  2. If it's of any interest, I was sent a survey following my recent service. In the "Is there anything which Lexus can do to improve your experience?" section (the wording may have been different), I wrote, in capitals, "Bring the fourth generation IS to the UK". I am sure that this will change minds back at HQ in Japan.

  3. Sorry Vas, I didn`t intend to confuse you. I now understand that they have confirmed to you in writing that you have rejected the vehicle and will collect it from you when they are able. I`m sure that you will be glad to see the back of it. I have joined the VW ID3 Forum and can understand why you have not been acknowledged. As you say similar problem abound. Thankfully you still have your Lexus. VW does seem to try really hard to displease its customers. Good luck and please do tell us all when the problem vehicle has left your occupancy.

  4. You aren't in EV mode. Driver forced EV mode is limited to around 25 to 30 mph (lower when cold). The petrol engine being turned off by the hybrid system isn't EV mode, that, for want of a term is EV in operation which can happen up to around 55 mph on the NX. Vehicles with a newer generation of hybrid system will allow higher speeds, around 70 mph.

  6. Many thanks! All I can say is WOW! Due to the lockdown I only managed to drive the car on the Saturday afternoon. However, due to some essential chores I managed to put approx. 100' on it - mainly on 'A' roads with a bit of motorway work. The roads were wet with dissolved salt and very slippy, so I had to take it fairly easy. However, as the miles piled on I got more and more confident with it's grip and handling. So much so, that I was driving it at the end as if the roads were dry. I knew it was a pretty quick car, but what impressed me the most was the steering / handling. It felt so sure-footed and went around corners like it was on rails! Just superb. The displayed fuel consumption was far better than I expected too - high 20's 🙂 Can't wait for the lockdown to lift and take it for a decent run 🙂

  8. Hi Everyone Having been an RX owner, and currently a CT and NX owner, I have seen countless pages and articles regarding cat theft on these wonderful and informative forums. Touch wood and whistle, I haven't had any problems, but do understand and sympathise with Lexus owners who are vulnerable to this problem because of their geographical location to scroats!!!!! I appreciate everyone seems to be looking at prevention of theft on current vehicles, but is it worth looking to the future, also, and perhaps petitioning Toyota / Lexus - and indeed most other motor manufacturers - to ensure they DESIGN out the problem by physically locating the Cat(s) closer to the manifold, for instance. I know this wont help current vehicles and also appreciate that all electric is the way to go, but that will be along time coming. So for the time being...........................????

  9. It absolutely is the case, or certainly was. Look at a 2010 Auris hybrid compared to a CT. The CT has higher quality, softer touch materials, improved NVH, better specifications where certain options just aren't available on the Toyota, and it is assembled in a plant which has higher quality control standards for paint finish and panel gaps etc. Where the CT has fallen away is that it is essentially the same vehicle now as it was when launched whereas the Toyota went though a complete redesign with the later Auris and now again with the Corolla - each time improving. Reliability is the same - the vehicles underneath are the same. Differences between the two in surveys are normally down to statistical insignificance due to sample size.

Actually it covers also electrics, as I read: m) with reference to the electrical components: Starter motor, Alternator, Coils, Windshield washer pump, Relay direction indicators, Horn, Airbag spiral cable, Electronic ignition control unit, Relay, On-board computer (Trip Computer), Window lifter motors, Window lifter buttons, Mirror adjustment motor rearview mirror (motor only, no overall), radio control keys (only electrical problems), Solenoid central locking, Airbag sensors, central locking control unit, internal light control unit, indicators instrument panel, clock, speedometer and speed sensors, electric seat motors, cigarette lighter, heaters seats, Motor headlight height adjustments

  15. I really find little difference between this car and my previous FWDs. Having read the horror stories about wet road mishandling,I expected worse. It however sticks to the road like **** to a blanket and I am very pleased with it. My only gripe is fuel consumption which around town is horrendous. I must admit that I never intended to open a 5h1tstorm.

  18. What is astonishing is that this is not a service item. It is plainly an Achilles' heel for the IS250 and several other Lexus and Toyota cars. I write this as one who has just had to have a caliper (front in this case, also previously a rear) replaced — at significant cost, as others have mentioned. It would be an obvious preventive maintenance job, one would think.

  19. I have talked with my Lexus Dealership today , they have said it only for Lexus Europe, not the UK . Which is a great shame and I am not getting into any Brext issues !

I'd have thought they would refurbish your existing ones' ..... if you cannot get replacements when I had my Mazda 323f 💖 towards the end of life, I needed new rear window / hatch .. struts ..... I sent off the old ones and they refurbished them .. just like new too Brilliant company is SGS Malc

Should have said mk 3.5 there... they may get confused as true 4th gen is not yet in the making 😄 But, I did that in every communication to Lexus for at least a year (and I had quite a few communications). Previously, I as well said that they should bring 350 into UK market. Whenever they bothered to reply is basically along the lines of what Cris said, maybe different words but saying the same: "we aim to offer the competitive selection of models which our clients wants"... inferring that nobody wants outdated things like cars with engines which actually has some power or saloons... Everyone nowadays wants some some model-fluid hybrid cross-dress-over SUV "thing"... I blame liberals for that 😄

  23. I’ll second...third SGS, they are local to me in Derbyshire so I took mine into them. Super job, release bonnet catch, lift bonnet a few inches then it opens by itself. They also make a good quality range of trolley jacks, axle stands and other parts at a good price.

