sell a tailored boot carpet for the ISC ( in black only I beleive ) so you might check with your dealer if these are still available. I sourced mine from eBay but I guess that was just a bit of luck and it was over three years ago. I don't beleive any UK cars were supplied with the space saver but I do recall reading of one owner who ordered the US spec moulded tray from his local Lexus dealer in order to accomadate the spce saver. From memory I think it took some time to arrive and was quite expensive for a chunk of moulded polystyrene but it sorrted his problem. Len, Malcolm is talking about the IS250 convertible which unlike the saloon, did not come with a space saver spare wheel. Which reminds me that the moulded tray from the saloon will not fit the wheel well in the convertible. That would be too easy. Nothing in life is straightforward!! Dec.1 point

According to the handbook the guidance is: "To set the parking brake, fully depress the parking brake pedal with your left foot while depressing the brake pedal with your right foot." Personally if I'm going to use the parking brake (I only use it when parking on an incline) I stop, keep my right foot on the brake pedal, move the gear lever to P, engage the parking brake with my left foot and then take my right foot off the brake pedal. I find this method prevents any undue movement of the car against the gearbox P pawl.1 point

What he said. There are no new creatures like this for sale anymore. Personally can't see how I can do my 6000 miles a year in a better way (both financially and everything else). I can't see myself ever fork out for one of the EV's everyone's and their dog is on about, I can easily buy a new Tesla cash but I can't see the logic as we also get our milk at nearest the petrol station (no such luxuries as shops anywhere near).1 point

Then get your wife/brother/friend/whoever to follow you out of the area to an auto electrician where you can leave the car with them. 'Auto electrician' is a proper trade in itself and it's becoming patently obvious that the people you're going to are not auto electricians. Back on October 12th both Supafly and myself posted videos showing how to do parasitic drain tests. The thing is, even if your garage does find a parasitic draw, they then have to start looking for the cause of that draw and rectify the problem and again, this is where a proper auto electrician will have the proper tools, knowledge and expertise to get it done quickly and efficiently.1 point

Hi Malcolm, Yes, the space saver from a normal IS250 will fit the ISC. These are 17" but will work perfectly OK with the 18" wheels on your car. US spec cars apparently all came with the space saver fitted as standard so there is plenty of room in the wheel well. However, the moulded tray fitted to European cars is designed to store the compressor and will not accomadate a space saver wheel. What I have done is discarded the tray and fitted the space saver to the empty well with the bolt and wingnut as used in the standard IS250. The next problem is that the folding cover for the well will not fit as it is designed to sit in the moulded tray. I simply fashioned a new cover from some 6mm MDF and covered this with a Lexus ISC specific boot carpet mat. You can opt to modify the moulded tray but I chose not to go this route in case I needed to return the car to original when the time comes to sell. Hope this helps and welcome to the Club. Bought wheel for £507 from Lexus spares, had local tyre specialist transfer the tyre and tpms to the new wheel and fit a new budget tyre on the scratched wheel for £80 all in. Bought and fitted Toyota clamp for the spare wheel for £8. Made a support for the centre of the floor out of a cut down plastic bucket and a layer of acoustic felt that I had lying around. Not the cheapest solution but I now have a full size spare hidden safely under the boot floor. (The jack, wheel-brace and towing eye are now in a plastic box in the boot and take up very little space).1 point

Very good advice! Invest in a NOCO Boost - and if you can, a CTEK trickle charger - and you should never be caught out. But you ask about the battery. Is it the original? If so, then it’s already done very well at nine years old. You should think about replacing it, especially as winter’s coming and it’ll be under extra load.1 point

Great news! Really interesting to read about the throttle. It's the first time I've read about a fault with this. You're very fortunate to have the APEXI installed. Does the APEXI allow you to change ignition timing? My LS is LPG converted and it would be great to tweak the timing for the fuel type. - Quick search points to it only allowing fuel adjustment, which I can do via the lpg ecu.1 point

Forhad. If you haven't already spent all your pennies this last week, one of these is a proper life-saver if you ever need a jump start NOCO Boost I always keep mine handy, and it's helped numerous folks out (including me!)1 point

actually I'm going to shift the blame to my wife and daughter. its her car and my young daughter left the interior light on overnight.1 point

