  1. The depressing thing is that lowlifes like this are allowed to continue trading. Clocking a car is bad enough (tantamount to theft and should be treated accordingly in court, in my view), but selling an unsafe car should result in a custodial sentence. People have gone to jail for health and safety offences, due purely to ignorance, incompetence or negligence. Selling an unsafe car goes one step further than this, knowingly and intentionally putting people at risk to make some money. If he has migtrated from another country, he shoiuld also be deported. This court case is the tip of the iceberg, who knows how many other people have been conned, or are driving around in potential death traps?

  2. Won't have been an easy search, that's for sure. Back in the day, there were a few firms importing engines from Japan, don't know if that's still the case. Lucky we're not in Cuba, they'd just whack a 1.6 Lada engine in.

  3. As a repeated defender of Lexuschap here, I have to put my hands up and admit I was wrong about him.

  4. Hello, I've been away a couple of days so sorry if I'm repeating something you all know. I am looking at the front page of my local paper reading about Mr Umar Ijaz who has pleaded guilty at Dudley magistrates court to "supplying a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition" and two offences relating to professional diligence and misleading descriptions. He has been fined £1,050, ordered to pay £640 compensation and £40 victim surcharge. According to the newspaper(express and star), the case was bought by Dudley trading standards against Ijaz, who was trading on EBay as, Lexuschap. Hope this cheers people up, its taken a long time. 5. Hi guys Just back from a superb 'Road Trip' - the North Coast 500 - 500 miles north of Inverness. Starting in Inverness, we went north to John O'Groats, west to Durness then south via Lochinver, Ullapool, Gairloch and Applecross to Loch Carron. The official route (there's a website) goes back from Loch Carron to Inverness, but we cut that leg out as it's mostly a fairly boring 2 hour drive through Glen Carron. Instead we headed for home via Lochaber, Fort William and Glen Coe. Even so we managed about 600 miles on the part designated as the NC500 with various excursions and diversions. Thing is, of course, there's also the 900 miles round trip even for us in Cheshire to the start and finish, but we were in Deeside in Aberdeenshire anyway. Car performed faultlessly (now due for a service!) and I really appreciated its overtaking ability on some of the winding roads along the route! Most of the route recommendations involve doing it clockwise, but we did it anticlockwise, partly because it leaves the best till last and also you approach the mountains of Assynt from the north - the best aspect! (IMHO) Many superlatives are hurled at scenery, but the views on this route really justify them all! Here are a few tid-bits. All pics taken between Monday 11th April and Thursday 14th April. Don't know if the pics will appear in order, but here are the titles: 1 Mermaid of the North 2 Rolling Boulder scupture at John O'Groats 3 Torrisdale Bay 4 Inverpolly Forest 5 Summer Isles 6 Sgurr a'Ghreadaidh from A896 7 Here we are at Inveralligin, looking south across Loch Torridon towards Ben-damph Forest 8 Shieldaig (the more southerly one off Loch Torridon - there are two Shieldaigs quite close together!) Other 'Road Trips' are available - from personal experience I can particularly recommend the Route des Grandes Alpes between Lake Geneva to the French Riviera (only passable in July and August), and the coastal route from Los Angeles to San Francisco - some of you might like to suggest others!

  6. These guys can strip an entire V8 engine and recondition it in just a shade under 4 mins but Lexus and other garages want 3 to 4+ hrs just to do a timing belt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5saoYQIlh8&ebc=ANyPxKrXkzsw6orlTkSV8g_OlVcSfO3miCtfm0USRGgc91lHaC60jesMI6NDmnV5AAYCxyVrPbwN1vdykvYuNR3WidgK0Kzkmw

  7. Go for a series II RX, not a series I as the gearbox can give problems at high mileage.

  9. Hi Charles and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Don't forget to posts some pics ASAP Regards Mike

  10. It looks like it was well worth the effort - I'd be hard pushed to not think that the car left the factory looking like that. Top job.

  15. why an F? Well its not an audi or bmw was a key point for me. Rare indeed. Rad, not four so it'll be much more fun to drive imo. Getting a bit of slip at the back and balancing it is a wonderful feeling. Not clarkson drifting, just a touch of yaw to get the car out of the corner. its not a coincidence that all supercars now how paddle shift. The isf was one of the leaders at this sort of pay grade. they are not immune to going wrong because nothing is but on the whole they are solid. Get one. You'll love it.

