  1. I don't know how much a main dealer radiator is but I seem to remember someone saying £350? It's very easy but the hardest part for some reason is getting the small hoses to separate from the transmission pipe. The thing is, if you change those hoses as well, which I certainly recommend, you can just cut them and put the new ones on the new rad before you fit it. Basically you drain the coolant (I let mine go as I wanted to refill with new) remove the air filter housing (just two bolts) take off the top air intake ducting, disconnect the bottom hose from the thermostat housing (leaving it on the radiator) disconnect top hose from rad, disconnect the fan motors power plug, remove the two top radiator clamps and it just lifts out. You only loose a tiny amount of ATF. Then you can undo the 10mm bolts that hold the fan assembly and put on the new. The bottom hose and new ATF hoses can then be put on before the new rad is replaced I also recommend making sure the water is all drained before cutting/disconnecting the ATF hoses, just to avoid letting any coolant in. This photo is with the hoses and fans all connected to the new rad just before re-installation. The other thing worth a mention is that all this can be done from above, without the need to remove the under tray. The other thing you need is 600mm of 8mm hose to join the new rad to the 10mm hose from the expansion tank, plus an 8-10mm connector which you can get on eBay for £5 Just remember to disconnect the battery earth before starting the job!! As I said, I did this to my last LS430 and covered about 3K and all was fine.

  2. Shes back and running like a new baby. I got lost on the way back, I am not sure what happened, must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Took me 45 miles to get home, garage is only 4 miles away. I am just so happy. Mike.

  3. A week last Friday we were off to France for a week's skiing holiday. Car was all loaded up during the day and we were due to leave at 19:00 in order to catch a Eurotunnel booking later in the evening. We locked up the house, climbed in the car, seatbelts on, pressed the power button and ...... car wouldn't start!!! All the normal dashboard warning lights lit up as usual but "ready" light didn't. Tried several times, each time same result. Back into house to ring Lexus Recovery who said they would try to get to us within an hour. Meanwhile my daughter had been looking at the driver's manual to see if there was anything else we could do and found some advice on how to do an emergency start of the hybrid system. Without foot on brake pedal press the power button to activate accessory mode, press foot on brake pedal and while keeping pedal depressed press and hold in the power button for about 15 seconds and, hey presto, ready light comes on and car is ready to go. Tried turning car off and restarting normally a couple of times with no problem. Rang Lexus Recovery to cancel and off we went with fingers crossed managing to just catch our shuttle. Car performed brilliantly for the rest of the week although we were in fear and trembling every time we went to start, especially when getting off the train! Car is booked in for Lexus to have a look on Saturday to see if there is an underlying problem. Will report back in due course. JBP

  4. Phil, many thanks for all your information especially taking the trouble to provide photos. I bet you are pleased with yourself after seeing the split ATF pipes, what a save! Have just heard from an American owner who replaced his rad because it had split along the top. What he described as a common occurrence. Not relevant to the ATF cooling but all the more reason to renew the rad. Which make of radiator did you buy from Europarts? If the Lexus [Denso] original is liable to fail perhaps there is little point paying £280 odd for the original equipment. There seems plenty of choice at about £120 including one from Denso.

  5. Yes it is in the drivers side fuse box. Labelled CIG, 15 A - it powers both sockets. If you remove the cover there is a diagram on the back.

  9. Happy days! In the days before cats, I had an old Vauxhall Victor FB estate, and it suddenly refused to go above 30 mph, though still ran smoothly. I was clueless as to what was wrong, having checked all the usual ignition and fuel supply suspects. Brother in law just happened to mention his scooter did the same thing, and it was collapsed baffles in the exhaust. I promptly disconnected mine at the manifold, and it took off like a very noisy rocket. One new exhaust later, problem gone. Not come across it in the forty years since though, so I guess you can count yourself a bit unlucky.

  11. Hiya, As far as I know the exhaust mountings are the same for the S, SE and Sport. I have had a SE and now a Sport and have had sports exhausts on both models. I fitted the exhaust to my SE which was the HKS Silent Hi-Power, a subtle exhaust that's not too loud. My Sport came with a sports exhaust already on it but when i had to remove the back box to reseal the joint the mountings looked exactly like my old SE IS200.

  12. Shouldnt really jump start the IS. Has a big sticker on the bootlid saying "Do not attempt to Jump Start this vehicle". 4 weeks is not an issue, I left mine over winter for 4 weeks and it was fine. Petrol goes a bit off. I can feel the car running better on petrol straight from the station than on the 4 week old petrol (wife fills up once every month or something)

  13. Indeed high pressure, but only on the inlet side. Really quite low pressure on the return. Well when I say return, it's the diesel that leaks internally in the injector that returns to the tank. As you can see from my pics, No.2 is leaking somewhat more than it should . Hence P0093 fuel leak large! I believe in general, they should not leak more than 40ml in one minute from start up. Injector 1, 3 and 4 are within that limit. I did take pics but my phone camera is playing up and didn't save the images, grrrrr. I will try and do some sort of walk through in the near future. I haven't got the money spare at the moment as I have sunk all I have into my new garage. So the new injector will have to wait a few weeks unless someone is feeling extremely generous. Actually my brother owes me money Well lets see what happens...

  14. Fourteen miles will be fine to recharge a good aux battery, if you are at all worried have the battery tested, and remember the aux battery only has to wake up the drive battery system, then it has done its job, hence it is so small.
