Beemers are great if you want predictable maintenance costs. The same stuff goes wrong at the same mileages across the ranges so for that they can be good. Knowing what mileage car is likely to have a hefty bill just around the bend. Lexus approaches that in a different way..... Not much goes wrong. I prefer the Lexus option as it means more of my cash goes on spangly aftermarket parts rather than un-spangly essential mechanical items. Having owned 5 high performance Beemers in the past I wouldn't even want to know what they cost me in essential repairs over the years. Driving experience or no Driving experience. You can only drive them when they're not on a lift with some geezer about to tell you you need a new diff / steering rack / lower control arms / thermostat / PCV valve / rocker gasket / oil filter housing / injectors / turbos / cats.... Take your pick!2 points

All things considered with lexus, the tensioner does seem like the likely cause, And as someone with history working with (much simpler) engines, I had no problems agreeing with the lexus tech that this is a likely symptom, however I just hate the idea of chasing a problem around this engine not knowing whether it will be a problem again, also if bank 1 has this issue.. how long before bank 2 shows the same issue! I spoke to Lee at srd this morning, And I realised that love this car and realistically the only thing I would chop it in for realistically is a gsf... and i think thay might give the mrs a brain aneurysm, so I think theres only one way forward really, engine swap it is for me! So I'm on the lookout for an engine, any help from you guys on this front would be much appreciated.... I've seen the ads for the scrapped vehicles and talked to them, the 2010 already has it's engine sold and the 2008 is certainly expensive so I've got to keep my mind open and hope that something will come up, If anyone knows of any engines collecting dust somewhere im happy to give it a loving home where it will be pampered!! Honestly thanks for all your help so far and hopefully in advance for the help going forward Andy2 points

Cheers for the Welcome Mike. I like to get underneath the skin of the IS at tech level so probably will subscribe to toyota tech website to have more of an understanding. I'm speaking to my distributor of performance parts in the states and as the IS350 is quite a popular model, hes hearing that he could be working with a tech company that is developing a module that transforms the Lexus navi system to android auto or apple carplay. this is definately on my list to do as I find the Lexus infotainment interface is a little old hat.1 point

Everything is relative and so is speed. Hot hatches from today have the speed of supercars of 10 years ago. 30k now buys you a new SUV that takes some 5 seconds to reach 60. 2 liter 4 cylinder engines now can be had with more than 400 hp, all standard. Time has moved on. The debate if an IS250 / IS300H / NX or RX reaches 60 in 7.5 or 8.5 seconds seems irrelevant to me, neither of them are fast cars in todays standards, as long as you enjoy them it should be just fine?1 point

Cheers muka, out of interest why did you get rid of the mk4 supra? TT 6speed manuals fetch big money nowadays. I would love a supra but the cost of them compared to the is300 is worlds apart....... but fully understand why they are worlds apart, very iconic car!1 point

That's not the point though: we pay a lot of money for cars that are advertised as having all kinds of bells and whistles and it is fair to expect those bells and whistles to work, otherwise there is no point at all in paying the extra money for a premium car. Furthermore, a lot of us rely on these systems to do what they are supposed to do in support of our work/businesses. It is not always practical to have to stop to read and respond to messages: rightly or wrongly - this is another debate - the expectation placed on a lot of us these days is to always be "ON". I am on call 24x7 and can spend 4+ hours each day in my car. Not being reachable or available is often not an option (I work in Business Continuity / Crisis Management / Disaster Recovery). Incidentally, m wife's Peugeot 208 supports full Google / IOS integration: at the push of a button at the end of the indicator stalk you can get the nice lady to read your text messages and she'll ask if you want to dictate a reply, ask her to read you the weather or the news, warn you of traffic ahead etc, start/stop navigation, check the closing time of a shop on your way home, add reminders to your calendar and items to your shopping list, warn you of forthcoming appointments, select playlists on Spotify etc etc. As much as I like Lexus cars, it's about time they caught up, not with the best but with the rest with regards to infotainment and connectivity.1 point

Old tyres can go 'out of round' ie not fully circular any more. I've had this on two cars in the past 15 years. One car, an Audi A4, had Avon tyres and the other, a Jaguar XF, had Dunlops. Both exhibited a droning noise almost as if a wheelbearing was on the way out. Both resolved with new tyres and never had any problems with the replacement tyres. Wonder if it's this?1 point

Update. Popped into Listers Lexus and they took a look. They got it to work immediately however had found my emergency high vis vest under the seat and suspected this might have interfered with the system. Although i was still able to move the seat backwards and forwards manually. Anyway working now and need another home for my high vis.1 point

Gentlemen good afternoon, well, if there's no more input from you guys of wisdom I'll convey this Forum link to my indy mechanic to prepare stuff Thanks once again Malc1 point

I forgot to mention that after changing all my contacts numbers to start +44 when they phoned me they came up as unknown. So back to my phone to input my contacts numbers again. So now my contacts have 2 numbers in my phone. 1 normal and 1 as +44. This means the car picks up a message and displays their name and calls display names also. What a kerfuffle.1 point

