  1. Some of you would have seen me have a little wobble and was recently thinking of selling my LS460, having had more of a look out there to see what is about for the money and in speaking with a couple of club members I really have realised that these are great cars and show real value for money. Mine has cost very little in repairs and servicing and been extremely reliable and comfortable, it was suggested by my wife that me having 3 cars was a bit excessive so I thought I would try and sell one, I just picked the wrong one ! so if you know anyone who wants to but a Mercedes slk280 2006 with 45k on the clock I could be ya man! So I had a couple of hours this afternoon and sat back and thought what would I do to extend the pleasure of owning the LS460 and thought the two bumpers could have a respray and as the MOT highlighted some wear in the front top suspension bushes I would renew these. I have been on the phone with PSB in Bournemouth and they have been most helpful so now I have bought all 12 bushes for the front so will report back as to the effect of this once my garage has fitted them. I was quite impressed as they say they make poly bushes as an alternative to standard and not as, many other manufacturers do, for performance. That along with the recent 4 new Michelin's I added should give me an MOT without any advisories and a car that should be good for another 80K miles. Thanks to all those who contributed to settling my wobble I look forward to contributing to the board for a while yet. PJ

  4. So last month ,when locking my 2016 rx450 i noticed my drivers mirror was not auto nor manually folding back. Getting back inside i fold that my drivers door rest multifuntional control unit no longer operated my drivers door. However switching over to the passenger side, i was still able to fully control the mirror in tilt and fold. (Surprisingly both mirrors still displayed the orange Blind spot monitoring warning). I had also lost all functions of the 3 memory set buttons. I could manually move the drivers seat in all directions to where i wanted it, but not from memory switches. The drivers mirror offerred no resistance, like it had suffered terminal damage from being snapped fully back going thru automatic car washes. Looking on this forumn i tried all the resets of the seats like fully back, fully forward, up,down etc but made no difference. I even took the full door panel off (easy) and re-pushed together every visible connection, but made no difference. Was even lent a full multi function control unit from a friends rx and still made no difference. So this weekend in the glorious sunshine i crawled underneath my dash to access the narrow rectangular fuseboard. Using a pair of long nose pliers rather than the official supplied Lexus plastic fuse removal cramp (grip failed so quickly) i proceeded to remove every single fuse then refit, pushed home firmly. Upon getting out of my car after finding NO Blown fuses i gave up. Pushed the locking keyfob and both mirrors folded back. Jumped back inside and all controls to mirrors and seat memories were back to as good as new. Dont know what/fuse it actually was, but just wanted to share my experience if may help somebody sometime.

  5. Or use the switch to disable the passenger operated switches, that's what I do on my RX.

  6. Lexus offer digital wing mirrors as an option on the ES. On my recent purchase of the Takumi edition I opted for this after having an extensive test with my Lexus dealer in Preston. One has to realise they are very different to plain glass mirrors and the view on the monitors in the car has not the same pin sharp clarity of a glass mirror. However , with the addition of all the warning symbols superimposed on the digitial view it makes driving with them very safe to use. The digital view changes with reversing and turn signal activation to give a wider view. Parking is easier as the guide lines are superimposed on the view and coupled with 360 view makes positioning the car very straight forward. I had perfect parking kerbside when aligning the guide lines. Folding of the mirror cameras can be programmed to move when the doors are locked. any down side ? Er yes. When driving at night the camera has to deal with car headlights from the rear and yet still show the road as well. the digital view does this reasonably well but the headlights tend to halo in the digital view. Despite this the digital view you get is still safe enough to use. One has to remember the digital view is not as well defined as with glass mirrors at night time. I have yet to confirm how they perform in the dark and raining. The digital screens in the car are fixed position and not adjustable might not suit all drivers heights depending on their seat position. However one has to barely move your head and can view LHS and RHS of the car just by glancing at the screen. This morning it was quite cold and the digital view seemed blurred due to condensation on the camera lens housing. This was cleared very quickly cleared with the mirror / rear window heaters. Being a person of shorter stature I find them really helpful in parking using the guide lines as the ES is not a small car. I looked on line to gather further information of these units and apart from one comparison between the Audi E camera version I couldn’t find much beyond one in Japanese showing the functions. They do take time to get used to under different driving conditions took me about a week to fully trust and have faith in the display , however they’ll be like marmite love them or hate them.

  7. A car with climate control and all its clean air filters keeping the scum from your nostrils, what sort of muppet opens a window? Nothing wrong with the car, get better passengers who don't fiddle!

  8. Hi Ivan. The dealership should be able to tell you this. Who is your dealer? I see you are based in Essex - is it Lexus Woodford? If so then they can definitely give you this information as they were able to give me the name of the ship that my NX came across on. Failing that - maybe try Lexus Customer Relations (email:- cr@lexus.co.uk).

