  1. Thank you for your kind comments Lee. I bought the unit second-hand from a chap who was buying a much bigger one. It was nothing like it looks now when I got it. I insulated walls and roof with aluminium backed bubble wrap and then lined the inside with T & G cladding, my wife wasn't keen on me doing that but she is well pleased now that it's finished. I had some repair work to do at the base of one of the doors and also to the roof and then I put some decent shingles on the it rather than plain roofing felt and I then painted it inside and out. My wife wanted a whitewash look to the inside rather than solid paint. The coffee table and shelf unit were made from scraps of wood that were lying around the garage. There is also full electric power installed too. We are now looking for a pair of decent chairs to finish it all off. The final thing will of course be the sound of the sea.................hopefully! You may be able to see progress via this link http://s761.photobucket.com/user/bluenose1940/slideshow/Summerhouse

  2. Here we go... Not the best pics I'm afraid. I had to bring it inside. I went over the car with a fine tooth comb and other than a little wear and tear I think it can be described as mint. I can't recommend Lexus Sheffield enough. The whole process was professional, personal and efficient from start to finish. I may have paid top money for it but they've carried out an intermediate service, fitted two new tyres to the front, tracked it, MOT'd it, taxed it for 12 months, given me a year's breakdown cover and a 1 year warranty. The valet is excellent too. All in all very pleased and I've had chance to drive it all of about 5 miles! Better pics to come.

  3. This seems to make sense. Knock for knock - both parties lose their excess and no claims bonus. I find reading this thread very depressing. It does make you wonder about owning a expensive car. After reading Dougie175's posts I will NEVER buy a CAT C or D car, that is for sure. That airbag video was very sobering.

  4. The cam cover gaskets may be leaking, which leads to oil in the plug recesses and it gets on the threads as you extract the plugs. Lexus spec for plug tightening is 25 nm or 18 ftlbs.

  5. Not sure where you are, OP, but I can recommend Tech One in Sidcup for having work done. For parts, Toyota Celica Breakers have been good for locating Toyota and Lexus parts for me a bit cheaper than the dealers.

  6. hi aF Tim that will be your problem, everthing that you have described is down to the lexus, ( dont waste your time going to lexus they will never work it out), do a leak off test, change the injectors that are faulty. If you can get injectors from a 2008 car onwards, as denso changed them in 2007, ( I wonder why???) changing the injectors is easy, just make sure the engine is warm when you pull them good luck. ps then sell the car, the is220d is the worst car that lexus made in my opinion

  7. As we all know the insurance market is a cartel. In Ireland anyway, over the last two years we've seen 60 to 70 % increase in premiums. And that's coincidently across ALL insurance companies. Would it not make sense that insurance companies would benefit from sharing blame? Not just to reduce the burden of the payout, but also to remove the no claims bonus of both parties. I'd love to do the maths on that. Throwing out the buyer beware card is ridiculous. As John said above, it is a legal requirement to have insurance not a nice to have. They have all of the leverage in the transaction. This was reduced a little by competition in the market but as I said above, the cartel arrangement negates this. Sorry for the rant but in my eyes, car insurance companies come a close second to car rental companies in terms of unethical behaviour.

  8. Well on it goes! 126k on it now and just passed mot with no advisories! In the 11k since the last mot its cost us a cv joint (£192), one service (£110), ac recharge (£35), and two new Michelins (£220) - can live with that on a 15 year old car!

  9. I have just installed a small summerhouse in my garden and, my wife asked me to make it appear somewhat along the lines of a beach hut. I have done all of that and I am now thinking how nice it would be to have the sounds of the sea constantly playing in the background. I have found what I consider to be the perfect recording but, for the life of me I cannot see how to download it. I am hoping that someone on here may be able to point me in the right direction to get it onto my pc. I can then transfer it onto a USB stick and then find some way of playing it in the summerhouse. I have provided a link below to the sound that I am trying to download. I will be most grateful for any help. Thank you. For those of you who may be interested in what I have done, I have attached a couple of piccy's. http://www.stevenvrancken.com/pure-nature-sounds-of-the-sea.html

  10. I am a great believer in leaving modern high performance cars well alone in terms of wheels and wheel spacers. The car is designed over thousands of miles to run on particular wheel combinations. Putting spacers in surely will cause unnecessary stress on all sorts of components and possibly lead to premature failing of things like wheel bearings and drive shafts.

  11. I paid £360 for 2 second hand ones , the leak off test has to be home made and is attached to the injectors individually on the left hand side , if you inbox me I will give you my phone number and you can call

  12. Surely the best audio in the RC-F must be the engine and exhaust? I hardly ever listen to the radio/CD in my AMG, the supercharger/engine and exhaust were the greatest symphony possible...

  13. Agreed yeah I do have the tips but they I think all IS250's from first manufacture came with SS tips so nothing different about later models to early ones

  14. Thank you John, I didn't realise they were so cheap. Hopefully be easy to fit etc if needed. I will repost in the forum you suggested and thanks again.

  15. My 2010 F-Sport is made of mild steel, as far as I know none of the IS250's came with SS from factory

  16. I have only ever seen one car advertised without the ML, and I was quite surprised because I thought it was a standard fitment\default option. With regards the TVD I would agree that it probably doesn't have a great impact during day to day driving (assuming you're not pushing it everywhere you go) but the cost of this as an option vs. the £18k plus for the diff as a spare part seems it will make cars with a TVD more sought after in the future. When i was looking for mine I had the choice of a base car with only ML, about 10k less mileage and in very good condition, or a car with all options (including the light grey leather which i like as lifts the interior) and about 10k more miles and not such perfect condition. I went for the fully optioned car as I like my toys, don't do a massive annual mileage and i hope will be more desirable come resale time.

