Hi RX lovers, Here is a link with the new 2020 RX450h which will be for sale in the US next year. https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/first-impressions/2020-lexus-rx-450h-first-drive.html Very positive review as well and finally Apple CarPlay and Android Auto together with a touch screen. I hope we are going to get the same specs here in the UK. All the best and keep driving the smooth RX's4 points

Hi people, just thought I'd pop by and say hello. I have a 2003 gen2 Lexus RX300 that has become part of my family and absolutely love driving it. She has developed a couple of little issues that I hope to get resolved in the near future and thought I may be able to draw on the previous experiences of the guys and girls in this group. Anyway, I have added a picture of my baby that was snapped on a recent Isle of Man car meet as I was blasting up the Sloc. I look forward to chatting more soon. Hi, So the car is going in on the 12th August to be repaired. He's going to save and paint the wing and then repaint all the cladding and lower bumpers to make her look perfect. There's some signs of previous scuff repairs on bumpers and scratching to the cladding. I'll shower her off once it's all done. Thanks again everybody for the advice. The guy I've found seems great and loved the car. Wants to feature it on his website etc. Take it easy gang... Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk3 points

Well she is 16 so her hormones are all over the place. We did have a little father and daughter chat before she went in and it seems to have worked! Hard to believe that I've had this Celsior nearly a year.2 points

Even though mine has needed the dreaded starter motor repair and a new cambelt etc. - two expensive jobs - it hasn't cost a lot to run over the 9 years I've had it. It rarely needs attention, and it's probably worth 40% more than I paid for it.2 points

Phew! Passed the MOT yesterday with no advisories. Tried a new MOT place rather than the usual Ford dealership (they didn't send me a reminder this year and I'd fogotten how close it was to expiry) and expected one unusual issue may cause a fail, but passed. The guy who tested took half the time I usually expect and charged less. When I said to him before the test I'm hopeful it will pass as a French trip is planned, he said "of course it will pass - its a Lexus" Told me he had had an LS430 in the past, and what a Car! Too hot to go for a twenty mins drive before the test even though the A/C working, so emisions shall we say were "iffy".2 points

Donโt forget you got electric AC compressor and it requires special oil. AC is one of those special things that are different compared to a non-hybrid cars.2 points

Canโt remember figures but had gap insurance, smart insurance (paintwork), Supaguard and tyre/alloy insurance plus over ยฃ800 options to original ยฃ62375 inc metallic paint and came to ยฃ63000. They gave ยฃ2000, which included ยฃ250 of options, off the original total. Also got Lexus ยฃ2000 deposit plus another ยฃ1000 as previous customer and 1.9% loan. All in all then about ยฃ60k before my NX trade in Used the paintwork insurance on NX after couple of scapes from cars parked next to me so worth having again I thought. Need Supaguard for grandkids. Couldnโt get free service as on NX but got 10% discount. Probably extravagant but now retired and only my third new car after a Honda CR-V and the NX and spending the kids inheritance. Need some luxury after 40 years of previous second hand and unreliable Fords, British Leyland and Volkswagen.2 points

Well took the wife to have a look at the car ,it was better in the flesh deep metalic red new tyres just had big service . Spent two hours going through everything with the sales guy he was very knowledgable .it was on a posh farm unit inspected under flouresant lights and then out in sun checked underneath all under protection panels unmarked .the entertainment rear system bluetooth head phones were in there plastic wrapping still in centre consul unmarked .sales guy took us out for a long test drive shopping between me and the wife .it was almost silent inside and couldn't tell when it was using the engine or battery unless we bought up the display .wife fell in love with it .so hence we have taken the plunge and put a deposit down will be trading our old car in which owes me nothing .total figure to pay will be ยฃ13950 ,it will be the wife tootle about play thing doing about 2k a year mileage going to proberly keep for 3-5 years .the only problem I've foreseen for the future is getting the next car after this that will compete .The car snob factor is starting to rear its ugly head . To put it in perspective I said I've see a hybrid rav 4 for the right money low miles .and got ummm no thank you lol. One last thing is the stereo system is the best I've heard in a car that hasn't been modified .ill post up pics when we get it on the drive way within the week.2 points

