  3. But before doing this make sure you have the 3 button Master key and not the 2 button valet key as only the master key will release the lock.

  4. Two weeks after ordering, and for a car in stock in Bristol, and I don't have a delivery date yet. Lexus Swindon have kept me informed - the delay is down to Lexus needing to fit the parking pack before they will release the car to the dealer - and the latest is that the dealer will get the car on 21st September. Swindon then need to PDI the car and fit the protection pack and the side protectors, so I guess w/c 25th is the date for collection. I'll post a picture or two in the NX area of the forum when I finally get it. CVTs don't worry me at all. I've got a 2004 MINI in the garage - that I've owned from new - with a CVT. I get very frustrated with the motoring press and their (seemingly) deliberate attempts to convince readers that CVT is hopeless, largely because their testers don't know how to drive them properly. Ho hum. I only drive automatic and have done since 1988, and having owned and driven all sorts of transmissions over that time, the only ones I actively avoid are 'double-clutch' set ups, as I've never found one that doesn't constantly hunt around for the right gear or delays initial movement - which can be dangerous at a busy junction. VAG are the worst imho - just hopeless - in the end the one I had went bang (literally) on the outside lane of the M1 without warning at 40k miles, which I then found out happens more than you'd like to believe! That was when I moved to Honda and they haven't caused me any issues at all. Good cars, well engineered, comfortable and reliable - but they have lost their way over the past few years. I'm looking forward to Lexus ownership, that's for sure. My requirements of petrol/auto/4WD/Japanese meant that my shortlist was quite short. Add to that I don't like leather upholstery. I started looking at the NX Luxury, but there was no ability to delete leather. Then I looked at the F-Sport but the best deals were available - through CarWow - on the Sport with 'man made' leather so that's what I gone for.

  7. Good afternoon all, I've just ordered my first Lexus - an NX300h Sport in Mercury Grey with the parking and protection packs - after a good few years with Honda. I'm currently a moderator over on the HondaKarma forum, and the move away from a brand I've had for quite some time and one that I have a great respect for has been a difficult decision. Why an NX300h? Well, I only buy from Japanese manufacturers as I value the build quality and reliability after some bad experiences a few years ago with overpriced German rubbish - don't get me started on the VAG DSG gearbox! I looked at a new CR-V to replace my current CR-V, but to be frank I think it is a little out-dated now especially when compared to the Lexus. I like the way the NX looks, I like the interior quality and I liked the drive - in the end it was an easier decision than I expected. There were two deciding factors - one positive reason for buying and one negative. The positive was the deal and service from Lexus Swindon which has been simply excellent. The negative was that Honda have what they call 'Connect' as their latest 'app' based satnav and audio system, and IMHO it is hopeless. I'm not into tech, and just want stuff that is simple to use - and the Lexus standard system reminds me of the system in my current CR-V, and that was a real positive. I'm hoping to be an active member here, and looking forward to getting to know you all. I should pick up the car in a couple of weeks.

  8. Just returned from a 400 miles round trip this weekend to visit family in Scotland and first proper test drive of my new RC On board computer read 48 mpg at end of trip mostly 70 mph motorway with some country roads at start and end of each leg Suspension and comfort were excellent - certainly better than my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and previous Discovery Sport - possibly as good as my last Range Rover Sport Starting to open her up overtaking and it's good to have some power once more as well as a pretty sweet engine/exhaust soundtrack imho Now done 500 miles and no regrets - love it Did have a heart stopping moment as we got near home when a kamikaze pheasant came from nowhere and hit front corner of wing/headlight at 60 mph - thankfully no signs of damage but I don't think that pheasant survived

  10. When I first purchased my is250 that had the original dunlop tyres fitted I was disappointed with the load tyre noise. However I've recently had uniroyal rainsport's fitted all round and barely notice any road noise at all. These are by far my favourite tyres and I've had them fitted to several of my previous vehicles. In the wet nothing can touch them. They stick to the road like glue.

