This is a very serious matter and is now being looked into, personally I think you are just far enough away from Essex to get away with just a warning. 😀 I’m not into wrapping myself but like some Eminem songs.4 points

I've had my Celsior for nearly three years, and for practical purposes I've decided to sell it. I believe this will be an absolute bargain for someone because I've never been one to try to get the top price, it's not worth the agro! So before I go further afield I thought I'd offer it here first. I'm asking just £2,200 but this is non negotiable. It came to the UK in 2018 with 62k and now has 74k. It's a facelift 2003 model with 6 speed transmission and an excellent reversing camera. The speedometer was replaced with a MPH unit by the importer, the mileage verified by the Japanese auction sheet which I have. Unlike our LS430's mine has a factory stainless exhaust system. The body is dark blue, in superb condition with grey wool upholstery (verified by the woolmark label) It had a new radiator and transmission hoses 2.5 years ago as a precaution, the fluid was cherry red. Last year I had the cambelt and water pump replaced, plus new Denso Iridium plugs. It has IS250 wheels with almost new Avon tyres. The air suspension was replaced with conventional springs from Strutmaster in the US, they're KYB struts with US made springs. It has also had new front upper and lower control arms, and lower ball joints, and all four drop links. None of them really needed replacing but I got carried away! The steering wheel motors both work perfectly, as do the soft close doors. It has the usual rear seat gadgets, drinks cooler, lumber refresher etc, all working as they should. No sunroof so presumably from a hot part of Japan but climate control is perfect. It has retro fit front and rear parking sensors, plus the quirky illuminated telescopic parking pole. Sat nav is in Japanese so I removed the disc to stop it talking to me. It has the original very thick "Celsior" floor mats. The rear windows are dark tinted like most Japanese imports although it still has the rear blinds. The music system isn't the troublesome ML. Radio is limited but radio 2 is fine! TV doesn't do much. Since I've had this car it has made a bit of a rattle over uneven surfaces sometimes, I've had three experienced mechanics look but none can say why. The last one to look said it's like a three year old car underneath, there's no rust at all. I'll get some photos on tomorrow if anyone's interested. It drives beautifully, the engine and transmission are silky smooth. I have four keys, two master, one valet and one credit card emergency key. I've had it serviced by an independent and I have the Japanese service book. It's also just had a new Denso air and cabin filters. Like I say, an absolute bargain for whoever buys it. The current reg for MOT checking purposes is N8PPG but that's not included and will have its 03 plate.2 points

If speculation is correct, 2022 NX will get the RAV4 PHEV unit with 302 BHP, 40+miles EV range and 0-60 in 5.8seconds. https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterlyon/2020/05/26/new-lexus-nx-to-get-302-hp-plug-in-hybrid-and-4wd-for-2022-launch/ https://www.torquenews.com/6626/did-toyota-just-leak-its-new-plug-electric-hybrid-or-not Now this is a nice car.2 points

I recently bought the Viofo A129 Duo front/rear Full HD set (plus the hardwire kit and the circular polarising filter, about £188 in total) and installed it myself, which took a couple of hours to do. Unsurprisingly, the hardest part of the job was getting the cable from the front cam to the rear cam. I discovered that the supplied cable was just not quite long enough to go at low level (under the scuff plates etc) in my RX450h so I took it along under the head lining. I previously had a Viofo A119S in my previous RX (that I forgot to take out) which was excellent, so I knew that I wouldn't need to look any further than Viofo again when we got this car a few weeks ago.2 points

I do understand the urge to make a car better. I went through the same thing when I had an E39 BMW with a big thumping V8 in it. I loved that car and spent silly amounts of money on modifications. These days though I've come to believe that these cars, particularly Lexus, are engineered so well from the factory that anything I do is just going to make it worse. So now instead of trying to make it "better" I try to keep it as close to how it was when it was new as possible, because that's what I now see as the best the car could be. Service it regularly, put good quality tyres on it, change the transmission fluid and use OEM parts where it's not financially insane to do so. I think you get more out of these cars by doing that than slapping things like this on. But hey people like different things and I certainly went through the mod phase too. Get a Quaife LSD next, those are fun as hell 😄2 points

Clean the screen and suction cup with isopropyl and make sure the area of the screen you are sticking it to is just glass and doesn't have any black dots or other markings on it.2 points

Excellent video you made proving without doubt just what a load of rubbish the grom thing is. Utter waste of money. I wouldn't have tolerated anywhere near as much as you with those issues. I'd have sent the thing back and got a full refund.2 points