I went to the managers special on Monday 22nd but nothing special. As my NX was in for a 2 year service yesterday 24th asked to borrow a RX for the day. Told it was a sport but actually turned out to be a standard RX with sport pack. Very smooth ride on motorway and dual carriageway way but felt too soft for me as if car floating and bobbing and steering light especially on country roads. Had 3 longish trips motorway and A roads just over 1 hour about 30+ miles and got 43 mpg. Impressed. Drove home cross country very smooth but soft and light and got 42 mpg. Then drove back to garage cross country and dual carriageway using power for overtaking when necessary and got 40 mpg. Total about 120 miles average 42 mpg which was impressive with air conditioning on as a very hot day 30 C. Told them about soft ride and steering compared to my NX Premier so would stick with that as couldnโt consider a RX Takumi based on test drive. Car is bigger especially boot and inside which I want and mpg not much lower than my NX but as most of my driving involves cross country on a day to day basis could not commit to a new RX. They then took me out in a RX Premier and the ride was so much better even my wife noticed before we had driven a few miles. So now no more objections so after discussing some options etc ordered one for September plate. They had reserved one already in my colour Mesa red with black interior from my discussion on Monday. Hope I have made the right choice as have enjoyed the NX.1 point

I was both surprised and pleased to see that the RC300h (the 2019 model of which I have just ordered for delivery in September as a replacement for my present 2016 one) has come top in the Sports Car category of the 2019 Auto Express Driver Power Survey, in which LEXUS did very well all round. While the RCโs inclusion in the Sports Car category may well raise some eyebrows, the remarkable thing is how the magazine accompanied the news with a simple repetition of its own rather unenthusiastic and very German-oriented previous review. I can recall few better illustrations of the gulf between owner and journalist opinions.1 point

Just wanted to share this as the hybrid health check on our cars doesnโt cover this item and it can lead to overheating and damage to battery.1 point

No probs , the car is completely different no creaking or nocking , smooth and easy lock to lock , when you take the dust cap off the top of strut thereโs a 14mm not that connects air pipe to strut , then if you look right down youโll see a 19 mm nut ( you need a long 19 mm socket) you need to soak it with wd40 and take your time to work it when undoing it cause if you snap it the struts no good, then disconnect strut at bottom and the mount will come away, while the mounts were away I cleaned the domes off and put jb weld 5020 all over them to help protect them1 point

The limit in the Netherlands is 0.5. When over the insurance is void but of course will settle third party damage. This will be claimed back, always. Second step is blacklist, you will be thrown out of the insurance and can only get cover at a special insurancecompanies in which all insurance companies participate. This of course at elevated prices and conditions. Legally it goes like this. For example you are measured at 1.3. This is a criminal offence and will be settled at court. Likely to have a fine of around 1000 euro plus a alcohol and driving education costing another 1000 plus a driving ban of 4 to 6 months. This for first timers, if second or more time brace yourself. All in all not strict enough for me. Could be simpler. 0.0 and loose licence for 12 months if over plus draconic fine will be ok for me. No excuse.1 point

According to the Lexus website the Hybrid Health Check does cover the cooling system? LEXUS HYBRID HEALTH CHECK An annual check of your vehicleโs hybrid technology is an excellent way to make sure that the system continues to run at its smoothest and most efficient optimum. We will evaluate the entire Lexus Hybrid Drive system, compiling a comprehensive report with all the information you need to understand its operating status. All details are carefully and clearly explained, and if any part of the system requires work or refinement, this will be discussed along with recommended next steps. 1. HYBRID BATTERY CHECK The system will analyse the performance of the hybrid battery. 2. DRIVE SYSTEM CHECK The system will analyse the efficiency of the drive system. 3. COOLING SYSTEM CHECK The system will analyse the efficiency of the cooling system. https://www.lexus.eu/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/hybrid-health-check/#hybrid-health1 point

Iโve had top mounts done mate , by a guy called Brian , the top mounts do come off the top of air strut ,so once removed you can send them to him and heโll have them back within two to three days , I stripped them down myself itโs not a hard job ,1 point

Last year with Direct Line I paid ยฃ650 and it went up to ยฃ680 this year with ยฃ250 compulsory excess. Done a price comparison online and it came up with ยฃ410 with a ยฃ400 excess with Debenhams. Phoned up Direct Line and they immediately matched the comparison price without any problem and still have the guaranteed hire car, legal cover etc.1 point

