Hi, I've not been on here much recently due to my holiday and then coming back to a load of work that my colleagues kindly left for me 😧 Here's my quick update for anyone who cares: Holiday to florida was good and at least now I can say I survived a hurricane! I saw one gsf (doesn't look good in red) but no isf's. I got a 2.3 turbo mustang convertible for the trip. Overall it is a good car, apart from the completely numb steering, but a 4 cylinder engine is just wrong in a Stang! It went ok but just makes the wrong noise 😔 While I was away my car was in the paint shop having the front bumper, bonnet and sideskirts resprayed. No photos as it hasnt stopped raining since I picked it up but he's done a great job for £700. I've also had the mot this week which it passed with no advisories, not bad for 9 years and 107k miles 😎. Having said that the estimate for a service was a bit scary, apparently there is no record of my spark plugs ever being changed so i need them doing at great expense 🤤. Going to get that done next week once I've recovered from the shock. I've also ordered the usrs today and will be getting a full valet and ceramic coating for the new paint soon so let's hope the wife doesn't find the credit card statement this month 😳 P.s. there was a dodge dealer just down the road from where I was staying in Florida who had a very rare and random super bee tribute parked outside next to the hellcats. Not to everyone's taste but put a smile on my face 🤠

  2. Another small update, could not find m12 bolts with a 1.25 pitch thread long enough to go through the engine stand bracket and the engine block. I ordered some off ebay 100mm long and they are perfect. So will get the engine on the stand tomorrow and can set about pulling it apart. Also this turned up .......... Atleast now whilst im waiting for bits to come i can set about installing the AEM, im going to install it inside the glove box so its tucked up out the way. Im also looking to relocate the factory engine ecu in the passenger side top corner of the engine bay where the battery once lived. I can then relocate the battery to the boot. Its all about to get very fun!

Now let's get down to business your own car expenditure....... Ah yes I remember now......... Dear Mrs Russ I have it on good authority that your husband owes you...again a weekend away at a 5 starred Michelin 3 star restaurant Hotel somewhere of your choice in the principality....... Do any of the wives ever get to read this stuff or are my literary talents wasted 😁 🐀

  8. I use PoorBoys Wheel Sealant on all my wheels. It's not as long lasting as some of the ceramic coatings as it's just a wax, but it definitely makes a difference as wheels are easier to keep clean once coated.

  15. Cheers Jon. Think they did disconnect the 12v, as lost the windows, but soonroof and radio, trip etc remained. Either way, done now and a shiny new y piece fitted lol. Car a bit quieter and I think a little better mpg, but that's only based on one journey. Thanks

  20. It won't be using the mechanical brakes for most of the braking though - only at lower speeds. Ive managed to get down roads using just the brakes on my RX - all 2.1 tonnes of it and it was charging all the way down rather than using the mechanical brakes

Short journeys: little benefit from the hybrid system, especially in cold weather, as the car will let the petrol engine run until it has reached its normal operating temperature before going into "full hybrid" mode. The hybrid system does work well on country lanes, (Regeneration starts as soon as you lift off the gas), however, if you live in a hilly area, you will rely on the petrol engine a lot more and therefore use more petrol. Motorway journeys are not great for economy if you have a heavy foot. Based on my own experience of a similar mix, expect around 28-29MPG. Sure, the 400h is more expensive to buy than the 300/350, but there is more choice and road tax is much cheaper. I would also say that it is generally quieter and more refined, but not all will agree on that. Whatever you look at it, you will be buying a car that is around 10 years old, if not older. The cars are extremely reliable, but at that age some components will start to fail through wear and tear, and parts are not cheap. For instance a replacement side mirror will cost you around £450, fitted by a dealer. If you can, try and find one of the outgoing cars labelled EXECUTIVE LIMITED EDITION... they have all the extras with the exception of the rear DVD system.

Yes done that route and some really 'hairy scary' minor roads in the Alps but the only advantage of the Alps over the Scottish Highlands that I can think of for V8 owners is there are so many enticing long tunnels for exhaust sound clips. Late September/October is a good time to do the NC500 but I was up there earlier this year late August to early September and rarely got stuck behind anything. You do have to watch out for the odd stray sheep, cyclist, camper-van and highland 'coo' but most of the time it's just awesome motoring. With ample road to get by or passing places to permit good progress. Start where you like but officially it's here at Inverness. View from the top of the castle looking back down the river Ness towards Nessie. Some have accused the Highland Police force of turning a blind eye to car clubs enjoying the NC500 route but they strenuously deny it. I took this pic in the castle car park just after they unveiled their latest high speed interceptor pursuit car. Evidence that even in August you can have the place to yourself. (the ever so popular with car clubs - Kylesku Bridge) Though on closer inspection of the tarmac, it seems either Rusty or Ken Block may have been there ahead of me.

Hi this is truly a great trip ,I completed it in april this year with a group of MX5 owners .The information we received was that it is now getting very popular in the main summer months which makes progress slow over some single track sections , also accomodation can be difficult in some areas .Want a great testing run ? a couple of years ago we did the old Route des Grande Alpes from Annecy down to Menton on the Italian border , very challenging and exciting check it out Dave

  29. I know the instant torque of new turbo engines make the German cars more responsive but I like to work an engine, build up to the power and enjoy hearing it get angrier and angrier! I don't really care how quickly im going it's about the experience. I honestly don't think i could be trusted with 500+bhp on the public road anyway. Luckily the gsf only has 470 😁

  30. I would just disconnect the 12 volt battery This alone will completely isolate the high voltage battery as there are three large contactors that isolate the HV battery when the ignition is off. Removing the 12 volt supply stops any chance of these being pulled in connecting the HV battery to the car. If you must pull the HV link putting it back correctly is where everyone goes wrong. After closing the lever the whole thing has to be moved sideways to complete the operation. Failing to do this will give a red light and a fault code, and failer to go to ready. Powerflow will probably remove the rear exhaust section to replace the "Y" piece. This only require undoing two bolts, and slipping it from the rubber hangers. On a ramp takes five minutes if that. They will then be able to cut and weld it off the car without the difficulty of things being in the way. You will have to reset the auto close windows, and sun roof if you have one. You radio may also loose it's program setting, tone settings, and phone choice if you have more than one phone in the memory. That' about it. John.

  32. Petrol obviously. Faster in a straight line, cleaner, sounds better, can rev the guts out if it and no dpf to worry about. Diesel is for lazy drivers. Those who don't understand the concept of clutch control and how not to stall
