I agree Ken, over 2 trips (mainly motorways) which each covered over 200 miles with no charge in the EV batteries other than the minimum 30% when the car switches to HV mode I’ve seen 49.5mpg and 53mpg, a substantial jump on my previous RX. It would be useful if, in one of those motoring reviews, one of them would perform a back to back near identical test on the 350h and the 450h (EV batteries depleted) to establish just how much this extra weight affects the 450h. My thinking is that it is not as much as suggested. I haven’t worked it out but the % difference in weight is not the same as it would be turning a Lotus into a PHEV.3 points

This has prompted me to get the adjustable one depicted here (not the ones linked to in the posting which are different). Apart from enabling me to reach the top of my car, I will be able to reach all my bungalow windows without using a pole, use the adjustment to reach and trim hedges and decorate internally and as a mobile tool rest when doing jobs. Being 'tight' by nature, I checked the net and apart from one seller who transposed models and another heavily criticised for scamming, Halfords were as cheap as anybody else for the adjustable 79023 model at £109-99 as it's currently on offer. I then used the Halfords discount card provided with my Lexus Gold Membership to get 15% off this price, reducing the bottom line cost to £93-49.2 points

To start with: - Fix the stupidity of privatization of public utilities. Nationalization (although happening in France) seems to be a dirty word. So next best thing is cap the percent of profits private companies can squeeze out of public utilities. Furthermore, a set percentage of those profits are mandated to be put back into infrastructure development and R&D. - De-couple gas prices from electricity generation. Only 40% of UK electricity is made from gas. Why the hell should its price be held ransom to the price of gas? - Taxation of motorists is used for motoring related infrastructure. You want money for other projects raise it from another source of revenue. This muddying of the public purse "oh let's put it in one pot, the plebs won't notice what we're doing" has to stop. - Ban companies lobbying politicians. Ban all gifts to politicians. - MPs can buy their own damn lunch. I can't believe the amount of food waste reported for Westminster, 2.6 million meals binned (although they don't state the period over which that happened). - MPs can no longer vote on their own salary rises. That is a no brainer right there. That's off the top of my head.2 points

Taken from an August 2016 Lexus Newsletter. 4. F Sport seats Like the IS and NX F Sport, RX F Sport has a front seat constructed using an integrated foaming method. This is where liquid foam is injected into the upholstery and allowed to set to reduce the likelihood of air pockets appearing between the foam and upholstery. The benefits of this is improved support and comfort, as well as an increase in the leather’s resistance to wear by cracking. The Tahara leather used in Lexus F Sport models is our alternative to leather. It weighs half as much, generates 65 per cent less CO2 and gives off no volatile organic compounds.2 points

Hi Glyn That was very informative and useful. It has spurred me into action and I have ordered front and rear flush fitting parking sensors and a front and rear dash cam. That lot will keep me out of mischief for a while! Ant2 points

I ordered the SC430mods rear view camera and it arrived today. I have just finished installing it and it was pretty straight forward apart from me knocking over my quarter inch socket set with stuff going everywhere and one socket rolling into a one inch round hole that was impossible to get to with no other access. Fortunately I was able to retrieve it with one of those telescopic magnet tools. I had visions of it rolling round while driving the car and in turn would have driven me nuts. I didn't use the camera fixing bracket as intended to fix behind the number plate but instead shortened the bracket to the size of the gap between the rear number plate lights and attached it in this gap with double sided tap. This did mean reattaching the camera to the bracket the other way up which was easy to do. The only other different thing I did was to run the wire to the camera through a hole I made in the rubber grommet in the boot which I will seal with some silicone rather than run the wires at the side of the grommet where they would be touching the metal bodywork. After all this I have come across a slight problem which I have contacted Calvin at SC430mods about in that the image is mostly black and white and the yellow parking lines are purple. Having said that it does work and is usable. This may be down to my clumsiness in fitting it or a faulty unit. I have also queried with Calvin as whether this may be related to an NTSC/PAL issue ie do SC430 Sat Navs in the UK use the PAL system to input to the screen and other markets use NTSC to input to the screen. I will report back when I here from Calvin. Ken - I will be interested to see if you have the same issue when yours is fitted rather than just me. If you haven't arranged fitting yet you might want to wait to see what Calvin comes back with. Calvin is a very straight guy who will sought things out for his customers. Here’s some photos bearing in mind I have two cameras. The one on the left is for the dash cam.2 points

I would go for used also as it is not a known to fail part you will have to be really unlucky to have another defective one. And even if you did 33 is a long way from 750+2 points

