  1. It could be that your wheel alignment is out. My previous car (an IS200) used to chew through a set of rear tyres within 5K miles before I realised what the problem was - excessive toe out, or was it in? I can't remember which it was exactly tbh, but it was so far out of spec that the tyres were basically being scrubbed sideways as they were rotating. A 4 wheel alignment cured the problem in the end. But because the tyres were wearing out evenly and the car drove straight with no pulling to the side etc, it never occurred to me that anything might be wrong.

  2. I think you need to go and have a close look at your cars!

  3. I have to say that as an autobox hater, I have to agree the CVT gearbox is perfect for the car, being incredibly smooth, high geared when crusing for economy and refinement, but always being in the "right" gear for acceleration. I occasionally play with the paddles, but normally get bored after about 30 seconds and leave the car to do its own thing. Yes, if you drive like you stole it, you do get a bit of whine, but only for a few seconds until the speed catches up with the gearbox - which is deceptively quick!

  4. The later LS400 mirrors have a small PCB ( electronics board) inside the motor casing, this has 2 Hall sensors which detect both the vertical and horizontal position of the mirror glass, these detectors rely on a small cylindrical magnet on each axis for reference. Over time dirt can enter the plastic tube these magnets move in so preventing their movement the ECU then tries to reset and the result is a random movement of the mirror glass. If you're brave enough you can actually strip the mirror down and clean the guts to cure the problem.

  6. The CVT makes the drive very smooth. It is a bit noisy when you floor it but with a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds the noise won't last long before you back off because you are now at the speed limit. You get used to the short delay before the speed picks up and with some forward planning this is not an issue. I also quite like the whine when you slow down and stop. Why would you want anything else for a relaxed comfortable and smooth ride?

  7. ?? mine are tinted? Usually manufacturers will tint up to the legal maximum, don't do it, you'll look like a chav!

  8. ............before you change over maybe have a think about and remember that the Ls400 was designed at a cost of zillions and with a specific wheel and tyre size in mind for maximum efficiency and comfort. Your choice whatever ! Malc

  9. Hi Carlos and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. Great looking car. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike

  10. Hi Carlos, I like your car, and your country and hope to have a place there by next winter. Might take a while for my Spanish to be as good as your English though!

  12. Hi, I have never used a forum before but on the basis that there's a first time for everything, here goes. Its Wednesday and I'm worried, I have bought an RX 300 SE-L from a dealer without ever seeing or driving one before. The TV advert started the ball rolling. It looked great so I sent off for a brochure. It still looked great in the book so I set about tracking one down. There is no Lexus dealer in my area and I live on an Island so the whole deed was done on the Net and phone. Having tracked down an ex Lexus owned SE-L, I did the deal and on Saturday I'll be handing over a whole wedge of hard earned money to take delivery of something I know very little about. Slightly crazy I know, but kind of exciting too. My wife wanted an X3 and the kids an XC90. But it was the toys that sold me on the idea of the Lexus. Will I regret the decision ? Will my wife say I told you so and make me eat Humble Pie for the next two years? Will the Air Suspention make the kids sick? Well if so, I'll blame you guys because before finally taking the plunge I read your Forum Topics and believed everything you said ! I'll let you know how it goes.

  13. I was in a similar situation. I was on the waiting list for an X3 (the wife's choice) but changed my mind after reading several bad previews of the X3. We took delivery of the RX300 a couple of weeks ago and can say it was definitely the right decision in that I extremely happy with the spec, finish and overall quality of the RX. This was been reinforced yesterday when I had the opportunity to compare both cars directly as they were opposite each other at the Canary Wharfe Car Expo. The X3 isn't a bad looking car but once I sat in it the lack of quality compared to the Lexus was obvious.
