  1. I use a Rubber Care Stick called "Gummi Pflege Stift" which you can get from Ebay or Amazon. The description of this says " Gummi Pflege provides long lasting protection against freezing for rubber seals in car doors, windows and boots.it also conditions helping to prolong the life of rubber seals against cold, heat and UV radiation from the sun". I use it in the winter to stop the doors jamming shut when really icy and it also helps if the rubbers are dry and brittle and need softening up again. it also gives a really nice looking shine as well.

  2. Further to my days test drive of the Lexus IS300h I thought I'd do something different to the normal reviews and condense it in to 5 simple word "Loved every minute of it!" Now for the nail pulling wait until October when I can take ownership of my new car.

  3. I had a new CT200h for 25 months, during that time I covered 38,000km (23,612m) and it returned 61mpg Ave. Including 2 trips to uk and around northern Europe, also trips to Dresden and Slovenia. The IS 'Mr. Jingles,' is now 16 months old, has 22,244km (13,861m) on the clock and is returning 51mpg Ave. Including 1 trip to uk and 2/3 to northern Europe. I found the CT too hard a ride so changed to the IS. I am happy with the change and with the mpg achieved in both motors. I use 'Fuelly' and 'Spiritmonitor de.'. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Hi Venkat I posted the above in May this year, as you can see I drove up hill and down dale, even across water! The CT is a good motor and very reliable, a good place to spend time, but for me and many others, it was too hard a ride. I changed to the IS for the better ride, and it is. If, as you suggest, it is going to be used a lot, I would recommend the IS, it is an even better place to spend a lot of time, with more comfort and almost noise free, + the Lexus reliability. The economy is a little less than a diesel, but it's more than made up for in respect to comfort. Yes, as stated above by Geof. and Paul there are many things that affect economy, I could add more, driving a Hybrid takes a little getting used to, but once mastered, can give good results. It is a personal choice of course, might be a good idea to test both if you can for a day. Good luck whatever you decide to do. Best wishes. Michael.

  4. Since last year we've had a Jaguar specialist start a new business on the site where my workshop is. He's been working on Jags for 40 years and knows them inside out. Yesterday, and because I couldn't be bothered, he put new front discs and pads on my LS (charging me only £30 labour) He gave it a good looking over while it was in the air and was really impressed by the underside. After taking it for a test run he came back and said he was so impressed by how smooth and quiet it is that it makes Jags seem like ****! When I dropped it off yesterday he couldn't work out at first why it made a nasty noise as he tried to start it, that's because it's already running was my reply! Not bad coming from a man who's worked on "prestige" cars for so many years. He also put a new cam belt kit and auxiliary belt on my Volvo today, all for £160, very happy with that.

  5. Yes Phil If you look through my archive I was the the guy who posted that fix way back then . I also fixed the LCD readout on the AC/ Temp/time display on my Mark 1 but the latter took 14 hours and numerous emails trans Atlantic to a guy in San Fransisco who had sourced a manufacturer and programmed the LCD and sold them initially for the US market. He supplied me with the LCD and a RHD convertor as the original LCD was for LHD models. It was a challenging task and done because Lexus did not have the part and I am particular in having the original status quo, looking back and bearing in mind the vehicle no longer exists one might ask , was it worth the effort, my response, of course," In pursuit of perfection".

  6. Yep, how do you bump start a car with a dud starter if it's auto? Battery was dead? Still worth getting that money back.

  7. It's obviously different for a company wanting to make money, but...until last year I had a Vauxhall Vectra estate which I used for work, and a regular issue is the little plastic housed motor that operates the air re-circulation flap, it's a nasty Chinese made part. It has 3 nylon cogs inside and a tooth always breaks off a cog making it click as it operates. Not wanting to be beaten I took it apart and replaced the tooth cog with a piece of plastic from an old tooth brush which I fixed with glue and re shaped. It lasted 5 years, so some DIY fixing is worthwhile just for the satisfaction of beating the system, and that's worth more than money!

  8. I assume this is the cabin filter? It would have to be in a very blocked state to affect the cooling of the AC. Just remove it, give it a brush off and put it back to see if that makes a difference. The active filter needs to be changed every year or two otherwise the carbon will be saturated and will no longer remove smells. Consider the following as a third party alternative: http://www.pollenfilter.co.uk/display_filter.php?id=298&part=M2209

  9. Ditto, and only last night I noticed footwell lights! Bad, I tried in vain to find a way to adjust the sensitivity of the auto headlights, mine go on and off like the proverbial whore's drawers
