  2. My views on brand image are probably quite stereotypical but.... I spend a lot of time on roads (albeit short journeys but mostly in traffic) and it appears that the stereotypical views of brands are not that stereotypical! Ive seen it with my own eyes and here is what I've seen and think: Audi - The older ones are driven by sensible people. The newer ones seem to be driven by idiots although there are exceptions. The A3 and A5 seem to seduce idiots at that. Also, with RS vehicles, I better pull out of the third lane within 1/100th of a millisecond or he's going to undertake me. BMW - This is the opposite - older ones seem to be driven by idiots and newer ones tend to attract reasonable drivers. Exception is probably the new 3 series. Newer 5 series drivers are pretty good. Id assume all the ones who had older BMW's went to new Audi's! Jaguar - Havent seen any young people drive these whatsoever, even the XE. Saw a lad in an F-type but turned out it was hired for a wedding. The classic old mans brand! Volvo - Unnoticeable and uninteresting bar the new XC90. Mercedes - I dont mind a good Merc and the drivers are OK. Of course, exceptions always apply especially with the C63 being driven by yobs with no regard for the road. Lexus - got to admit, Ive never seen a Lexus driver drive badly which is saying something! Individualism, exclusivity and someone who enjoys a relaxing drive springs to mind

  4. So, I collected this over the weekend. 2 things Blimey, this is fast. Shell club points will rapidly increase This is a serious lump of a car and it feels huge but its surprisingly easy to drive around town. Will remain to be seen how much this costs to run but its certainly some beast to be driving. Did I say its fast?

  5. If you are thinking of changing the Cabin/Pollen filter here is a mini guide on how to do it. Remember to put the a/c system into "recirculate" mode. If you have done this the lid over the filter will be up when you remove the cover at the back of the glovebox. On no account try to force up the cover to get at the filter ... you will damage the selector levers and it is either very time consuming and fiddly to repair, or will cost ££££'s at Lexus. If its not up...turn the ignition 'ON' and select recirculate ... you should see the cover lid lift up to reveal the filter. 10 - 20 minute job. Fiddliest bit is removing the shelf bits in the glovebox compartment. The picture should make it all clear.

  6. To cut a long story short - I accidentally had my master key in a shirt pocket (you know - the key with three buttons on it), anyway, the shirt went into the washing machine. When I discovered what happened I was somewhat perturbed (to put it mildly, very mildly). The upshot to all this - the key still works in all the usual ways. I thought I was really very fortunate - good old Lexy.

  7. Some good advice above, I remember having to have washers put on the heat shields as well. Another known problem are rear shocks failing, they aren't cheap to replace. I bought mine with coilovers on it (he gave me the factory shocks but the rears were shot). I had the shocks reconditioned by Gaz Shocks (who make coilovers etc but are local to me), fitted them on the car and its like new! The coilovers that were on it were very bumpy for an old git like me!

  8. rayaans said " Lexus - got to admit, Ive never seen a Lexus driver drive badly which is saying something! Individualism, exclusivity and someone who enjoys a relaxing drive springs to mind" A week ago i was a passenger in my wifes car and some happie chappie in his Lexus (I couldn't tell if it was a 220d or a 250) was virtually touching her rear bumper whilst she was overtaking another car on a dual carriageway. After completing the overtake my wife moved over and bombhead took off like a bat out of hell, If he was/is a local and has lived in the area for more than a week he should know that he aint going nowhere, not no how he aint. There is absolutely no point in driving like a madman on the Exeter to Exmouth road as, quite quickly you will have to slow down and, anything gained from the sudden spurt is just as quickly lost again. The section of dual carriageway is not very long and soon becomes a single carriageway again with no opportunities to overtake. In this instance he came to a dead stop in the queue at the roundabout and we continued our merry way on the inside lane to turn left at the island. We gave him a little 'toot' as we passed. Driving down this dual carriageway you will occasionally be passed at great speed by a nutter and invariably, you will find yourself immediately behind them again as we approach Exmouth, simply because all of the cars that he had overtaken had, at some point, turned off the main road and so, all of their stressful overtaking had gained them nothing and, there we are, right behind him again having driven as rayaans said "enjoying a relaxing drive"

  9. Hi, havent posted on here for a short while, I have my GS300 SE-L up for sale well well well below your budget and the lower tax bracket! Really is a great example, I bought it from a forum member (came all the way from Ireland to Essex!), it has the ML as well (which sounds great!). Its currently wrapped but happy to remove (black and mint with zero dings or dents underneath, literally not one!). I bought a C63 Mercedes a few months and it hasn't been driven since, just sitting there on a trickle charge and started once a fortnight. Link is here. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162030123455?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Thanks Chris

