  1. Blown away with the results so for. The leather chap worked all day yesterday and managed to finish the front seats. What do you think?? Centre console and rear seats to go on Thursday. Front seats not bolted down yet. Seat wiring connected to power up the battery for locking.

  2. Hi I've found this guy as well, he's got great feedback. I've passed it on to my local garage who said that they would give him a call Cheers

  3. Yes its true if you go for the extended warranty - it has to be maintained by Lexus The issue of indy vs dealer really does depend on the age of the vehicle. On a 4 year old+ car, probably better going to an indy. However, having said that, I think most people buying an F car would have the view that if you're skimping out on main dealer costs, what else has been missed? Thats with the proviso that the car is fairly new. I reckon most people understand that an older car is hardly ever taken to the dealer for a service. Problem with files and invoices is that many can be easily forged, almost too easily. It only counts if you start ringing each one up and most don't even have any record/recollection of seeing the vehicle. Not saying Lexus stamps can't be forged but its all online and can be tracked down very easily.

  6. Thank You kindly for feedback. Much appreciated. 300h: would probably be the most sensible buy indeed, but i consider myself to be an oldschool petrolhead and straight four will be out of the equasion. I do around 4000 miles per year and paying a premium to save little bit on fuel just doesn't work out for me.. No offence to anyone 300h is awesome, just aimed at the different market.. 450h: is a whole different story. I have already owned 2006 model in the past and i was very impressed with it. The car was noticeably heavier than GS300 of the same era, but it was damn quick in the sport mode :) The one and only downside was the reason i ended up getting rid of it: CVT gearbox. Other than that the 450h is pretty close being the ultimate sports saloon :p 250: good old 4GR V6 coupled with 6 speed auto.. i actually test drove one in Lexus Nottingham and it wasn't nowhere near as bad as i thought it will be lol. Hope it's not a fake sound coming from speakers like some German models do, but the V6 sounds just gorgeous.. If we had 350 in UK this baby GS would be overlooked, but atm remains decent alternative.. On a side note whichever model i will go for, this will be my 11th Lexus since 2008 True love never dies 😊

  7. Like you, we settled on the GS before settling on a particular model. The 300h is the lowest running cost, and with the way things are headed around diesels, electrification, etc it will probably maintain residual value better. The 250 is a solid car, although I found it hesitant (but I suspect that auto hold might have been on). Highest running costs in terms of fuel, not sure if servicing is a bit cheaper. However, they are by far cheapest to buy, with even quite modest mileage examples just barely into 5 figures. The 450h isn't a car that you NEED. However, it is so accomplished, so capable, so effortless that it is the one you WANT. For blasting down a motorway its ability to gear down to 1000rpm at any legal (and many illegal) speed is fantastic, combined with the cabin refinement and very well judged ride. Is it worth the extra thousands to buy? It was for us. We wanted a Premier spec, so that put the 250 out of the running, and then we found the right 450

  8. I am currently in the process of fixing mine for the same reason. The bearing in the passenger side top mount has completely disintegrated (see picture) so I have just removed them and am sending them through to Brian at Orchard Engineering to have the bearing replaced. He has quoted £60 each plus postage to send them back. The job of removing them is a damn site more simple than I originally imagined, I have just removed them both in under an hour, in the rain, (it always takes longer if it's raining) on axle stands. I didn't even have to remove the wheels to do it! Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

  9. I thought that this was really worth a mention. I recently went up to Lincolnshire for a few days and i did just over 600 miles in total. The journey up from Exmouth was 280 miles and the run back was more or less the same. I drove at the speed limit where possible which obviously included A roads and motorways giving the whole range of speeds but mostly 50, 60 and 70mph, with the odd zip up to 75+ when necessary. The figures on the dash display showed 47.5 on the trip up and 46.2 on the run back home. I know that it's accepted that the figures shown in-car are a little optimistic but, even allowing for that, I am really pleased with the return. That coupled with the lovely comfortable drive/ride gives me great pleasure. If I win any money at any time, I will be going for the RX next, tis a big IF though methinks.

