  1. I have been to collect my SC today, and after a 210 mile drive home, I have to say I am impressed. Very comfortable on the motorway and, if the on board system is to be believed, I averaged 32.2mpg. I haven't re-brimmed the tank, so that figure hasn't been checked, but it is not bad for a steady 75 cruise up the M5 followed by a stop start crawl up the M42. The car has a full Lexus history until 2 years ago but since the June 2017 MOT has done less than 1,600 miles. It was serviced last week and the cam belt/water pump were done, so it should be good to go. My only minor quibble is that it has 4 different tyres on it, one brand new Falken, one Pirelli with only a few miles on it and two different Dunlops both of which are down to about 4mm.

  3. hello all, Just wanted to share that I bought my first IS300h F Sport after a long debate with the Mrs if we should keep the RX450h. I've had plenty of Lexus's in the past and after going through all/majority of German brands, I'm sticking to Lexus. I've had numerous IS200 Sports, a IS220d Sport, a couple of IS-F's, GS300h F Sport, still got the RX (for now) and now my first IS300h F Sport.... and I really like it. not as spacious as the RX or GS obviously, but a very nice place to be in, the seats really wrap around you I must say and the chunky steering I've missed, I love the DRL's.

  4. Aint it funny how car magazine reviewers will tell you a BMW, Merc and Audi wins in tests, build quality and all driving aspects but then once the dust settles and real world owners are surveyed on these brands Lexus crops up the winner? not disputing the fact German cars are fine and in some aspects, very well built machines and certainly does tick boxes but results like these lets you see the biased contrast that's out there when you ask a car mag reviewer against an owner who has had to live with the car for a while.. not all Lexus cars are perfect but are close enough to always win majority owner surveys both here and in the US year on year...

  5. Thank you guys for the answer and advice. Guess I will have to change the bad habit of parking in neutral... but I am glad its not a fault. (But Lexus should change the message displayed as it says " ... Low Charge when "Not" in N", but I was actually in N... confusing message.)

  7. Hi and welcome to 300h ownership. If you leave the car in N with the ignition on it will discharge the traction battery. If you are parking up, even for a short period then leave the car in P, that way if the traction battery discharges the engine will cut in and recharge it. Hope that helps a little Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Mine starts in whatever mode I was last in when I switched off. I'd prefer it to always start in normal.

  9. The only issue is that the Falken is a W rating, whereas Lexus specified Y for the SC. Not that I am expecting to get above 168mph very often....

  10. These have aged really well, I'm the same as Jon and didn't like them at all in their early days. Totally dig them now. Health to drive!

  12. Was admiring one of these earlier when I picked my GS up after a bit of work. I can remember how much I disliked them when they came out, but I think they look great now! The mpg calculator on mine is the most accurate I've ever experienced, so hopefully yours will be the same...

  13. Pretty much! However, I'd like to think that with the prices Lexus charge, they use a proper mechanic's stethoscope to listen out for any abnormalities. 😄

  14. Plenty of images on Google. Just search for "LS430 side" and click on Images. I also prefer the air shocks. If you buy new Lexus parts then air suspension is stupidly expensive to repair, but there are plenty of used parts available so I'll stick with air thanks. 😁

  16. I am always worried when soemone says the discs are warped. The problem of judder is due to un-even surface, mainly brake shoe deposits, or other cr*p embedded in disc surface. I assume some pads will deposit more junk, and hard braking and then leaving foot on brake will enable the disc heat to bind some of the pad onto the disc, so always foot of brake and put into park or use handbrake. Trouble is re-skimming a disc is usually as expensive as replacing. Lexus OEM parts are still around, I had mine done on front a few months back, about £350 (I recall) - this included new shims, and seemed like only about £100 more than going 3rd party. Been as good gold so far, and fingers crossed they will stay that way.

  17. Looks fantastic, I love the colour. I would say you're about right with the MPG, mine has the same engine and I can manage 31-34 easily enough.

