Well, it looks like my ownership of my Rx300 is coming to an end. The leaking rear diff was just a prelude to more expense. There is now a significant droning noise from a bearing somewhere in either the transfer box or the front differential. Unfortunately my mechanic couldn't pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Even running it up on a ramp suggests the noise is from somewhere up front. That and my MOT tester telling me that the rear subframe is now a year or so away from a fail, it's sadly time to part with the beast. It's been one of the best car's I've ever owned, probably the best. But considering the current fuel prices, the problems indicate it's probably time to look for something more economical. Can I just say thanks to all the people that have helped here on the forum with advice and information. Special mention to Herbie for his wisdom and library of documents. Thanks for everything.6 points

Just had the first MOT done (slightly early), perfect pass. 31K miles of faultless, trouble-free driving. The CT a great car.4 points

I managed to get the roof lining AND sunroof out just by moving the front seats as far back as possible and reclining them as far as possible! I checked the procedure in the workshop manual and it was easy enough; just awkward. Turns out the metalwork around the glass panel is a rusty mess. It hasn't entirely disintegrated but it's beyond saving. And the mechanism is jammed on the passenger side. Driver's side moves freely. It was full of rust and debris and even cleaned out it wouldn't move. So I've ordered a complete replacement (second hand from eBay, not from Paul this time!). Folks, if you have a sunroof, open it from time to time and give it a check over! And some TLC if it needs it! As a side note I also found why the driver's seat rocked back slightly when I sat on it - one of the front bolts was only in half way... and cross-threaded. Seriously. So I removed it (with some effort), cleaned up the bolt, applied a little grease and refitted it. There was enough thread left on it that it went in with some effort. Problem solved!3 points

I am not a hooligan, I am a 'spirited' driver! š It was the first few weeks into ownership, car had PSS which were mega low on tread and I drove it EVERYWHERE like I stole it, rung its neck at every opportunity. 9.6 mpg was the lowest it ever showed and tbh I don't think I have ever driven it that hard since, on some twisty roads I have got into the low teens a few times. Average about 23-26 these days. Must have been all the right/ wrong circumstances to make it happen š2 points

Could you send me a couple of seeds off that tree please and what has shampoo got to do with your workshop š2 points

Hello Lexus owners! Today I am proud to say I have become the owner of this 2004 GS430 Sport. My partner is Canadian and can only drive automatic so we came to an agreement that if I buy an automatic, she will be able to drive it, but I get to choose what car, and here we are. I'm already in love with it. I come from a Mazda background but this feels really premium, I cannot believe the lack of road noise. The gentleman I bought it off has told me it has the Y section and behind with an aftermarket exhaust, as well as TTE rear shocks which neither was listed in the advert, but was a great surprise. The only thing I am not loving is the obvious fuel prices.... However, I am able to walk to work, so it is purely a weekend car. My main query is, should I be running it on premium? For the trip home I decided to opt for Shell V power as I wasn't sure, but I assuming it is the right choice. This example seems to be well looked after, no rust in the typical spots, minimal bodywork damage (at least no obvious damage in the hideous weather today), no knocks or bangs (besides the rigid rear shocks) and a recent cambelt / water pump replacement. Thanks for reading, I cannot wait for the weekend to give it a clean and go for a proper drive in the dry!1 point

Hi, today I went from Swansea to Huddersfield. 260 miles one way. 77mph cruise control most of the time. 33MPG on computer. I put petrol in Huddersfield and 36 litres to make it full again. What a wonderful car! I would never believe it if I hadn't tried it. Thank you Lexus:)1 point

Hi everyone. As of today I am the proud owner of a 2018 LC500 (Infrared, black interior) purchased - strangely - from BMW Mini in Sunningdale. I've spent several months obsessing over the car "on paper" before finally pulling the trigger a couple of weeks ago. Past cars include the E63 M6 (V10), Audi C7 S6 (V8 TT) and a couple of Alpinas (E39 B10V8 and E34 B10 BiTurbo) - and the LC seems to be the ultimate "if you get it, you get it" car. It ticks so many boxes for me. [Admittedly it doesn't feel like a fantastic time to be buying a V8 but if you look at it another way, perhaps it's now or never š ] The biggest issue I have right now is deciding between using it as a frequent driver and keeping it pristine, tucked away in the garage except for occasional use. These are so special and rare that part of me really wants to use it sparingly, but all the cars I've really bonded with and enjoyed (like those listed above) were used as my main car. I don't think I'm great at having significant amounts of money tied up as automotive art / toys no matter how lovely they are, and besides - if you like being in the car and driving it, then wouldn't you want to do that as often as you can? š Interested to hear how others have addressed this - I'm sure I'm not the only one to be torn between the two options! Anyway look forward to getting to know the rest of the community that "get it" š1 point

