So I've owned my LS430 for one year today. It's been a superb car and for anybody interested this is what it has cost to keep on the road. I paid £8,500 for the car 06 plate. I know this was top end but the car was one owner, full Lexus history in immaculate condition. Also my car does fall into the top tax bracket as registered after April 2006. This has been the only downer. However it was the car I wanted in the right condition at the right time. I've averaged 21.7 MPG over 9000 miles. Servicing and MOT carried out by Dave at Lex Tek,Sheffield. I can't recommend highly enough! 12/05/2017 Rear pads. Complete check over car. Adjust park brake. £125.22 24/06/2017 Radar Cruise beam axis adjustment carried out. £130.00 (This was paid for by DAX Motor Comapny who I bought the car from, as the issue was present upon collection) 27/06/2017 2 x Falken FK510 + front wheel alignment. £230.00 03/08/2017 Interim service + 2 new wipers. (front pads 60% worn and slight corrosion on front discs noted) £147.30 26/09/2017 Supply and fit new aux belt + touch up paint stick £60.88 11/04/2017 MOT pass no advisories, though I did sort the front discs and pads as I'm on holiday in Skye next month. £285.60 So the car has cost me £849 in the last 12 months, but as you can see a majority of this has been service, tyres, discs and pads. On the whole I'm very pleased, as my LS is in it's 13th year but still remains the best car I've ever owned. I have one slight issue, in that the car pulls slightly to the left. When I had the two front tyres and alignment, I thought it would make a difference but it didn't. So tomorrow the car is booked in to have a four wheel alignment test carried out using the "Hunter" system. Hopefully this will sort it. I hope this year the running cost's will be less, though I will need some rear tyres by the end of the year. Happy Days. Nick2 points

I originally started using autoglym srp as I thought it was an abrasive but subsequently discovered that it is a silicone based filler rather than an abrasive polish. This detailing malarkey is more complicated than I thought. Sometimes I feel it would be great to go back to my early motoring days when having a car which had all panels the same colour was something I strived for!1 point

I always think of polish as an abrasive product used to correct/prepare a surface before the application of a protectant, a wax or glaze. I've always rated Collinite 915, lasts a very long time and very easy to apply1 point

It was private seller, so I guess you right - the trader though it was under priced + from private person you have to buy cash, so customer circle kind of limited. They though they can make quick money from flipping it around, expanding the options with finance etc. In one way they are right, they made car more accessible - on other hand, exactly what @Stuno1 considering other cars for sale, with such mileage it is no-brainier to £32k for the car with 46k miles ,when you can get one with 20k miles for £33, or with 7k miles for £36k.. don't forget all probably negotiable. Equally, the other car with same mileage is £29.995 - again quite stark contrast. I reckon they might have taken the car from private owner at even lower price, so might have left themselves a bit of space for offers and just trying their luck at the moment. I doubt they would risk taking-on RC-F with such a high miles for just £2k.1 point

It will do but maybe won't last as long as using Bilt Hamber polish before it. If you do two coats of double speed wax you will get a few months out of it. Best to top up one coat once a month or so. It's a very good wax at a great price and you should like the results Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk1 point

The seal is holding on my transmission, as I said before it is in the preparation of the two surfaces and then torquing the bolts correctly and tightening in the right sequence. I wouldn't bother taking off the pan though unless you have some problems with your transmission.1 point

Having had the RX for a couple of weeks now, I find myself echoing most of Spacewagon52's comments from his excellent review, so figured I should add my two penn'rth to this thread. Comfort: It's like driving around on my sofa. The seats are amazing (and the seat heaters are welcome). Ride isn't quite as supple as my Audi A8 was, but that had air suspension, so understandable. Still very smooth, though. Audio system - mine isn't ML either, but it's at least as good as the Bose system I had in the Audi. I'm using a bluetooth-to-FM widget for streaming music from the iPhone, which works adequately. Economy: Not too bad, considering,. My A8 was V8 powered and would do just over 30mpg on a long run if I was careful. The RX does slightly less on a long run (high twenties), but average day-to-day driving is no worse. I don't do a lot of mileage, so that's not an issue. Handling/Performance: it's a bit of a bus, but easier to handle and nicer to drive than other SUV's I've tried *cough* Range Rover *cough*. Performance is fine for what it is - all fairly effortless and wafty, which is all one needs :) Keys: Far too fragile. Had to rebuild both using the kit from the guy on ebay who supplies pre-cut replacement casings. Easy job and not expensive. Like Spacewagon52, I find myself missing having parking sensors (I don't have the reversing camera either). A retrofit is on the cards. Power tailgate: very handy indeed. For such an old car, it's superb. I'd been tempted by a (newer) RX on two previous occasions, both times ending up in Audis instead. Glad I finally bought one - it was the sensible purchase for my current circumstances, but one that I'm enjoying out of all proportion to the low cost.1 point

