Had the opportunity to test drive the NX 350h today. Should have been the 450h+ however a last minute change of plan resulted in the 350h arriving which allowed comparison with my 300h. It was the Takumi model and I have got to say that I am hugely impressed and its a giant leap forward in comparison to the 300h (which I think is a fantastic car). The overall appearance is distinctly Lexus but it's the interior which gives the wow factor. The dashboard is extremely driver friendly and the touchscreen very responsive. The HUD is very clear. The ride is noticeably smoother than the 300h, acceleration swifter, noise levels unobtrusive and the car feels very well built and sure footed. Fit and finish is superb - as you would expect in a Lexus - (including the centre console which has been mentioned previously as a potential problem area!). Tailgate opening/closing speed is much quicker. Test route was a mix of motorway, town and country and the car displayed over 41mpg. Think Lexus are onto a winner here and I look forward to a test drive of the 450h+.3 points

Like Paulrnx I have also sold my 2020 Lexus NX. I didn't find the Hybrid side of the vehicle particulary economical so I've now gone plug in Hybrid by buying a year old Ford Kuga ST First Edition PHEV plug in hybrid in a similar metallic red colour as my Lexus. The Kuga will do 25-30 miles on a charge fully electric and has some advantages over the Lexus. However I know I will miss having 4X4, the reliability and the super luxury offered by Lexus. I would not have changed my car but I was tempted by getting more more for it from Cazoo than I paid for it in March from Lexus Cambridge. The used market was depressed then but it's red hot at the moment for several reasons, not least the waiting time for new cars to come out of the factory. I can't rule out returning to Lexus but if I do it will be a plug in or a full EV model, when I can afford to buy one used, so I intend remaining on the Forum. If anyone is interested I have a nice Lexus NX REZAW-PLAST boot liner listed on eBay with a start price of £15+£5 postage. Best wishes Phil2 points

I think it depends on what cars have been owned previously, as the tendancy is to compare them to your latest purchase. Also, expectation v reality can sometimes be two different entities.1 point

No consolation I know but makes that dash cam a must, instant not at fault evidence then upload to one of those YouTube dash cam sites for confirmation from 1000s of independent views.1 point

Hi John Loving it so far, although the weather's not been too conducive to even sitting in it on the drive!!! I gave it a good clean and polish inside and out and there's no way you would think it was over 10 years' old. Mine does tend to rattle a bit too, and a search on the internet seems to bring up a whole multitude of reasons for this .... and solutions, but I think that I will simply need to take it out on a very long drive to see where it's coming from before attempting any resolution.1 point

I often check the MoT history of a car when I get the reg number - it keeps me up to date on the kind of things that cars fail on. Mostly it's trivial - things like lights (number plate lights are a favourite), wiper blades, seized brakes (often shown as brake imbalance), tyres (not trivial). As cars get older things like worn ball joints, corrosion (esp brake pipes but body too) and exhaust faults crop up. Most of these are things you can easily check before submitting your car for MoT. Nico - did you tell them about the SRS light or did you just ask for MoT and Service - 'cos that's what you got - in that order! With newer cars more or less any dash light showing will cause an MoT fail (or incorrect operation of a dash light - eg non-display of a light (eg engine management or ABS) on switch on will fail). Some specific lights showing on older cars are OK. If you watch Wheeler Dealers try checking the MoT history of the cars they do (only UK ones of course). It's very revealing - especially of stuff Edd China didn't fix! ☹️ Glad you're happily reunited with the car, Nico!1 point

Oh yes, I have no problem to replace fuel pump if that is indeed the issue. The problem is to figure out where the issues is. Where I am at the moment - I am waiting until I finish working today and will need to move car inside the garage and start troubleshooting fuel delivery. It is good video (seen it before), I guess it is more user friendly than following the steps in maintenance manual, more "visual".1 point

I must say that I've given up reading Club Lexus. Americans to me, or at least those who frequent that forum, seem like a bunch of moaning, complaining, whining muppets.1 point