Unlike previous manufacturers' warranties, it seems, having just enquired, the new Lexus 'Relax' warranty offers no normal 1 month or 1000 mile leeway when it comes to the warranty ending/being valid. So basically, you must get a service done on/before time (12 months max) and within 10k miles (max) or run the risk of not being covered in the interim if you exceed those parameters. I still feel it's a shame Lexus isn't offering servicing without an obligatory, attached 'free' (not) warranty and did away with the Essential Care package that offered such good value for older Lexi (is that the plural?). Anyway, just putting this out there as a warning folks.1 point

Recently, the blower motor on my IS250 started to make a horrible rumbling sound which was more prominent at higher settings but gradually got worse. A new motor from Lexus is pushing Ā£500 and one from a breaker about Ā£70 to Ā£100. Of course a used one might end up the same depending on mileage. A quick look on Youtube found the following video on removing and dismantling the fan. I took his advice and bought a couple of small ball bearings and fitted them but they didn't work and were very noisey. I removed the 2 bronze bushes and measured them and the shaft from the fan. The shaft was approx 8mm and the bushes had an inside diameter slightly bigger but had worn badly causing the fan to rock. The outside diameter of the bushed was 14mm and about 14.5mm long. A search resulted in finding a supplier of new oilite self lubricating bushes but imperial. 5/16 x 9/16 x 3/4 which are very close. So having bought two of these and some new Starlock washers, I basically started an 8mm drill through the center to slightly enlarge the hole and kept trying them for a fit over the shaft until it was a smooth fit. Next I had to reduce the outside diameter a fraction so I could press them into the plastic carrier in the coil windings. Assembled everything with a new Starlock washer and the fan is now whisper quiet. All done for just over Ā£10. One other thing is that the guy in the video describes the circular disc under the locking washer as a thrust washer. It is actually magnetic and I think has a part to play in the electronics so don't break it. I also took out the top washer of three at the bottom of the shaft and put a copper washer so the flanged bush would bear and run on that. Taking the fan out and pulling apart can be done in minutes. Links to video and suppliers below. The whole process is much easier than reading the above would have you believe. https://www.hendersonbearings.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/74546 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1632594945351 point

Yes, but the risk is you turn up for a service at 13-months and they say you need a new xyz at Ā£5,000 and you are not covered and won't qualify for Relax again unless the xyz is fixed.1 point

@Caspa All we can do is wait & see, I guess there is likely to be a few events which may influence this either way not yet foreseen. TBH any deviation from the original delivery date, within reason, doesnāt bother me. More important, from my perspective, is the fact that both the purchase price and p/x value are contractually locked in irrespective of what the resulting end delivery date is.1 point

I installed the module. Just for info as i have the 2015 IS300h - the TPMS module for me was the BX and is located on the passenger side for a RHD car. Start by remove bottom seat - the just lift up and forward you can see the latch that hold the hook place Next remove the 12mm bolt - you only need to remove that one With the bolt removed lift forward and lift up to unhook the side bolster Using a flat head screwdriver unclip the seatbelt latch and slide seatbelt out Lift the footwell cover - i didn't remove it fully it or the side panel cover just enough to remove the C-Pillar cover partially You can see the TPMS module as stated mines is BX - unplug the module and plug in the tpms reader module using plug and play Check your dash - Note that calibration maybe required (i can post instructions later if required but it basically involved deflating all tyres at different pressure level before setting back to correct pressure) On mines it registered in the following sequence: - front passenger - rear passenger - front driver i didnt wait long enough for rear driver to register. Reinstall everything in reverse order. total time 25mins Job done š1 point

