Hi, new member here and I recently purchased this Lexus GS 450h Premier saloon finished in Sonic Titanium with black leather interior. It has the sunroof/moonroof and 19" diamond cut wheel options. I got it from a Lexus dealer as an Approved Used car, best thing of all just 3647 miles from new and one owner. It's so quiet and smooth, even over rough surfaces, not surprising coming from my previous car which was a Mk.3 Ford Focus RS. The list of gadgets and safety features this GS has is almost endless, I'm still getting my head around the User Manual which is 600 odd pages and the infotainment manual a further 300 pages! One of my favourite features is the Mark Levinson surround sound audio system with 17 speakers and 835 watts - plays music DVD's in 5.1 surround as well Cheers, Dave.8 points

As title, I just couldn’t find anything interesting from Lexus, I would have been really tempted had we got the new IS300h as other countries did. The current IS300h is great and my wife loves it so staying until it stops working! My car will be a 2020 Volvo S60 T8 plug in hybrid, it’s got epic performance figures 0-60 in 4.4 secs, supercharger and turbo charger, I’ve managed to get one without the 112mph limiter(not that I drive at that speed anyway). I managed to get one with almost every option ticked, pano roof, pitot plus, auto parking, 360 cameras, Bower and Wilkins sound £2.5k option!, retractable towbar (unused), folding seats, blind stop detection etc etc at a great price. I’m sure I’ll miss the Lexus reliability but just couldn’t find anything at the right price. Shame, I think there is a market for the new IS but Lexus think not.5 points

To be honest, the pre and facelift LS430 suspension is identical and they all fail in the same way. The LS460 suffers the same fate, it's a game of Russian roulette with any air suspension after 10 years or so. They can all be converted to springs, ask Steve if the one he bought from me has a good ride after conversion and I'm sure he'll say it has. I'd never buy another ageing car with air!3 points

Haha, don't worry I have suitable attire for the Lexus 🙂 Despite how I look in the photo I am actually 46 years young this year. I've always been a Ford fanatic at heart, having had Escort XR3is, RS Turbos, Scorpios, etc. back in the day. I used to go to a lot of shows, so therefore the RS was a bit of a 'garage queen'. I think Covid unfortunately killed the enthusiasm for it (not being able to go to shows) and it just sat there. When I finally drove it again, I realised that the love had gone and I found the suspension just a tad to hard for long journeys. And I realised how much I prefer the automatic transmission over manual. Due to the 4x4 system, the fuel tank size was inadequate and that's without even mentioning the very poor fuel economy. Then Ford announced they were shelving the RS brand, which meant there's nothing really left in their current lineup which appeals. End of an era really. With Lexus's announcement in relation to the 'Relax' warranty this is pretty much the cherry on the cake for me and I have no regrets switching. And I wouldn't hesitate to say how much more exclusive/rarer this 450h is. How many Nitrous Blue RS's do you see out and about? Although slightly off-topic this is not the first time I've dipped my toe in Toyota/Lexus land. Here's an old friend I had in the past. About 2004 I think. I really loved this car!3 points

Wow what a lovely looking car I too have the Premier they area absolutely Superb you will feel very special riding round in that steed Lovely pics thats it in a nutshell the exclusivity of it will make you feel good Robert3 points

Welcome Dave. That sure is one mighty fine car. A real change from the Focus and it should avoid all those prying RS lovers. It has real anonymity. Just enjoy its peace, tranquility, reliability and ML system. Oh, and accept 500 points for reading the Owners Handbook.😉3 points

Hi everyone, Had Lexus before. Do you guys find driving your car makes you more relaxed and calm? I'm between in all the cars I've driven I still find Audi drivers to be the overall most obnoxious (fill in the expletive of choice) ! Lol 🤣🤣2 points

Aside from the hybrid battery that you had commented on earlier in the thread nothing major. a few sets of caliper sliders, but that seems to be standard for Toyota/Lexus. I do all the servicing myself. In a past career I was a mechanic and I enjoy keeping my hand in, all my parts are genuine Lexus,2 points

I took thesame route. Couldnt find anything interesting in the Lexus range after the 250 and 300h and went for Volvo. ( or OVLOV as we called it in my SAAB days..) Got an XC40 and now a V60 T5. Cars are really fine. Chassis wise above par, very practical and its not a German. Buildquality is good but not as good a lexus. Materialchoice etc. Infotainment big step forward but coming from Lexus everything is... Styling great, good looks. Engine not good not bad as is the gearbox. Overall positive. I will not go for another ovlov again as the Brand does not stick to me i feel no emotional connection which i did with Lexus. But that is personal of course! In your T8 make sure you dont run it without warranty. Turbocharging, supercharging and an electric motor paired to a 4 cylinder pumping out 400hp is quite a complicated unit..2 points

