Got the AFe ( Takeda ) cone style Intake tube and box installed. I did that for two reasons.. 1. Sound 2. Looks I did not expect any performance from this system, in fact.. i was expecting some loss in performance especially mid to top end. I speak from experience as I've done this on many cars before this one. I am happy with the results, love the deep throaty sound the car makes when you step on it. I don't feel I've lost power either. However, I have noticed throttle is more responsive initially... almost feels like I've installed a throttle controller. A video of the system being installed. Hi all, My car recently ticked over 91k miles and needed a full service, last service was August last year at 83k. As it was at 91k I booked the car in for a 100k Major service with Lexus Plymouth. I understand a large service like this is only done at 60k miles and 100k miles, please correct me if im wrong, Just thought I'd add a post on costs and what was carried out if anyone is getting near that service point in their cars life. I purchased 2 new Pirelli P Zeros for the front wheels a couple of months ago as the inner wall had the dreaded tyre wear, middle and outside were like new 😞 I got a great deal from Oponeo.co.uk I saved them for the service so Lexus could fit them (which they kindly did free of charge). Lexus did all the usual full service items, changed the Oil, brake fluid, engine coolant, screen wash, all filters screen wash, checked for recalls, plugged the engine in the computer etc etc, Also a full visual inspection, they took off, checked and re-tourqed all 4 wheels, tyre pressures, checked control arms brakes, suspension, literally every nut and bolt of the car was looked over and tightened. There was nothing wrong with the feel of the car before the service but it honestly felt like new when I picked it up, felt solid. I had a rubbing noise from the passenger wheel in the week building up to the service, they checked it out and found the heat shield had slightly bent and was rubbing, all fixed for free and no more noise. It was a bit of a relief as I've only owned the car since April so this was it first proper full inspection by Lexus under my ownership, they confirmed the car is in great condition and had been well looked after. There were only 3 things to sort at a later date, air conditioning needs regassing which I'm not fussed about, with the Hayward and Scott exhaust burbling im more of a window down kinda guy. Heat sheild above the exhaust was ripping a bit and may need replacing, and lastly 3 clamps on the exhaust were leaking slightly so will need replacing, as it was a Hayward and Scott exhaust they didn't have the correct clamps so wouldn't touch it. All in it cost £595, Money well spent IMO, I am curious as to what a simular service would be for a M3 or C63, RS4 etc. The customer service and work carried out at Lexus Plymouth was first class, added benefit of it being a 5 mintue walk from my house it's a relief to have a garage like that so close. Another stamp in the service book and a warm fuzzy feeling the car is in great condition. Apologies for the long read Cheers Ian

I don't have my plate correctly spaced. Had it nearly a year, never been pulled for it. It's "A11AA A" instead of "A11 AAA". Be sensible and you will be fine. No silly text, or trying to make digits different with the fixing screws. Lexus did warn me it wasn't correct during the service, but that's to cover themselves. All cameras can read the plates fine with different spacing. Believe me, I've tried and tested it for you all with a speed camera earlier this year!

A little update after a little while! My rebuilt power steering pump for the Celsior arrived a few days ago, and I received all parts to rebuild the alternator myself on Thursday. That meant I had everything I needed to put everything in the enginebay back together. Here are a few photos I took during reassembling the alternator. These Denso alternators are extremely easy to take apart, you could probably replace all components that usually fail in about 10 minutes. Some old vs. new shots. As a reminder, at least one of the diodes in the rectifier died: Degreasing car parts in your bath tub is totally acceptable, right? Alternator with new components installed: All back together: I've put both parts back into the car this afternoon, and things went much easier than removing them before. Not having to deal with a 1cm layer of oily grime definitely helped. The alternator went in first, no problems apart from one of the splash shield bolts mysteriously disappearing. No real issues with the PS pump either: Since I had to remove one of the coolant hoses to get better access to the alternator I used the chance to replace the thermostat. Hose and accessory belt back on: Air intake reassembled, replaced the old air filter while I had the chance. It needs a good clean and the battery cover, but its looking decent again. I bled the coolant and power steering systems, had a moment of panic when smoke developed where the pump was sitting. Fortunately it was just ps fluid or degreaser burning off the exhaust manifold. I left the car running for half an hour to make sure there were no leaks, and from what I can tell everything looks perfect. Very happy, it was quite an exhausting day. Took me around 7 hours in total going at a relaxed pace. Some left overs I have literally no clue about where they would fit. The 4 remaining bolts look familiar, I am fairly confident that they did not come out of the engine bay. I still need to find a set of reasonably priced (as in under 500 quid) BC coilovers to replace the old completely shot suspension. It turned out to be not much more expensive than going with original new parts, and BC is offering some absolutely amazing hardware that doesn't compromise ride comfort too much while still giving you the option to adjust ride height.