Just had mine done at 55,400 miles after it went in for airbag recall and 8 year service. I don't think the water pump was ever a recall but most posts seem to say it'll go around 60K if it's gonna go. 495quid for the service and 573quid for the water pump (holy puzzle Batman!) But managed to negotiate 10% off all the parts with my Gold Members card and they stuck 25quids worth of fuel in it too (part of the recall deal apparently). Made sure I had about 5 coffees, 2 cans of coke and an entire pack of biscuits too so I reckon I'm quids in! Saw 2 LC's back in with the fancy pop out door handles stuck popped out! Dealer reckons they've sold 8 of the non-hybrid versions and had 4 back with the sticky handles! Oh dear!1 point

happy days... all seems to be fine. it was run out of fuel at auction site. i refilled and she started ok. trailered it to dealer for check up on laptop. all codes erased and drives perfectly so far with no lights etc. there is tons of history wirh car and previous owner had full extended lexus wty cover. only thing i have noticed was chain tensioner rattle starting up one time last night ... will keep eye on that.. 😊1 point

@WSandME, Lexus will execute a Hybrid health check for around £60 on its own. Otherwise it's included within a service.1 point

Mine is 2007 SE-L so there may be differences. The 450h was about performance not economy. (c.f. 0-60 times of pre-V12 Aston Martin DB7 or early Jaguar XK8.) Other hybrids may good around town but in my experience the 450h is not. I get about 30mpg or less with short journey (and cold engine) town driving. On the open road when it can get into "overdrive" (about 55mph) it is very good for a 10 year old 3.5l petrol engine. I get 35 - 40 with a best of 45mpg (over 80 miles). Pretty good for a performance car and it is about 30% better than my old 2nd gen GS300. (VED less than 2007 GS300 too.) I have heated and cooled seats which are also more comfortable than the GS I had before. I have never been in an LS so I cannot compare. The driver's headrest moves with seat positions set in memory which is very good. The seatbelt height is also adjustable. Cassette player: great. I have lots of cassettes which I can now play. Old does not mean of no functionality. I still have a fountain pen too. The 3rd gen GS was designed probably 8 years before the iPhone but there is some compatibility. I put 10 or so common numbers into the speed dial by hand. I don't want my other 638 contacts transferred. How would I use them unless I stopped in which case I just use the phone. I have 2012 edition maps but still no full postcode functionality. I have though been able to set every destination I have wanted albeit perhaps slower than a more modern system. I don't know if 2017 maps would upgrade the postcode functionality. The reversing lights were filament lamps as the car was designed before white LEDs were available They were poor so I replaced mine with LEDs. Much better. The boot is small and the boot light is akin to a Morris Minor starting handle. The road noise is very dependent on road surface and I was surprised it was no quieter than my old GS. My hearing is very poor and any road noise masks other sounds like speech from passengers. I would like quieter if possible. Passengers think it is quieter than their cars. I find conversation in their cars impossible. Worrying about battery level and how far or fast you can go without petrol is pointless. It's not something you can do anything about anyway. The computer will manage it. John1 point

Yes they do. On all current models, but not all trim levels. As with most if not all manufacturers, this is an "extra" that tends to be available only on range topers. I think they are only available on Premier or F-Sport with Premier pack.1 point

That's a great system for parking etc but I meant more like my system where a light blinks on either door pillar to warn you of a vehicle/bike etc approaching.1 point

Don't Lexus fit blind spot cameras on any of their models? My Volvo has them and they're brilliant.1 point

The ones I've seen have always been in the bottom right corner. I don't know if that's correct or not but would say so because of not seeing them positioned anywhere else. Have a look here for some info.1 point

I've attended meets at Coventry Transport Museum too. They're set up well for it and it's a great day out if you've never been. http://www.transport-museum.com/visiting/car_clubs.aspx If not for the 10th anniversary. Maybe something for the future. Especially if we start to see greater number of people coming, like at Cosford.1 point

I drive an ISF because I want to be different and own something that I know I'm not going to see going to work and back in. That's not something that can be said about an M4. I personally am not a fan of BMWs, never have been. I almost bought an E46 M3 maybe 8 years ago when I was 23 and was told by main dealer salesman that I "should look at something a little more within my price range" It pretty much sums it up for me. @Linas.P, what's wrong with the Audi brand?????1 point

No, I'm dis-Lexus, as in....I don't have one anymore! (-: Seeing spelling/grammar errors is unfortunate - I seem to spot them on 'A' boards from 50 paces, somehow. But then, I have no sense of smell now....so even me ain't perfect!1 point

It was reported on the television the other night that people look at their Mobile phones more than 150 times a day. Must be more than the number of times per day members look at this Lexus site !1 point

Glad you got to the bottom of that one without the need to spend money. It's surprising how little it takes to run a battery down. It means you can afford to get me something bigger for Christmas now!1 point

I'm more than happy to carry on the good work from @Flytvr and I know we have touched on the subject of the 'F' being ten years old next March/April and for as large as possible dealer involved meet somewhere central in the country to celebrate this. But I still feel that for all 'F' car owners on here to have a forum for those specific cars is important to the successful organising of meets as we go on into the new year, I am a little disappointed that still no one from the powers that be have commented on the idea one way or the other as yet as this can, in my opinion be only for the good for all concerned. This is a good site that IMO is well run with very few problems between members unlike quite a few othe car sites I could mention and with the continued involvement of all long may it last, there are lots of people on here old and new who have said they will be happy to assist with time and ideas which is what it's all about the people who make it work so we can get more enjoyment from the cars whatever model 'F' you have As regards the '10 year meet' I know @Mark Ghas touched on the subject with Lexus Cheltenham and he has quite rightly recognised that a face to face meet with them is the next best step and I will try and sort this in the next week or so.