I honestly got tied up with selling my business and my pre CBS Fender guitar collection as most of the guitars went over to the States it was a very long drawn out time/brain consuming affair. Sending 19 plus guitars through customs as some were the price of an RCF. Paperwork and customs were a nightmare but not many UK collectors bothered. I did have a few people look at the car but I didn't do myself any favours in the adverts requesting that need not apply. So the car has been parked up for ages doing nothing so I thought I'd give it a birthday. I will lower it later this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh in about an hours time. I will take my own photo's of it and post them up.2 points

Thanks for the comments, I don't think Amigo Wraps would like me to quote prices, but it's not cheap. I've also opted for the 'Waxisdead' nano coating on the wrap too. I've been way too busy for some time as I've sold my business and my guitar collection and don't seem to have had the time to come on here for ages. My RCF has been parked up doing nothing for ages too so decided to 'pep' it up a bit. Hopefully when I pick it up today I can take some of my own photos, by all accounts photos can't capture the colour shifts like the eye can.2 points

I am here! so yes, I finally got the money back. The seller then added 1000 miles ( probably trying to fix it) and then sold it used for the same price I bought it new. Will never know if problems are now sorted but have no intention of trying to find out ... Thanks to everyone that discussed the whole thing in the topic and especially royoftherovers who kindly pm'ed me offering his help2 points

All you can really check are the 2 12 volt supplies and the ground. If they are all present and correct chances are the amp has an internal fault. Due to the location of the amp it is subjected to moisture which eventually destroys them. Dependent on which system is fitted you can pick secondhand Pioneer units up from £50.00 but the Levinson units fetch a hundred plus. If you do buy I would be happy to check the amp for you.1 point

For some time I noticed that my temperature gauge was not reaching its normal halfway point, this was more evident on a longer run on a motorway when it barely moved from cold. I also found higher fuel consumption. After my failed attempt to purchase the parts from Amayama I obtained the genuine parts from LPD ( thermostat, seal ring and 5 litres of red coolant) and went about the replacement. Easy enough to do and the change was immediately evident in the much quicker warm up time and the gauge once again steady at the halfway mark. A post mortem on the old thermostat soon revealed the reason, the rubber seal on the thermostat itself had perished and begun to break up allowing coolant to pass when closed. This would appear to tie in with the previous symptoms of a long warm up time and constant over cooling. The old one looks original so not done bad over 26 years and the missing section of seal in the pictures fell off on removal so hopefully nothing has entered the coolant system which could cause problems. Not a general service item but may be worth checking given the age of these cars now.1 point

It was a right munter, wasn't it? I remember the shame when my boss lent me his sort of burgundy metallic/pink 2.0 gopper auto to drive to Stoke from Peterborough for a meeting. I had to leave it on my drive overnight as I had an early start. The neighbours didn't talk to me for weeks. You could leave them unlocked though - hardly likely to get nicked.1 point

Took a week of spraying penetrating fluid once in the morning and once in the evening into a few seized bolts on my LS400 before they came off. A few on my dads mk1 golf required heating and then 'cracked' with a decent socket and bar. For one on the LS we had the car up on quik-jacks, one of us laying on the floor pulling down and one above pushing down as we could only fit medium sized socket and bar into available space. I'd keep trying every few days, take worst case scenario of needing to replace the calipers - anything less than that is a victory and if you are in no immediate rush, patience might save you some £££.1 point

I have to say that my RX hybrid loves the Alps. We often skied there in the past and stayed in cheaper accomodation up the neighbouring mountain. So come down and back up in the morning to ski. and the reverse going back - about 12 miles each way everyday and the fuel gauge would hardly move all week. Obviously use no petrol on the way down but also the clever thing on the way up is the endless hairpins - normally you brake hard for these and go round slowly but not in a hybrid - just lift off and both the uphill gradient and regenerative breaking will slow you down nicely with the added benefit of free energy boost to help with the next uphill leg 👍1 point

The IS-F has different brakes to the GS F and RC F (which share the same brakes). Not sure what else to suggest other than a squirt of penetrating oil every day for a week and then remove using a decent impact wrench.1 point

You'd be in good company with the Alpine; Gordon Murray has one as his daily driver and he can choose pretty much any car in the world.1 point