There are too many uncertainties at this stage regarding delivery timescales and they do change by the month Almost all manufacturers are struggling with this - VAG group have a lead time of almost 18 months on some cars so I don't doubt that Lexus is being fairly straightforward with their September 2023 delivery dates. The RZ doesnt seem massively expensive to me in comparison to every other manufacturer. New car prices have gone a bit mental and it now costs over £30k to get into a decent VW Golf, and over £45k to get into a new C-Class. I understand there are a lot of comparisons against Skoda etc but thats like comparing a Renault to a Bentley. There are a lot of people on this forum who seem to focus on entirely numbers rather than anything else like build quality for example.2 points

Just 2 days ago I had a test drive of a NX450h while I was waiting for a fast cosmetic repair on my 2016 RX, and I have been positively impressed. The NX works most of the time in EV mode in hybrid mode too, the main difference is the intervention of thermal engine at a speed far more higher than in RX (at about 70 km/h) , so in normal use it's like to drive a EV vehicle, till 120 km/h, Besides, I was worried of 4 cylinder sound compared to V6m but actually car is very quiet and it's a bit faster than RX450h, and also more rigid but still comfy. I ended test drive thinking it could be my next Lexus, even if I will keep my RX for a long time as it like new.2 points

Many of us here in the forum have been voting (or been able to) the last 50 years and we have all the blame for electing the fools that believe that making the rich richer is the way forward. Yes: The blame is on us. And, unfortunately: Most have learned nothing. Will vote for the same idiots again.2 points

I don't think it's required, for the level of damage covered by the 'Scratches and dents' policy wouldn't normally be anything covered in your (pukka) car insurance.2 points

Try contacting the Toyota CEO in Japan (akio.toyoda@toyota.co.jp). I had exactly the same problem with a query about my Surf (= Four-runner) a few years ago. The CEO answered quite quickly and was very helpful.1 point

If you have a Costco account, Peter, they are currently offering up to £100 off a set of CrossClimates+ . I don’t know if that includes your size, but in the past they did get me a set of discounted CrossClimates for my Accord despite them not being listed as one of the sizes on offer. And if approached they may even extend it to include the CC2s. So they seem pretty flexible.1 point

I paid £2250 for my Mk4, 13 years old (with over 100K on clock). Coming up to 10 years of Mk4 ownership, will need a new cam belt soon, and work on suspension. Not got away with as little as £1200 on core parts, but still say it has been the cheapest car ever owned, might use a little more gas than a fiesta, but a fiesta with 220K on clock would be a bit of a sorry thing to drive. I count myself more than lucky to have been an LS driver for 14 years in total, long may in continue1 point

Only thing is, the scrotes are already in your pride and joy before this comes into play, so they may damage something just in frustration and spite. Prevention is better than cure, which is why I use a big yellow steering lock (Stoplock Pro Elite).1 point

As some who is awaiting delivery of a new EV (Kia Niro) I can tell you that it was mostly about cost and driving experience rather than environmental factors. As my commute to work is now 3 miles, an EV is ideally suited and works well. The residuals look good and, despite the ever increasing cost of energy, it makes a good counter balance compared to my Stinger with regard to running costs.1 point

If you don’t have a large data allowance on your phone, don’t forget to pair yours/wife’s/girlfriend’s/boyfriend’s/kid’s phones to the hotspot so you aren’t using your phone allowance. I’ve put one in the RC and it is useful on longer journeys when her loveliness spends the time on youtube or watching films. I use A Smarty sim and get 4Gb for the price of a poorly octopus. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻1 point

It does make sense to get used one - even if you have to change used one every year for 10 years (including fitting costs), it is still going to be just about the same as fitting new one once. The only other thing I remembered - check alignment and other suspension components on that side. Because even for pothole to brake driveshaft would be very unlikely. More likely would be that some link or arm is slightly bent causing driveshaft to wear prematurely. So just make sure wheel aligns, nothing is lose and nothing is bent on that corner.1 point

I have had 4 new PHEV’s since 2015 - initially for tax saving but with the current one personally owned. In my case they suit my mostly local driving and also the acceleration is much better compared to a similar size petrol car. My very heavy RR Velar does 0 to 60 in just over 5s and over 6k miles has returned nearly 90mpg. It dives to about 30 mpg after the 30 mile EV range has been used. I think they are a great compromise as you have all the advantage of EV (including environmental) for local driving but no range anxiety issues on long journeys. I am looking to make my next car an EV mainly due to expected higher residuals in future years as well as great acceleration when needed. Ironically, at a time EV’s are bringing faster driving, local councils are introducing 20 mph limits and I wouldn’t be surprised if 50 mph limits were introduced on motorways. Still, that will add to the range of EV’s. I am looking to buy an RZ as the best car I have had (and kept the longest) was a 2008 GS450h which went like the clappers and at 3 years old looked inside and out brand new. I am hoping the RZ lives up to that.1 point

How much do you want to keep the car? How long do you want to keep the car? Is this a one off repair or the first of many likely age related repairs going forwards? The answers to the above will help decide. If you want to keep and use the car for a serious period, go new. Experience on this site suggests the car has many good years of use ahead and you have been unlucky on this issue.1 point

