  1. Just a potential FIX for you bashing your head against this particular wall, The problem, a 2008 is220d, 110k miles, with embarrassing quantities of white smoke from exhaust that smells of diesel fuel. My parents car has been smoking like a pig for the last few months, Diagnosis.... Garage condemmed the DPF and replaced it..................Still smokes. Garage says "just keep driving it, the smoke will soon stop"............It didn't Garage says "er, drive it some more"...................Still smokes. Garage yanks the injectors and send them off to be tested, by people who are not idiots..................non idiots send them back with the verdict, injectors are perfect...........................Still smokes. Garage now say they are sure it is the turbo which will need replacing...................At which point I get involved and rescue the car. No sign of misfire, compressions good, no play on the supposedly fragged turbo, no headgasket doom. Not trusting the fifth injector, I unclipped the fuel line and plugged it by clipping another injector on it. Went for a drive, white smoke gone! So confirming fifth injector misbehaviour. Changed the fifth injector, a total git of a job............Smokes, Argh! So it is the ECU telling the fifth injector to keep on squirting. Techstream turns up from ebay, so plug it in. The dpf pressure values are all over the shop, so tee in a magnehelic guage, which disagrees with the values from the software. Wiggle wiring, AHA! Gotcha! Pressure values in the software change in sympathy. So I remade the wiring from dpf sensor to the ECU and then got good values for the dpf sensor pressure. The ECU "learns" whilst you drive, but the corrupt dpf pressure data had totally confused it. Unplug car battery for ten minutes, reconnect, ECU starts to relearn with good data. Relearn the window winders by driving them for a couple of seconds against their stops at each door switch. AND THE SMOKE STOPPED! and mpg has gone up from 25mpg imp to 40+mpg imp. The magnehelic gauge reads 5kPa (20 inches water gauge) when regeneration of the DPF now starts. So to recap, check the DPF pressure sensor to ECU wiring carefully before spending lots of money on the garage partswap goosechase. Good luck on what is a fantastic car. Warning!!!!!!!!!!!! ! I only disconnected the fith injector for long enough for diagnosis, if it is disabled for too long, the DPF will probably clog up! I only disconnected it for 20 miles.

  2. Although this item has no practical use I just love it and is totally related to my own 2007 LS460 as the samples tie in to the 2007 model year my own LS460 was built. Used no doubt by Lexus showrooms or Lexus sales people if they were visiting a customer who was considering buying a LS but couldn't get to a showroom. The top quality sample materials of semi aniline leather, ordinary leather, wood trim and paint finishes must be one of the finest kits any salesman could wish for to indicate to a customer the quality materials Lexus used at the time. The fact that the paint finish of Siena Red is in the kit pins the box of samples to around 2007 or thereabouts. It's the size of a small suitcase and covered in black aniline leather with it's own bag too. Bought it on E Bay for £59 as the sole bidder. I agree that I am a bit anal about this sort of stuff but I know quality when I see it and if I ever sell my LS I would gladly pass the kit on to a new owner. I guess the picture with the samples fitted in the lid would be how a salesman would finalise the choice of a customer by showing them as a set.

  3. I think what you've done is brilliant, totally unique. One of the reasons I love owning an LS is that they're so rare, I maybe see 2 LS430's in a year. You'll never see one exactly like yours, like I say, totally unique, well done, you must be very proud of it!

  4. Tempting, but then I'd look at your pics and think.....bigger sound/ (I'm a big hi-fi fan)....comfort? Try the coil-overs..... Still, better than 'being the richest guy in the graveyard' as I was reminded the other day! Bought a NOS pair of 'Yoko' Porsche wraparound glasses immediately! Now; where's Pistonheads page.....?

  5. Do NOT give it away with the car! That will be VERY rare one day! Grandchildren's inheritance!

  6. This is perfect and exactly what I was hoping I have worked it all out and yes the bik along with what can be claimed per mile vs the diesel is far better anything close to 50 mpg is making money. The Lexus It is then I think !!!! Now grey or blue :-/ I like the red interior as well but at £2000 it seems a pricey option compared to adding a sunroof instead or something

  7. Mine does that too, but if you use the remote to open the boot it's fine. Nobody was trying to get in it, was the afternoon and I could see it on the drive while trying to watch the grand national (won £23 yay) It turns out I do have metal in the armrest, 5 wheel nuts, a set of keys and an egr blanking plate I've not got round to fitting yet. It's been fine today so far.....