  10. Hey Guys, My dad picked up his brand new CT 200h tonight from Lexus. He now joins the Lexus family. I will get more photos over the week during daylight. The car is Deep Blue with black leather interior along with tech pack and premium pack added on.

  11. Spent a bit of time reading Pistonheads re performance car servicing and it seems a 50/50 split between dealership and specialist indy garage based on a few threads. A lot of the indy posters prefer invoices etc and don't trust dealership and their stamps. I had a previous Lexus serviced at Lexus and once they quoted me £600 for a new water pump due to a leak, took it to a local garage as it was a common issue and he replaced a pipe for £25 which fixed the problem. Since then I've always been a bit dubious of dealerships.

  15. The LS400 certainly represents a lot of car for the money, and it seems to me, as a non-owner (yet!), that within the £2,500 - £3,500 range there is plenty of opportunity to pick up a really good car. I'm sure the values will only go one way, and eventually only the good ones will be left. As far as I can see there are currently 8 being broken for spares on eBay. Sorry, I've gone off topic a bit, but what I'm driving at, in answer to the original question, is don't sell it too cheap.

  16. I go to this guy in Brentford: http://carreraworxgarage.co.uk/, Tony is really helpful and the quote he gave ~60 pounds to fit the new catalyst. I actually do the oil change and did over there the bigger servicing jobs like spark plug change etc. So far happy with the service.

  21. For the Smartkey problem, have you made certain that the button under the steering wheel (next to the TPS reset button) is in the out position? If it's in, then it disables the Smartkey system.

  22. Father made a good choice, Thomas. Vlady... i had a 2013 Premier, which i changed the tyres to Michelin Primacy 4s , the difference was amazing, totally better handling, and much quieter ride. I have now upgraded to a 2018 premier, A more softer compliant ride, However that's on Yokohamas which i dont like, so at some point will change too Michelin Cross Climate,Which i'm sure will be a very worthy upgrade. Also nice little touches all round, big improvement especially on the toy side of things! Hope this helps

  25. Let's talk your car up again! I think it looks fab, and in my opinion the DHP wheels are the best looking LS400 wheels by far. Yes I know tyres are expensive but it wouldn't put me off. Definitely revise your listing re the cambelt.

  28. I was trying to google for the above information without luck - do you have any links where I could read about the 2 catalytic converters in RX400h? EDIT: actually, after looking found the two other catalysts in the engine manifold diagram - from https://lexus-europe.epc-data.com/rx400h/mhu38r/5163/engine/1701/?full Still, would love to have some source for the 15% bit of emissions work. If the 15% bit is true, this brings me to the reasoning that I can skip replacing the stolen cat.converter avoiding the risk of repeated theft - at least for now or until the wave of thefts reduces. I have already ordered the 3rd-party one from Catman.co.uk, but thinking I will not fit it and will wait for the MOT and try passing MOT without it. If they fail it - then I'll fit it up for £30 pounds or so. For now a simple pipe will do.

  29. I've found another Lexus hidden feature 😀 When I removed the rear seating recently I found that the rear seat belts have an extending arm, for want of a better description. The seat belt guide on the top of the seats extends , why ? I don't really know, unless it's a comfort thing. Tadah ! Just when I thought I knew the car inside out. 🤓

  30. My new purchase was driven straight to a wrapping company less than a mile from the showroom for ceramic coating and PPF. However I'm still keen to get mudguards fitted long term, but at least he sill, doors and rear section will have some debris protection in poor weather. Brand new car but can't drive it for a week..😂

  32. Oh it’s just a bit out so that’s fine. Castor angle is adjusting the lower control arm adjustment? If so that’s the ****** that burns up the inside tyre tread...I have no idea why that garage couldn’t do that. It may be time for new control arm bushes... and a new garage.

