Hi folks, Picked up my new Isf yesterday and loving it. It's a 2013 plate with just over 12k, barely run in :-) Been ages since ive had a proper quick car, ran a couple of rx450h's for the last few years but before them I used to run a TT 6sp Supra which I stupidly traded for a Monaro. Anyways that engine noise is way too addictive lol but it's going to take me a bit to get used to the handling and power. Cheers Mike2 points

Picked her up last weekend from Southampton after trading in my 2007 335i M-Sport. She is a 2008 with 50k on the clock (Full Lexus Service History). I absolutely love her. She is called Lichelle :-) Apologies for poor photo quality. She's a little dirty as well as I picked her up in minging weather.2 points

If you buy me the 2 f sport badges you used for your boot, you can have both of my original F sport badges :P2 points

I'm going to try and get some videos done of my revised H&S system with the X pipe. Think you guys will be surprised how much difference it has made. Absolutely NO drone on motorways now. Seems a bit more responsive with pickup as well? Will be interesting to see how it gets on with the dyno when I get a chance to take it. Got a 2 week deadline on at the moment though to finish the seats and gauge install before my photoshoot for Banzai! Busy fortnight for me! Nice purchase Lee. Looks like a minter to me.2 points

Few issues I can see straight up - 1) Car is on a private number plate - make sure you get this removed otherwise the car just looks older than it is. 2) Calipers have a bit of rust on them - get them to paint/replace these if you are considering buying 3) The valve caps have been replaced with cheap plastic ones, they should be metal like the valve itself. 4) Can see a bit of rust on the nuts - get them to replace these 5) Im not sure whether they have properly valeted it yet but the driver side door handle looks very shiny - need a good clean. 6) as for the seats, you are right, it appears they look quite good in pictures apart from the creasing which is on the nearest bolster to the door (this is completely normal however the dealer should be able to rectify it by ironing the seats which will help alot!). There shouldnt be any scratches (dont have any on my car) unless someone has been getting in with studded jeans or something. These are what my seats look like: I have 38k miles on my car. The seat looks like it has scratches on but they arent scratches, its just the grain in the leather which looks like that. Is that what is on the car you have viewed? or does it have actual scratches in it? On a side note, my dealer - Stockport have just got a Mercury Grey Premier with Ivory leather and design pack. Its a 62 plate with only 25k miles on and is £2k cheaper. Might be worth taking a look http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-RX/RX-450h/3.5-Premier/Stockport/3427896-605647732-1607047.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ No pictures yet but the spec is what you want. It does have a sunroof like the Woodford one too apparently (its listed anyway but might have to confirm this). Stockport usually has vehicles in great condition too.2 points

Guys, Just wanted to say Paul has added the TOM's panel filter and also the latest HKS coilovers for our cars. Check out the full range of products he can supply here: http://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/lexus/is-f.html?SID=2f8588c190a85e89c6fcb96a90b25f87 Know at least one owner was after the TOM's panel filter. Think Paul orders from Japan weekly, but he can stock these if there is enough demand. Cheers for now. Peter1 point

I had the ML set up in my previous IS250-SEL saloon. Yes, it's very good. I have the "standard" sound system in my IS250 convertible. It's very good too. Like bobmc, I'm a bit of an audiophile too. My conclusion is that both systems are more than adequate for music reproduction in the noisy environment of a car travelling along the road. As Mrs ledzep drives the car a lot too, memory seats is far more important to me than the sound system.1 point

Honestly if you're doing 1 mile commute then I dont think the RX400h will be beneficial in terms of fuel economy. It'll be doing the same MPG roughly as the RX300. If you've turned the car on, it will run the AC and then automatically start the engine if the battery needs charging.1 point

Thats a healthy proposition for you Robb!! Another option might be to get the new style F-Sport badges that are used in the US for the rear bootlid and with a bit of blue plastidip or paint, colour the F in blue and the SPORT in black?1 point

Agree with Jason. Make sure you have your climate control NOT on "dual" mode. Then check again to see if they are blowing the same temperature air out. The dual function lets the passenger and driver set different temperatures and then, if the setting is on auto, it blows air of different temperatures on one side dependent on temperature set.1 point
-
Hi. On most RX400h you can set the temperature separately for the driver and passenger. You have to go into the climate menu and you should be able to see the settings there. Hope it helps. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk1 point

You could try getting a custom one made from somewhere using this graphic: Alternatively you could use an F badge instead - There are some like the ones below. They are OEM for the IS350C F-Sport but only come as a full engine cover, Part number PTR48-530801 point

LPG as well. This guy really knows where its coming from. Mike.1 point

The seat heaters on Mk3's may be a weak spot but there are cars on which they still work. They work on both my Mk3's, both driver and passenger ones.1 point

a quick google search doesnt yield great results tbh. No idea on what the part numbers could be so I guess you could just go on autotrader and pull a reg down from there. I doubt they are even made anymore as the new cars all have the gunmetal grey coloured badges1 point

........... the UCAs ( upper control arms / bushes and arms ) can be expensive if OEM or very cheap if Chinese crap which last about 3 weeks ! OEM last 150/160/200k + miles .................... depends on the driver I'd imagine and in between costs are well, up to you. OEM from Lexus are about £500 a side but simple job to do I replaced one of mine last year at 173k miles and cost £250 and hope it will last for many many years The cheapo ones are down to about £30 a side. That Mk3 with 85k miles I'd expect the UCAs to see another 85k miles looking at how well the car seems to have been looked after. Malc1 point