I'm a big music lover and never do any journey, no matter how long/short, without the radio on or other media playing music. I tend to find that classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Free, The Who, AC/DC, Deep Purple and so on make me drive 'enthusiastically', whilst the Mediaeval Baebes and other mediaeval-type music, along with Gregorian Chants make me drive more sedately.2 points

I will keep an eye out for that lovely GS - however it is so stealthy I will probably miss it! Enjoy your Lexus, the longer you own it, the more you will appreciate its finer qualities.2 points

That was many years ago David, today I would approach with care, sound my horn to warn other road and bridge users of my presence then boot it through😀2 points

Sounds like a legitimate claim to me, apparently Ram Raids are on the increase and the driver has been fleeced.2 points

Curiously I prefer Sonic Red but just in recent days I bought a Sonic Titanium on the basis of an offer too good to refuse. If I'm honest, I think darker colours better suit the LC, but I also appreciate silvers once washed look cleaner for longer.2 points

when you use accessories i.e the compressor or listening to the radio whilst on your lunch break make sure you turn on the hybrid system otherwise you will get a flat battery, as long as the hybrid system is turned on you'll never flatten your battery again as the car will start when needed to re charge the battery also when the car is running never leave the car in the N position for too long as this can also flatten the battery as the battery will only charge when in P or D. i am assuming this is your 1st hybrid lexus so you will need to do things slightly different to a std petrol or diesel vehicle .2 points

A well known "fact" Paul. One of our London Investment Office employees rang me one Monday morning and said "A sheep ran into my car " I said "it is our car ,not yours and had it been yours, your Insurance Company would have been as much dismissive of your claim as I am of you!"2 points

I hope this helps Hello to one and all. Ref Lexus Relax and the 12 month free Warranty after your service I purchased a brand new Lexus NX 17th March 2021, I also purchased an extended warranty with the offer buy the 4th year warranty and receive the 5th year free I rang Lexus Extended warranty Team. Result Full refund on my extended warranty I just need to pop into my dealership, they will pay me Lexus will refund them My Dealer was saying he went to sell an extended warranty to a new customer Tuesday and was told " we don't sell them any more as the free warranty after service is the same cover "1 point

That is an incredible mileage. Congratulations. Have you had any problems with the car in its 7 years with you Jay and has it always been serviced by Lexus or have you used an Indie?1 point

This sounds to me like the brakes aren’t being used enough. Could be that the pads have glazed a bit. I’d take it for a thrash somewhere and do a lot of braking from 60 to 10 (as mentioned above) and do a long journey and get everything hot and keep braking heavily. I’ve never had this in any hybrid Lexus I’ve owned (had 4) and never had it on a loan car either.1 point

Hi Roy, she drives the RX when she can prise the key from my hand but she will drive the SC, she was never interested in driving the SL, we also have an Audi Avant to sell quite soon that she uses too.🙂1 point

It seems that white LC's don't sell that well, all the other colours sell quite fast but if you check AutoTrader the whites have been advertised for months.... My preference is Sonic Red but I'm biased 😉1 point

I've possibly gone a bit mad, or sane (depending on your view) but I have just SORN'd the GSF as I had a very expensive months of 'outgoings' and the tax was due... £600! So the LS is now my daily after making her mechanically sound, been boating around, silky smooth (after adjusting the coilovers) as I was a bit optimistic on the original low setting and 'crashiness' going over bumps 😆 but I've just driven to golf with all gear in the boot, listening to some classic 90's music (my fave) and honestly have had the most relaxed driving experience in ages! If it spoils you, why take it away 😉 in this case, too much of a good thing... is a Lexus 😛1 point

I've been keeping an eye on the used LC market for the past 12 months or so and my 1st choice would most definitely have been Sonic Titanium. The only one I've seen for sale in the past year was this one: LC500h Sonic Titanium Which seemed a bit overpriced. In the end I manged to grab my second choice Cadoxton Slate and love it! It does get dirty quick though..1 point

Thanks Royoftherovers, I did see this online but I was under the impression it was a little easier , generally it being a panel under the rear seats .but if that’s how it is then fine ...thanks for your help buddy...1 point

It's not advisable to select N when moving; depending on the speed and the specific hybrid system generation/specification you can over speed MG1. There is also no need - pressing hard on the brakes will always engage the mechanical brakes even if the hybrid system is doing a small amount of regenerative braking. Just do a couple of hard 60-10 mph braking runs in quick succession, that will clean the discs.1 point

Only my personal view.....BUT as 86% of cars are either PCP, HP/leased or company cars the manufacturing companies don’t want secondhand cars, I think they have to by law offer an alternative to new but can pick n choose what to forecourt, we are constantly bombarded with Toyota trying to get us to PX the wife’s car BUT it’ll be scrapped before it gets sold, either a new hybrid set up or constantly run on fuel until it’s totally had it!........I can’t justify the associated loss on a new car so I’m the worst car buyer to a main dealer 😂.......my F and Z1000 are toys, I’ve a runner for work n the wife has hers, I dread to think of the money I’ve lost to dealers over the years, it took a long time for me to grow up and at 49 I’m finally there 😂🤣........1 point