I have jump started mine before....twice actually. once from the battery in the rear and once from the engine bay points. check your vehicle book1 point

If you cannot get to the boot then you could always try the under bonnet charge/jump start connections and as shown in this video. Your manual will more precisely show where the connections are situated1 point

Alex, I stopped using it on my 2020 UX for the same reason of being constantly flashed. After using the 2022 NX version on many occasions I am really impressed and have only been flashed once. I think the latest version is a huge step forward in technology.1 point

I am having a go at modern German cars, I call them white goods. Mass produced and purchase agreement specials which Bank's love. The old Mercs and BMWs (Audi also) were a different car and a different era. Subaru are the same, Subaru was associated with motor sports but not anymore and neither are the cars, with CVT transmission that's put an end to it. Performance Subaru cars now cost a king's ransom in Japan, the manual cars. I saw one like mine for around $40/50k. These are proper drivers car, less tech, more fun. I have a few car models in showcase cabinets, the standout cars are Mercedes from the 1950s - the 300 SLRs of course - how the mighty have fallen. The model at the top is my prized collection. https://i.imgur.com/kBtzo6e.jpg1 point

Right then. I'm on my 4th treble asda take on Southern Comfort. Yes it's ok to slag of German cars BUT the best car Ever built was German. Put simply the UR QUATTRO. The best car by far I've ever owned or driven. If I had the money my is250 would go and I'd have another UR Quattro. Anyone who slags this car off I'll find you and make mincemeat of you. Simplz as orlav says (the animated animal on the insurance comparison site). I've just watched the Grand Tour scandi flick. Effffing funny. I've not laughed so much in ages. The best one yet.1 point

My friend had a cl55 I’ve never been so scared as a passenger let me tell you . Yes a cracking engine , I think all the high end stuff from merc / BMW is great M5 etc , at a price of course they should of stuck to that level and resisted the urge to get on the mass production dog Pooh wagon that they push out in the form of A-C class and 1 series and effectively trash the good name for quality they did indeed have back in the day , the only quality your see in the average German branded showroom now is the dolly birds at reception and the decent coffee they feed you whilst your getting financially raped for all the unexpected repairs on 3rd service (out of warranty ) time 🙂1 point

Just to underline the point that Colin and Herbie have made, our RX450's are not electric vehicles, they are hybrids, where the main two jobs of the electric power is to move the car for the first few yards, and it noticeably cuts in when we accelerate hard. - No matter how slowly you travel in that there London's traffic, your petrol engine will cut in whenever your battery requires charging - - even if you're standing at the traffic lights. You'll achieve maximum mpg (which will still be low 30's in winter) with a gentle driving style, and a 'hyper-miling' approach (it's worth looking it up on't'internet) It's also worth remembering that we're piloting 21/2 tonne of un-aerodynamic truck, so 30+ mpg in town traffic is not a bad result at all1 point

Well, it’s home. It was very grubby so had to give it a quick-sh*t wash at Asda on the way back. Just clocked 72k on the 2.5h drive back from Dagenham. Other than clutch being on its last legs it’s mechanically sound. It’s got a cream inteior which i absolutely hate, but there’s about 30 manuals for sale in the whole country and this was the only one in this Desert Sage Metallic colour that I quite like so my next step is to swap the interior for black leather. Spoke to the guy who bought & crashed my black one, and I’ll have some interior bits (glove box + lower dash trim that goes under the glovebox and under the steering wheel) from that one, but not all as he’s going to be using it as a donor car for a new one he bought. Scrappy by me has IS300h leather seats that I’ll be putting into this, another scrappy not far from me has rear black leather seats & door cards. Carpet I’ll be dying black as swapping that would be a sh*t job. Clutch I’ll sort over Christmas as it’s not slipping yet.1 point