  25. Looks like there are 2 earth points from the negative battery clamp, strange coincidence if both ground points have failed but they look easy enough to trace and access. I would think the shorter one goes to the body and the longer one to the engine block....just thought the engine is sat on rubber mounts so maybe would explain no circuit if that lead is not connected correctly.

  26. Well done! I do the same too, writing to the Italian Lexus branch. I have reported the answers they give me in this topic, some pages ago. In my opinion their answer was almost clear: there's not interest in customers, like us, that would like to drive the IS or the RC (or just a sedan on that category) as in EU and in the UK they sell almost only SUV, people want SUV, people like SUV, sedans are for old fashioned people. The answer they give to this market is: more SUV, less sedan! A wrong policy in my opinion, but it seems they don't care. Very sad.

  28. Reading the Italian site the warranty, named "Lexus for You" is for all mechanical parts not subjected to wear, at no cost. For hybrid system there is the H-Care to be made during servicing that trough Hybrid Health Check extend warranty for a Year.   29. My 18x9.5 ET38 wheels sit 26mm further out compared to factory 17x8 ET45 wheels. 9.5 ET38 is too much for the front on factory ride height. Rear ones are just about flush / in line with the top of the arch. However, I have lowered the car on coilovers by about 60mm (it's still very comfortable due to softer spring rates, so I didn't lose comfort even though it's lower) By lowering the car, the suspension tweaks to a point where you gain natural negative camber. With the camber I gained just by lowering the car, the front wheels have tucked in by a lot. From a slight poke to being 10-13mm in the arch. I don't have a picture of that, but they are well within the arch. The rear wheels went in so much due to camber that I ended up using 22mm wheel spacers (which makes them 48mm further out compared to stock wheels, but again, i only "needed" to use spacers because it's been lowered and camber tucked the wheel in too much for my liking). Pics below. The wheels have a slight, aggressive poke, nothing too excessive. I'm happy with the rear fitment with my slightly stretched 225/40 tyres on the 9.5J rims. Fitment game is a difficult one to get it done right. Takes a lot of measuring and trying different things. It's safer to go for wheels that are within the arches and then tweak it with wheel spacers depending on how low you want the car to sit. IF you are NOT planning on lowering the car, your new wheels should be something like 8.5J ET35-45 for a fitment that will be 10-20mm further in the arch than my wheels on factory height. Hope that makes sense to all. @Linas.P Yes, the negative camber plays its role, but I gained it just by lowering the car, I didn't need any camber arms or anything. Arches are slightly pinched/rolled on the front otherwise it would rub on full lock, but ONLY when i lowered the car. On factory height, I had no issues whatsoever, even with sh*t (pokey) fitment.

  30. Hi John I am confused now. I have sent them an email saying that I have rejected the vehicle as faulty and I want my money back. They said yes , that is OK, we are completing the paperwork and we will come and collect. When we said that, the vehicle was still in the garage shop. I started discussing this in the EV forum with ID3 members, the problem is so common that nobody got impressed!

  34. no one is being ridiculed here Las Palmas, but we are not talking 500bhp + here where we all know require AWD or RWD to exploit that power. others are getting into intricate details about grip levels when accelerating from standstill and weight distribution which was a bit pointless considering we are not talking about a sports car here. others including my self tipped the OP on the dont's as a new RWD car owner.. but everyone coudl see how someone else was making it "RWD" is the best thing since sliced bread when we all know it aint.. 😆

  36. Ive been doing some testing this afternoon....... Within tech stream I can monitor the difference in the voltages across the battery blocks, sadly you can only select 8 at a time!! So I set the test up twice, with the car in Neutral, A/C running so as to create a drain I ran it until I got the charge battery error massage on the dash. Once the alarm sounds then the snapshots were taken, you can see the min/max markers on each block ive read somewhere that if there’s more that 0.3 v between blocks then that can signify a cell that’s weak/faulty

  38. I bought my RX from Lexus MK in December 2019, and I have no regrets in doing so. Obviously back then we were in very different times to where we are today, but I live some distance away in Stockport, and the majority of the interactions were via phone and e-mail. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

  39. I doubt that very much Phil, these people seem to have decided Covid is just a bad flu. Good friends of mine behaved like that completely ignoring all rules organising dinnerparties at home and simply not following or taking up general info about covid they were just not interested it seems. As i have become a hermit since March we did not attend and guess what all 6 people attending got the bug and still, when i hear them speak whilst beeing ill it just doesnt add up. they dont seem to realize the seriousness of the situation at all telling me they will leave for spain next friday as it will be over by then. The lack of knowledge with some people is frightening, the ignorance simply bizarre. It will get worse before it gets better.

Even if I live to be a hundred years old I'll never be able to afford a brand-new car, but then again, I'm not sure I'd want to anyway even if I could afford it, given the huge depreciation hit they suffer in the early years. Buying a secondhand car and never really knowing how the previous owner has looked after it, one of the first things I do is to have all fluids changed and that, of course, includes transmission fluid. It may only be of psychological value but I like to know that everything is starting fresh under my ownership.
