  1. Hi Daniel, I am the staff, my clones flew the nest many years ago and now have 'staff ' of their own. I really can't understand why you are so rotten to your wife, after all those years of happiness and pleasure she has bestowed upon you, waxing indeed, how could you be so cruel? Mrs. Z. will be 71 next month, I think, - "is that right dear?" "Blimey! All right, keep your hair on, what's left of it." - yes, the loud shriek and flying dishcloth just confirmed that now. " no dear, I said that now, not that cow, turn your hearing aid on for once." During car washing she has long been relegated to menial tasks, providing tea/coffee at regular intervals, getting out and putting away the cleaning gear, then, praising me on doing such a good job and telling me how tired I must be, the latter gets me a good back massage. Post washing, if it's a day like today, 27°c, I then sit under the pergola and eat an ice cream - I am tired after all, she said so. - It is a pleasure watching her from my vantage point, happily walking up and down the garden, cutting the lawn, then, doing a little weeding, after which, she makes a cupper and we both enjoy, sipping away under the pergola. I don't like to feel she gets too bored in her pensionable years! Oh! the wash, :- rinse, shampoo and rinse, 30min. Drying 30min. Drying around the door inners and door sills 30min, another 30mins drying around the boot inner and in the engine bay. Vacuuming around 30 min. I get backache just writing it, bring on the ice cream. Best wishes. Michael.

  2. A couple of weeks ago I had an extended test drive for a couple of days in a BMW i3. I know, I know it's sacrilege to stoop so low, but honestly I just couldn't help myself. Anyway, the i3 is a bit of a hoot to drive, instant acceleration without even trying, scoots round corners and through the traffic like a rat up a drain pipe. But for me the negatives were its downfall; drivers seat is like sitting on a wooden bench, seems to be very little padding and there's no lateral support. Every time you cornered, it felt as though you were about to slide off. With the seat belt, you grabbed a hold of it to pull it across you, but due to the tongue sliding down the belt, you have to hold it with one hand and slide the tongue across the belt to the buckle, a silly minor thing, but with the Lexus the tongue is held far enough up the belt so you can buckle it easily. You get a lot of reflection from the dash onto the windscreen. I just couldn't find a comfortable seating/steering wheel position. Drivers door armrest felt too low. The default drive mode is "Comfort" but that like driving a Lexus in sport mode on steroids. You can easily drop it to "Eco Pro" which softens the the settings to feel like a normal throttle pedal, but the downside of this setting is that you're limited to 50mph, it's easy to get a WTF moment when you overtake someone and the speed limiter starts its antics. One pedal driving, very easy to do and you soon get used to the strong regenerative braking. Plenty of room in the front and with the windscreen set so far forwards it's a very light and airy cabin. The rear is a bit on the small side, but who really cares, that's for passengers anyway. In the end I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't overcome the negatives so it was back to the drawing board and I'll be picking this little beaut up on Wednesday.

  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC. We need to see pictures of this supercharged engine and the car of course. According to the link below the problem is generally caused by worn bearings in the IACV which can be replaced for a few pounds, the fact that the idle speed changes when you tap the valve body would seem to confirm this as the mechanical shock will release the tight bearings. Got to be worth a try me thinks. http://planetsoarer.com/IAC/iac.htm

  7. A lot of people tried them. The verdict is split. Those who believe that paying more for fuel means getting better value say that they get better running smoother response. Those unbelievers say there is no difference. Premium fuels carry an anti-knock reagent which means that the engine is less likely to pink which means that if it is monitored correctly, it can run leaner before pre-ignition occurs. However, it seems that the CT isnt programmed to sense the fuel which has been put into it and advance its ignition curve and lean off its mixture accordingly., it is simply programmed to run on one grade of fuel ( which isn't premium.)

  8. Stuart, that looks great. To me, that is what the LS cabin should have looked like from the factory. The wood effect makes it much classier. Now all you need is a the half-wood steering wheel that came as an option on your model. I fitted a nice used one to my mk4 for around £50. Made a big difference.

  9. Stuart, the gearbox will only 'kick down' if you shove your foot down. If you pussyfoot around you won't get anything like the performance the car is capable of. In fact there are two stages of kick-down on an LS400. You have to find a clear road and 'give it some beans'. You will NOT harm the engine in the slightest. It's the most robust V8 out there.

  10. Wont fit, bumpers have slightly different curvature. You'd struggle to find an aluminium one as they arent that great - they scratch too much. Id get the plastic one TBH.

  12. You guys have far too much time on your hands. I leave the cleaning to the staff - sorry, kids - and the waxing to the wife!

  13. It seems that saying "as far as they're aware" gives them a get out option if everything doesn't. On the other hand the LS430 has a lot of things that some would never use anyway so maybe that a genuine comment. I wouldn't mind 50 miles to view a car, I've done 5 times that. I'd be a bit concerned about the service history though. The plate does look like a NI reg, although you can buy the NI ones easily. Of course the sellers surname could be Zebedee or Zechariah!!

  16. I believe all CTs have hill-start assist, all grades from launch in 2011. The current models (2015 facelift) have the same automatic system fitted to the IS. You don't have to press the pedal hard, the vehicle automatically detects it is on a hill and engages hill-assist when you release the brake pedal. It will hold for 2 seconds. You don't get any audible confirmation/warning.

  18. Why would anyone pay £44k for a 4 year old ISF when a 1 year old RC-F is almost the same. Cheltenham are daft if they paid £42k in P/X.

  20. Road noise is due to the tyres - its got beefy 265's at the rear and it does depend on the tyre ratings too. They usually stick the cheapest tyres they can get on the Used models so most likely, if you change the tyres you'll have less road noise With the luxury you won't get the tyre roar and the engine note wont be as loud. The F-Sport has a different intake leading to the sound you get in those models.

  21. I've had my 11 plate Premier for a few weeks and I've achieved 65mpg over 250 miles.. Driving extremely conservatively and going no more than 58mph on dual-carriageways (sorry other road users).