I have he HUD on the NX and didnโt realise how much I would miss it until the test drive without it. As for the 360 camera on the NX when I put it in reverse when stopped I can still see all four corners so can check that I am straight in the parking bay. Also I can press the camera button to the right of the steering and that shows me my position. I use that camera button a lot if I have to drive in forwards to a narrow space eg through a narrow gate like onto my brother in lawโs drive. At low speed you can see all 4 corners when going forward. Can also be used at road junctions to see whatโs coming but rarely remember that. Surprised if the RX isnโt the same annoying if not. 39mpg would be great. My average over the two years is that but currently getting about 42 mpg over the last few months.1 point

I spoke with Lexus Birmingham on the phone about 3 weeks ago and they explained that there was a delay with ebay orders as they have a member of staff employed solely to process and fulfill them and that person was sick. It may be that person has now left or is long term sick. However, found Lexus Parts Direct was cheaper with free next day delivery for club members (min spend ยฃ50).1 point

Eddy, In your first line did you mean "GS450h" ? Most 3rd party warranties will not start until you have had the vehicle for x months(probably3) Most 3rd party warranties will not cover problems which were existing or developing at the time the warranty is taken out. Can you not find what you want from a Lexus Dealer as he will probably give you a 12 month warranty which will cover most problems and you would have the benefit of the 6 month Statutory Warranty which obligates the Trader/Dealer ?1 point

I actually did some years ago when I wanted to bring my US spec RX to France - their answer was bring the car for an inspection! Which of course was not practical so I ended up dropping the idea. I'm hoping this time it will be easier1 point

Ethanol in fuel means that it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and holds it in the fuel. Over time that settles to the bottom of the tank as petrol is lighter than water. The water then causes rust in the tank leading to clogged filters, damaged pumps, clogged injectors and poor running, and will eventually lead to leaks in mild steel tanks. The Ethanol itself can lead to problems with rubber seals on some pre-80s vehicles, but almost all made since 1980 can handle Ethanol. If a car or motorcycle has been designed with Ethanol in mind, then they use a different kind of rubber for the seals, and the top manufacturers line their fuel tanks with a petrol/ethanol/water resistant coating or make them from stainless steel. Because of crash testing, many car fuel tanks now have deformable liners to prevent leaks in the event of the tank taking damage. My 1989 Kawasaki GTR1000 has handled Ethanol in the fuel for nearly 200,000 miles. Yes, the first fuel tank sprung a rust leak after 120k miles, but otherwise the carbs are as they came from the factory apart from a couple of cleans and new carb-airbox rubbers as the originals went rock hard. I really don't think you need to worry about Ethanol in petrol for your LS400/430/460/600s. Any rust in the tank will show up in the fuel filter pretty quick and the rest of the system was designed to handle it. ๐1 point

Just re-read the manual, and seems like I have been reading the wrong bit, and given the only thing the car carries is me the missus, and the Lexus wooden bonnet strut, and 100mph is a fantasy (though did touched 95 last night when I managed to squeeze by a Sunday driver out very early). So will drop to 30, suspect that will make the right a bit better, and see what it does to tyres. Thanks for pointing out the actual facts in the manual, and my wife will merely confirm I do not read things properly.1 point

I've just seen that too. But as someone who relies on having decent forecasts one of my weather apps is still saying dry. Overall our UK weather forecasts are mostly inaccurate and crap1 point

@Vlady, ah that's a shame. I suspect it will have dried out and causing your issue. But the fix should be cheap Try Ceratec, that seems to last well. Something like; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Textar-Cera-Tec-Ceratec-Brake-Lubricant-Grease-Anti-Squeal-75ml/1636938053161 point

Alex It would be easier to knock out the dents and fill it then spray to the correct colour ,I would do the job on my own car but not on yours as it is not going to look perfect when done but it would look a lot better than it does now. Have a go you will save a fortune and learn how to fix dents.1 point

What I also forgot to mention , I now run my Lexus on Superunleaded and have done for past 3 months, my choice , and happy with it. On my last MOT the emissions on the Lambda were 1.03 right on the limit, although that was not the reason I switched. This time surprisingly 1.02. The conditions were pretty identical with a good 40 mile motorway run to get there. I do advise a friend who lives in France but returns to UK for mot, to fill up with BP Ultimate on journey, and his Lexus has passed for the past 4 years. Prior to that he had been advised the vehicle was unlikely to pass the following year because of emissions. Might help somebody ๐ค1 point