You can see a fuel pump being replaced if it is that - forward to 21:001 point

Blimey Linas that's weird but as stated I'd suggest that since you filled the car up with premium fuel and with that fuel having detergents within its probably started a clean up of the fuel system but unfortunately its dislodged some crap hence blocking the fuel lines. Test this by seeing if any fuel comes out of a fuel line in the engine bay. Yes the system is pressurised but if it blocked then no pressure. Or since you paid next to nothing for it let Lexus take a look and sort. Even if they charge 2k you'll be quids in yes? Oh and welcome back to is250 ownership 👍1 point

Also bare in mind that it comes very close to jacking points if you use a trolly jack, so watch you dont jack up on sideskirts, ive trimmed mine a bit as i have a large head low profile trolley jack so took a curve out where it approached the jack points,( not visible unless your under car) plus i used extra self tappers to get it 100% flush against body1 point

And the one thing I really wanted to do was to get rid of my NX300H. Whilst it is a very nice car it does nothing for me in terms of driving enjoyment so I intend for my next car to be much more enjoyable. Had an unbelievable offer for my NX and it seemed a good time to do it.1 point

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VYSZ8S2/ref=emc_b_5_t looks like this is the new version with microphone - not sure the mic needed though as for calls the car's bluetooth kicks in, so check if you can install it without the mic1 point

I hear that same noise when i open the driver's door on mine, sounds like an electric pump/priming. Check vacuum hoses. Could you have dislodged one? see: https://oards.com/causes-of-a-car-starts-then-dies-immediately/1 point

You can't really count the time spent on development before release as all models have that. They were developing the LS430 at least 4 years before it's release in 2000. It just happened in parallel with production of the LS400 Mk4. In terms of the production of the models, for LS400 the Mk1 89-92, Mk2 92-94, Mk3 94-97, Mk4 97-00, (total 11 years) and for LS430 the Mk1 00-03 and Mk2 04-06, (total 6 years) each Mark had a production run of 2-4 years, and the same holds true for the 460/600 (Mk1-3, total 10 years) and the 500 (Mk1-2, 4 years so far). Every generation is in one respect or another an improvement on the previous. It all depends on what you want from a car and how much you are willing to spend on it.1 point

Hey Nemesis, Many Thanks, yeah i was considering putting those wind deflectors, i guess its annoying u just keep a microfibre towel in the car and keep wiping off. I have had the tyres replaced, but i dont think the car has ever been for tracking, im gonna get that checked out and then off to lexus for a full service and hybrid health check. Other then that all seems well with the car i hope your car is also doing good.1 point

Excellent review. Hope we see more of this from those who had the opportunity of a test drive. On another note, some people love to complain about anything and everything. Everyone to their own, I admit.1 point

I fitted same kit on mine year and half ago….wasn’t happy with how cheap they looked when i unpacked them but once fitted and modified (basically i filled the void under the side skirts with foam sheeting cut to size and hot glued in to make it look solid and trimmed of the excess plastic bits on front splitter so it doesn’t create a wind drag…. they’ll do for time being… make sure you use a good 3m sticky tape stuff tho1 point

Hi Don Seats very comfortable however I find the existing 300h seats are excellent. Certainly wouldn't say the 350h seats were overbolstered.1 point
-
Welcome, Danny Boi. If, as I would strongly recommend, you go as far back in this Forum as 2016 when the 300h was launched, you’ll find very few objective complaints, meaning that you’ve bought a car that is as reliable as it is nice. I’m sure you’ll enjoy owning it.1 point

It’s surprising how many don’t including so called professionals and hand car washes and the owner thinks it’s clean.1 point

Welcome to the club! I have experienced both those things you mentioned. Rear tyre wear on the inner edges is normal for this model, as reported by my service technician. Also the tyre skip is common on cold mornings and is due to the low profile wide summer tyres. I only experience it when turning on full lock and the tyres are cold. The only annoying thing I've found on the RC is the way rain water runs off the roof and drips onto the seat when opening the car door after being parked in the rain.1 point