I agree with this. Coincidentally I had a look around the ex-demonstrator currently for sale in Ipswich on Sunday and they are without a doubt a very nice car, nothing on the road comes close to such bold design, albeit the interior options are a bit naff. It would be a tough decision for me to trade in the RC-F for one, but if they had an LC-F that may be a different matter.

I am pretty sure that the AFS being off does not affect the self leveling function... Only the swivelling function. It is recommended that you switch the AFS off when traveling to the continent, and I don't think this recommendation would be made if it affected the self levelling also. I think the 'average speed' approach is the only real way to control speed. The usual spot check cameras just encourage drivers to brake and accelerate. The unwary get caught but the vast majority don't.

Ref. the Autocar preview, a few comments. - Wheels - good, another option which look better. - Brakes - Rubbish. The brakes on my LC are just huge and fill up the wheels! - Exhaust - If you took off the lower rear trim panel of the LC500 you would see 4 exhaust pipes arranged just as in the photos... - Air Intakes - Half finished but you can see the intercooler radiators for the turbos. - Flared Arches - I just can't tell from the pictures. @Big Rat The pictured car might be 18 months old so the pricing is not out of line with expectations. I am not sure how the Hybrid will fare against the V8 as this is a specialist and enthusiasts car.

Essential Care is a slightly reduced service though. Worth keeping in mind. And my dealer offer the club discount on "proper" servicing but not Essential Care. Just to make your head spin a bit more

It's a guy who runs a small business on the site where I am in West Sussex. However, I was talking to him this morning as he was working on a Mercedes and we discussed full resprays to which he replied "I'm not taking an big jobs now, its not worth the effort" He told me he's just working on panels, bumpers and wheels now. I can understand that as there's more profit in the smaller jobs. I highly recommend him for smaller jobs though. Thatcher Motors in Angmering.

Agreed. But we have to keep in mind that if you're going to complain it's likely you'll find yourself on a forum. But every owner isn't a member of a forum. Take these things with a pinch of salt. There's also the forum phenomena of "they all do that". An issue that may have affected a number of members (who joined because of the issue) becomes lore. A particular engine will do this at some point, a particular model will do that at some point. No they won't. Some might if you're unlucky. I can really only speak from experience when I say that my 16 year old IS and 12 year old RX are "better" built than all of my previous new and used cars.

Wow even more impressed! I’m lucky to get 350 from a tank full. I dry smoothly with the occaisional heavy right foot, but my work commute is very stop start urban which does the consumption no favours. This is why I’m considering an IS 300h, I think most of my mileage would play to its strengths

For interior plastics I've been happy with Meguiars. Really? I'd like to hear the legal standpoint on that one as they have no right over your property and what you do with it. Sure if the existing MOT has expired and the car is deemed to be in an unsafe condition (a definition that could be a whole other can of worms) they can advise you not to drive it on the road as that would be illegal, they could even report you to the old bill, but they have no rights over your property. All IMO

As your car will be 5 years old you should consider Lexus Essential Care, i think that will keep the costs down. The big service is the 6 years / 60000 miles and I think that's been included. That should keep the warranty happy. I've enclosed a screenshot of Lexus Essential Care. The calculation they use is slightly misleading, over 3 years it's circa £32 a month, not bad for the care and standards they use. Glasgow Lexus certainly doesn't charge for valet and washing. Pollen Filter is so simple it's untrue, and filters for less than £10 on ebay. Certainly not as cheap as your indie however necessary for warranty. I did the same as you, 3 years warranty and I took the service plan. You should see what Audi charge for servicing in Glasgow btw. Enjoy your new steed. Ed

Autoglym Rubber and Plastic cleaner is excellent for cleaning and "lubricating" windscreen wiper blades and door seals. Especially for the winter with frost!