Sorry to hear that Stuart. Hope all goes well with the fixing. Now in Andalucia, will copy you with email of my uneventful but enjoyable journey in the W210 Merc.1 point

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum. Should you end up buying the ex-smokers edition let me know. I have a tried and tested process which has managed to completely eradicate any smell of smoke from cars, including my current ISF (which I am pretty sure was owned by Dot Cotton) and 3 of my previous cars that must have each been used on the set of a Dr Dre production. I managed to knock £2k off the asking price of my ISF due to the smell of smoke. Took me about 4 hours of graft and the smell is totally gone. Managed to stumble across two great techniques online and use a combination of the two. Might be worth it if you can use the smell as a bargaining chip. Good luck!!1 point

Looks great. I used Poorboys' sister product (White Diamond) on my car last month and was very impressed with it. [emoji106] Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk1 point

Ratchet spanner, stubby spanner, obstruction spanner or a 1/4" drive socket set, they tend to have a driver with very fine ratchet mechanism and flexible drives... A few here.... http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/spanners-wrenches?pageNo=1&pageSize=21&sort=we_recommend I used to spend some of the money I would have spent on Labour on some tools on every job I did, you soon end up with a very comprehensive tool set, donkeys years since any nut has been an issue... Good Luck1 point

Any update here, regarding the Toyota performance car day at Cheltenham ? Is it going ahead and if so, which day, 21st or 22nd? (Need to know if I have to organise breaky for Saturday or Sunday )1 point

Realistically you might want to do the full treatment a couple of times a year depending on mileage. As long as it's washed correctly over the coming months you could say top up the wax once a month and that should suffice. You can always get a detailing spray to use as a drying aid after each wash. I had a CT200h as a courtesy car once and I will not accept one a second time. I told customer services, when they rang for customer feedback, I thought the CT was not the sort of standard I would expect from Lexus. The lady made a note (she said) so the service manager would be aware not to offer a CT next time mine's n for service. Obviously this is all very much subjective and personal preference1 point

Hi Stuart: Look to the right of the bonnet lever /petrol/boot lever, you will see a small button press that ,it controls the sound of the doors --on or off.1 point

Thanks Vlad. Yes the system on my Ford BMax works quite well. That makes me feel a lot better by not having the function :)1 point

Agreed, if you want to do that. Personally, I would rather wait and buy a car with a huge discount 1 year later rather than paying the full price initially. I did the above with my 3RX and got a decent discount despite it being a new model, however, it was nowhere near the same amount as I would have got if buying 6 months - 1 year later No right or wrong answer of course.1 point

'F' Car 10 Year Meet Major Changes Well had a long chat with Tim Huxley and his team at Cheltenham and due to circumstances beyond there control major changes have to be made. The two main reasons for the changes are firstly the huge unexpected numbers for such a small venue which will lead to both traffic and parking issues which clearly none of us want. And secondly on the chosen dates the now unavailability of the Lfa for the two days, it's a vehicle in high demand that has to be shared both in the Uk and Europe and Tim feels to just have it as a static display with the occasional start up defeats the object somewhat So plans are being prepared for the following......... The published dates of the 21st/22nd will become one day not known which as yet at Cheltenham Lexus as a purely Toyota performance car day of vehicles past and present with open house to workshops on site parking food drink and so on and all are wellcome. As and when I know more I will update as soon as. So as regards the 'F' car event this will be held off site at an as yet undecided location but will have much added interest that would have not been possible at the dealership. This will be held some time in May or June over one day, the venues that they have access to are 2 Hill climb sites which have many facilities and an airfield storage site that has a permission to use dragstrip. The drag strip and or hillclimb will be available to use subject to instructional presence which will be provided, there will also be a much larger number of 'F' cars available to drive test Rcf Gsf Lc and so on, all Owners club members and families are welcome. I can assure all that every effort is being made by Tim and his guy's to come up with the right mix of things to participate in so we can all get the maximum amount of enjoyment from whatever is decided upon.