Love that. Massive kahunahs!! That is a wonderful thing, and a great colour combo. Pre facelift it'll be the glorious 4.2, and is the auto, or the duo select? Brilliant, keep us informed how you get on.1 point

Another vote for the red interior,I think itās just that little bit different and have had many compliments on the colour,as for the exterior colour thatās a tough one but the Sonic titanium does look so good and slightly different depending on the light. Its a tough one!1 point

I tend to get 30-34MPG on a motorway run in normal mode. It's a great cruiser and I almost can't believe how comfortable it is and how "fine" I feel getting out even after a few hours of driving. The tank is 66litres (14.5 imp gallons), so it should be possible to get 450+ miles from a tank under ideal conditions. I've also seen 12-15mpg at times. Not sure about single digits, @hockeyedwards how did you achieve this you hooligan? š1 point

That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Their adverts are keen to say that even if you've had it serviced elsewhere, if you take it to them for a service you automatically get the 'free' Relax warranty for 12 months. So, say you're a month late, that means that you've been running around for a month without any warranty cover, but the moment it completes a service at a Lexus dealership, surely the clock starts ticking again on a new 12 months of cover?1 point

As I have the Superman combo on order it's obviously a red vote from me! My first three Lexus were black interior (silver, blue, blue) and the last three have been red (blue, black, silver) as the black became boring for me. Think all the previous were a darker shade of red though... Multiple dealers have said the Superman combo sells really well and my own experience definitely backs that up.1 point

That's actually a clever idea. The old style on the back of the filler cover, you could easily close the cover and forgetting to screw in the filler cap. With the version in the picture, the filler cover won't close due to the filler cap obstructing the hinge, so you can't forget.1 point

Just goes to prove what I said earlier - no rhyme or reason to it at all. I was caught doing 44 in a 30, given Ā£100 fine and 3 points, and that put my insurance up by Ā£120 per year until the points drop off!!1 point

I'e got a white/red RX and it always gets compliments on the interior. I had black before and its just boring. Id argue that the grey exterior is pretty boring too. Just bear in mind that almost all of the NX's on the road will be black/white/grey. Go for something different - Blue w/ white would be my go to. Its one of the reasons you opted for Lexus in the first place after all!1 point

You can get a Bosch or Fram air filter from ebay for less than Ā£10. Either will do exactly the same job as a Lexus one.1 point

So after replacing the ECT temp sensor the mpg going to work and back has improved, now averaging 25mpg rather than 20mpg before. As mentioned earlier, after replacing the front lower ball joints most of the suspension noise/clunk has gone when coming off over speeds bumps etc. I've also noticed that when driving over rough surfaces the 'rattling' suspension noise has gone, its feels/sounds tighter and no suspension rattling means less rattling in the cabin if anything is slightly loose. I put that down to the new ball joints 100%. Looked like they have not been replaced for a long time and maybe not replaced since new. I didn't need brute force to batter the ball joint off using a fork splitter because I have a proper removal so I didn't damage them when removing and could inspect them. I'm not an expert on how to tell if a ball joint is worn too much, apart from it being really obvious and a massive amount of play, but when wiggling and moving the ball joint after removal there didn't seem to be a lot of play at all. Moving side to side though there was a metal on metal noise so they were worn but not totally knackered.1 point

The fuel computer never reads under š 36 litres = 7.919 imperial gallons 32.8 mpg which is very respectable and pretty close to the computer's reading, normally it overstates by more than that.1 point

Smidge of an update, it was about Ā£20 more to get a new one over reconditioning. I ordered from autodoc, matched the plug to mine and made sure it was 100A. Got a phonecall 2 days later 'the part you've ordered is wrong' Had a good chinwag with the most helpful guy ever, I stated my problem in finding a 100A with correct connector and had done my best to get the correct part, annoyingly the one that came out the car didn't have any markings on it in the slightest!! However, it seems they double checked the part against my reg and then VIN, as reg brings up different options, assured me it had the correct plug and was 100A. So I've trusted them and had to cough up another Ā£13!! That's like 1L of petrol in todays climate š Was notified it was dispatched yesterday, so we'll see what happens! Scrolling back through, missed a few Q's, car is at 145k (ish) miles, paperwork file that came with it shows a receipt for a recon alternator but cannot remember if it was 2005 or 2015 on the date. It most definitely had a mixed and tough life before me, still has a drift bar welded in on the rear š Just waiting on H&S to come sign off the workshop and once the money tree at the end of the garden starts to sprout, we'll be good to tear her down š1 point