  17. The warranty T&C's can be found here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/warranty-and-insurance/#LexusCareExtendedWarranty It is pretty much what is given to you when you take out the policy. While I think it is fair enough that parts like shocks, clutches, brakes are considered wear and tear items, what isn't right is the lack of clarity on what criteria defines it as such. What seems to be happening at the moment is the warranty company deciding on a case by case basic, with no consistency. This shouldn't be allowed and some clearly defined parameters should be specified. That way at least you will know if, for example, your car is over 8 years old, or has done more than 100k miles, then the shocks will not be covered, and so forth.

  18. Torque vectoring - you can certainly feel the difference but in day to day driving, its probably not an option you want to tick as the standard LSD is fine for UK roads. Its expensive at nearly £4k too. ACC/PCS- Id expect this to be standard on the facelift. It works well but can get confused sometimes (quite rare) Dont know the relationship between TVD and ML - doesn't make sense to me either.

  19. highly unlikely to be oil coming up from the cylinders otherwise you would have poor engine compression as air would find its way out easier than oil. Either water/oil/engine cleaner has made its way passed the coil packs or you have poor seals on the inside of the cam covers allowing oil to drop down the plug tubes to sit on top of the plugs.

  20. The same could be said for anything but if you can build up new skills and learn you can continue to use them in the future, materials required to refurbish an alloy wheel are relatively minimal compared to some jobs

  21. 1/ As far as I can see the boot latch is not connected to the door locking process at all.... it has it's own receiver for the key, approximate range shown in green in the attached extract from the manual:

  23. It does seem that the SC430 has been given some priority, perhaps because there are fewer to deal with or maybe we SC owners are born racers and statistically more likely to activate the air bag. As a protest, perhaps IS owners should demand a protective suit and race helmet from Lexus until the recall work is complete. It would make the trip to the shops an event. It may not have been discussed here before as there are other corners of the net with a greater collection of SC owners. Thanks for raising it.

  26. Just booked my wife's IS300H for service on 30th August. Long list of things to do for Lexus Bradford: - Full Service, MOT, courtesy car, full valet, Recall work and Driver door light which doesn't have a cable after they repaired it.

  27. Well I finally found the problem tonight, I went and got the new pads and discs done and it wasn't anything to do with them. It transpires that a rod connected to the exhaust that sits in a rubber mount that takes the weight out of the exhaust system has snapped, and the rattle was the rod ratting away. so the mechanic has told me to just get it welded back on so it stops any added stress being put on the exhaust joints.

  28. I've not had any trouble with Mintex but I change the discs at the same time. Squeeling is either because pads are trying to get to grips with Discs that look like an LP or its because they have not been properly copper greased at the back. I have Goodrich stainless steel covered hoses and the Brakes are absolutely excellent. When I got the Car it was lethal as the brakes seemed non-existant. I don't believe it - to coin a phrase at the time, How it had passed an MOT still baffles me. Seriously deficient. Brake dust is to be expected on front brakes. It proves they are doing the job effectively. Bit of a pain however, and the front wheels are the only parts I tend to wash off the dust. Rest of the car just has to wait for its Birthday.

  31. I once saw a similar figure on the day I drove the car back from the dealers when I bought it, and that was it, I just struggle to achieve more than 27-28 on a run. Driving style and speed obviously.

  35. As a qualified VDA, the wing requires replacement, also the mirror surround appears to be cracked so replacement required, further investigation would be required to ensure no further damage to the mirror, the alloy wheel and tyre should both be replaced as it is impossible to check a tyre is fit for purpose visually, again the alloy has taken an impact and could contain a hairline crack only way to know if this is safe is to x-ray the alloy or replace to be safe. The the bumper requires a strip repair and paint and the R/F door requires a strip and blend. Please when you do have these repairs completed ask for a copy of the estimate and upload it so people can understand the work involved and can stop putting these couple of hundred pound prices on here and missing half the damage

  37. this is confusing me a little ......... if the potential claim is against the Lexus Main Dealer for mis-selling the warranty BUT it is being sold and pressured to be sold by Lexus itself BUT Lexus itself then sets the threshold to claim too high. then I don't see how the claim can be against the Dealer ! The row is between Lexus UK and the underwriter of their warranty surely ? The poor customer gets shafted in the middle and that's why the Dealer is trying to protect the customer .... against all the odds I surmise Malc

  38. I've heard of this from other customers of Lexus Cheltenham and Listers Lexus. Don't know what they're playing at but other dealers dont seem to know of it at all and found no play in my 5 year old RX when it went in too. After buying my 4RX from Cheltenham, I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt. They're not exactly what you would call the most honest of dealers

  40. @bobmc @peachy @J Henderson those wheels look absolutely stunning. I don't think I've ever seen a nicer looking alloy wheel. They are so much nicer than my f-sport wheels. I'm going to buy some 😀

  41. Fair play to you for having a crack. Not something I would take on as its far too time consuming and tricky. I had all 4 refurbished just after xmas for just £208. £52 a wheel. They did a cracking job and still look brand new 6 months on.
