  1. Hi, As it is a quite common issue I just wanted everybody know how to deal with it. So in short if you got an GS MK IV with few years/hours on, you might notice strange noise coming from a radio area. It is a sign that fans bearings are wearing out and making that typical sound. You will hear it regardless if radio/AC is on or off. When you shutdown the car it will last for few more seconds. As bearings got MTBF time in hours it means the longer car was ON the higher chance they will fail - it is not related to milage or age itself. So in my case with Mark Levinson audio and Nanoe there are 5 fans in total in that area! 3 for audio unit plus 2 extra below for Nanoe bit. If you got warranty Lexus will replace whole audio unit (± £2000). If you don't have it as I, you would need to deal with it by yourself. Good news whole radio is very very very well designed and can be put apart (no rivets, or funny screws). Last rainy weekend I've make a decision to go for it and result is brilliant - car is dead quiet again! It took me a little bit longer as 2 fans were faulty after all (I was prepared for one) and I needed to order one extra one in different size. If anyone is interested in some more details please feel free to ask. Eventually if you got that problem and don't feel tech savvy enough I could do it for you for a small fee 😉 At the end here is the photo of how does the unit looks like inside (you can see both fans which were faulty in my case):

  2. The DTC occurs when the fuel pressure on the high pressure side is too low. Fuel pressure is achieved by a mechanical pump driven by a camshaft and is regulated by the spill control valve. A fuel pressure sensor monitors the pressure and is regulated between 4 and 13 MPa. If the pressure is lower, the ECU closes the spill control valve. If the pressure continues to drop, the ECU blocks the power to the spill control valve so it remains open and regulates the engine to a max of 2000 rpm. Check for fuel leaks on all pipes of the fuel system after the high pressure pump. [ Fuel pipes to direct and indirect injection injectors. Fuel injectors leaking.] ] Fuel pressure relief valve. Fuel relief valve relay. Fuel pressure sensor. Fuel pump for high pressure. To carry out some tests you will need the techstream. Kindest regards, Chris.

  3. Just incase anyone was interested, the knocking turned out to be a broken suspension coil. This together with the bushes are being covered by the extended warranty.

  5. We have two Minis in the family, both Coopers one a 65 plate (from new ) and the other a 14 (had for three years). Both have been totally reliable. We all use the same BMW / Mini dealer and they have been brilliant for both my bimmers and the girls Minis. Just beware of the luxury tax on the 530 /540i...it was more the principal that got my goat (List being in the zone) yet purchase price for pre reg with zero miles £10k under it !

  7. Hi, The freeze data gives you three sets of readings before the DTC, one set of readings when the DTC was set and one set of readings after the DTC was set. These data are given in 0.5 seconds intervals. Since the DTC refers to the fuel pressure high side, the readings you have refer to the fuel pressure high side. Using the Techstream, alter the fuel target pressure and observe that the fuel pressure fluctuates. you can lower the target pressure by 12.5% and increase it by 25%. If the pressure changes by the exact amount, then you may have a faulty ECM. If there is no change, then you must check the fuel relief valve and its relay. During these tests you have to put the engine on inspection mode. Put the gearbox on P. Press twice the accelerator fully. Move lever to N and press accelerator fully twice. Move the lever to P and press the brake pedal and the start button simultaneously. The engine should start and you can vary the engine rpm up to 2500. Always start with the easy tests and with the cheap replacements. Good luck. Chris.

  8. Cheers both. It is a great car! Matador red, Luxury Spec, with large Nav screen and ML. It's in need of an F-sport front bumper though! Cactus - definitely! The 450's hold their value very well too!

  9. Thanks Ian. I have been uncomfortable for quite some time with the " wear and tear" reason (excuse?) often put forward to deny customers under the Exteneded Warranty arrangement. I must say at this point that whilst I have had the cover for the last 6 years (and still have it) I have not been a victim to this scam (?). Wear and Tear does not appear to be defined in the Extended WarrantyAgreement, so we must look at the Dictionary Definition which is amongst other things "the damage which comes from ordinary use" In my view there is a world of difference between ordinary use damage (say, wear on seating covering) and a failure of an item which does not last a reasonable length of time,or fails to perform to specification (say, a water pump or a suspension part). Furthermore (in my opinion) when ever Lexus warrants the vehicle for a further two years (and takes the full premium, as it does), it is warranting each and every Protected Part for the full two year period. I do not believe that employees at each Lexus Dealership, nor the Administrators at TGW Services Ltd possess the necessary knowledge to interpret the Agreement correctly and find it easier and more comfortable to use the wear and tear excuse. If it occurred in my case ,I would have no hesitation in having the repair carried out at my expense and then suing Lexus (TGW) via the small claims track of the County Court, where a legal interpretation would be given.

  10. I have only used it for one bike, and no problems experienced. However, i found that the nearest position for the bike (closest to the boot) meant that the pedal of the bike was very close to the bodywork so I use the position furthest away from the boot. Also, whilst the straps provided for securing the bike are very good, I use additional chord to secure the bike so that it will not move in any direction. Hope this helps

  12. I too am at a loss to see how a water pump problem at 45k miles (as in my case) could be classified as fair wear and tear. Such clauses ought to be applied to things like brake pads/discs, tyres etc - the stuff which is designed to wear.

  13. No personal experience of them, but Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Dunlop Sportmaxx RT have been very well-received by other owners and would be a safe bet. Of the tyres I have actually had on my car, and previous IS's, my current tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 4) are probably the best all-rounders I've tried to date, although these are more geared towards the performance end of things (which is my preference), so not especially quiet etc. In terms of comfort, Hankooks were easily the quietest and smoothest-riding tyres I've had on an IS. Both K110 V12 Evo & K117 S1 Evo 2 were excellent in this regard, and also had extremely good dry & wet grip levels. Not quite Michelin levels, but not bad at all, maybe 7/10 as good. I've also had Pirelli P-Zero Nero (rubbish), Continental Sport Contact 3 (excellent, but noisy and quick-wearing), Dunlop Sportmaxx GT (pretty average, wouldn't buy again), Michelin Pilot Super Sport (amazing grip and steering response, but very noisy & harsh).

  17. Will try and post some pictures tomorrow Gareth, Steve, if they fir the IS300 they should also fit the IS250. I purchased mine from Halfords, but before I paid I asked to see it fitted on my car. This the Alesman did without any problem

  19. The interior on mine wore very well. It had 55k on the clock when I sold mine with no real wear on the interior whatsoever. Of course, these are usually used to ferrying kids around so the wear may be due to children. From the auto express article: "Comfort The RX’s ride is firm at the best of times. On 19-inch wheels you’ll probably find it uncomfortable, especially for long journeys" ^^well thats just utter ******* isn't it!

  20. When you change the battery you MUST re-initialize each window in order to be able to control each from the drivers door switches. In order to do this you perform this operation at each window using the switch on the door for the window you are at. If you look closely at the small led on each switch you will se it is blinking - this indicates the windows need initializing. 1. Open the window halfway using the door switch. 2. Fully close the window by pulling the switch and continue to hold the switch up for 4 seconds or so. 3. Do this at each door. When complete the blinking will change to being a constant glow ie 'on'. Your windows will now fully function again from the driver's door control set.