  9. Having just changed my ES from 2018 premium edition to the new 2022 Takumi edition I would agree with the comments of Colin. However I’d like to add some subjective views as well….. The ride quality on the Takumi is subtly different I would say very slightly firmer ride. Due to the suspension and chassis change on the 2022 model. Which improves the cornering and handling whilst still maintaining a smooth ride. Subjectively it seems quieter inside when driving can barely hear the engine when accelerating. I opted for the digital wing mirrors , now there a thing . I like them now that I am used to them but I suspect they’ll, be like Marmite love them or hate them but I’ll put a new post about these. If you like your sound and being an audio fan you will be impressed with the Mark Levenson 17 speaker sound system when the sweet spot of volume is reached ( ~36 level volume control ). It’s an extremely smooth and balanced sound with rich deep bass with no boominess. Lexus still have the CD/ DVD player. I tried the DVD ‘pearl harbour’ whacked up the volume and OMG had planes flying all around the car interior awesome….. The headlights are a dream. The best road illumination I have ever seen a very uniform white light projection in front of the car . The HUD display easy to view and not compromising the drivers view. The Lexus ES 300 Takumi edition is a luxurious saloon catering very well for the driver and passengers. I suppose only a LS would surpass the ES but with a cost premium.

  12. There's a reason why we in the computer industry always tell people to switch it off and back on again. A fault condition can be held until power is removed. Once the power has been interrupted, things have a chance to reset and the fault often clears.

  13. Regarding about the tailgate locking, did you try to step away from it to let it lock? It won't lock if your key is still near the tailgate. There is a video for your reference.

  14. Hi Don Very pleased with the car so far but only covered 250 miles to date - a large part in ev mode and getting to grips with the new features. EV range indicator is very accurate and the change from ev to ice is barely noticeable. Drove 13 miles in hv/ev mode to charge the traction battery and gained about 6 miles however consumption dropped to 30mpg and the engine noise intrusion would make me avoid this option in future. HUD is brilliantly clear as is the 360 degree camera. Fit and finish is first class and ev charging very straightforward. Awaiting the install of the ev charger but using a 3 pin plug at present. The car recognising my profile is a bit hit or miss as discussed elsewhere in the loc. Only problem that I am having is with the internal tailgate switch locking option not working - get 2 beeps but nothing happens. Also the ev reverse warning to pedestrians is barely audible. I also miss the panoramic roof that I enjoyed on my old NX. Will update as I cover more miles and head to the petrol station to calculate the overall mpg.

  16. In my personal opinion, both the camera prices and the fitting prices are way over the top. There are many, many dashcams out there and all do the same job. Personally, I went with the Viofo A129 Duo which, as the name suggests, is a front and rear system. Very small and discreet it can be left in situ 24/7 and is hardly noticeable from outside at all. I fitted it all myself and it's an easy job for any reasonable DIY'er. I can understand that you may not want to start dismantling a brand new car so if you don't want to DIY, just take it to a good auto-electrician or car audio specialist. There's nothing Lexus-specific about dashcams - all cams will work in all cars.

  20. Purchased a Is 250 (2012 Advance with 120000) last month and so far so good and really enjoying the calmness and to be honest pretty awesome interior especially for the age and mileage. As someone else has commented the ride is stiffer than I imagined after coming from a Corolla T sport but not bad by any means. Anyhow just thought I’d better say hi and throw a few pics up,really happy with the colour:) A little unsure as to whether to add(if I can find any that is) the front fog light lips you get on the f sport?

  23. Nope, not a Lexus LFA with 2k on the clock 😀 I always thought those YT vids of people pulling old classics from a barn in the middle of nowhere were staged. Well last weekend it was a big birthday for my son, so we hired a large oast house down in Sussex as a surprise and invited extended family down to celebrate. There was an old barn just on the edge of the entrance road to where we stayed and my youngest saw a pony being groomed just beside the barn so we wandered down there to have a closer look. Inside there was a ride on mower and two old cars. One was tarped up and the other was just sat there covered in layers of dust. I took a note of the reg on the tarped up car and it turns out it was a 1960 Alvis TD 21 in blue with 33k on the clock and has been off the road since 2017 The other is a Triumph GT6 Wonder if they will ever see the light of day again

  25. I have the Hazel interior in a Graphite black/Hazel combo. Think it looks good and gives a matching headlining to keep it light. Chose it as I previously had the Ochre cream leather (with a panoramic roof which I do miss! 🙁) . I love the Fuji Red paintwork option but was unsure as how it would look with a Hazel trim so played safe! Interior pic below.

  26. Yes UK ES300h can handle FLAC off of USB. Mind you I don't have ML, my pioneer system does, but according to owners manual both pioneer and ML should be able to handle FLAC.

  29. When I had mine done on the LS460 I tried a good replacement but when it arrived it was not right so I settled for a genuine Lexus unit which with our membership discount I thought quite reasonable. My car was 13 years old with about 76k when done.

  30. You're right Ant, I do need to use it more, it was previously clocking up 10-12k miles per annum but I have 2 other Lexus that are doing most of the hard yards at the moment. I do start it up frequently, the reasons for disconnecting the negative lead on the battery are mostly due to my constant messing around with modifications. 😊

  31. Yes, 18". It still seems to ride okay with these but I have no other reference. It came with 4 new 'nasty' tyres but I will run with them for now. At least they are all the same brand. To be honest, I'm not sure you buy one of these to rag about but by the same token I'd prefer to stay out of ditches if possible...