I have tried aviva plus , I think aviva short term is using dayinsure.com which wont insure an LS. The MOT station is down the road from me , probably 1min drive , I just dont want to take the risk driving there with no insurance , sods law you know. I might speak to the MOT guys see if they can drive it to their place ... I might be tempted to List it for sale as it is, with no MOT ,1 point

S60 is a very nice car, I considered one before I bought my Is300h. I have had Volvos for the last 9 years & they have been trouble free really other than a couple of recalls, if you can find a good dealer for service etc it makes all the difference. The menu system can be a bit quirky, but like everything it becomes second nature after a while, a bit like the Is menu.😊 Enjoy the car.👍1 point

My son bought a brand new Mazda CX-5 sport late last year. This was the petrol manual version and he loves it. I would generally agree with your summary between the two vehicles, but as my son got nearly 5k off for cash it was a great deal. I also read somewhere that the CX5 was great at holding its value. You won't go wrong in either car, but as Lexus have now put in place the 10 year warranty and if the car is a keeper, this may just swing it for me.1 point
-
As I said in a different thread, the current crop of Volvos are very nice indeed. They would be my choice if I wanted to change from Lexus. As for reliability, what I read doesn’t suggest any great concerns. Yes, they seem to have more minor issues than you might expect - erratic panel gaps especially for some reason - but based on the experience of a close friend the dealer was excellent and sorted quickly and without fuss. From new (XC40) she had a few trim rattles, and two doors along with the rear bumper and tailgate needed adjusting, but aside from a recall she’s had no other problems since in a couple of years.1 point

Not sure I would do anything... Just clean marks but only if needed...1 point

It's a really striking colour, particularly in sunlight and nearly always looks clean! When I was looking for an LC earlier in the year, the only one I could find was miles away from me in Cheltenham, and even without COVID, there was no way I was driving all that distance. Plus it was virtually new and pretty much list price. I just checked Approved Used Lexus and Autotrader, out of curiosity; not one Sonic Titanium LC! I'll probably be in the market again 2024/2025 unless something else comes along.1 point

There is a Sonic Titanium RC 300h at my local golf club. It looks absolutely superb. I parked next to it on Tuesday just to admire its lines but not close enough he might clatter me with his humongous door1 point

You were right Peter. After you said it I thought that logically, that's all it could be so I looked again with an LED torch this time and saw the edge of a coin staring back at me. A little prodding with a cocktail stick and it was out, cheers1 point

It might be Malc, we’ll see next week. It will be more of a ‘project’ which I was looking for really. Might be an investment as well judging by how prices for Japanese rear wheel cars are going.1 point

There's two old RAF bases near me and both runways are stacked full of cars, hundreds and hundreds of them. I'm sure there'll be others around the country. I'll try to take a pic if work takes me up there again in the near future.1 point

And don`t overlook the key words in the new warranty "manufacturing or assembly defect" or similar. That`s gonna be a tough one to overcome for owners.1 point
-
Yes but the new Relax warranty is not the same cover. There are exclusions that weren't there in the 2 for 1 warranty, such as shock absorbers, light units , multi media equipment. There are also a lot of weasel words such as "exceptions shall include but not be limited to" and "not included if not expressly mentioned" . It's all written in a way that gives the warranty company an easy escape route in the event of a claim. Lexus service staff are going to be dealing with a lot of very unhappy customers in due course when they find out that what they thought was covered actually isn't.1 point

Why kill a perfectly good new battery - if Lexus have fitted an original battery then go and enjoy the car as normal rather than worrying about a possible parasitic drain on a 2019 car. Assuming there was nothing that is non-factory fitted then clearly the original battery succumbed to lockdown and not being used regularly but now you are on a new battery and lockdown easing it sounds like you will be using the car again as intended. If you do the "test" leaving the car for eg 16 days then whether still starts the car or not you have probably taken some life out of the battery leaving it that long without any need. My 2014 IS300h is still on it's original battery. I do drive it regularly a few times a week and for reasonable distances. However, it does get left for a week or so sometimes (or even a couple of weeks with just the odd journey of a few miles) and in fact I did leave it for a week in January this year outside in sub-zero temperatures and the car started without hesitation on returning to it. I do always have a charged starter pack (one of the ones you can keep in the glovebox) just in case the battery decides one day not to work (as I appreciate you get no pre-warning of failure like a battery for a normal ICE starter) but I'm certainly not worrying about the battery one day failing (beyond the sensible precaution of the starter pack) as that will happen to all cars at a certain age. If your new battery fails in what could be described as in "normal" designed for driving and parking routines then definitely take it back to Lexus for investigation - I assume the car is still under warranty? If not for peace of mind take out an Extended Warranty - wouldn't cover the 12V battery alone but would cover if there is anything wrong with the car itself.1 point