  19. Took the car to Lexus Stockport, they took the car to check if it is a dealer setting, but after few minutes told it can't be changed. Possibly Lexus changed it at some point or maybe it is trim dependent. Will have to get used to it.

  21. Oooh, not good - too much chance of damage. Stick to the windscreen, bottom right-hand corner is fine.

  22. Its firm compared to the GS300H F Sport, but not as firm as the ISF. I like the driving position, got that sporty feel you dont get in the GS, he GS was a F Sport, but sitting inside i didn't get the sport feel, more of a luxury feeling, but I must say i love the drive of a GS from all the ones i had in terms of smoothness and space, the RX is brilliant, but you have to work with it to push it a little. I was surprised who quick the IS is, i though it would be a bit sluggish to take off.. but i was surprised. Love the odo movement and LFA sport look and the noise in sports mode (even though its fake lol). I'll give you more of a review after a few weeks of driving it.

  23. Bare in mind what the law states with regard putting things on the inside of a windscreen. Bottom right hand corner is approved. As for your RX satnav. Use your Garmin as it's light years ahead in tech than the inbuilt one. Another location for a 3rd party satnav is to use the rubber suction pad on the cars navigation screen.

  24. Have not found any info in the Handbook. My local dealer is Lexus Stockport but have not asked them yet. It is not like this is a major issue or something, just a bit annoying detail.

  26. I had a pre face-lift 2015 Luxury. Only issue under warranty was a leaking water pump gasket found on service. The dealer didn't bother with the gasket and changed the pump. Apparently an easy job and took about half an hour to do. Luxury trim is a nice compromise. My car had rear cross traffic detection and blind spot monitoring as standard. It also had optional ML sound system. I understand that face-lift luxury models lost the Cross traffic monitoring and blind spot detection. Can't remember the spec differences but Luxury gets most of the nice toys, memory seater, heated and ventilated seats etc . Premier ups the ante with HUD and a lot more toys. A very nice package if you can afford one. Fuel consumption is fantastic and better than my previous IS300h. Best ever tank to tank was 220 mile round trip into London where I averaged 52 mpg. Michelin Tyres will transform the ride and handling over standard Dunlops.

  28. The pre facelift base model (SE?) didn't have folding rear seats. But I expect the new model line up has them as standard across the range. Since when have car reviewers known what they are talking about with regards Lexus?

  30. Just spotted this old post. I had an RX400h (2008). It didn't have adaptive cruise control, just plain vanilla cruise control. It was great. I had it for 5 or 6 years. In some ways I wish I'd kept it instead of getting the NX. The RX was faster and more comfortable. Not as cheap to run (28-30mpg and £270? tax vs 37-40mpg and £130 tax for the NX). The adaptive cruise control on the NX is one of the things that makes it better but it was an awful lot more expensive to buy being newer.

  31. Yes, the lights are notoriously inaccurate and should never be relied upon. The only way to be sure is to fill up with gas, set the trip recorder to zero, then run on gas until it gives the first warning that you're getting low. That way you know that a tankful should give you 'x' miles so you know to fill up before then, and just keep resetting the trip recorder every time you fill up. Phil - what happens if you press the switch? Does it do anything at all? Bleep? Buzz? If nothing at all, the inline fuse providing power to the gas system may have blown.

  32. 136,000 miles and counting (IS250 auto 2012). Picked it up in 2014 for £17K with 6,000 miles on the clock (and absolute steal IMHO). It hasn't missed a beat so far. Apart from routine servicing and tyres the only additional costs I've incurred are new discs and pads at 90K miles and a couple of windscreen excesses. I'm now rapidly heading towards a depreciation cost of 10p a mile - compared with around £2 a mile for the original owner! I had been pondering about changing to something newer next year but I'm beginning to think the smart move might be to just keep on going until I'm faced with a bill I can't stomach (probably the exhaust in a couple of years time). I might even make it to 200,000 miles before that happens. Hard to believe that the car has been (the equivalent of) round the world nearly 6 times without any mechanical problem whatsoever. A remarkable piece of engineering.