Update: Installed the new tensioner, the belt now sits in more (not as close to the edge). The car wouldn't stay running on it's own without my help pressing the throttle down and it would fluctuate the revs up & down, BUT after some fiddling around I finally got it to stay running on it's own, I had to adjust the TPS and play with the throttle motor. I do believe my throttle motor/actuator is dying, normally you hear that slight buzz from the motor but it had no noise coming from it with IGN ON, I had to turn the IGN to OFF and ON a few times for it come on. I have an APEXI NEO installed which measures my throttle position among other things and noticed when the pedal was fully depressed the motor had no power and the butterfly valve only opened a tiny bit due to the wire, after I got the throttle motor to finally turn on and I pressed the pedal I noticed the throttle position had full movement, turned on the car and Boom! It's alive! I won't say it's fixed for now until I reassemble everything and do a little more testing but for now it's looking good.1 point

It’s okay if you buy a new German thanks to warranty but god help your wallet if you go for some older models. People often slag off japanese cars for not being “nice enough” inside and whilst it’s true unless you get a lexus, I’d choose less glam for reliability any day of the week. Not saying this is the case of your son, but so many people chase Badges and forget about the rest. I got my GT86 at 21 because i wanted a sporty car rather than something that might impress the ladies and I couldn’t of been happier 😁1 point

I have followed this recurring issue here and on the other (mainly US members) forum. Luckily, I don’t have the leak problem (yet) and so I am not totally au fait as to where all the drain holes are to check and clear where necessary. May I suggest it a good topic to consider for a potential workshop subject at our next summer meet?1 point

Update time. There are some exciting changes coming very soon... As you may know, I was looking for a 300ZX some time ago, but I couldn't find one that's good enough. Ended up selling my IS250 and went for '99 Toyota Mark II JZX100. As much as I liked that car for what it COULD be, rather than for what it was, I swapped that for a '94 Nissan 300ZX because 1) the old-school automatic in the JZX100 just isn't for me 2) always wanted a 300zx.. So here it is. 1994 300ZX non-turbo, 2+2, manual with TT tops.. Now, this car is now 28 years old. It has its little gremlins and needs a little TLC. Not to mention these just rust before your eyes so there is no way I want to drive this over winter. This leads me to my Lexus related content again.. I really struggle to find something within the budget that's: RWD, Manual, min. 200hp, LSD and not silly money.. Well you guessed it. I am getting another IS250, this will be my third one and let's hope it's gonna be the last one..at least for a good while. They have been such good cars to me previously it's hard to ignore it when it comes to getting something else, especially since the IS250 does everything I want. Keep an eye on this thread.. I will be doing some bits to it when I get it.1 point

Can I suggest, Herbie, ( your personal choice, of course ), that it is sedation AND pain-relief. I was given something to make me drowsy, something for pain(Fentanyl) and something to make me forget - I think. Gas and air was also an option. Being naturally shy, I've learnt that on occasions it's best to lay-my-cards on the table and share my anxiety and pain-aversion with all medical people concerned. They are always very receptive!1 point

Most space savers will not fit on the front. If you puncture on the front, replace with a rear, and put the saver on the rear. Not ideal, but it would get you moving temporarily.1 point

took her to a special ( so they tell me ) exhaust centre in Maidstone Kent today to get them to check out the front downpipe and box thingy ... my indy can't weld it up anymore at MOT time to stop emissions issues reading poorly ( there's nowt left to weld he tells me ) ......... awaiting a call back when they have investigated who, what, where and how they can do a renew - permanent fix to this now 27 years young problem with the exhaust .......... the one and only problem I've ever had with the exhaust, but quite annually these days it seems ... lost a couple of heat shields over the years where they have just about fallen off ...... age and miles eh ! ........... 238500 miles now I'll let you know how it all goes Malc1 point

After waiting over 9 months I was finally due to pick up my lovely new es300h tomorrow when I received a phone call to say that there was a problem. Essentially the dealer is saying they cant offer the finance deal at 4. 9 percent agreed at the point of sale due to lexus finance changing rates. They argued that other models were protected by an increase in financial contribution to mitigate the increase. Whereas the es300h was not protected and in fact there is now no contribution at all. They said that this left a gaping whole and as they had already discounted the car they had very little liverage. They have offered by a courtesy car in the interim whilst they speak to lexus UK. I am not happy at all. What a terrible experience after waiting 9.5 months!0 points