Odd, most owners in the EV forums seem to have changed due purely on cost have been business owners, most private owners have bought because they either felt they wanted to “help the planet” or they like the EV driving experience once tried. I don’t understand this EV evangelist thing, as owning an EV is completely dependent on circumstances and personal choice. Being an EV disparager seems to be forever on trend amongst the “petrolheads”.1 point

Yes absolutely , so why isn't industry and Govts doing the necessary research and commiting to this properly one wonders ..... I KNOW coal power stations can produce clean emissions, it's been done, just that no Govt wants to take it forward Absolutely NOT ..... far from blase about any of this BUT I do believe the Climate Change Brigade is causing populations around the world much misery in denying the need for better energy production and usuage styles to help those and OUR society to better and cleaner usuage ....... gluing oneself to the tarmac and diverting Emergency Services away from real peoples needs is just abhorrent in my mind I'm afraid that cremations of humans is within the Hindu religion and 1/5th of the worlds population won't be swayed by a non-starter of an argument to desist from the UK population ........ no matter how well meaning BUT there's simply not enough ( yet ) of non fossil fuels generation to meet the societal needs for simply economic " living " .... and about to cause immense hardship in society in general .. foodbanks or nay in the UK Malc1 point

Not sure if you’re still on the fence but got a used IS300h f sport recently and I’m over the moon with it. the amount of people that comment on it and how sharp it looks is unreal. Inside it certainly doesn’t feel like a used car. Very refined and luxurious. Can run it on 30 quid a week and the road tax is a tenner for the year. had an IS250 before hand and while I miss the noise of the v6 and the six speed gearbox the IS300h isn’t sluggish itself. hope you get sorted and if you’ve got any questions ping me a message.1 point

Correct, but the only place that hydrogen exists as a fuel is the sun, and it gives life to everything on this planet. Plants and algea learnt how to capture solar energy billions of years ago. Amazingly we have also managed to do the same with solar PVs. Yet for some reasons people still believe burning dead animals is the way fowards?? It's all pretty irrelevant now anyways as the climate is clearly changing quickly. The best we can hope for is we are all dead before we see our children suffer the consequences, though given the rate of change, wild fires now becoming 'normal' in London I fear none of us can get out of this the easy way.1 point

Hi Andy After October I will probably just run it purely as a hybrid as charging from home will be more expensive than running on petrol. Future tariff changes may swing the EV back to being cheaper so I don't regret opting for the 450h+ which is a great car even if its £10k more than the 350h.1 point

Absolutely correct Phil and a more technical description than I offered👍 No smell of fuel this morning, as described earlier, today has been sunny and didn’t touch the car all day. Opened the boot 10 mins ago, no smell of fuel then opened the drivers door……..I was a bit apprehensive to be honest and didn’t want to smell fuel. Glad to say I didn’t smell any fuel at all, just the smell of a 1998 LS400 and that’s it. I’m still not counting any chickens, time will tell if it’s fixed or not over the next few weeks.1 point

What really irritates me, is that when the energy ‘price cap’ was first announced the idea was for it to balance protection for consumers with protection for energy companies. As far as I can see it isn’t balancing anything any more - the only consideration is protecting energy companies. Given the number that went out of business over the last 12-18 months, I do (sort of) understand that…but then again, it’s less of a ‘cap’ now and feels like more of a ‘target.’1 point

These style of seats seem to be a feature of the F Sport, as embossed on the head restraints. Wherever they crop up in the online brochures and Lexus specs, they are described as ‘Flare Red leather seats’. And sometimes as a smooth leather. So unless another owner knows to the contrary, I suggest your sales guy speaks true! Just out of curiosity, did you get an old-fashioned printed brochure with the car? That would detail the options available with each level of spec.1 point

Well while I have been alive we have had 50% Labour leadership and 50% Tory leadership, and most analysts seems to be saying for last 50 years we have been under-investing in infrastructure. So we have poorer railways, poorer roads, poorer sewers, not far off breaking point electric supply, and lack of investment in gas storage. So we can expect broken suspensions (as I have had with my LS), less electric for your EV, and to be enjoying smelly water for some time to come. Welcome to Broken Britain (I was once in a Citroen C2 and hit a pothole at 20mph and it stalled the car and cut the electrics out for 3 minutes. Heaven knows what actually happened, I suspect my LS would have registered a complaint but not stopped for 3 minutes while it gathered its senses.)1 point

When I filled up with fuel just after I took delivery on 1/3/2022, the range indicated (from memory) 529. Although I've not taken enough notice to measure exactly, the indicated electric range does seem to be accurate. If I have air con on then it usually indicates 38 miles on a full charge, but on warmer days - yes we've had one or two in Yorkshire this week, then it shows 42 or 43 range, which is what I've achieved give or take a mile. It will also depend on terrain. Hope that's useful.1 point