Good question, I did have a look at the new one in the showroom and it appeared to have some secondary sealing so we’ll have to see about that in practice.1 point

That’s the one I’ve got ordered Ken. What did you think of seat comfort. I don’t like the over bolstered seats in the 300h.1 point

Plenty of independent garages about could do this job for a lot less. I had to replace both of mine within a year of each other. The aftermarket bearing is £150 sterling each and took 30 minutes per side to fit. Considering my first one failed at 4 years old and 40k I took my chance on the after market one with 2 years warranty.1 point

+ + + + + Garmin is probably the best. Lifetime update for several models (we have one that is 7 years old and 10 times better than the built-in Lexus OEM 2021 map we had installed a year or so ago.1 point

Quick update from the garage - the car is repairable! I am so glad! She needs a new bonnet, headlamp, bumper and front left wing and may be other small things under the bonnet. The garage have done a wheel alignment and it is all good, means the body had not been deformed! Now, lets wait and see what insurance will say wrt to whose fault the accident was.1 point

Hi. I had the RX Takumi in for its first service today and I had my first drive in a UX and an electric one at that as a courtesy car. I had quite mixed feelings about it so please don’t take it personally as they are mine alone. First thing - and I’ve got a bloody gash on my left shin to show for it - was the sticky out lower dash piece that was a hard plastic point. Why didn’t Lexus add a piece to the door if they wanted the dash to snugly meet the door when the door is closed rather than a spike on the lower dash? As I climbed in I struck my shin against this hence the long bleeding gash. After a lot of swearing I settled in for the 25 mile drive home mostly along the A19 from Teesside. Okay, it drove very nicely and the materials were quite pleasant. I particularly liked the small, modern steering wheel and auto seat heat / steering wheel heat panel. It reminded me of my ES Takumi. The RX still has the old cruise control stalk sticking out from the steering column rather than being built into the right side of the wheel. Boot size is subjective but it would fit (just) my daily needs. My only criticism inside was the door card was particularly bland. No different colours or trim pieces - just a slab of grey plastic. I thought this really let the side down. Some different material or colour would had lifted the door cards. Driving-wise, it drove nicely with decent punch but twice, on damp roads, the car slithered left and right and had to be reigned in by the traction control. I thought the power delivery on hard acceleration was quite savage. Is there a way to dial it down (like an eco or snow mode) for certain road conditions? The acceleration certainly feels quicker than the posted 0-60 times. It felt more like a time in the mid to late 6’s but the car was spinning up and sliding on hard (not max) throttle inputs. Overall, it was a good effort but £52k for a BEV built on an ICE platform. That seems like a lot of cash and it’s identical in cost to the brand new Kia EV6 GT-Line S AWD. I’m looking at trading in my mint RX for the Kia as i do very little miles now and an EV would probably suit my needs better than a 3.5 V6. I’m sure I’ll return to Lexus when they eventually present a BEV built on a bespoke platform but like many things the Toyota / Lexus brand always seem to take their time getting things to market. I have had a couple of UX's as courtesy cars & they are quite nice cars, but after my IS300h they just don't seem as nice inside or as comfortable to drive. If I didn't own the IS, I think I would probably have taken to it more.1 point

So my Lexus IS 250c 2009 the TPMS battery is dead. I took it to kwik fit for them to install their own tpms sensor. They tried to register it and said they couldn’t as they didn’t have the right equipment. They also said I need a genuine oem lexus part. They said to buy one and they will install it. Will this be a plug and go or will they be able to register it ?? They said they usually take the information from the old one to the new one but as my one was dead they were unable to do this. Please can I have some help and insight on the matter ???1 point

The 300h is many things, but it is most definitely not fast. Neither is it a car that - in my view - offers much reward for any kind of spirited driving, even in Sport+ mode. I have not driven a 450h but I can only imagine a trade-in for a 300h would end in serious disappointment for a keen driver. However, if you want smoothness, economy and a car that rewards gentle inputs, then the 300h is pretty much without equal. I find it to be an excellent companion on modern roads where speed is increasingly difficult to enjoy anyway.1 point