Replacing a reluctor ring is within the realms of the average DIY requiring removing the drive shaft nut, and wheel hub to expose the drive shaft end, and reluctor ring. If the old ring is cracked it will just pull off with your fingers. It is then a matter of cleaning the drive shaft surface and tapping on squarely the new reluctor ring. If the new ring is not very tight on the shaft apply some bearing fit to the mating surfaces. Bearing fit is is a compound that as it dries expands. Ebay is the place to get the rings. Check the inside diameter, and the number of teeth for correct fit. John

Update: Actually got a "check VSC" error so decided to take it to Lexus Cheltenham as they have a good reputation around these parts. Turns out the front drivers side reluctor ring is cracked - excellent diagnosis britprius! The best bit was that Lexus said that I would need to replace the whole drive shaft as they cannot order the reluctor ring as a separate part! After I stopped laughing I requested that they kindly put everything back together and give me the car back. Spoken to my usual independent garage who are happy to replace the ring on it's own but I have to supply the part. Question is, where is the best place to get it? I've seen them on ebay but not entirely sure of the quality. Radical thinking now - Is it an easy DIY job?

I've had one for years, in fact I've just retained it to go on my ISF on Sat. Had a quick look. If you're getting a 16 plate, may be worth buying it now and saving it for later. £399

It has 127,000. I had a Nissan Terrano before this as well as an X308 Jaguar XJR, I have a couple of friends who drive a Lexus and they have always appealed to me. I tend to buy older cars rather than new as I find them less clinical. The front bumper has loads of stone chips as does the front of the bonnet. I'm getting these resprayed and then the whole car detailed. I've also ordered new discs and pads. I like to keep my cars nice as well as mechanically sound 🙂

My RX300-SEL rear suspension is fairly high (though not quite so high as the one in the photo) and has been since I purchased it around 7 years ago. Have you checked the level settings on the dashboard, any red lights? I would be cautious all the same. BTW my vehicle is a 2003 model.

That's disgraceful behaviour of that dealer. You need to contact Lexus UK and complain.

Where is it claimed that EV mode is anything to do with energy saving? You should read the user guide that came with the car, where it says: So why use EV mode? Again, the user manual states: I've attached the user manual - have a read, page 214. Lexus_IS300H_User_manual_h_EE_OM53B95E_v2.pdf

Hey mate, good luck for the interview. I don’t work for Lexus but I have worked in a variety of sales roles in the last 20 years. I’m currently recruiting and training business development (sales) staff for Lloyds bank as well as maneging a team of business development staff. Make sure you have plenty of questions to ask them at the end of the interview other than “how much does it pay” and all the usual predictable stuff. It makes you stand out, be memorable and seem like you’re not just along cos you think the job would be cool. If you are being interviewed by existing sales staff then ask “what do you think will make a good Lexus salesperson” (or something along very similar lines) this question exhibits an interest in their opinions and a desire to meet their requirements. Subliminally that will endear them towards you. Ask them what training they offer and how long it is likely to take before you are fully up to speed (shows you are keen to start and learn). Another great line of questioning is “what characteristics or behaviours have made their most successful staff such a success” and “if I were to start tomorrow, who would you have me shadowing to make sure I get the best possible start”. Both of those get them thinking about you as if you are already in the job. Subliminally, they’ll be thinking about you physically doing the job and providing you’ve not come across as a full blown mentalist then the more they are thinking about you actually doing the job then the more likely you are to be offered it. Ask them what they think you’ve done during the interview that they have likedand also ask them what areas they feel you’ll need development on. If appropriate, give examples at this point of where you’ve overcome knowledge or training gaps in the past. Finally, if you feel like it’s gone well, ask them “so, when do I start”. It’ll get a laugh if nothing else! It all depends on how “salesey” the interviewing staff are but hopefully the above should help. Obviously a good knowledge of current Lexus models will help. If you get a chance, watch the YouTube video about how they make the new Lexus blue colour that has no actual blue in it and bring this up in conversation.