Ah I see. Do you have the Mark Levinson Audio system on your convertible ? It should say just under the CD slot in the dash board. Only the Full Map option was available after the MY 11 facelift ( which came about later 2010) which meant that the Mark Levinson Stereo was dropped from the previous Multi Media system. It just retained the Sat Nav and reversing camera. So if your car is a 2011 model year and is fitted with the Full Map option then it has the top system that was available at that time. However this was not the top system that was ever available on the 2IS, as it does not have the Mark Levinson audio system. This was certainly the case for the saloon. However, it is possible to find an 11 plate car with the Multi Media system ( and the Mark Levinson system) but it was actually a MY10 pre facelift car, just registered in 2011.1 point

Well, I thought I should post and inform you guys, after much searching for just the right car, family circumstances (not mine, but my cousin) changed, and I've ended up with a GS450h UK car. Got to say, it's extremely impressive! Thanks everyone who contributed to this thread! Will get pics etc up on the forum soon once I've got my plate on it and got it nicely cleaned up!1 point

My most hated car designs are the boring ones. The hamburgers of McDonalds that nobody hates and nobody likes, the grey anonymous mice that nobody sees that do not draw attention that are the best sleeping pills seeing them is yawning. The corollas, accords, passats, jettas, a4 estates, outlanders. Remove the badge and nobody knows what brand it is. Lazy design inspirationless and most likely the result of car clinics. Design a car ask 1000 people for an opinion and oh no! 200 do not like it, redesign and do it again. Compromise after compromise leading to utterly boring middle of the road musac anodyne cars that are mostly sold in a grey color.1 point

To give you some idea of cost. If someone stole the third cat, I think it could be fixed for around £200-£300 with a replacement Y merge pipe and new flanges. A complete cat back stainless steel exhaust would be around £650 and a little more with a third cat delete. It does vary with different suppliers and depend on resonator/muffler choice, etc. I haven't heard of an SC430 cat theft yet.1 point
-
The SC430 has 3 cats as standard. Two are quite close to the manifolds and would be difficult to reach. The third cat is in the centre but would only be accessible with the car raised quite high and securely. The SC430 is quite low so a difficult target. It's fairly rare and old so probably not that likely to be chosen. Some SC430s (like mine) with aftermarket exhausts also have the third cat deleted. If the third cat was stolen it would be a pain but there is the option to repair the exhaust with a Y merge or X pipe arrangement without adding the third cat back in.1 point

Sadly, unless he lives very close to work, that was just an out-and-out lie. If you could drive it on battery alone you wouldn't get more than a couple of miles before the traction battery was flat. For the car to work, three things are needed - the 12V battery, the high voltage traction battery and the petrol engine. If any one of those three are 'missing' the car won't work, which is probably why Toyota called the system the Hybrid Synergy Drive. As I said earlier, the 12V battery boots the computers and brings the car into READY mode, at which point you can drive off on battery power only if you want to. When the hybrid system decides it needs the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) to run, it energises Motor/Generator 1 (MG1) and uses it to spin the engine up to 1,000rpm before applying fuel and a spark to fire it - which is why there's no starter motor. Anything that would normally be driven by a belt from the engine, such as power steering pump, aircon compressor etc., etc., is driven electrically instead, because the ICE doesn't run constantly. There's no alternator either, so the 12V battery is charged by means of a DC/DC converter, which is basically a box of electronics that takes the (we'll say) 300V of the traction battery and drops it to approximately 14.5V to run all the 12V systems and keep the battery charged. Other boxes of electronics do the same for other systems. For instance, I think the power steering works on 48V; the aircon compressor is run by a 500V 3-phase AC variable frequency motor and MG1 and MG2 are both 650V permanent magnet motors. Try to never run out of petrol but if you do, you'll need to put in at least 10 litres (better with 15) before attempting to restart. If you unsuccessfully try to restart it more than 3 times, the hybrid system can lock out and you'll need a dealer to get it going. If your aircon ever needs to be regassed, make sure that whoever does it uses ND11 oil (or equivalent) and not the 'normal' PAG oil. The refrigerant gas is the same as a conventional car, but the windings of the aircon compressor motor are immersed in the oil for cooling purposes and ND11 does not conduct electricity. Hope that helps1 point

Ignition on, open window with the door control and continue to hold the button down for a couple of seconds after it's fully open. Then close it and hold the button up for a couple of seconds after it's closed. Voila...hopefully! Normally caused by disconnecting the battery.1 point

I don't know about the others on this site but personally that silicon drying blade is giving my the gitters, sorry but i would never use one of these, even the slightest bit of muck under the blade will scratch the paintwork, a drying towel is much better as it will lift the muck away from the surface. other than that you are ready to go.1 point