this is just brilliant .......... over 22 years driving a Ls400 people have been in quite some awe of me and my car ... well, the car really that long ago coz they were new and rare to be seen on the roads . then a bit more common . but now, again in awe coz it's so rare to see one on the roads I've probably driven 250k miles over those years in a Ls400 .... I've enjoyed supreme comfort, style, reliability, power and acceleration at Will and by the bucket load .. and enjoyed every single moment of my motoring, the UK, Ireland and much of Europe ....... Ok there's a few dings from time to time and this old lady is now a quite presentable but Cat N ...........4 ltr V8 limo I would earnestly encourage you to drive your cars to the fullest you can, to enjoy every minute of owning your car and not to worry too much about the inevitable odd dings and dents Life is for living and one fine day it will all come to a sudden STOP ...... so Just get out there and ENJOY ........ it's so important to do so ... don't live to regret not enjoying your car Malc1 point

I just want to say two more things. Back in 1973 my dad got a brand new car. OK, it was 'only' a Morris Marina Estate but in our street/neighbourhood/circle of friends it was almost unheard of to own a brand new car and it cost him a lot of money at the time. Thing is, we lived in a street of terraced houses with no driveway or garage and he just had to park it outside the house. I know traffic wasn't as bad back then but we still had double-decker buses, trucks and all manner of vehicular traffic passing by. When I asked if he was worried about it getting damaged he just laughed and said no - he couldn't do anything about it and there were plenty of other things in life to worry about. I am absolutely not making light of the war but, four weeks ago someone in Ukraine may have had an LC500 (or some other car that they loved equally as much) locked away in a garage because they were paranoid of someone dinging a door panel or whatever. My point is, you never know what's round the corner so get it out and enjoy it now, for tomorrow may never come.1 point
-
I have a 2019 infrared with black interior also, a real eye catcher. For everyday short trips I use my SUV that is well protected on the door panels. My concern with the LC for everyday is parking as the car is pristine and I want to keep it that way at least for now. I am paranoid of someone dinging the door panel.1 point

Sorry for yet another reply to my own post but this is the rubber o ring i'm looking for. Does anyone have a part number? EDIT: Anyone else with this issue the part numbers are, Water outlet pipe O-Ring = 9676135025 (16306A) Water inlet housing gasket = 1632531010 (16325) They're both marked with faint red arrows in the picture. The big red one is what is leaking on mine causing steam from under the bonnet. I'll get some pictures/video when i replace mine to help others repair their issues.1 point

Not Bluetooth 5.0 then Could be aptX HD (AAC) or another Codec that the LS is too old to recognise causing it, but normally Bluetooth negotiates a common Codec during the pairing process. To test different settings, enable Developer Mode on your phone (https://www.bestusefultips.com/enable-developer-options-in-oneplus-6/) and go to Developer Options in the Settings menu. There are a whole variety of Bluetooth Audio settings in there that you can switch on/off. Try them one at a time and see if they fix the problem. You will need to re-pair after each change.1 point

So ive finally got this thing back on the hub dyno to have the boost turned up, boost controller, and 2step launch control setup. This visit was straight forward no issues to report, it made 633 at the hubs and 510flbs at 30psi. Turbo at this point was pretty much at its limit, so the boost was pegged back to 27psi just so the turbo was sitting at a happy, comfortable place. Final figure was 601 at the hubs and 483flbs. Im over the moon with it. I've only tried high boost once and it is absolutely insane! Scary quick! VID-20211022-WA0004.mp4 Also had to test out the 2step/rolling anti lag of course š¤£. VID-20211021-WA0009_1.mp4 So after 4yrs and 3months of graft blood sweat and tears I've finally got the point I dreamt of. We all know these projects are never finished so there will always be little things to do but for now I'm just going to drive and enjoy the damn thing.1 point
