  1. The engine may have been replaced but what about all that water now possibly hidden in box sections, lurking in wiring looms slowly eating into those copper wires turning them to a green powder heading towards the ECU by capillary action. Also bear in mind that if the car is a former insurance write off you will have to declare this and if the car is written off again the settlement figure will be significantly reduced. There are plenty of other cars for sale buy one of these for peace of mind.

  2. Ok guys, here again LS430 2002 Had on the dash the following lights vsc, big red triangle, engine management, and vsc Check on lcd display. It's been on over a year and has been annoying to say the least.... Let's get rid of these lights shall we 1;Ok, under dash in front of left shin obd plug socket for diagnostics. 2; MAKE SURE VEHICLE ON TOTALLY FLAT SURFACE AND LEVEL 3;Bend paperclip into "u shape" And insert one end in 2 and one end in 4 4; put key in ignition and turn to on, not start, but the final click before starter would turn . 5; sit back for two minutes, literally but not exactly, and watch things flash on and off the dash. Vsc test will appear in lcd display. 6; turn ignition off , remove paperclip. 7; replace paperclip this time in 3 and 4 pins as before but, moving one across the top to 3 but using 4 on the bottom 8; turn ignition on to same position as before 9; now watch as all the abs, eml, vsc, sport, ride height everything flash on and off. Again let it do this for a couple of minutes. You may also see "VSC 43" appear in the lcd display ( I think it just guessed my age right) the sat nav unit will also go into Japanese ecu mode press the left button bottom right 10; turn key off, remove paperclip and leave vehicle to think about what it's done, yes calibrate without any interference, for again two minutes ish. 11; jump in the car, start her up and go for a drive. The engine management light may Or may not stay off. If the fault is failed open then it will keep eml on until "fixed" Mines on but I got rid of 95% of my warning lights and display read outs..... Hope this helps you all as it's been driving me mad,

  5. You could purchase a legal copy of the software then you would get proper support? We don't allow the discussion of unlicensed, pirate copies of Toyota software on these forums.

  6. anything thats outside of normal everyday driving i would expect to be excluded as warranties will only be based on everyday / normal driving styles.

  7. I have now removed the stiff pin and given it a good clean up, a light coat of grease and it now moves freely. I initially tried to remove the rubber boot where it was attached to the cylinder but it was reluctant to part company so I left it in place there. Instead I released it at the pin end where it was just pushed over a lip on the pin and it came away here quite easily. I squirted some Plus Gas dismantling fluid down the pin to help release it and get it moving. Working the pin backwards and forwards with a spanner on the nut using one hand and a screwdriver in the other hand pushing the edge of the nut on the pin, I managed to ease the pin out. I cleaned up the inside of the cylinder using a flat blade screwdriver to scrape the debris out that was in there - several scrapes with a dab of grease of the tip of the screwdriver removed most if not all of it. I have done the other car as well, which was much the same. Three pins moved freely but one was seized. This is now moving freely. It was the pin with a groove in it (bottom pin) but there was no O ring on the pin or left in the cylinder. I tried an ordinary O ring on the pin but it this made it too thick to get the pin back in the cylinder, so I left it as it was. There were no shims fitted to the pads on this car either, so I will try to source some used ones or new aftermarket ones if there are any. Thanks to all of you for your help and comments.

  8. Generally I wouldn't touch any car that's been through floods. Id presume if it's been through flooding then warranty would be expired

  9. Cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol (or even WD40) - if they are really corroded a nail file or proper workshop file work wonders! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. My RX is 13 years old, and has been in the south west all it's life near the coast. I haven't got any body work issues with rust nor had and drain holes blocked but under body rust is a slight issue. Additionally look for water in the tail lights (a really simple fix but common) - I found out recently the fuel tanks are plastic but haven't checked the original straps yet underneath to see how they are fairing. If you get a bargain on an RX and can afford to budget / factor in an undersealing refresh then you'll be very pleased with an RX! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. During a routing service (80k miles), the dealer identified an oil leak around the head gasket. Some seal needed to be replaced. This was covered by the extended warranty. While replacing the head gasket seal, the technician noticed that the coolant reservoir had a small crack and was leaking. This too was replaced under warranty. Money saved: Approx £620.00

  12. As above, make sure its had the 60k service done as its one of the expensive services. however, if its a good price then you can always get it done yourself but just factor the cost in. Check the tyres - some have budget tyres on like Nexen - shouldnt be on the car IMO, especially if you're paying dealer prices for it. 12V battery was a problem on the 400h, not the 450h! Nothing to worry about there. No issues with the hybrid setup, as reliable as they get - somewhat more so than conventional engines from other brands. No issues during ownership, mine is 4 years old with 40k miles. The only thing to remember is, if you have the RX parked outside, keep the parking brake off in winter, tends to stick a little bit, same when parking the car after washing. Check the brake calipers, some of them have surface rust on them, OFC get the dealer to refinish these. Make sure the colour of the wheels are the same on each side as well, the paint is quite hard to match.

  13. Point taken David, but distance does not minimise their Stautory obligation to you. You might consider telling them that you will have the matter addressed to your satisfaction at your local Lexus Dealer and the Final Cost invoiced directly to them (the seller),or you might consider paying it yourself and pursuing them through the Small Claims Court for settlement. You might also consider looking at honesttjohn.co.uk for many many similar cases to yours. I will let the matter rest now but do inform us all of the outcome. Regards John

  14. Same happened to me on an RX300 - I took my recently refurbed wheels in to get tyres fitted and it can back at 36psi! I usually run 34psi all round but handbook states 32psi recommended... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Mini 0801 cameras and their later models are made by various Chinese factories, The current model is the larger 0806 which is slightly larger than its predecessors and has far more ventilation holes in its case. That's because the earlier models used to overheat. The quality is variable. It apparently depends on which Chinese factory actually made the model you have bought - but if you get a good one it does work., the picture quality is good and the big bonus with the Mini range is that the cameras are so small you can hide them entirely behind the rear view mirror. The Mini cameras all slide into a stick-on windscreen mount which contains the GPS. Four Gold plated pins on the camera's mounting lug take power from four pins in the GPS mount. They need to make a good contact to ensure you get GPS readings on your camera. You can by-pass the GPS mount and connect the camera direct to the power supply - but bear in mind that the 0806 camera has the new micro USB socket and requires the smaller, thinner micro usb connector NOT the mini USB connector. (You can buy an adapter if you are stuck). If you connect to your camera - or your GPS camera mount - to the Lexus cigarette lighter socket you should be fine - but don't be tempted to try to wire the camera with a hardwire kit to the sunroof power in the headlining . This is because - even though your hardwire kit will come with a converter which brings the 12v current down to 5 volts (which is what the camera needs) - the voltage is NOT stable. If you put a meter on it you will see the current fluctuates widely from as low as 1.5 volts to 9 volts . THIS WILL BLOW YOUR CAMERA. Your camera needs a stable and rock steady 5 volts - so always take your power from the ciagrette lighter or from the auxiliary power outlet at the base of the centre console via the cigarette lighter plug which arrived with your camera . That will take the 12v current down to a clean and steady 5 volts. Most makes of dashcam are intolerant of incorrect voltage so it's absolutely essential you check and double check the voltage they are going to receive is correct BEFORE you connect them up.You will need a USB voltage meter with mini and micro inputs to check this voltage - you can't do it with a conventional tester with probes.