  12. The warning light is due to your brake light bulb failure. All IS200s beep when in reverse gear whether you have sensors or not. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

  16. No as far as i am aware, people have run their cars with a lot more miles. It states 60,000 is optimum time to change them. Its the cost that different dealers charge that is a worry to people. I have herd quotes of £500 and quotes of £200 ish. It is a couple of hours job i believe, so i would of done my own. Only reason i asked dealer to do it was because of the recall. They still charged about £75.00 labour even thou most parts were already off. Also charged me £15.00 for a puncture which i did not have. But that is another story, you do not get a service stamp i enquired about it. So service book would only say intermediate or full service. I may be wrong another member may correct me on this.

  18. When reversing if the mirror to adjust switch is set to the left (near side) then the mirror should automatically dip so you see more of the curb. If it was a power supply issue then the mirror would not dip as standard. With help of another (if your arms aren't long enough), have you tried manually moving (encouraging it gently) it as the mirror fold button is selected. Mine got moving that way and I've found that used regularly it works better as previously one side or the other would only part fold.

  19. How did you get on here Andy? I would ask if the noise is only when turning left, is it sharp left (acute full lock) or slight left at speed say exiting a roundabout? Bearings would normally grumble and be more noticeable with a left or right turn. On my LS430 the rear near side bearing caused a whine that increased in frequency with speed. In that case it was a rear bearing hub assembly that I had to replace. It was cheaper to buy 2 x Hub assembly from USA (£100) including import tax rather than source in the UK. I sold the second unwanted hub and got £60. 2 hours labour from the local garage £120 meant the cost of repairs was low. There are some good posts on youtube regarding SC430 rear rotor and pad replacement worth checking if you want (like me) to appear less confused when explaining to a mechanic.

  20. I worried about the lack of a spare and decided to buy a spare full sized wheel/tyre to keep in my garage. In the end I bought a set of 4 because that's what the guy was selling. My thinking is that you rarely get a puncture that you don't wake up to at home especially with TPMS working. If you are unfortunate enough to get a blow out, then being an AA member already they should get me and the car home. Spare sets or odd wheels can be very cheap - I tried to sell a set a while back and they got no attention at all on Ebay. There are some expensive odd single and sets of tyres about and I would suggest keeping an eye out for 1-4. It certainly comforts me to know that I have spares at home should I need them, but you do need the storage space I suppose.

  21. Reminds me of when I used to live at home with my parents. It used to be like that opening scene from Butterflies (one for the older members) where all the cars had to be maneuvered backwards and forwards to get in and out of the drive. Anyway, I think there were four or five cars and someone pointed out to my dad how extravagant this was "We don't drive them all at once" was his reply.

  22. Just had a H&S cat back with x pipe fitted on Thursday. Lots more rasp on throttle blips, about 50% more 'presence' on startup. I get a little more drone than stock up to 70 but it's silent 75 to 100 unless I start stamping on the loud pedal. Very happy so far. It transforms the car but as others have said it's all induction noise after 3600rpm. The exhaust just gives more shout up to then. Get one! You'll be happy!

  25. I agree with Richard about making more of keeping well maintained older vehicles running. The environmental cost of producing a new vehicle far exceeds the cost of keeping an older vehicle which is properly maintained on the road. This is the response I always given to anyone who says old cars are not environmentally friendly, cause pollution etc.

  28. Repair completed. Great service and a great job, I can't see where the chips were. Glad I paid for the cover and peace of mind for the next 2 1/2 years too. I suppose it depends how you use your car and where you have to park it regarding whether the cover works for everyone. Mine does 20k miles per year and spends time in hotel carparks, station carparks and public carparks and dings and dents are unavoidable in today's cramped carparks with legislation re minimum carpark space sizes still derived from the 60s and 70s when cars were quite a bit smaller, width especially

  29. LPG aside, I often think a little more should be made of the fact that some of us are keeping well maintained older vehicles running. I don't keep my '02 IS300 going for the good of the planet (sadly eco credentials aren't too high on my priority list when I look at motors) but I think many are a little blinkered about the impact producing a new vehicle has. It's all very well saying that the brand new hybrid whatever only emits unicorn farts and sips fuel but look at what's been produced to make that vehicle. The steel, the plastics, the precious metals mined by some poor sod in some far away hell hole. You can't tell me that I'm doing more damage to the planet running a thirsty 15 year old car than ordering a new economical one every three years. There you go. That's my rant-lite for this morning Your children can thank me later.