These are the "original" F-Sport badges. The first car to host the F-Sport moniker was the pre-facelift 2010 IS, both in 220d and 250 guise and it came with these badges. Im not too familiar with the pre-facelift IS range but it looked exactly the same as the other IS trims at that time apart from the alloys and badge that you see below: Lexus stopped using these badges and since 2012 have only been using these: The long F-Sport badge is on American cars in place of the Lexus badge on the left side of the bootlid.1 point

Cracking car, I'm sure you'll have loads of fun - it can be a smooth cruiser or an absolute brute when you fancy it. Black's a stunning colour. I see you have neighbours. Don't be tempted to get a H&S exhaust. They'll all hate you!1 point

Super clean looking car very nice. Interesting reading about your 335i because we traded the wifes 335i tourer for the isf. Great car to drive and a rare sight but it also had its issues over the three years we owned it. The front spring snapped in half, electric water pump failed , rattly turbo waste gates and rust. Wings were starting to bubble and the inside of the tailgate.1 point

...... it's a usual fact that the Mk3 seat heater fails, usually on the driver's side and it's quite an amazingly expensive job to replace that no-one usually bothers. The steering column issues are usually in the Mk4. the motors are different from the Mk3 The photos look very good and I would be down there like a shot if i was looking for a Mk3 Malc1 point

Some great work! I was not a fan of the 250's to start with but damn, you have a real peach there! Did you get any good snaps from hapfest of your car?1 point

Hi Mike, the car looks fantastic, great colour! You will soon build confidence as you get to know the car. I'm 2 months in and loving it.1 point

Pretty simple job to remove the aux belt, then check it for condition, and also check the idlers for roughness/play. I fitted a new Gates belt to mine, reasonably priced on ebay.1 point

Should be fine. Check the rear brakes as they don't get used much so may stick. The 400h doesn't have air suspension so is fine in that respect. Sunroofs may leak too so check that. Also check the rear hatch to see if it functions properly and the Sat Nav system for any weird behaviour. Basically all electrics. Id probably buy and then get a Lexus warranty for it1 point

I can't say it's any less responsive than the 2.0d XF though. It does have quite evident turbo lag1 point

Sounds a bit belt like. If you can get someone to start up with bonnet open and you carefully listening whilst keeping away and not touching anything... might be worth swopping drive belt and tensioner if not done for a while. Check for any fluid leaks dropping on to the belt. is it a pulley bearing squealing? Water pump? what work has been done and when?1 point

All the CTs share the same engine and CVT transmission. The F Sport has styling differences and a firmer suspension.1 point

Hi Lee and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike1 point

Messi, I didn't ............. I simply did a google search and this is one of the things that came up on page ONE .... for all the world to see, not just me, and you, but every other living soul on this earth I find it very offensive too that this sort of dreadful thing is out there BUT it is, and doubtless every true Muslim should work towards getting this insidious referencing removed. If these words were uttered by this guy, screaming down the phone, presumably in anger and defiance, then doubtless it accentuates the belief that he really is someone that absolutely no-one should be dealing with. Malc1 point

I don't want to get this into a racist thing I have Muslim family i am merely stating the facts it was quite bizarre , I am not sure if it was meant as intimidation it happened as I have said loud screeching noise and Allah ackbar shouted down the phone until I hung up i have not had any further correspondence with this reptile as it would be futile. I have no ax to grind against any religion or colour I am merely stating the facts of my involvement with the ****** Lexuschap i am happy I never bought a car off this man1 point

If your looking to buy a Mark 4 here’s what to look out for: Make sure it has a full or at least a good service history which includes the cambelt change. On driving the ride should be quite smooth comfortable with no noises or creaks from the suspension. Gearbox changes should not be noticeable Upon inserting key the steering should tilt and retract - test and make sure the mechanism works When starting from cold the starter should engage and start the engine immediately - if there is clicking sound then be prepared to have the starter or starter contacts replaced - the is a big job - takes about 7 hours therefore costs a lot and finding a competent mechanic who has the knowledge to properly dismantle and reassemble everything may not be as easy as you think.. Braking should be quite and smooth - if you get a groaning noise when coming to stop that’s a sign of cheap aftermarket brake pads - they will need replacing. Check colour of gearbox oil it should be red with no smell of burning. Check all electrics work Check the temperature display backlight works - these fail and require a lot of dismantling to replace. Check the bonnet struts hold the bonnet Check there is no water or dampness in the spare wheel well - if yes then boot seal needs replacing or sealing Check the car has the correct Toyota red coolant Ask if the cabin filter has ever been changed - these are often over looked. Check toolkit is present Check for exhaust blow - the Y pipe is prone to leaking Make sure there are no warning lights lit in the dash Ideally you want 2 remote and one grey key Check the car has a matching set of tyres and wether they are branded or not - this should give an indication wether the car has been pampered or neglected Check the headlamp levelling mechanism still works - these often fail Before driving off make sure you have the say nav code and locking wheel nut key hope this helps1 point

If you bought it from a motor dealer you do automatically have a warranty under the Consmer Rights Act which means the car has to be as described and fit for purpose and free from defects. Have a read of the link below for more details, as you mention apptoach the dealer and ask them nicely to put things tight. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_legalrights.html1 point