  32. Today I went to collect a new front bumper skin for my wife's Suzuki Swace and yes I was guilty of putting an irreparable dint in it! Now not many people know this but it did fit in my topless SC430 with one end down into the passenger footwell. What I then noticed was the bubble wrap and quality checked tape which was around it ( Lexus and Toyota ). After some thought the answer clicked: The part came from Toyota as the Swace shares a body with the Toyota Corolla Estate!

  33. 2 interesting points of engineering to note: 1. LS was designed to be so well built that the first 60k miles should show no deterioration from new; 2. Interior nvh designed to be so quiet that you can hold a normal conversation at 60 mph without raising voices. Both points work in action! But remember this car cost around £100k new and running costs are therefore high although I imagine still lower than rivals. In contrast, took a friend’s nice high spec E class to Mercedes dealer which was an enormous shed lacking in any real human interaction or customer care. Decided then and there I will not spend a small fortune on the S class only to be treated like that! Good choice too…

  36. Consistent customer experience and reliability of the vehicles are the two main reasons why I keep buying Lexus cars. I did consider switching to others at time, but the (relatively) poor reliability of German competitors and the lack of interest of dealership staff mean that I will continue buying Lexus cars. My local dealer is Lexus Southampton (Hedge End) and the quality of service you receive there echoes what you have experienced in Preston.

  37. Courtesy and politeness can work both ways. The saleslady at Bolton Lexus told me she loves working there because they have nicer clientele than other manufacturer dealers.

  38. A man wakes up in the hospital, bandaged from head to foot. The doctor comes in and says, "Ah, I see you've regained consciousness. Now, you probably won't remember, but you were in a pile-up on the motorway. You're going to be okay, you'll walk again and everything but I'm trying to break this to you gently, the fact is, your willy was chopped off in the wreck and we were unable to find it." The man groans, but the doctor goes on, "You've got £9,000 in insurance compensation coming and we have the technology now to build you a new willy that will work as well as your old one did - better in fact! But the thing is, it doesn't come cheap. It's £1,000 an inch." The man perks up at this. "So," the doctor says, "It's for you to decide how many inches you want. But it's something you'd better discuss with your wife. I mean, if you had a five inch one before, and you decide to go for a nine incher, she might be a bit put out. But if you had a nine inch one before, and you decide only to invest in a five incher this time, she might be disappointed. So it's important that she plays a role in helping you make the decision." The man agrees to talk with his wife. The doctor comes back the next day. "So," says the doctor, "have you spoken with your wife?" "I have," says the man. "And what is the decision?" asks the doctor. "We're having granite worktops"

  39. I ordered a Land Rover Discovery Sport in August 21. Even then, the top tech features weren't available, due to the chip shortages. Initially given a delivery time of 5-7 months, then 7-9 months (this was for a plug-in hybrid that they were prioritising). I checked with my dealer in January to be told that the spec had been reduced even more, there was no indication when delivery would be; they couldn't even guarantee that I would get the car! So, no idea when I would get it, if I would get it or what the final spec would be. I cancelled the order and ordered an NX 450h+ Takumi with an estimate of May/June delivery (August at latest), full spec available. Delivery estimate has not changed. The Discovery Sport owners forum is in near melt-down with orders being cancelled by the dealers, no-one has a clue when they are getting their cars and what the final spec will be.

  40. I took delivery of my 450h+ Premium Plus with sunroof today. Graphite with Hazel leather. Have only driven 20 miles so far (all ev) but hugely impressed. Lexus Edinburgh have been superb as always and the handover was to be savoured! Stuart Wilson deserves special mention - he took time to explain the features of the car and his knowledge of the new NX is encyclopaedic! Now need to learn these myself! Pics-

  41. Neither do I. If one says they don’t like the electric locks, they all do and they’re absolutely fine. How else are you going to include this bike and vehicle protection, you’d have to have some electrical mechanical de-couple device which would cost a fortune and be unreliable. Then they jump on the run flat bandwagon. I think they flick through a few reviews to see what other are writing before going to the trouble of making their own full assessment. This NX of mine with 20 inch wheels is super compliant over the bumps.

  42. Regarding ML, my last NX had it and I thought it sounded very good. I’ve not got it in this current NX and I’ve not had it long enough to form a complete opinion but I can’t imagine that side by side, a 17 speaker including a sub system isn’t going to sound richer than a 10 speaker without. It is a pity that it isn’t a stand alone option rather than restricting it to the Takumi.

  43. Another thing I love about my 2022 NX is that I still haven't seen another one on the road 😄

  44. Tein make a couple of options - Tein As do BC Racing - BC KW v3 available too, but those cost megabucks. BTW, you might find the above cheaper elsewhere, just using those links to prove they exist.

  45. I would be very surprised if there is any difference for the UK market as all markets use the OBD2 interface, I believe. What diagnostic tool are you looking to buy? I have an application for my Android phone called Torque which costs about £3 to buy. All you need is an ELM327 bluetooth interface device (about £4 off eBay) to plug into your OBD2 port and you can easily cover most of your diagnostic needs. I also use the Techstream software which does everything you could ever need.