  11. Off topic i know, but something I always wonder is, when you see another Lexus coming your way, do you wave or acknowledge them? Maybe I should start a separate thread to ask. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

  12. About 5-10l is kept in reserve just in case so you only have about 35-40L that it actually measures in the tank. Its got this built in error to reduce the chance of running out of fuel completely. Therefore it'll drop quicker than a 100l tank at the same MPG. Just use the cruising range instead

  13. There are a few LS around my neck of the woods (near Stroud), I know within 5 miles of me there is a bronze Mk4, silver Mk3, and Blue Mk3. I see a GS300 most days on way to work in Cirencester, and I know there is a green MK2 or 3 LS around about Cirencester. On the other hand a few weeks back did a round trip to Chester and same week a round trip to Salford and saw no LS (plenty of 200s). I would say in the lane at the back of my house there is a RX450, IS200, and GS300H, so when I park up my LS, it looks like Lexus city. I guess you went to the Pepperpot Campsite, not been down those back roads for a while, sandwiched between the M5 and the railway line, cannot imagine it to be that quiet!!

  16. John, From my previous experience I would always found VW diesels to be pretty rubbish both on fuel and oil economy. Once had a new 2 litre Passat as company car for a year, it would get through a litre of oil every 1500 miles, and my Tech Director said that was about average from his experience. I also found Passat like sitting on park bench rather than LS sofa luxury. Good economy seems to only be with Peugeot diesel, just a shame electrics and french cars do not go together. Good luck looking for a proper car (LS of course)

  17. Morning all, returned last night from a round trip to Disneyland Paris and thought I'd share my findings as I've only had the car a couple of weeks (f sport). we drove down to Dover from Burton via duxford to go to the imperial war museum on Thursday. Mix of Eco and normal mode but easily managed 50mpg with a fully loaded car - 2 adults, 2 children and a baby, also a jam-packed boot. I was pleasantly surprised I managed 50mpg, my only rule was to keep to the speed limit, so 70mph max. 50mpg was equally surprising as driving out of roundabouts I allowed the odd bit of sport mode to get her going (Eco mode + fully loaded car was problematic approaching motorway junctions). decided on that basis to fill up in Dover and see if we could make the round trip to Paris and back on one tank, which I'm pleased to say we did with around 90 miles range on the clock. MPG was averaging 45 in France though as the speed limit is 130km/h on the tolls (85 ish). That was also exclusively normal mode, again with the use of sport to get her going now and again. I was really really pleased with that performance on a fully weighted car :) the road network in France really is superb and made be realise what nonsense we have to put up with in the uk! Oh and the only lane-hogging -tailgating behaviour I saw was from GB plate audis. Made me embarrassed to share the same nationality. Everyone was comfy in the car, even my eldest son who was squished in the middle the whole way.

  20. The Merc is going to have to be pretty special to make me want to change, at the moment I'm all set contributing next year and ordering an F-Sport in Azure Blue. And this is the first time in 15 years company car driving I have ever wanted to keep my current car. I will admit infotainment bugs me, but the car is so nice to drive.

  21. So got the centre console etc back in the car. I'm really happy with how it came out. The gauge pod fits the car really well, sadly the holes are too small for my Defi's though! Just needs some fine tuning and it should work. Hope you like it guys. Dropped car off yesterday morning with H&S. Will post updates when I hear from them. Cheers.

  22. So many people damage the filter cover by not knowing the correct procedure, and as you say it will be a real pain to fix, making this a great post. I've saved the diagram and will print off a copy to put in the glove box if/when I ever sell my IS250.

  24. Air con sucks though - I dont really like having it on when I dont need it. Prefer to use the windows. Nothing like fresh air especially when driving through roads with freshly cut fields on each side.

  25. It's a weight issue. The extra weight of the sunroof means that it precludes having a spare wheel. In which case you'd get the same that was in the pre 2014 facelift - a can of gunk to seal a puncture and the wherewithal to reinflate the tyre to get you home. Given pretty much every car has a/c these days why would you want a sun roof?

  26. lexus did think of the supplying a spare wheel but this was only available in the USA later uk models of the ct do come with a space saver either as standard or as an option.

  27. Whilst I was running the Avons, I used to go to a variety of garage service stations and use their air/gauge. I now have my own compressor and a £40 digital gauge which I believe is exceptionally accurate and have checked weekly on my Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric F1 tyres. I upgraded as I thought the Avons were not up to standard after the centre of the tyre wore so quickly. I've dropped the rear pressure down to 35 and hopefully that will do the trick but it's very odd.