  8. So got the centre console etc back in the car. I'm really happy with how it came out. The gauge pod fits the car really well, sadly the holes are too small for my Defi's though! Just needs some fine tuning and it should work. Hope you like it guys. Dropped car off yesterday morning with H&S. Will post updates when I hear from them. Cheers.

  9. Many years ago, I was an RAF Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. We were always taught that, because of the fine machining tolerances involved in aircraft manufacture and assembly, we were NEVER to use excessive force on anything. 'Fit it - don't force it!' was the mantra. One day, I was trying to fit a bearing into a housing, but it just wouldn't go. Eventually, I went to find the Chief Technician who, after inspecting the problem, went off then came back with a large wooden mallet. He positioned the bearing and gave it a mighty whack.......it fitted perfectly. 'But, Chief,' says I, 'we were taught not to use excessive force'. 'That wasn't excessive force', he said, 'that was a therapeutic tap.......and when you've been engineering as long as I have, you'll know the difference'. So, if all else fails, try a 'therapeutic tap' :)

  10. I had to go onto a very muddy field today and experienced the 4 wheel drive for the first time. It was a breeze. I have read that the NX does very well off road, compared to a lot of other off roaders. It won't compare to a Land Rover mind, which is a true off roader, but the NX does cope well.

  11. Agree with ganzoom here, we had looked at mercedes and audi, but they were bland and rattly, we just happened to pass a lexus dealer, not really interested in an is but took one out and were sold, it was after all a posh toyota, so reliability was guaranteed (so why can't they give a five year Warranty?) After a few days of ownership, I would now never buy another diesel or petrol car, the next car will be full electric, that is the future, I think the turning point will be when a reasonably priced car is available with 200+ range, at that point they become viable as company cars, which drive the market. Tesla are the new Apple, and for that reason I will probably not buy one, there is too much "emporers new clothes about it" it seems they can do no wrong, personally I find it bland and badly packaged, with a low rent interior, but I do love what they have done in terms of changing market perceptions of eV.

  12. Hi everyone Just had my wife's Jan 2006 RX400h back from 100k mile service and MOT. I was aware of coolant seepage issue so we decided to change the cambelt, water pump, tensioners, hydraulic pretensioners, radiator, coolant, oil and filter. I ordered the Aisin kit including water pump from Rockautos, which was just under £200 including postage and duty, Koyo radiator just under £100 and Toyota super long life pink coolant 10 L which Toyota Coventry supplied for £72 (10% discount). My trusted indy who also services our LS400 did everything including the MOT for £422 including 3 light bulbs. Overall I feel the engine is quieter and pulling better (pulling might be due to ecu reset). All in all under £800 which I think is good value. Tarun

  14. yeah i agree, that its cheaper and hassle free to get it fitted from same place. I will hunt around for a week and will go with the cheapest, hoping the prices come down like they went up without a reason. thanks for all the help ahmedali

  15. That price is fully fitted price, if u buy tyres online still gonna pay 10 each to get them fitted, unless u know someone who can fit them foc.i done lot research before I bought mine.it worked cheaper and hassle free from f1 autocentre. I paid £70 each fully fitted with discount.on back I got 1 budget brand new tyre and 1 Dunlop which is started to crack on edges, but plenty of tread, soon will need rear tyres. Goodyear r approx 108 each.

  17. I had a work colleague once; who used to 'stick' quite frequently, I also found the old tried and tested remedy, mentioned above, was best applied around this guys backside,-usually wearing a suitably heavy boot, -it never failed to work, a practice, unfortunately, these days, much frowned on-I cannot imagine why though.....

  18. Remove metal components from the centre armrest, that should sort it. If it doesn't, I recommend getting an auto electrician to diagnose and repair.

  19. Have you got any metal objects in the centre arm rest as this increases the sensitivity of the alarm & lots of things can set it off Happened to me on my first trip to Germany 2 lpg adapters in the centre arm rest. Sliding door sensors on a shop 30 meters away kept on setting it off & diesel vans going past.
