  1. I agree, the RX400h, despite being a little less powerful, feels faster than the RX450h. I am not sure whether it is indeed true, or simply that the 450h feels slower because it is quieter due to better insulation (laminated glass etc) and a deeper exhaust note. In any case, I have never felt that the 450h is under powered.... under stated maybe... but not under powered... :-) Just make sure you don't select ECO mode, which is in my view and gimmick with no real benefit.

  2. Hi Jeff, I wash 'Mr. Jingles,' once a week and use 'Autoglym' products. I wax the car about once every two months, I also wax the front and rear screens, the alloy wheels are washed each week with the car and waxed about once a month. I have black carpets and wash them about every 3 months with a standard carpet cleaner, for the seats and other upholstery I use warm water and a drop of 'Fairy liquid.' I just use a damp cloth in the engine bay each week. I also clay the car at least once a year. There are no hard and fast rules for specific cleaning products, it depends on individual taste. The frequency depends on the type of climate you live in, the time of year and of course how fanatical you are. In the UK I lived in site of the Isle of Wight, salt was my enemy, now I live in sight of the Alps, dust is generally my enemy. I also keep 'Mr jingles,' garaged at home. I would highly recommend that you read and download 'Rayaan's guide to cleaning your car,' it's on the site, very informative and well written. I would only advise you to always hand wash your motor, never put it through a car wash. Good luck. Michael.

  3. Found the picture. Mine is the one on the right. Not quite as good a shape as the other one. Both 08 models in SEL spec with Nav fitted. Only difference was that it was a 250 Auto.

  4. The RX400h is faster slightly due to it weighing a lot less than the 450h.

  6. Had mine for 3 years, covering 18k miles per year without real problem. Apart from the inverter recall, and regular maintenance, the only issues I had was condensation in the headlights and a mirror that would not dip when going into reverse. All was sorted under warranty.

  7. I had a new CT200h for 25 months, during that time I covered 38,000km (23,612m) and it returned 61mpg Ave. Including 2 trips to uk and around northern Europe, also trips to Dresden and Slovenia. The IS 'Mr. Jingles,' is now 16 months old, has 22,244km (13,861m) on the clock and is returning 51mpg Ave. Including 1 trip to uk and 2/3 to northern Europe. I found the CT too hard a ride so changed to the IS. I am happy with the change and with the mpg achieved in both motors. I use 'Fuelly' and 'Spiritmonitor de.'. Best wishes. Michael

  11. Halfords card systems are not very modern so all cards are done manually. They work out the discount, add it to the till then scan the cards. Also, no point asking staff about the discount, these are exclusive to the club and not known by the staff, however, they are all valid, and if any issues they should read the instructions on the back of the card.

  12. Agree with the wires everywhere thing. I have fitted a £40 camera to mine (front only) and it suckers the windscreen to the left of and behind the rear view mirror (from the drivers point of view). The supply wires go up into the headlinig where the centre light fitment is. There is a 12v supply up there. Took some courage to wrench the fitting free (really is a push fit) and the wire is very thin green in the multi plug. I wouldn't want to load that too much but the camera seems ok. That supply is turned off with the ignition so the camera won't flatten the battery. THe whole installation is pretty invisible.

  14. I definitely don't work for Lexus R&D I am not saying that it is cost effective, or even a good idea, just that if a manufacturer doesn't offer it, it doesn't automatically mean it can't be done. I was sort of making an anti 'the manufacturer is always right' statement, if you know what I mean.

  17. Evening Mark, Thanks for letting me know just how risky this could be. I am obsessive about maintaining my LS well, so don't want to damage anything. It looks like it will be ultra violet glasses then Or one day buying an LS430 with the different coloured needles as an addition to the family! (that will be a good excuse to get another Lexus) Alex

  18. Hi Ian and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike

  20. Ho ho:) buy an aftermarket sat nav like tom tom or garmin, stump up for the optional lifetime updating they offer on these and ignore the Lexus unit entirely. Manufacturers havent seen fit to offer lifetime sat nav updates yet since the unsuspecting few maintain a money flow for update works. ( sometimes even updates with out of date material). A cynical view , I know but I know of only one other way which is rumoured to sometimes work and that is to put your money into one of those iffy things they market on e bay sometimes, I am not really sure if they even work or how they work.

  21. As I thought you dont have a clue. I do not sniff LPG and I do not have to fiddle around to connect the pump hose and believe you me if a tank of petrol was to explode on you you wouldn't be posting on any forum anywhere after that. The fumes alone from petrol should they ignite would give you a good idea of what it would be like to be caught with a flame thrower. As there are no fumes escaping when an LPG tank is being filled you never have to worry about being an extra in Apocalypse Now.

  22. Just to advice - tried sourcing the rear and head lights from breakers recently and asking prices are £600+ for fronts, £350+ for rears per side (not per pair). The pre-face-lift ones are about half price £350/£150 respectively. after that I though I might look to "IS-F look" rear with white indicator (instead of yellow) which I actually prefer over the face-lifted "L-finesse" design - "IS-F like" costs around £300 a pair (Chinese LED), the originals are like £1000+. That is obviously personal, but I found this being too expensive as cosmetic upgrade, especially for late pre-face-lift models like mine (end of 2008), where the price difference between the newer and older car would be similar to the cost of the lamps alone (not to mention there are many other differences in face-lifted model).