  36. Expensive? Not really - my SR+ was almost bang on the same price as an equivalently specified BMW 330i, Jaguar XE 25t or Merc C300, all of which are slower, FAR more expensive to run and will depreciate significantly faster. Reliability? Hmmmm. https://www.whatcar.com/news/2019-what-car-reliability-survey-electric-and-hybrid-cars/n20068

  39. Just for info - had the Cat stolen from my 2009 RX400h last week too... in North London... very easy to spot - the car sounds like an old tractor, and obviously there is a big section of the exhaust missing on inspection. There are 2 cats on the RX400h... The main one is up near the engine, and can't be stolen, the second one is underneath the drivers seat. Both are platinum based, and thus have a scrap value. The one under the drivers seat is very vulnerable to theft. I am told the second one (the one that gets stolen) does about 15% of the emissions work, and the main one that can't be accessed easily does the vast majority of catalytic conversion. In other words, you are looking at the second stage of a 2-stage catalytic converter system. Phoned up Lexus, and they had had 6 others done that week, and the parts were on back-order from Japan, unavailable until end of September. Quotation was £1300 for replacement of entire exhaust section - that's a lot, but it's comparable to other platinum-based systems that the Japanese manufacturers use. What do you do if you don't want to pay £1300 and wait 3 weeks? Fit a universal replacement... won't be as good as the Lexus OEM part I would suppose, but I got mine for under £300 and welded in for another £50... so not as bad as I was expecting... certainly not worth an insurance claim. I could have got a used part for about £600, but its a 10-year old part as a minimum... with unknown mileage, so I was happy to try the universal option. I painted the welds and new piping with some high temp black paint to protect from any corrosion too. What have I got now... a ceramic universal replacement - it doesn't have any scrap value as no platinum in it. Obvious concerns: Will it pass an MOT? - well, as I was told by an MOT tester, Hybrids are exempt from emissions testing, so there won't be an issue there (you can verify this info online). Will it affect a warranty? - well probably, as its not OEM - but the car is 10 years old and its not under warranty anyway. Will it last like the original part? - I bet it won't, but I can replace it three more times and still be ahead financially... so I don't care. Does the car sound any different with a replacement cat? - Nope, sounds exactly the same as before in every way. Could it throw a malfunction indicator light? - Nope, the lambda and O2 sensors are on the first Cat, and there are no sensors past it, so it can't lead to any OBD issues. Will it effect power or fuel consumption? No idea, initial fuel economy figures are identical to before, and there is no noticeable difference to throttle response - I don't drive the car hard anyway, not the way I drive, and not what this car is for. When I took the car to have the new Cat put in, there was another RX identical to mine having the same replacement part put in... so I am not alone, neither are the 1000s of Prius owners using similar universal replacements. Use these guys: https://www.catman.co.uk/ Mike was a great help, and knows what he is doing - he told me he's supplied 40 RX400h cats this week... epidemic. There are no other universal exhaust sections available (that I could find... and I looked extensively)... its Lexus or a universal one welded in. The only other option would be to get a stainless section fabricated... but they would still use the cat off the old system... which you don't have because it's been harvested by some degenerate already. Hope this info is useful to those that need it... No idea about the 450, but I've been told they are targeting the entire Lexus range at the moment. You can secure your Cats using a Cat Lock, of which there are several on the market... Costs about £150 and would take about an hour to install I think... certainly worth doing if you don't want the pain in the butt headache. https://www.catlocks.co.uk - ill get round to doing this shortly. Cat thefts are rife at the moment, and it's simply a matter of time if you live in certain areas... so I wouldn't assume it won't happen to you.

  40. I'm afraid that shipping costs have scuppered any plans to add skirts or splitters to mine. If you look for Toyota Harrier you might have better luck, Toyota in Japan offered quite a few factory options so would be more plentiful than RX options. Occasionally the odd secondhand part makes it's way across so you might get lucky. Obviously not to everyone's taste but still! (Check out the TRD boy racer bits on the last pic 🤩)

  42. Nightmare, 3rd party pulled straight out of a carpark on the opposite side of the road and straight into my side. He said his passenger said it was clear. Straight up the hospital as my wife had pains in her neck and she has a tear in her muscle in her neck. She's already in a cast on her left leg having had an operation a few weeks ago so she's going through the mill at the moment. Getting a courtesy car tomorrow and will have to see what the repair shop says when it goes in. Dreading the obvious "economically irreparable" result. Groan!! Sent from my EML-L29 using Tapatalk