  17. I happen to know that he feels that he is the victim in all this and that the only thing he did wrong was not pay back the victim his money. The trouble with people like this is that they eventually end up believing all the lies and eventually live in a sort of Walter Mitty world where everyone else is in the wrong, he has already forgotten that he pleaded GUILTY to all charges. He is going to have invoices printed now which state that the car he is selling is not fit for the road and that the car is sold as scrap. He doesn't want to know or is ignorant of the law but he can put what he likes on his bills of sale or invoices it doesn't negate his responsibilities under the law. Having to fork out £3000+ will hurt him more than you may think so maybe this will have the result of making him realise that trading is so much better honestly than the dishonest way he has been trading over the years, he also doesn't want to forget that now he is known to Trading Standards so if his name does come up again they wont hesitate going after him. Mike.

  22. ..... and unfortunately that probably means that one should steer clear of absolutely each and every car that has ever been bought from this CRIMINAL ROGUE unless the car is shown to be in really good condition now. But how do you know if it's been clocked, ah, I s'pose the DVLA MOT checks on line show up " real " mileage ( I hope ) Malc

  23. Created an account for this, I don't know if it's being discussed elsewhere. I nearly bought a car from "lexuschap" but he rang too many alarm bells - http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2016/04/16/rogue-car-dealer-hit-with-fine-over-unsafe-mazda-mx5-he-sold-on-ebay/

  25. Yes that's the one. Castrol 5w30 A5 Magnetic. And if you check later models they take very different oil. Just shows you doesn't it. Bet many people here didn't had a clue and might have used wrong oil by just putting in any known brand 05w30. . Don't blame them. Average mechanic doesn't usually know this important info. For few folk here... if you go to tesco or halfords, look on the shelf. You will find a range of Castrol Magnetic 05w30. Notice the marking A5 or C2 or C3 on it. Ever pondered why they sell it under different labels? ... :)

  27. Clarkson earns his living from cars. New cars earn him good money and he will be attracted to those who pay the most. Why should a professional journo pass anything other than negative opinions on a Lexus when Mercedes pay so well? TBH I like to make my own mind up about cars since I do not believe that professional motoring journos are interested in reporting anything other than what earns them most money.

  29. Jeremey Clarkson hated the SC430 but it's the best car I have ever had. It is very comfortable, a great drive (if you don't want to take it round a track) has so many extras. The folding roof is a work of art and if you don't mind 25 to the gallon and **** loads of tax it can't be faulted. I don't know why the stopped making it and it's replacement. Anybody know??

  30. If you buy one before March 06 ( if I remember correctly) the road tax should be around £285 per year but after that it rises to almost £500 per year. If you don't mind the higher road tax I would buy a RX 350 which is excellent. I had a RX 300 SE-L for six years and it was very reliable comfortable car which looked the part.

  33. Wish I had your problem although my goal is to buy an old 911 targa to restore (on my bucket list) Idrive the Lex (wife wont and kids daren't !!) so its all mine - I have the use of the other 2 cars - almost embarrassed to show them against your ...although one is a convertible (shame about the badge as its quite a nippy car) - obviously pictures taken when they were clean. Surprisingly, the KA, although plagued with rust (this one isn't yet) is quite a fast car - 1.6 SportKA - bit basic ... basically a go-cart with a roof !. Bought for my 20 year old lad - first car, just passed his test when we got it last year and it was the cheapest for insurance. 20 year old, no years driving (apart from the lessons) ... insurance = £660 !!!! come down this year to £540, has had a black box for the first year. Insurance at the time we were looking for a 1.1 Corsa 2003 to 2005 was £1300. But get this .... Insurance for an old 2.2 litre jag was £900. Its crazy the way insurance is worked out. I don't drive the Tigra much, If its first in the drive then I will use it depending on where I am going. Don't like Vauxhalls much (previous bad experience) - not only that, my wife does not keep it clean (inside or out !! - picture is of when I cleaned it to see what it turned out like) Looking to px this against an MX5 at some point I owned this lex before IS200 LE - absolutely spotless car, not even any stone chips which they were notorious for - it was killed (written off) in a local flood in 2012 and I was gutted (more gutted at losing the car than the house being flooded!!) Loved that car but moved on to the 250 although I would love a good clean 200 again. It was more of a raw beast than the 250 is now.

  34. The original poster does not say wether he as owned the car from new,it could have been badly treated or driven on a rough road for considerable periods by its previous owner. I have always maintained that the Lexus Ls400 was and still is the best car Lexus made and if it turns out these parts have failed so quickly it confirms my belief.

  35. Only 40,000 miles & it already needs new bushes. I'm sorry but other than the bushes something else is wrong with this car. I suggest you complain direct to Lexus & have them explain why its only lasted for 40mls before needing such major work
